Twenty-five years after his death, a collection of more than one hundred photographs and biographical essays reexamines the life and career of John Lennon, from his Liverpool youth and rise to success with the Beatles, to the breakup of the Fab Four, solo career, personal life, and tragic death at the hands of an assassin. 40,000 first printing.
Life was an American magazine published weekly from 1883 to 1972, as an intermittent "special" until 1978, and as a monthly from 1978 until 2000. During its golden age from 1936 to 1972, Life was a wide-ranging weekly general interest magazine known for the quality of its photography.
This publication features iconic pictures, some rarely published, of John Lennon throughout his life. The collection starts with the smoky Liverpool basement images all the way through the Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park. The passion the various photographers feel for John, his family, and friends is evident, which makes this compilation a work of love. The stories behind the photos reveal a touching friendship and deep respect between Lennon and the artists behind the lens.
Page 65: Four days earlier, John's second book, A Spaniard in the Works, was published. It was quite Lennonesque.
You don't say?
Anyway, it's a fine summary of his life. Like any worthy magazine, it is heavy on photos, and some distinguished artists have kindly opened up their archives, and also shared some anecdotes. Good all around.
Awesome book about an awesome person. Reminces by six different photographers, each from a different stage of John's life, thus also from a different perspective. Wonderful pictures - the majority I've never seen before.
