Nix had a few thorns in his side—and they all happened to be dead. The first thorn came when he moved into his brother’s haunted house, another happened to be his best friend, who thinks it was Nix who murdered him. Pulled between the two, Nix also has to deal with a young autistic son, a sister in law and two nieces, all of whom he has to protect from an entity hell bent on revenge.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com
I thought that this was a great, original story. I wasn't sure that I would be interested in a ghost story and the fact that Nix had an autistic son is what actually drew me to this book. These authors made the feel of the book so real that I forgot that I was actually reading a story about ghosts. The characters, both alive and dead, were fantastic and endearing. There were tragic moments and humorous moments and the story flowed nicely. This is a well written, wonderful fantasy. The ending has me waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book.
I tried my hardest to read this book with the aim of providing a balanced critical review and there is a problem - I can't think of anything negative to say about it. This book is beautifully crafted; the storyline is rich with detail and sub-plots that draw the reader in and the main characters Gregg and Billy are ominous and yet equally hilarious and heart-warming when you get to know them. It is a very talented writer that can create such complex characters and have the reader feeling he of she literally knows them in real life and cares about them. The pacing was perfect for me, the small details of the setting added great depth to the story itself and the tension built in a way that had me hooked. I couldn't put this book down and recommend it to anyone that enjoys a supernatural yet funny read with emotional depth and vivid storytelling.
LOVED the storyline and the characters, both living and dead. There were definitely places the writing needed an editor's hand, but overall a good read, and I look forward to the sequel!
