The Matchmaker #1

Perfect Match

Rate this book
The Matchmaker knows you can’t find the perfect fit if you don’t try on the right size…

Nothing extraordinary ever happens in Fiddlehead Bay, Maine until an enigmatic woman moves into the small seaside town and opens her shop of eclectic odds and ends. There are rumors among the locals the shopkeeper is a modern day witch and matchmaker, and Franci Grassette is intrigued by the concept. Her nonexistent love life could use some matchmaking. Heck, it could use a miracle.

Dylan O’Brien came to Fiddlehead Bay to make a fresh start with his daughter and to forget the deceits of his wife and his troubled past. Not to get involved with a woman. But he soon finds himself repeatedly running into Franci, first as his daughter’s daycare teacher, then as his landlord. And it’s getting harder and harder to ignore his attraction to the sweet, thoughtful and sexy woman.

Franci isn’t sure if the shopkeeper is making her meetings with Dylan happen, or if it’s just coincidence. But with each unexpected encounter, it becomes clear they cannot deny their attraction to each other. Unfortunately there’s no outrunning the past and it catches up to Dylan with a bang, testing their new love, and threatening their PERFECT MATCH…

I'm kind of cutting to the chase on this review, but I plan on doing a more detailed review later (and I need to make a note so I'll actually remember)..

Perfect Match was a fairly cute and easy read. I can't say that it made me jump for joy, but it was was entertaining enough to keep me reading it. It centers around two people who manage to find their perfect match with other, with the possible help of fairy gypsy godmother. I dug that little extra that was thrown in there. It does a little to set it apart from your stereotypical beach read. It progresses quickly and flows semi-well during that progression, so it's a good choice for those days when you just want to read something short but entertaining, without a lot of work.

On a downside, there were some editing issues, but nothing too horrible. I've definitely seen worse.

So. Overall opinion is that it is a fast and easy read, with a good dose of cute. If you are down for something like that, I'd recommend it. But if you want lots of substance, look elsewhere.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Kathy Love. It was my first book by this author, and I'll absolutely be looking for more by her. I thought that Franci Grassette and Dylan O'Brien were both wonderful characters, and I enjoyed reading about their developing relationship. Dylan's daughter, Olivia, added a great deal to the story. She was adorable! The storyline kept me interested, and I thought Perfect Match was a very sweet and tender romance.

Franci Grassette has noticed a new man in Fiddlehead Bay, and is surprised to find his daughter enrolled in her preschool. After a bit of a rocky start, Franci and Dylan begin to get to know one another, and are quickly developing serious feelings for one another. As Dylan's past intrudes, they have to decide what they really mean to one another.

From the minute I started Perfect Match I couldn't put it down. I found the characters to warm and loving. The story drew me in and kept me there page after page. I couldn't help liking Dylan after seeing the way he treats his daughter, Olivia. He really cares for his little girl. I found Franci to be "perfect" for them. A must read!

Charming, warm, quirky romance. I'm glad that Kathy Love is back to writing small-town contemporaries, because she does it like no one else. Looking forward to the next book in the series, Miss Matched.

Was this book proofread at all?

Missing commas, missing closing quotation marks when people finish speaking, missing words, and hard returns in the middle of a sentence are just a few things I came across.

“OK, that’s would to pretty much suck,“

Wtf is that supposed to mean?

“How are did you like that sample of perfume?”

Verb tenses constantly wrong.

“The guy was a totally player.” (Instead of total player).

“He pulled a pair of sock out of the drawer.” (I think you mean socks, as in plural).

Honestly though, I can overlook this for engaging characters, but I found I couldn’t connect with them. I ended up skimming the last half just to see if I was correct about the big secret (I was).

I’ve enjoyed this author before, but this book wasn’t great for me. I liked her book entitled “Wanting Something More”. I recommend that one instead. And it was professionally edited.

A fantastic new read by Kathy Love! Perfect Match is about Franci, who owns/runs a daycare with her best friend and feels plain and invisible to men, especially when she's around her bold and beautiful step sister, Josslyn. Her life gets turned upside when the new hunk in town, Dylan, drops his adorable daughter, Olivia, off at daycare. Franci is immediately taken with both the little girl and her gorgeous father but thinks he completely out of her league. With some help from the new mysterious women who has opened up her boutique, Phaedra's Fantastical Finds, the shopkeeper/match maker/ witch/ gypsy (according to the rumors spreading around town) Franci and Dylan grow closer as they spend more time together. While Franci loves the thought of the three of them being a family, Dylan has secrets in his past that could tear them apart or make them stronger. I loved this book, I always feels a bond of sorts with underdog characters. Franci is so open and loving, which made her perfect for not only Dylan but also for Olivia. I liked the fact that Franci bonded with Olivia first even though she thought Dylan didn't like her, it made the story feel more real. Franci has help from the new shopkeeper, Phae, who we don't know much about other than she's kind of odd and everyone in town thinks she's a witch and/or a gypsy and I think her story will be very interesting as it gets revealed. So while I loved Franci and Dylan's story, I can't wait for the next book , Mismatched, which is Franci's best friend and co-owner of the day care, Kelsey. She's been with her boyfriend who doesn't appreciate her since high school and with some help from the resident match making witch/gypsy, Kelsey will find true love with a man who will love her as fiercely as she loves him.

Kathy Love hits another one out of the park! I've been a huge fan of all her books, and became hooked after reading her first contemporary series 'The Step Sisters.' I'm thrilled that she is back writing in the world of contemporary romance, and this new series will have you hooked into reading her backlist (her wonderful and many very, very funny paramormal series)!

As in her first contemporary series, the setting is smalltown Maine; her characters are down-to-earth people trying to live their lives to the fullest, fighting their own personal demons that have overtime and misunderstanding in some respects, left them a bit scared and weary of new people and new situations. With a cast of close knit friends and community (even the landscape of Maine is described in beautiful picturest detail --I'm booking my ticket now!), you can't help but take to heart all the characters -- both hero/heroine and secondary character -- a emotional connection you often don't experiece in writing, but in Love's crafting, her storytelling will leave you satisfied and emotionally fullfiled that the main characters find both love an happiness.

I can't wait for the second book in this triolgy! Thank you Kathy Love for bringing us another great story of love, loss and redemption.

Dylan O'Brien and his daughter have moved back to town where they can be close to family after Dylan's wife and business partner destroyed his life. He's not sharing that information with anyone and he's definitely not looking for love.
He however finds Olivia's pre-school teacher attractive and he loves the fact Olivia adores Franci and Franci is quite taken with Olivia also. He and Olivia are soon finding themselves living in Franci's guesthouse and settling down enjoying all of their family, friends and neighbors in their town.
Franci had already noticed Dylan working at a construction yard while walking around town with her sister, but getting to know him even better after his daughter Olivia joined her class and them both moving into her guesthouse was taking their relationship somewhere new.
This is the first book that I've read by Kathy Love and I'm looking forward to more.

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review. All conclusion and mine and mine alone.

Kathy Love’s new book, “Perfect Match” is a wonderful read. I had only previously read Kathy’s stories as part of anthologies. For the life of me, I am not sure why I had not read her other books before, but I will definitely be reading her books, especially this series, going forward. Perfect Match is the first book in her “The Matchmaker Series,” and it is fantastic. The reader is introduced to Franci - your sweet, easygoing, girl-next-store kind of woman, the type of person/character I relate to the most. And, then we meet Dylan, a handsome man, caring father, but someone who clearly has a past that, as a reader, I could not wait to explore. Along the way, we also meet some hysterical, quirky, and loyal secondary characters that this reader cannot wait to learn more about in the later books in this series. I cannot wait for book two!

I received this book for free in exchange for a honest review.

Perfect Match by Kathy Love is the first book in The Matchmaker Series. Kathy Love is one of my favorite authors and I am so excited about this new series. Set in Fiddlehead Bay, Dylan O'brien is a single father and a construction worker. Franci Grasette is a daycare teacher. Things heat up for them when a new shopkeeper comes to town and she may be a witch.

Dylan and Franci are both so likable and I did root for their happy ending. This was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the next books in this series.

I'm so happy that Ms. Love wrote this book. I'm a HUGE fan. It has the best of all the things I love about contemp romances. Small- town feel, heart, and humor. I found it easy to read and hard to put down. I loved Franci and Dylan(I'm a sucker for single dads and Dylan is a great dad to daughter Olivia). Don't miss out on what promises to be a GREAT series!
