Modern supernatural/fantasy novel that is the fourth in FTYX’s Exorcism series (Legend of Exorcism, Dinghai Fushing Records, and Ming Wang are the other three). Fei Tian’s protagonists, world building, and imagination with his storytelling has cemented him as one of my favorite authors. The Exorcism series is now probably one of my all time favorite universes in the fantasy (or any) genre.
One line synopsis: Innocent naïve cutie pie attends a college for Exorcists, protected by a mysterious hottie senior, and everyone must work together because the world is endingbb
🐉College for Exorcists 🐉Save the world trope 🐉Adorable MC/Cold aloof (Lan Zhan type) ML 🐉Chaotic rag tag crew/found family 🐉Chinese mythology 🐲DRAGONS 🐉Fascinating spiritual tools/artifacts 🐉Spiritual beasts, ghosts, demons, etc 🐉Slow burn with the least amount of 🌶️ in any FTYX book I’ve read (maybe this is censorship since it’s newer?) 🐉Best interwoven series/universe I’ve read since Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere
My favorite thing might be the crossover of the characters and themes from the other novels but one has devastated me 🥺
I cannot express enough- if you liked Legend of Exorcism and/or Dinghai Fusheng Records don’t sleep on the two modern ones in the series! They might be modern but the fantasy/supernatural elements really take over and the humor is everything. Not a boring moment in the novel.
Chronological order: 1. Dinghai Fusheng Records (historical) 2. Legend of Exorcism/Tianbao Fuyao Lu (historical) 3. Post Training Notice: National First-Class Registered Exorcist/Ming Wang Huan Shi Lu (modern supernatural) 4. Record of All Things (Book of Everything?) Wan Wu Feng Hua Lu ( modern supernatural)
I think I read an article that he plans to write more in this series (please 🐥gege!) ETA: A new Exorcism book set in the Song Dynasty era (so, after Legend of Exorcism) is out today (6/11/25) on jjwxc
