The Dark Forest Theory of the Internet

Rate this book
“The dark forest theory generalizes on a cosmic level the entropic nature of communication. Its trees grow roots everywhere. We patrol the forest, listening for each other’s steps, all of us hunter and prey… In this forest, one better stay silent or prepare for conflict.”

Holy shit. Most unique book about the internet I’ve ever read. Maybe the most valuable part of it is how it contextualizes the limitations of the way other books about the internet are written.

the dark forest theory of the internet is about the risk tied to the very passport we need to enter our everyday cyberspace: communication, screening the self, telling the truth ourselves, revealing or concealing our coordinates.

altı iyi doldurulmamış paranoya ile bezenmiş

summary: "lie to your AI chatbot! - here's why"

the author argues about the internet in AI age, blurring human-made content, forcing readers to retreat in "safe spaces" (like medium/substack subscriptions, newsletters, discord channels, etc).

more disturbing than I thought, but recommending to those who are already retreating

More disturbing than I initially anticipated - argued issues around algorithm chaos by social media outlets might just be an ontological, not technological issue. Life itself and language at the heart of our impending speciocide.
