Not sure where to start. The plot isn't very believable. All the characters are drop dead gorgeous and wear boots with 3-inch heels and none of them act like rational, stable adults. Nina seems to change personalities every chapter and rarely acts like a FBI agent. Alex is violent and bipolar and I have no clue why Nina kept giving her chances, especially after breaking her nose and practically raping her. The dialogue is unnatural and sometimes repetitive. I almost stopped reading multiple times, but wanted to see if it got better. It didn't. It culminates to a rather long, graphic rape and torture scene that was unnecessary and borderline snuff. I had to skip the majority of it. I can't recommend this book.
Its taken me a while to come up for a review of this book not because I didn't like it or that it was a bad book but for completely opposite reasons... This book is very powerful and well written. The story while not totally relatable to everyone (I mean who hear is in the FBI and can say they track down terrorists for a living)the characters and emotions behind them will grip you till the very end. Love, loss, grief, shame, revenge, happiness and heartache... these are a few of the emotions you will travel through in this book and you will feel everyone of them as they were happening to you. Michelle Marra takes you on a journey that you won't soon forget...
warning to those faint of heart... this is a gritty, graphic, and revenge filled book that won't leave you wanting for details but will leave you wanting more and luckily the second book is on its way!!!
Trying to read this book was like trying to watch a train crash without cringing. I'll be honest and admit I couldnt get through it- which would usually generate a one star review- but the fact i kept getting drawn back in (as bad as it is) made me give it 2 stars! Firstly, the characters are awful & lets face it- there is no way Nina would ever pass the psych evaluation to become an FBI agent. And the other characters, well they could be case studies in any mental health/ personality disorder text book in the country. Strangely, I do wonder where on earth the author could possibly end up with this book- & if desperate enough I may just find out- but it could be over the next 10 years or so...
Going through a terrible ordeal, for a long time booze is her only friend. The hatred for her and all the reasons for this hate was devastating. Since that fateful day, her life and the lives of her loved ones are in serious danger. A sick bitch, a pact, romance, a love that can destroy everything, violence, fear, a lot of terrifying actions and an ending that I never saw coming. All in all an excellent book and very intense throughout. I expect a lot of the second part and I highly recommend this first installment.
2 stars. the amount of insane and implausible plot lines in this book are nothing short of impossible. there is also a lot of domestic violence that serves no purpose but to build on the inane plot. I almost gave up on this book, I did get the trilogy for free on Amazon. I'm not quite sure if I will even attempt to read the remaining books!
This may be an unfair review, as I didn’t finish the book. But given its direction, I didn’t want to waste the time.
I am pretty certain I understand the plot of the story (could be wrong, there might have been a twist I didn't see). But the characters we were supposed to like did stupid and unrealistic things.
I should have trusted Bobbi's review.
(EDIT) And I should have read Bobbi's review completely... not just the first paragraph. Would have never touched this book to start.
Ok so I get frustrated when I read something and the people fall in love immediately so I almost put down the book and quit reading it. I'm glad i stuck it out, although about 3/4ths of the way through I wanted to throw it I was so angry. Again, I'm glad I stuck it out because now I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel.
Excellent thriller. Gripping story. Characters you will love and love to hate. Starting Justice Scorned as soon as I post this. Caution parts of this book are violent .
First time reading this author and this book was beyond any good words I could describe. I'm moving on to the second book that is sure to be just as good. If you love a good wlw, FBI ex-soldier story with all kind of twists, this is certainly one of those. Already hooked on this author who is new to me.
This the first time I have said holy Sh*t so many times. I really liked the storyline and characters. Even though there were times I wanted to slap Nina and tell her to get a clue. I deck Alex just because. I moving on to book 2.
Could have been a good story, if it had not gotten so convoluted. Also the graphic violence warning is not a good enough warning for what happens in this book.
