Addiction and pain. For most Christian's they are easier to bury or ignore than deal with. Yet, it's only a matter of time before many of the things we run from must be faced. But how? In Thorns in the Heart, Dr. Steven Stiles cites actual cases to expose the physical, emotional and spiritual vulnerability of Christians when they avoid dealing with pain.
I really wanted to like the book but it's the worst edited book I read/attempted to so far (many typos, varying formating, passages or sentences in read - looked like not corrected editorial notes, etc.). Additionally I struggled so much with the author's style - didn't like it at all. There're some great gems hidden between long passages I either didn't like (the style) or that were too confusing to me. The first 45% are dealing with pain not addiction!
I'm not deleating the book yet and hope for some serious proof reading and would give it another try than.
Great book on the biblical view of pain and the anatomy of addiction. One of the books that the Genesis Process is based off of. This book gave me a LOT of insight and I use the language of this book in my ministry all the time. Written before some of the tools we have now, like identity, belief system work and understanding of the limbic system, but even so, it's wisdom is a must read. This is one of those books I always keep handy as it has taught me so much.
