Shocking, gripping, fun, dramatic, and twist filled!!!!! Daniel Hurst delivered with The Doctor's Child!!! Woohoo! I could not wait to get my hands and eyes on this book. As with the other books in this series, it turned out to be a fast and fulfilling read for me. What a fantastic and fun series this has been! It all began with The Doctor’s Wife and was full steam ahead from there! Reading this series has been a wild twist filled ride!
Fern, Fern, Fern has been such a fun, diabolical, and twisted character. I do so love reading about her antics and getting into her head. She can and does rationalize everything and anything. After becoming a mother to Cecilia, she has mellowed some and is living happily in France. She never expected to see Alice, the woman who dared have an affair with her late husband, ever again. Alice, the Doctor's mistress, and her daughter, Evelyn live in England. Neither Fern nor Alice was anticipating ever seeing each other again. But when their daughters meet........
I found this book to be an entertaining, fun, and dramatic page turner. As I mentioned I have completely enjoyed this series from the beginning. It’s a little over the top and dramatic but boy what a ride!
Would this work as a stand-alone???? Perhaps, but seriously if you have not read the previous books, do yourself a favor and do so. There was so much that happened, so much background, that you will be glad you did.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
RTC, need to think about it a bit. Good follow up story, really liked how the time gap looped. Did feel a little bit of a lull a couple of chapter in, but it followed through very good.
Yes! I have loved every book in this series and this addition is no exception. This book forces me to ask the question, is it wrong to root for a serial killer? If the answer is yes, then I don't want to be right. I love Fern and this latest installment made me love her even more. I know she killed several people but nobody’s perfect. She exemplifies everything a female protagonist should be in a thriller. She is powerful, cunning, compassionate when it counts, and most of all a survivor. The Doctor's Child is full of twists and turns I never saw coming with a conclusion that was both surprising and satisfying. Danie Hurst is definitely an auto-read author. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The powerhouse writer is back with this the 4th and ( I think? ) concluding book of ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ series Am guessing most people will have read the previous 3 before starting this but there is enough background given if you haven’t This is pure Daniel Hurst, fast, furious and ever evolving, no sooner has one shock happened than the next hits you, its non stop from start to finish I did find there is a lot of going back and forwards between timelines but it still flows pretty well It’s a good viable ending to the series and it really has been a great one and as always the authors delivers a fantastic read, much more cant say but if you love this author then 100% you will love this 😊
This is the fourth in the continuing “soap opera” series introduced by The Doctor’s Wife; I have read all four.
There is a lot of history between Fern and Alice who lived in a small English village. Alice had an affair with Fern’s husband, the doctor. Fern arranged for Alice’s husband, Rory, to kill the doctor and set Alice up to be blamed and imprisoned for it. Fern killed Rory, escaped to build a new life, met a new man, Greg. When she found out that Greg was the doctor’s best friend out to catch Fern, she killed him as well. BUT, Alice was carrying the doctor’s child and Fern was impregnated by Greg. Skip ahead almost two decades and Alice’s daughter, Evelyn, wants revenge. Fern is now living happily in France with a new husband and her daughter, Cecilia. When paths cross, revenge and retribution are on the menu. Got it? Whew!
As with the prior three stories, this was an engrossing, fast read that I couldn’t put down. I liked the continued author’s style of alternating chapter POVs from the various main characters, learning their inner thoughts. You may dislike some (or all!) of the characters and think some things a bit over the top, but you will enjoy this psychological thriller. It is an entertaining, escapist read.
While this could work as a stand alone, for those interested, it might be better to go back and read the prior three novels for the history. They are quick, “popcorn thrillers”. If you read this (perhaps) final in the series, what did you think of the ending?
The Doctor’s Child is #4 in The Doctor’s Wife series and each one just gets better and better. The kids are grown up in this one and wow, the twists are just all over the place and I loved every minute of it! This is book #30 - yes, I’m a huge fan of Daniel and I must read them all! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published May 1, 2024.
I have followed this Series from the beginning and it has been one of my favourite psychological thriller series.
I'm happy to read about the characters again. (Daniel made them all feel real) and like the other books there was plenty of twists and turns and it had the proper ending. I loved this series and I suggest you read this series too if you love psychological thrillers..
This could be a stand alone but if you really want to know the whole story I suggest reading the 3 other books in this series.
Thank you netgalley and bookouture for allowing me to read this arc.
Great potential with this storyline and riveting in places but there are a couple of buts….. The opening few chapters with the mum and daughter dynamics were a little confusing to keep up with, given the slightly complex history and the similarities between the two pairs. I had to keep reminding myself who was who which was slightly irritating but perhaps my own fault, a little too much concentration required for a relaxing read. My other but would probably be around the strange decisions by the characters, eg why give yourself a new and fake name and then agree to have lunch with your new friends and your mum? That was always going to go a bit wrong the plausibility of the story overall made me a little twitchy in places, I’m all for some artistic licence and some escapism but this took me a bit far over my limits. I really wanted to enjoy it and did overall but it wasn’t quite brilliant.
I always look forward to new releases by this author. He has such a fun way with words. And, with this book being part of an installment, it was even more delicious! I thought Daniel did a great job of wrapping up this series. All of them were great! He also did a great job reminding his readers what happened in the previous installments. I enjoyed this book very much and can’t wait for his next book!
Mmmmm I’m not sure how I felt about this considering how much I loved the rest of the series……. It was great to get the multiple timelines and points of view and have some gaps filled in but compared to the other books in the series this just felt really mediocre and I wasn’t staying all night to finish it. I’m glad I read it but I won’t be rushing for anymore Daniel Hurst books as I find them so hit and miss normally!
The Doctor's Child is book 4 in The Doctor's Wife series by Daniel Hurst. This is a thrilling series to read and I would recommend that you read the first 3 books to fully enjoy The Doctor's Child. Wow!! This book is fast paced, wickedly surprising, and thrilling to the very end. The Doctor's Child begins with both daughters now 18 years old. Evelyn is the Doctor's daughter with his mistress, Alice. They live back in England where the Doctor lived before his murder. Evelyn knows the truth about what happened to her father and knows that her mother slept with a married man. Evelyn has grown up very angry at her mother, Alice, for not turning in Fern when she had the chance many years ago .Evelyn has a fantasy of finally finding Fern and getting the revenge she's always wanted.
Fern has a new life in a small village near France. She is married to Pierre who happens to be a Doctor! She and Pierre are very happy together and spoil Cecilia, Fern's daughter with her ex-husband's best friend. Fern has changed her name and lied to her daughter and Pierre from the very beginning. They know nothing of Fern's true past life. Fern is using a story that Cecilia's father is a violent man who abused Fern. She tells them that he's dangerous and she had to leave secretly with Cecilia because of that. That's also the reason she gives them that she can never go back to England and neither can Cecilia. The police in England are still looking for Fern and almost everyone there would recognize her from all of the media coverage the case got.
On Evelyn's 18th birthday, she tells Alice that she's going to travel. She wants to backpack and find friends who know nothing of her mother's story. Evelyn goes to hostels and finds that making friends when you're on your own isn't easy. When she's at a hostel in Paris she decides she's going to dress up and go to a club nearby that everyone raves about. She's tired of not doing things because she's on her own. While at the club, Evelyn meets 2 girls her age. She spends the evening drinking, dancing, and eating with them. They all get along great and the other girls are roommates. They invite Evelyn, who is calling herself Tiffany now, to move in with them and they'll split the rent 3 ways. Evelyn can't believe it and thinks they were drunk when they made the offer. The next day she finds out they were serious and she can't wait to move in and have some company for a change. The other 2 girls are Cecilia and her friend from home!
I can tell you that this book keeps you flying as you can't turn the pages fast enough to find out what's going to happen. When Cecilia invites her mother and Pierre for the weekend she tells Evelyn that she should invite her mom, too. Yes, you read that correctly. Trust me when I say you need to get comfortable because you can't put this book down!! I think this is probably the last book in the series, but never say never! Daniel Hurst may have more to write in The Doctor's Wife series. If this is the end, it was a wonderful ride and book 4 is my favorite in the series other than the first book. I rate The Doctor's Child 5 stars with my very highest recommendation. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Doctor's Child in exchange for a fair review. The Doctor's Child is available now and should not be missed! #TheDoctorsChild
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The Doctor's child is book #4 in "The Doctor's Wife" series and once again Daniel Hurst has managed to keep me entertained the whole way through!
Now I was harsher on the first three books in the series, and the 2nd book definitely was my favourite. However, this book was very entertaining! The ending was also VERY interesting for me so I would definitely recommend it.
This is gonna sound really weird, but this is BETTER than the 3rd book for sure. It felt like Hurst found his pacing back again with this one and it genuinely had me on the edge of my seat.
I remember while reading the 3rd book I thought "I hope this isn't the last book in the series because that felt a bit disappointing."
I am so happy this book exists because this felt like the perfect way to wrap up the series.
Just like the previous book it's a classic popcorn thriller and is a very quick and easy read.
This book came out on May 1st, 2024, I would definitely recommend getting it!
Štai ir susidėliojo visi taškai ant i.
So IMO this should have ended with book 2 as 3 and 4 have been a letdown! Things have been neatly tied up, I suppose, and i got the ending I hoped, but these last 2 books have felt like they dragged!
Gripping page turner a binge read. Although the ending of a series it is crafted in such a way that you could read this as a stand alone (although I'd recommend the whoike series) i loved the way the charactets have evilved and matured . As usual Daniel hurst made me feel the characters and thought the story eould go one way. This is ultimately a story of redemption and maturity. He even made me feel sorry for Fern. Im sad that it's over as its a cracking easy 5 star read. I could see the possibility of more spin offs . I gave grown to love the characters . Thank you netgallery and publisher and author. I can't recommend this enough
The Doctors child Is the 4th and the final book in the doctor’s wife series and what a wonderful series it has been. It’s 18 years since the last instalment and both Fern and Alice has stayed away from each other. Both their children are now grown up and Cecilia now wants to fly the nest. They never had the loving relationship that other Mother and daughters have, and she feels stifled due to what her mother did. She wants a life of her own. But when both daughters of Fern and Alce accidentally meet in Paris and they both decide to live together. Both girls Cecilia and Evelyn decide that they want their mothers to meet. This event changes all their lives forever. This is another gripping page turner from Mr Hurst. He does not disappoint. This has lots of twists and turns and a very satisfying conclusion to this fab series. 5 stars
Gaila Tomlino, gaila Pjero, net Fernes gaila. Kartais gyvenimas parodo kokie vaikai buna nedekingi savanaudziai ir kad nevisada verta visko del ju aukoti, nes 18 metu protas niekada iki galo neivertins visu pasekmiu. Manau jei Fernei tenka atsakyti tai ir Evelina turetu sesti I kalejima del Pjero mirties. Apalamai Evelinos ir Sesilijos bukumas erzino. Niekada neistumciau savo mamos I kalejima, kad savo senatve ji praleistu ten. Nezinau, kazkaip slogiu jausmu sukele si dalis... 💔
Ne.
This is the third book in the doctors wife series!
I loved the first two books in the series, however, this book just didn’t live up to my expectations. It was fast paced, but, I felt bored in parts of the book and I didn’t enjoy it as much.
This is by far one of the most entertaining, jaw dropping series I have ever had the pleasure to read. Both Fern and Alice have done all they can to stay away from each other and protect their children from the fall out of the Doctor’s murder but they are now of age and branching out into the world and what a small world it is. Brilliant! I thank Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is my least liked read of the year to date. The writing is very awkward and stilted. (Did you see the episode of Friends where Joey wrote a letter and used a thesaurus to come up with new words?) The characters are very unlikable and lack any depth. The plot was beyond ridiculous and slowwwww. Think it’s safe to say this author isn’t for me.
