Neva Raines is the only person who believes the death of her brother Daniel isn’t what it appears. Gay, sexually abused, pumped full of drugs, and dumped in a London underpass, the circumstances surrounding his murder—and their mother’s record as an addict—lead people to all the wrong assumptions. But Neva knows Daniel, who watched their mother fight her own demons for years, would never have walked that same path. Determined to follow leads the police have no interest in pursuing, Neva goes on the hunt for Daniel’s killers. Instead, she finds Konstantyn. He’s dangerous, seductive, and seems to know something about Daniel’s murder. Getting information out of him proves impossible—as does keeping a safe distance. As her world spirals ever deeper into sex clubs, corruption, and rumours of occult influences, nothing Neva has is safe: not her mind, her heart, or her life. If she can’t find a way out of the mess that claimed Daniel’s life, she’s in danger of losing all three.
Explicit scenes of sex and violence make this book suited to an 18+ readership. Infernal is a stand-alone novel of 63K words.
I am Paula Black, one half of the writing duo Jess Raven and Paula Black, authors of The Becoming Novels, a paranormal romance series set in Dublin Ireland. Books one, Becoming Red, two, Becoming Bad, and three, Becoming Blood, are available now on Amazon in kindle and Paperback formats and on Smashwords is other ebook formats.
Could not put this down once I started... great read! These ladies never disappoint me... such a fan of their writing talent. This story is really dark and edgy. But, in a world where you mix the occult with an underground sex ring organized by a seriously disturbed sadist... that is to be expected. So, if you are sensitive to explicit sex and violence this is not the book for you! Very intriguing characters... Konstantyn is a tattooed, Ukranian dancer. He has the look of a dangerous man but at the same time he is mysterious and attractive. Neva is a dancer who is determined to find the truth behind her brothers death. They meet when she decides to try out for the dance team that her brother was a part of before he died. Their attraction for each other is strong and Neva decides to take a risk and trust Konstantyn to help her. However, as the truth of what actually happened is slowly revealed, it's more shocking and disturbing than Neva ever realized. She finds herself delving deeper into a dark world that she may not be able to survive. A world where trusting the wrong people can be a deadly mistake. The fun of a suspense novel is the slow revelation of the plot. So, I can't say much more without spoiling the suspense. But, I will say I found this to be very engaging from beginning to end... couldn't stop turning the pages... and I liked the originality of the story and characters. The ending threw out a couple of surprises which makes me wonder if there are future books in store?? If so, I'm totally on board! And yes, this is a stand alone... in case you were wondering.
Another great story and looking forward to more!
Many thanks to the authors for the advanced copy... :)
I loved this book and the authors! They never disappoint. From the beginning this book took on a dark and gritty thrill ride to seedy sex clubs and into an underground sex ring with a sadistic bastard in charge. I would caution anyone who is sensitive; this book is explicit with sex scenes and violence. Konstantin is a tattooed dangerous man. He is more than what he appears to be. Neva is a dancer following the bread crumbs of her brother’s life to see if she can figure out who killed him. While trying out for the same dance team as her brother, she meets Konstantin. The attraction is apparent from the beginning, even though both of them are fighting for different reasons. I really do like the evolution of their relationship. It did happen quickly, life threatening situations seem to help put things into perspective of what’s important. The truth about Daniel’s situation is slowly revealed, along with Konstantin’s. I’m not sure if it was more heart breaking with Neva finally finding out the entire situation with Daniel or Konstantin coming to grips about his sister. I really look forward to see what happens with Konstantin and Neva in the future. I’m not sure if Dante will appear again, however I wouldn’t be too surprise since he has some unfinished business with Neva and Konstantin.
This book was excellent. I picked it up solely because it was a Raven/Black book ... and I wasn't disappointed. I really hope this is the beginning of a series, but I do sense it was a stand alone. Neva's development and growth through the story was well done. Konstantyn had you guessing throughout the story. So many little threads had you questioning everything. Some of the scenes, especially the climax were category-5 tension filled. Infernal was a 24-hour read, and couldn't be put down. I like the touch of paranormal (or not?), which you'd have to have with a secret society/religious cult story line. I went the the movie "Believers"(1987) when I was young(er), and the whole voodoo sacrifice thing was disturbing, in an entertaining way. Infernal is in the same category. Highly recommend this book, or anything else Paula and Jess write.
This was one heck of a roller coaster ride! It's dark, gritty and very sexy! We have a heroine looking into to her brother Daniel's murder...everyone else believes it was a suicide but she knows better. Along the way she meets some interesting characters and even manages to catch our hero's eye. Now don't get the wrong idea at first he is far from a hero, but he gets smitten with Neva and ends up changing sides because he is also looking for his sister. His sister turns out to be a real doozy!!! All in all these two ladies definitely know how to write a great story that will keep you on your toes. I sincerely look forward to reading anything that they write and have already pre-ordered the next book coming out from the A Celtic in the Blood series. By the way if you haven't read the first series The Becoming...you really need to check it out it gives new meaning to gritty. In my opinion, they are getting really good making you feel everything the characters are going through and the emotions make it worth every gut wrenching minute. Kudos ladies you've doing amazing so keep the good work!
Fantastic work from this duo as per usual. Found it hard to put this down, a great story with lots of twists. Hoping there might be a follow on...we shall wait and see!
Very dark material, including satanic cults, rape and torture by the bad guys, not for the faint of heart. A cross between a spy movie and some bbc series murder mystery.
