I came to Galveston to start over. I wasn’t looking for trouble or for him.
Fresh off a divorce from my cheating ex, I wanted peace and quiet. But when my neighbor turns up dead, I know something’s wrong. I saw the fake cop watching her house. I remember every detail, and I sketch the man who knocked on my door pretending to be law enforcement.
That sketch brings Lone Star Ranger, Deacon Winslow to me. Brooding. Controlled. Intense. He says the man I drew is an assassin known as the Reaper, and I’m now his next target.
Deacon insists on staying close to protect me. Too close. I don’t trust easily, especially not men, but the danger is closing in, and Deacon isn’t just strong and lethal… he’s something more.
Something not entirely human.
Living together was never part of the plan. Falling for him was definitely not on my list. But the truth is coming for both of us, and nothing will ever be the same.

This was a good story, full of action and suspense, and really held my attention. I liked the characters and thought Deacon and Sutton were a good match. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed in it because there were too many annoying distractions that ruined it for me. The timeline felt a little off at times. For example, it’s morning but the security feed shows “moonlit foliage”. It was also repetitive in spots. Some sentences and paragraphs were repeated word for word. Definitely could have used better editing. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Sutton Blake is newly divorced forensic accountant who moved to Galveston, Texas to start over. Unfortunately, she witnesses a crime, and Deacon Winslow from Team W is sent to help and apprehend the killer. Sutton and Deacon have an instant attraction to each other, and Deacon discovers that Sutton is his fated mate and will do anything to protect her, so they go on the run.
I enjoyed the book. The author has done an excellent job with world building and sometimes pulls in characters from some of the other books in the Lone Star Wolf Rangers universe as supporting characters. It is always nice to visit other characters in the series. The characters are full of depth and deep emotions. The smexy scenes are steamy. The plot has plenty of twists to keep readers guessing what will happen next.
Ranger’s Pursuit is part of the Lone Star Rangers series about a group of ex-military wolf shifters who were recruited by the Texas Governor to be part of Team W of the Texas Rangers. The team includes Rush, Dalton, Deacon, Gideon and Gage. This book might be a good choice for fans of spicy mystery, ex-military, wolf shifter romance stories.

Sutton and Deacon’s story is part of the Lone Star Wolf series/Texas Rangers/Team W by Delta James. It’s a paranormal romance with interconnected characters that each have a pair of central lovers that have a situation that needs to be fixed and the female to be saved ( in most cases) and turned into a shifter. The characters are well written and the story had me reading straight through in one sitting , with very little “down time”. I can’t wait for the next book in the series ! She saw her best friend's murderer unaware that she was looking at a serial killer. Reporting what she saw and turning in a sketch, she leaves herself open to become his next victim. When a Texas Ranger shows up to protect her things start to progress quickly. He has a secret and she's just to stubborn to let things lie. Can they outwit him and bring justice to her friend and will he be able to save her? A thriller you'll want to read through to the end. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Sutton is a take names and kick ass lady for sure. Deacon comes in and gives her no room for anything but acceptance. He moves in and surprisingly she doesn’t fight him much over his absolute take over, or at least his attempt at total take over.
Sutton isn’t afraid to dig into Sookie’s issue and she certainly isn’t afraid to take on Deacon either. I wish there had been a way to keep Sookie around just to see what kind of trouble she could get into but she was there long enough to make a deep impression and gives Sutton a reason to fight. Deacon and Sutton just seemed to fit right from the start.

RANGER’S PURSUIT is the third instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult LONE STAR WOLF RANGERS erotic, paranormal, romantic suspense series focusing on a group of former military personnel, wolf shifter who now form Texas Rangers-Team W (Rush, Gideon, Dalton, Deacon, Gage). This is forensic accountant Sutton Blake, and Texas Ranger / wolf shifter Deacon Winslow. RANGER’S PURSUIT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Sutton and Deacon) using present day and memories from the past, RANGER’S PURSUIT follows in the wake of the murder of Sutton’s bestfriend and neighbor Sookie, a young podcaster and blogger who was getting too close to the truth. Sutton’s ability to remember details finds our heroine sketching an image of the supposed killer, a man posing as a member of law enforcement but a man who will be revealed as a hired killer. Deacon Winslow lost his sister to an assassin’s bullet, and Sutton’s sketch brings Deacon to our heroine’s front door. Deacon will quickly discover that Sutton is his mate, and determined to claim our heroine, Deacon and Sutton will find themselves on the run when the assassin takes aim at our story line heroine.
The world building follows Deacon and Sutton, along with fellow Ranger’s Gideon and his mate Maggie, Rush and his mate Cassidy, as they make plans to take down the man they know as the Reaper.
The relationship between Sutton and Deacon is one of immediate attraction. Deacon knows immediately that Sutton is their mate but Sutton struggles with Deacon’s need to protect a woman he barely knows.Sutton suspects there is more to Deacon than he is willing to admit but with an assassin within striking distance, forces Deacon to take charge in an effort to save the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are provocative and impassioned without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
The energetic and determined secondary and supporting characters include the return of Gideon, Rush and their mates, as well as the introduction of Sutton’s father, police officer Frank Winslow. The requisite evil has many faces.
RANGER’S PURSUIT is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, murder and mayhem, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriuging and dramatic; the romance is limited but spicy ; the characters are desperate and dynamic.
The story is an addition to the Lone Star Wolf Rangers series. It will revolve around five men, all wolf-shifters, all former military. The men, Zane ‘Rush’ Rushton, Dalton Calhoun, Navy SEAL, Gideon Bonham, Marine Raider, Deacon Winslow, Marine Force Recon, and Gage Remington, SOAR Night Stalker, all recruited by the Governor of Texas and made Texas Rangers.
“Five men with no family. Five men who bled for this country and came back to nothing but ghosts.”
“We need something different. Something stronger. Something that doesn’t play by the rules. You’ll be Rangers. Officially, you’re Company W—an experimental unit focused on borderland crimes. Unofficially? You’re ghosts. You answer only to me.” Texas Governor
Sutton Blake divorces her cheating husband and walks away with only what matters to her. She moves to Galveston, Texas, to start over. As a forensic accountant, she knows how to follow the money. When she buys her townhouse, another single woman, Sookie, has also just recently moved there, and they bond as friends, both enjoying an eclectic bohemian furnishing for their homes. Sutton’s world will shatter when she learns that Sookie is dead, killed in her home, with what the police are saying, a robbery gone wrong. Now Sutton is determined to help find the killer and get justice for her friend—except now she has caught the attention of the killer, and it will be a Texas Ranger who comes to protect her, even if it is from herself.
“Because when a man like Deacon Winslow decides you’re his to protect, there’s no walking away. And deep down, God help me—I don’t want to.”
“The moment I met you, something inside of me locked onto you like you were the other half of a map I didn’t know I was following.” –Deacon
The story is a tale with the good, the bad, and the evil. Sookie was working on a story—and she uncovered things that got her killed. Sutton has seen the killer, talked to him, drawn his picture, and now she has a target on her. Deacon gets to her in time, but that doesn’t mean she is safe; it means that together they must stay ahead of the Reaper if they are going to survive. Life and death danger, secrets, mystery, and the truth all have their roles. Will learning the truth about Deacon and his fellow Rangers send her running, or embrace them and her future?
“I’m his. He’s mine. We are one.”
The story does not necessarily get closure, and it will segue into the next story, Ranger’s Honor, featuring Kari and Dalton.
loved it. excellent book well written richly detailed amazing world building. deacon is a wolf shifter with texas rangers who stands alone other than his team. he battles demons from his past and can't really find peace nor really anywhere the feels like home. sutton is a human woman the daughter of a cop who is rebuilding her life after a nasty divorce relocating and making friends with the lady across the street. she's very detailed oriented esp due to job as a forensic accountant finding patterns and details others miss. so when her friend is murdered and a strange man comes to her door she remembers every detail. feeling something off she sketches his face and turns it into police making her a target of a serious killer. team W meaning deacon is sent to protect her and find out what she knows because this killer is personal to him and he wants to take him down. sutton though isn't what he expected. she's strong as steel, determined, forged in fire and will stop at nothing to find out what really happened to her friend. deacon has to fight sutton on everything to protect her making him feel out of control esp when he starts to realize she might be his fated mate. the constant clash of wills puts them on edge and causes storms to rumble esp emotionally for two ppl who value control so much and refuse to relinquish any. danger is coming for her and deacon will die to protect what he has come to value. the peace his soul finally found, the sense of home she brings him but he still needs justice and vengence against the killer. surprise ending which was amazing. I received an arc copy from book sirens and this is my honest voluntary review.
Deacon, Lone wolf and Texas Ranger is sent to protect Sutton as she finds herself in the middle of the murder of her neighbour and best friend, Sookie! Insta Sparks fly between the two, and he soon realizes she is his fated mate! Sutton, does not want and feels she does not need protection, but when she finds out she has a target on her back, and The Reaper never fails in his missions when sent to eliminate a threat, she soon realizes Deacon maybe just what she needs! Deacon with secrets of his own, is determined to find and eliminate The Reaper, as his own history of chasing this ghost, is about to end. The heat is off the pages hot and thigh clenching as both Sutton and Deacon fall into each others arms. He knows what home fells like and Sutton is his home. He just has to convince her of that tidbit! A headstrong sassy MFC with an extra strong MMC have both Sutton and Deacon butting heads many times as she tries to unravel the reason for her friend, Sookie's murder. Deacon forces his hand and takes Sutton away from the murder scene, but not without a lot of push back from Sutton. She feels there is something different with Deacon, but cannot pinpoint what it is. Deacon is unsure how to reveal his secret to Sutton, without making her run. Have a read as this Texas Ranger fights to keep his woman safe while she insists on putting herself in danger. Do Deacon and Sutton eliminate the threat? Is this the end of The Reaper? This books does end on a soft cliff hanger as the story continues in Rangers Honour, Kari and Dalton's story.
Sutton Blake has had enough. She divorces her cheating husband and takes only what truly matters to her. Relocating to Galveston, Texas, she is ready to start fresh. As a forensic accountant, she expertly follows the money, and her new townhouse becomes a sanctuary. There, she bonds with another strong single woman, Sookie, who also recently moved in, and they share a passion for eclectic, bohemian decor.
But Sutton’s life is abruptly shattered when she discovers that Sookie has been brutally murdered in her home, a crime labeled by authorities as a robbery gone wrong. Fueled by determination, Sutton sets out to uncover the truth and find her friend’s killer, but in doing so, she becomes a target herself. Enter Deacon, a Texas Ranger who steps in to protect her, even from her own reckless instincts.
This story is a fierce exploration of good, evil, and the gray areas that lie between them. Sookie had been delving into a story that revealed dangerous secrets—secrets that ultimately led to her demise. Sutton has faced the killer, spoken with him, and drawn his likeness, putting her own life at risk. Deacon arrives just in time, but their safety is far from assured. Together, they must outsmart the Reaper if they are to survive.
Amidst life-and-death stakes, hidden truths, and tantalizing mysteries, Sutton must confront what lies ahead. Will she embrace the reality of Deacon and his fellow Rangers—or will she run from them, and from a promising future? The choice is hers, and she’s ready to take a stand.
I thought the story starting with Sookie's demise was intriguing. Sutton did some deep diving and came up with information regarding Sookie that didn't feel like it was fully explained.
I did not expect the level of action. It waa a nice touch. I loved the way Kari, Maggie, and Cassidy were ready and willing to jump.into the battle. I also appreciate this author including strong, talented intelligent women in her books.
That being said, Sutton was a strong, talented, and intelligent woman with a penchant for doing incredibly reckless things. I don't have a problem with an intelligent woman staying in her lane. Sutton had a skill set that Rush felt was definitely needed. Using her skillset to provide good intel worked for me. Yet she went all mercenary on the looming threat because her dad was a cop and taught her how to defend herself?
This woman barely kept herself from being killed earlier in the book, so her sudden talent in that particular area was a reach for me. Considering what happened, I would have enjoyed Sutton and Deacon explaining things to her dad along with hearing his reaction.
This was a decent read, but not my favorite of the series. I just wasn't feeling any chemistry or connection between Deacon and Sutton. All the energy felt like it was coming from him to her. Her energy for Deacon didn't feel genuine to me. Rating: 3.5 Stars.
Texas Ranger Deacon Winslow is searching for a man on the run, but the man he really wants to take down is the Reaper, the man who killed his sister. He won’t rest until the Reaper is in a grave. Sutton Blake, forensic accountant, is extremely good at her job. When she surprises her husband Keith on their wedding anniversary, she is the one who is surprised when Keith is celebrating with another woman. Believing that he has successfully hidden his assets, he should have remembered just how good Sutton is at her job as she provides the court with his hidden accounts. When her close friend and neighbor is murdered, she wants justice and delves into what her friend was investigating. This will bring Texas Ranger Deacon Winslow to her door. He knows about her friend and tries to persuade her to leave the investigation to him and his Team W. Of course, she has no intention of doing that and the threats begin. He is deeply attracted to her, and insists on keeping her safe, but she is used to fighting her own battles. He knows that she is his mate, but will she accept the changes that this will mean in her life? The battle rages as they are attacked at their ranch. With the help of his team and their mates, will they end the threat and finally eliminate the Reaper? Non-stop action and danger until the very end! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
She's determined no man will tell her what to do again... EVER. He's there to keep her safe, alive... IF she'll only listen to him. Sutton and Deacon are after the same target, but only one of them is trained for the shadows that are coming. Having seen more than she should have, Sutton is now in more danger than she realizes and her stubborn nature refuses to submit to Deacon's wisdom and warnings. The danger they face is real, and it's coming straight for her. The entire Team W, mates in tow, are on board for this epic showdown between good and evil. It will take everything they've got, including home-fiekd advantage, to come out intact. Even then, they may not energe unscathed. Delta has given Deacon a smart, feisty, spitfire of a mate. It may take a few beats, but they will eventually get there (you hope). As the story unfolds the danger increases and tension mounts. Grab your copy, settle in and enjoy the vicarious adrenaline rush as Deacon and Sutton confront a common threat, The Reaper.
I received a gift copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. As a standalone it's not necessary to have read the previous books, though I highly recommend it as those characters do make a cameo in this story. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
A captivating read that held my attention from start to finish, I loved the characters and plot This was a simply wonderful read I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the characters it was wonderfully written and the storyline was engaging and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book which I had been waiting for after reading the previous two titles. Sutton is a very strong character that will not stand any nonsense and so Deacon then comes in and he gives Sutton no choice but to accept that she trying to muscle in on her and his trying to force his choices on her but she is stubborn and knows her own mind. Sutton also was not afraid to look into the issues that Sookie seems to have and also is not afraid to also help Deacon as well. Sookie was an interesting character and I know that readers will enjoy her interaction within the book. Then there is Deacon and Sutton who for no good reason what so ever seem to find the slightest reason to fight every time they meet and this also makes very interesting reading. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
Very dramatic story. Sutton's friend and neighbor is murdered, supposedly during a break-in. Sutton doesn't believe that for a second. She remembers a stranger in the neighborhood asking questions about Sookie, and draws a detailed portrait of him for the police. This brings her to the attention of Team W and Deacon is sent to keep an eye on her. Seems the man she drew is the man that murdered Deacon's sister years ago. He has been trying to find him ever since.
It won't surprise you that these two are mates. It also probably won't be unexpected to find that Sutton is stubborn and goes off alone to do stupid things. Deacon is, of course, an alpha male who gives orders and is shocked when Sutton doesn't follow them. The other men and women associated with Team W are included in the story. There is a battle (surprise!) and the bad guy ends up getting away. Cue book 4.
Enjoyed the read. Time seems to be a fickle thing in this one. One minute it is morning and then it is suddenly night. Lots of dramatic moments and seemingly deep thinking and feeling occur. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
" A Fantastic Shifter Romance series " Who doesn't love a sexy wolf shifter Texas Ranger? The stories are exciting, and scorching hot. Once you read a Delta James book you will be hooked! Sutton is a spunky forensic Accountant. She sees what others miss she can locate hidden assets people try to hide. Everything seems to be going ok. Till she gets word that her friend Sookie that lives next door is killed! Sookie was a crime blogger and journalist. Sutton investigates Sookie death. This leads her to meet a sexy wolf shifter Texas Ranger. Deacon is a sexy Special unit Texas Ranger. His unit is made up of sexy wolf shifters. The governor is over his unit. So when Sutton's investigation puts her in the sights of an Assassin's sights. Deacon is sent to protect her plus the assassin after Sutton. Called the Reaper killed Deacon's sister years before! When he meets Sutton he knows she is his fated mate. Now he has even more reason to put a stop to the Reaper. Can Deacon convince her to be his? While protecting her, and getting revenge on the Reaper? You will love this super exciting, thrilling, and scorching hot story and series. This is a five star plus series.
This is Sutton and Deacon's story. There was good and bad. The good first. The entire group got together and started to interact. Sutton knows how to handle herself and is sassy, intelligent and strong. Deacon while a wolf, didn't come in as over the top controlling. He liked her sass. Even when she did something stupid, he didn't go all cave man. The action and arc draw you in from the beginning.
The not so good. The interaction amongst the group was extremely quick. They knew they were going to be attacked and Sutton "steps out for air". For as elite of a unit as they are, there were some really stupid mistakes - not sensing the enemy, not realizing they were shifters, suddenly all the girls are trained to fight, etc. The fact that the final fight had been built to a fever pitch and when you thought it had started it really hadn't, then it dragged on & you just wanted it to end and then poof it did. That part lacked consistency and flow. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love this series. Each book is a standalone for the couple, but the backstory continues from the first book, with Rush and Cassidy's story- Ranger's Justice. POV of both Deacon and Sutton.
I liked Sutton, determined, defiant and smart. Although not listening to Deacon did get his attention a few times and he needed to adjust his plan of action.
Deacon is of course the ultimate alpha. Domineering and expecting Sutton to do as he says when he says it. See above how well that went. I also liked that Sutton knew what she wanted in Deacon and went after it.
Action from the first page to the perfect HEA for them. Steam to the eventual romance. I liked that even though Deacon knew Sutton was his fated mate , he didn't pressure her into making the bond. It was her choice. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh. My. Lord…what an incredible read! This one deserves way more than 5 stars. Seriously, Delta James has put together all your favorite elements and delivered an absolutely kick a$$ read featuring all those delicious Rangers with that little added something extra. I read this bad boy in one sitting and then read it again just now for my review. It’s that freaking good!
The storyline is simply superb; the characters are not only hot as hell but brilliantly presented; the plot twists and turns really keep you going; and the HEA can be summed up in one word—Magnificent!
You need to grab this book right now to keep your series current—and get ready for the next flash of brilliance. Don’t miss out on this fantastic read! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and absolutely loved it!) ❤️❤️
When Sutton begins to uncover evidence to who may have killed her friend and neighbor, she puts herself in the centre of the bullseye of the Reaper. Enter Ranger Deacon. He has been hunting the Reaper for a long time looking for vengeance. What he thought would be a simple protection assignment while trying to find the Reaper quickly became something more. When you are fated mates, what was, to Deacon, a simple job that was a means to the an end, quickly becomes much, much more. Suddenly, he and his team are under attack and know that they need to do everything possible to keep Sutton alive and hopefully catch the Reaper. This is a very fast paced story, easy to read and can be read without reading the previous books in the series, but the reader will get more enjoyment reading those first. It is a very enjoyable addition to this series.
Deacon is wolf shifter/former special ops soldier and now a Texas Ranger with company W of the Texas Rangers, led by Rush… he is on the trail of an assassin employed by the cartels that killed his sister and gets a lead taking him to Galveston. His lead is a forensic accountant, and daughter of famous Ranger, Sutton. Her friend who lived in same condo complex was killed and the fake cop who questioned her about "break-in" alerted her to something wrong… and was ignored by the police department… but not Team W. To protect Sutton, who says she can take care of herself, Deacon feels that something is up about her friend's death and literally moves into Sutton's apartment… feeling drawn to her… his fated mate… but can he find his sister's killer who is now after Sutton and the team… can they stop him??? I loved reading this book it was deliciously hot, the story was written well and the characters were sensational. This story was about Sutton and Deacon Winslow. In the township where Sutton, lives the shop owners are selling or loosing their shops, it was Sutton's best friend that organised something to keep her safe her coffee shop is doing really well. Deacon walks into the coffee shop and applies for a job, so he can find out what is going on. While he was investigating he didn't think he could take care of this problem himself because as a Lone Star Ranger, he knows he needs the team while he watches her. They finally got close the heat between them was deliciously hot considering they had crushes on each other.
Deacon is a ranger but also is hiding a secret, he's been chasing the murderer of his sister for a while. Sutton moved away from her ex and was great friends with the girl, Sookie, across the way, then she's killed, she was an investigative journalist and seems to have found something she shouldn't. As she's a great artist she draws the man she saw, she's also the daughter of a policeman, who brought her up alone, so she's very independent, feisty and strong. The picture starts alarm bells ringing at Team W, the Reaper is back! Now Sutton is a target and Deacon is protecting her, she's his mate but doesn't know it yet. A great blend of two alphas both stubborn!

Sutton's neighbour, Sookie, is killed not long after a supposed police detective spoke to Sutton. Turn's out Sutton has a few talents, namely, portrait drawing & a good memory which unfortunately has put a target on her back.
The Wolf Rangers have been monitoring the assassin's movements for a while & for Deacon, this is personal. Fortunately he gets to Sutton in time to stop her from becoming another of The Reaper's victims.
Sutton's brain is wired to dig deep and analysis a situation, finances and more; Deacon has a score to settle and secrets to keep.
Delta James has given us another tale of intrigue, danger, evil, mystery and shifters. It's an easy standalone read.

The language is lush and evocative. There is an Elizabeth Lowell flavor to how they read each others emotions.
Bit so many loose ends: / how was Deacon at the death scene when the crew was 10 minutes behind? / how did the FMC not know the police were next door? / why is the friend who texted in Sutton’s first chapter never mentioned again? /why is there no funeral for Sookie nor dealing with her family? /why do the fight scenes slow down, fade out, and skip critical info like where the shooters go? (Twice!!!) / Sutton took 1 shower the entire book. She was always just putting on clothes after waking up and not even brushing her teeth. / Sutton’s house had 3 different scent profiles in 6 pages.
Paging a better editor.

Sutton Blake moved to Galveston, TX after a messy divorce for peace and quiet. When her close friend and neighbor is murdered and the police ignore the picture she provided, she is determined to reveal the truth and the identity of the man who killed her friend. Deacon Winslow, Lone Star Ranger and wolf shifter also saw that picture, and he was sent to keep Sutton safe from the man who murdered her friend. Very exciting and suspenseful read with plenty of action, steam, surprising twists in the plot and a happily ever after. Wonderfully engaging characters who are dedicated to each other and find a bond that will last a lifetime. Fantastic book, a must-read that I recommend to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC provided by Book Sirens.
Wow! Lots of action, intrigue and suspense! Sutton got pulled into a huge mystery/cover-up that starts when her friend Sooki, an aspiring investigative journalist, was murdered. Deacon becomes involved when it appears that Sooki’s killer is the same man who killed Deacon’s sister and now has put a target on Sutton’s back. I got very peeved at Sutton. Not that she had to be a shrinking violet, but as a smart woman, no matter that her dad was a cop, SHE wasn’t trained to deal with an assassin (and could put Deacon in danger with her recklessness). She would tell Deacon she would stay inside. Then as soon as he was away, she’d go out on her own! Good thing they were hot together! Very exciting read!

Sutton Blake’s neighbor and friend Sookie was working on an investigative story that led to her being murdered and police believe it was a robbery. Determined to find Sookie’s murderer, Sutton drew a picture of the suspected robber/murderer and Deacon Winslow, a member of the Lone Star Rangers, sees the picture and recognizes him as the man who killed his sister. The murderer is now after Sutton and Deacon’s job is to protect her.
Deacon, a wolf shifter, realizes that this bright, stubborn, woman is his fated mate. As their relationship deepens, so does the danger. There are a few slow spots, but much of the book is gripping. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I didn’t like Sutton. She was idiotic at times and wouldn’t listen to reason. I get wanting to live your life and find out who killed your friend, but damn. It’s not cowardice to look before you leap. Take some backup. Call someone so they know where you are. This could have used a better editor. Everything felt cut and pasted. It was too repetitive and too much telling me what’s going on versus showing me. This wasn’t a true standalone. There are a lot of side characters that I had no clue about plus you never find out the identity of the reaper. I didn’t realize it was the third book in a series. That one is on me and not the author though.

She wants answers and he wants revenge. Both Deacon and Sutton are looking to find the same person both for different reasons.
Sutton is feisty, independent and can take care of herself. Full of sass, she isn’t afraid to go after what she wants and when Deacon bursts into her life with a listen to me attitude, she does listen (sometimes).
Chemistry, fated mates, pack and a super hot fast paced storyline to keep you glued to each and every page.
Another winner from Ms James!
