Cavalier's Gambit #2

Cavalier's Gambit 2

Rate this book
Wayne dreamed of piloting a thirty-foot-tall walking robot that was closer to a battle-tank than anything else.

They were called Walkers.

They were armed with laser cannons, rockets, missiles, and heavy kinetic weapons more similar to artillery pieces than guns, and everything that went with that.

Unfortunately, he had been declined military service.

His only avenue left to become a Walker Pilot was to make it happen all on his own.

And he did just that.

He became a true Cavalier, was wounded, gained squad mates, and founded the House of Hesh.

Now, the universe is shifting. Faster than Wayne can even keep up with.

He freed his home world and became a national hero.

Only to find that what had been an opening move in his life from going from a nobody, to a somebody, was only the starting point to an 'interesting life'.

A war inside the Confed is brewing. One that is going to draw every corner of the Confed into it.

Somehow Wayne is already managing to put himself front and center for it. Both as a spectator...

... and a Cavalier.

This second book was pretty good, but not great.

The MC somewhat tempered his outrageous statements that subconsciously flirted his way into multiple relationships. He still makes them, but constrains them mostly to his not yet harem women.

The MC still dominates most of the action, and his powers are making him more OP by the book.

Strangely, the intimate scenes were fade to black, and not even well done with build-up. Usually the author uses his Arand pen name to allow showing intimate scenes, but not in this one.

I will probably read the next book in the series.

Simp of a man. Not strong MC

I tried to like this book.Because the first one was just so good but it looks like the author has taken the WOKE pill.... And the main character has turned into a weak simp.Who lets the women in his life lead him around by his little body part...... He keeps talking.
About josephine Being the top of their relationship and all the other girls are bottoms with him stuck in the middle.I mean, be an alpha, already be the dominant alpha.Who takes charge and leads everybody else? Not some whimpering simp.Who doesn't know how to make his own decisions. I won't be reading anymore after this. This author has lost my business.

Mr. Arand does it again

A obvious build, but with the twists needed for a great story written by a master story teller. Yes, the level of interest from women is over the top, but it follows his writing style and plain works. You do need the first volume to get the total picture, but even without that this holds your attention. The connection to the sister trilogy being written under is alternate writer name is good and subtle allowing it to take many routes as well.

Excellent Story

Wonderful story and great characters. I love when an author writes characters who grow and develop, become friends you cheer for and enjoy hanging out with. When the same author is able to build a world with consistent rules, creative stories and fun tales? Gold!! Pure gold, which is what you have here. I look forward to seeing the next book in this series, and The Privateer too!!

Ill just start out that you won't be disappointed reading all of this author's works!!! Wether its Fantasy or Science Fiction it won't disappoint!!! The world/Universe building is exceptional, characters are tremendous and as always the author stayed true to his characters!!! Another great and epic adventure.

I loved this story from beginning to end. I've enjoyed every book William d arend and the other pen name Randi Darren. Some more than others and this one and privateers commission are the top of the list right next to super sales on super heroes and fostering faust in my book.

So good, so much Hesh!

This a has literally been a race from the start and this book is no exception. I hope the audible comes out sooner than later and the books keep coming too. The characters, old & new, are very well thought out and continue to grow and the story keeps getting better!

Both of the books in this series felt a little all over the place, but this one felt worse. Maybe it was because the protagonist didn't exercise a great deal of agency as far as the large-scale goes? Plenty of agency as far as tactical decisions combat scenes, but he kind just went wherever people pushed him outside of that.

Excellent sequel to an interesting story

William Arand is an excellent and prolific author. I have read most of his works, both stand alones and interconnected series. This is a interesting sequel of a man and AI convergence in Halo type warbots, just before interstellar war breaks out. The characters are interesting, the politics realistic and the relationships complex.

Another gem amongst gems

I absolutely love this series. Cavalier Hesh and his house are once again in the thick of things and it is awesome. From his broken filter of a mouth to his AI eating this book has so many fun and funny parts that I honestly can’t wait for book 3. And hope there are more books in this series.

-1 This book continues the trend of using they/them pronouns to refer to singular people, which causes great confusion when applied to a singular person during a group action.

-1 The whole book is a leadup to Josie's big wedding, all the while Wayne continues to add women to his harem.

-1 There isn't a lot here besides non-stop combat.

Even better than the first one

This is my favorite Armand series, and there have been some good ones. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while, and it didn’t disappoint! Unfortunately, this now means I have to persevere through the interminable wait for book three…

Another great story

Can never get enough of Arand's books. I want sure what to think of this series originally given is scifi nature, but I love it. I don't think this was as entertaining as the first book, but it was still an amazing read and I can't wait for book 3.

Pure Awesome

Love this series, can’t wait for the next book. Rarely do authors get a solid storyline and the right amount of verbal sparing/sarcasm right. This author has hit a perfect balance both in the first book and this one.

The 1st book is one of my favorites from Mr. Arand and I eagerly awaited this one. I was not disappointed it continues to be great with a nice cameo from his privateer series. Great mech combat too!
