Knotty Puckers #4

Knot a Pucking Fan

Rate this book
I am not the typical fan you’d expect to see at a hockey game, but I go whenever I can because it means I get to see my dad in his element.

He’s the coach, and one of my favorite people.

I love everything about the sport…except the players. They’re entitled and often alpha Neanderthals and I’d rather not deal with them.

Sitting with my best friend, watching the game and pretending that the guys are just part of it is enough for me. My fishnet stockings, witchy outfits, and combat boots aren’t necessarily in line with being the typical fan, either.

So why are members of the opposing team staring at me like I’m their next meal, and why is their PR manager forcing me into charity events with them?

Knot a Pucking fan is an enemy to lovers ice hockey romance with morally gray alphas that want nothing more than to play the game they love, but are doomed to lose until they stop fighting against the omega they need.
This is a standalone romance set in the Knotty Puckers universe, where each book features different players falling in love thanks to their meddling match-making manager.

NEEDS BETTER TRIGGER WARNINGS

The author warns you before the book that the heros are "morally gray" but assures us this isn't nearly as dark as her usual stuff and just vaguely talks about a traumatic past with alphas and lots of angst in the book, then on the first pages of the book there is detailed RAPE ON THE PAGES. No easing us in, no referencing it in the past. Full on, immediate, detailed rape happens on page. Basically the only thing I won't tolerate as far as "dark themes" in a book and not even a proper trigger warning before hand. If I had some sort of warning I could have at least prepared myself. Immediate no for me.

So much no. First off the first date of this book happens 45% in. And they’ve had one very short conversation before that so it’s not like there was any relationship building before that point. But my biggest problem was that even though the MFC had a ton of anxiety and was overcoming her intense trauma from being graped by men, I felt like the author went out of their way to make the point that women are just as bad or can also be bad or whatever. I cannot stand when people in a way excuse male behavior with women’s behavior as if it’s not a mostly male problem. Just no. It seriously felt like it was written by a man to me. And then everyone thinks her dad is so cute and protective when he’s also just super melding and basically telling her what to do. On one hand he’s telling her potential pack not to be overbearing while he is 100% doing that. He sets up her first date without checking with her fist. Like it’s just crazy to me people like this book so much.

I really enjoyed this book! I was hooked right from the start - and was raging by end the prologue. This book js emotional and angsty but also has these really sweet and (of course) spicy moments!

Caelia was dealing with trauma and trying to move forward with her life. She was so talented and strong and I loved her character growth - once she felt safe and supported and had her scent matches we really see her come into her own and work to move forward with her life.

Miles, Levon and Santo are her scent matches - they are kind of an eclectic pack that just works. They are so caring and protective and have this great banter - the one liners had me laughing and smiling. Yes they are sweet but also have some very steamy comments!

There are some great side characters (Addy and Troy especially!!) We might just see them again in the future!!

⚠️While this book isn’t as dark as Jenn’s other books, there are still some tough scenes/topics. If needed, please check the content warnings first 💜

I enjoyed reading this story. It was full of trauma and love.

Miles, Santo and Levon are all super sweet guys. The perfect alphas.

Cealia's story starts off with some trauma. It's pretty heavy and is definitely something you need to check trigger warnings for. She has a lot to work on since she's unable to stand being around any hockey players but she's also a little spitfire when required. I enjoyed reading about her.

This is my first Jenn Bullard book and I enjoyed the story telling. I find Jenn does do a bit of filler, some lines that I personally feel are overkill but it doesn't detract from the main story. As well, I felt as if she got over her trauma at certain parts of the story and then it came back at others. Perhaps this would've worked better for me as a duet to give more time to work into relationships and such. I'm not normally a reader of Omegaverses so maybe that's just how this stuff works.

I saw hockey and had to read it, honestly.

PUCKING FANTASTIC

Knotty Puckers, 12 books, one hockey team full of aggressive, undisciplined Alphas in need of the soft touch from an Omega. This shared world brings 13 authors together to bring a different Omegaverse story to life with action, drama and the inevitable heat. The Knotty Puckers shared world will definitely meet the needs of those readers seeking hot hockey players and the delights of a great omegaverse story.

Jenn Bullard will rip your heart out in the prologue of Knot a Pucking Fan, but will slowly and meticulously put you back together with a beautiful story of building trust and finding your place. I loved how the characters grew in themselves and as a pack, how the idea of hurt and pain was abhorrent to them. Their emotions and feelings were tangible on the page and as a reader, you are there, every step of the way. This book, number 5 in the series, was such a different experience from the previous Knotty Pucker books, I was eager for its release and I could not put it down.

It feels wrong to rate this book because I actively chose to read it...knowing it was bad. And it was, BAD. It also just does not feel like a book? I feel like I read mental daydream fanfiction that you conjure up sitting bored and tired in an airport. In one ear, out the other, no logic or independent thoughts necessary.

Incredible

This book was absolutely incredible. I expected nothing less from this author. Every time I read a book of hers I think I can’t love any other characters more and she outdoes herself every time. I am in love with these characters and can’t wait to read more from this series and this author.

Freaking fantastic book… I was so sad for Caelia in the beginning and as the book went on, I cheered her on when she started finding her footing again.. Santo, Levon, and Miles were so good for her. This series is becoming a fast favorite!

This book was so good!!! Not your typical read from this author, but I'm in love with it so much!!! Cae is a kick-ass Omega that was badly hurt, and after crawling out of the terror takes back control of her life. Such a fighter for a small little pixie. Love meeting her Alphas and watching them fall over themselves for her!!!

Go read this book!!!

Spoilers and triggers mentioned below - fair warning ⚠️

Gahh, this book was SO good. I've been wanting to read Jenn Bullard SO bad, but lately I've been in the mood for lighter reads, so I've put it off for a while. Now that I'm easing myself back into more gray/dark books (mood reader 😜), I figured this would be a good one to start with. And it was!

I don't have triggers that are commonly written in books, so I had no worries going into this book, but I know the same cannot be said for others, and as a heads up, please check your triggers and protect your health by bypassing the book if your trigger is on the list. One, namely being 🍇 on page.

With that said, with how emotional the prologue is, this really sets the story for healing for our FMC, Caelia. This is a slow burn, rightfully so after everything she's been through. If you're expecting immediate romance between the MMCs and FMC, this isn't the one. Anyways, watching the love between Levon and Santo while we waited for the big introduction of the MCs was so beautiful to watch. Normally, I like it when packs all bond together, but this was perfect in every way. Their connection was cosmic, and they took zero sh*ts from higher-ups, protecting each other and their relationship. I also love how Jenn handled each relationship within the pack and how she made each reaction more realistic than fabricated. It ran smoothly and made it nearly impossible to put down lol.

I can't wait to read more of Jenn's books, even the darkest ones. This opened a door that I won't be closing. 😜I'm beyond excited to read Troy's story through Jenn, and Addie's through Alisha. Two amazing side characters that deserve it all.

Am I the only one secretly hoping for a book with Curtis? Come on, I know I'm not the only one thinking it! A redhead, daddy alpha with legs like tree trunks, yes please! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 And let's be honest here, he really is the best dad to Cae and I want to see him grow into a beautiful relationship after being screwed over by her bio mom. Even if it's just a novella. Jenn I beg of you. 😂

Okay my favorite part of reviews are highlighting some of my most favorite quotes, there are wayyyy too many from this book but here are a few! 🖤

"Leave her alone," Freedman whispers. "Please. She's all I have." MY HEART

"I didn't get to tease you in high school," he says. "I'm just living my best life." #1dad

"My sphincter had a religious puckering." I'm cackling just writing this, sooo funny hahah.

This book hurt my heart.

In true Jenn fashion, it made me go through a myriad of emotions.

But it would not be a true Jenn book if there weren't some good things to go with the bad. First good thing, Caelia has an amazing father. Who is attentive, protective and loving. Who will do anything for his daughter. Second good thing is while Caelia has some stuff to deal with, her journey is not over, in fact it's just begun. Enter her alphas. Miles, Santo and Levon are amazing alphas who want nothing more than to care for their scent match omega. It was circumstance that they met. But it was fate that brought them together.

Keep in mind, this is still dark but it doesn't get as dark as Jenn's books usually do. But there is a graphic scene, so please check the triggers!

Knot a Pucking Fan is part of the Knotty Puckers series by a series of authors.

Caelia’s father Curtis was once the coach of an ice hockey team. Two players decided to assault Caelia once she becomes an omega, he quits and starts a new job in New Orleans and coaches the New Orleans Dragons. Caelia moves in with her dad six years later to New Orleans. She creates videos for social media content and she gets a job but is fired on the first day. Her dad’s friend Frederick (who owns the Dragons), gives her a job and she becomes the social media manager for the Dragons.
Caelia struggles with big crowds and hockey players after her past. She meets Miles who used to play on her dad’s team. He is now the coach for the Scented Scorpions.
Levon is an ice hockey player with the Scented Scorpions and has a rep and needs to go on a date. He has a relationship with Santo the team’s doctor/therapist. They all meet Caelia and they are her scented mates. They find their way into her heart.
Troy is a side character and I want more of him.

Another fab story from Jenn Bullard.

4.5⭐️

I am always a fan of Jenn’s devious mind and her foray into hockey romance is an absolute banger. Caelia’s awakening into her omega designation is rife with unimaginable trauma. She endures the unimaginable and it irrevocably changes her and her father’s lives: Determined to keep herself hidden, Cae buries herself overstimulation and busyness.

When an opportunity arises to relocate to New Orleans, she jumps at the chance to be closer to her father and carve out a life despite her fears. Fate takes strings and Cae finds herself once more in the world of hockey and its detested players.

This is heartbreaking beautiful story about how trauma shapes our lives; but how with unwavering support, healing can flourish. I loved the dynamics of this pack and how tenderly they reassure and bolster Cae as she learns to shed her fear.

This is not as violent and dark as Jenn’s usual works; however it does delve into some very traumatic content that could be triggering. Please check warnings, as this story is hard hitting from page one.

I cannot recommend this book enough and hope you will dive into this addition to the Knotty Puckers’ Hockey Omegaverse when it releases on January 3rd.

This is incredibly rough drafty and I'm just not one to force myself to finish something the author didn't bother polishing. Although saying it's unpolished is being generous.

The dialog is gratingly B movie, lacking the normal cadence one would expect in casual conversation. Part of that is the lack of contractions in places you'd normally expect to find them - "He is" "She is" "They are" "You are". There's a massive difference in reading something like, "You're my friend," and reading, "You are my friend." One of them feels relaxed, intimate, connected. The other reads stilted, insincere, and confusingly formal.

If English wasn't the first language for the person saying it, it would make more sense, but that's not the case in this book for any of the characters... all of whom lack these contractions in their dialog as well as their mental narrative.

Another abrasive aspect of the story is the contrived over-sharing as a means of accomplishing everything from exposition, to validating personal motivations, to sensationalizing conflict. It's like Austin Powers when he's first defrosted, "Due to the unfreezing process, I have no inner monologue." Every villain is very verbose and detailed with their underhanded schemes in a way that feels so utterly lazy and inorganic.

Like

I half expected them to go full Scooby Doo with a, "And I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for you meddling kids!"

And that's the other thing, the handling of topic of SA is frustratingly lacking in depth. It feels more like it's inserted for shock value - very abrupt and one dimensional. I happen to have strong opinions when it comes to authors who choose to insert graphic, on-page SA, namely that if they can't give it the appropriate time and consideration to respect the gravity of the crime they shouldn't be using it. The SA in this book felt like shallow, drama-generating content to prop up a weak storyline.

It was thoroughly mismanaged, leaving me both angry and with a ton of unanswered questions. I guess we're all just supposed to assume that

And what's with the "Women are just as bad as men" crap? Are we seriously trying to sell some bs schtick where the statistics DON'T state that 99% of perpetrators are men?? You can say it happens to men, too, without acting like we aren't living in a world that is disproportionately violent towards women. This felt very "All Lives Matter" adjacent.

Honestly, though, it feels like the author uses their own egregious lack of world-building and flimsy excuses as a means of artificially filling in their own plot holes.

"How can you quiet the noise in your head if you’re continually feeding it?”

This was such a beautiful story about how a traumatic event can alter who you are and shape your life in a way you never would have thought possible beforehand. I am loving this shared world series, and honestly I think this may be my favourite (so far). We get to see multiple people from the team and the personalities and story arc all weave together and also line up with others from this shared world.

This was a bit of a slow(ish) burn and rightfully so. It takes Caelia some time to push through her trauma in order to give the guys a chance. She struggles being around hockey players and given Miles (Scented Scorpions coach) was on the team that caused said trauma (but not involved in it - he was completely unaware) he unknowingly triggers her.

"We’re about to be getting a hell of a lot closer. It won’t change anything, it’s just a little sword crossing between friends."

Then there's Levon who was a bit of a goof, but a heart of gold and the type of person who doesn't care how far up the heiarchy/ladder you are - you wrong the people he loves and he won't be silent about it. I loved the pansexual rep with him too.

Santos was also a total sweetheart. He also had a bit of a bi-awakening in this one, but not over one of the guys. No, Santos has his bi-awakening over our fmc. He's never been with (or been interested in) a girl so he gets some firsts in this one.

I loved that despite the fact Miles didn't know what happened to Cae, he didn't fully believe the rumours that were spread (by the team mates who commited that crime and by the team owners who were defending them) that she (an eighteen year old) seduced players on the team (who were like 20yrs older than her btw) and that led to her dad 'abandoning' his team mid season. His heart broke when he learned the truth and he did everything he could to help Cae overcome her trauma, he never once pushed her or made her feel bad for him unfortunately being a trigger for her.

“A ghost is walking over my grave.”
"I think whoever my guardian angel is, they may be drunk. Can I get a sober one, please?"

Caelia was such a strong fmc and I loved her personality and the mental health rep, namely anxiety and ptsd surrounding her past trauma. Despite suffering from severe anxiety, she doesn't let people walk all over her and unfortunately, she is a bit of a magnet for the worst of humanity.

"I didn't get to tease you in high school," he says. "I'm just living my best life."

I absolutely love and adore Cae's father. I desperately want to see him get his own happy ending. He was Caelia's most fiercest protector, her biggest supporter and shoulder for her to lean on. I love him, haha.

I also hope Troy gets his story in one of the upcoming installments to this series. Poor guy, it is never okay to blame the victim of r*pe. Men can get r*ped too and for (minor spoiler) his wife to divorce him for infedelity and publically shame him for being r*ped is beyond f*cked. He didn't have a big presence in this as a minor secondary character, but he was such a 'heart of gold' person that I really hope he gets everything he deserves, and he deserves happiness.

What a beautiful heartwarming story. I just fell head over heels in love with Caelia’s Alphas, they’re just adorably scrummy in every way.

The prologue was a really tough read with what poor Caelia went through and I was shouting at the book with how she and her dad were treated afterwards 😡. However the whole story is about survival and love and ‘wow’ did Caelia get lucky with her alphas.

The whole book was beautifully written, showing how Caelia struggles with certain situations and tries to manage her panic attacks, as best she can, whilst working to regain her life. I loved her and her dad’s relationship, he was a real rock and support for her.

Miles is the growly coach to the Scented Scorpions. Levon a hockey player for the team, who struggled with anger issues before becoming involved with Santo. Santo is the team’s ever attentive doctor. Each had wonderfully different characteristics, and yet together as a pack, they fitted perfectly. Levon and Santo were together romantically before finding Caelia and their banter and antics were funny and lovable. Miles was the first to understand Caelia was his scent-match and obviously understood straight off that she had some sort of trauma and needed to be gentle and patient.

It was really funny reading how Caelia’s big tough alpha men, tried to navigate her growly and intimidating dad as the scent-match pull drove their need to be with her 🤣 l loved it!!

The pace was perfect as Caelia grew in confidence with the help of her very protective, nurturing and supportive men. Although the climax was a tough one, the unwavering, unconditional love and gentle reassurance from her alphas was both endearing and beautiful.

For Jenn this story was quite mild, the plot nevertheless has a powerful, heartwarming impact and one I can highly recommend.

This book starts on one of the worst days of our FMC‘s life. This book is about overcoming our fears and trauma, and not letting anything—or anyone—hold us down. In this book we also meet the men who are ready to face her fears head-on. We get thrown into a world of pucks, knots and some of the worst of humanity. What happens when we finally stop letting the boys club reign terror? When protecting the minority is finally more important than the majority?

While this book is in a lighter and fluffier series, this book is not that. After all, this is a Jenn Bullard book, expect darkness, check your triggers and take care of yourself, you matter!

Sports are not my thing, not playing and usually not reading either, so I was unsure how I would feel about this, of course the expectations were high due to Jenn but I was still on the fence—she did not disappoint! This book was amazing.

While it has a lot of hockey sequences it never felt like too much or too complicated, it’s so easy to tell how much time she has spent observing and learning about the sport especially since she was able to explain it in a way that even a novice could understand and stay “in the game”. This book was a rollercoaster though, Jenn is once again playing our emotions like a fiddle, very on brand to be honest.

This book had me hooked from the very first page, I could not get enough of it!

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sports and omegaverse, strike that, anyone who likes omegaverse with a bit of darkness.

And now to my favorite part: the quotes. Enjoy!

Life has a way of steering you down the path you're meant to take, but I think whoever my guardian angel is, they may be drunk. Can I get a sober one, please?

"Nope," she says proudly. "My alphas are invincible."
The fact that she thinks that, even in a heat haze, makes me feel like the luckiest fucking alpha in the world.

"Who do I belong to?" I tease him, tilting my head up to kiss him.
"Me. You're mine," he grumbles against my lips.
"Okay, you're right. I'm being ridiculous."
"Good alpha," I giggle as he growls good naturedly.
"I really want to spank you," Santo grunts.

You would think that in a light, fun hearted series that Jenn would possibly dial back the darkness that she is so famously know for. WRONG and believe me I am so here for it. While light can be fun, give me all the gritty darkness each and every day people!

I love hockey (second to my love for football) so any series I can get my hands on that explores that, I will EAT up and let me tell you, this story is everything. Jenn has such a way of writing characters, especially the FMC's, that while they are not perfect (and usually have gone through some things) you can't help but root from them to come out on the other side and Caelia is no exception to this. She certainly went through it at a younger age but getting to see the support system that she built around her, especially the bond that she had with her father, was so beautiful and if there was ever a subcharacter in any of Jenn's books that I was going to love, he was 100% it.

I loved the bond that she also had with her alphas. Dominant where needed but soft for her? SWOON! They all certainly knew just when to be possessive and then when the sweeter moments were made. I love seeing all different types of packs and how we get to the full pack in any of these OV stories and this certainly wasn't any exception. Santo and Levon being somewhat together before Caelia and Miles come along added another layer to this group and just like any of Jenn's OV writings, the getting there did not disappoint. The chemistry between them all was off the charts and the roller coaster I experienced throughout this book certainly helped push this one right up to the top of my favorites of Jenn's. 10 out of 10 would recommend and can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Sexual assault triggers.

This book treats the act of sexual assault ( past tense ) in an honest way.Caelia was very new to her orientation as an omega. So much so that she didn't realize how her scent would affect alphas. A set of alphas took her against her will . Her father rescued her and kept an eye on her as she tried to cope with her trauma. The book showed how some athletes and owners thought they could get away without consequences concerning themselves about the victim. The crime was covered up and nobody was punished. The story touches on her coping mechanisms and the absolute failure of many of them. She did not want to seek mental health help. It would have helped her. Her father was amazing in the over protective touch her and die attitude. Several years later Caelia finds herself living with her father again. A job opportunity with the team her father was coaching puts her back in her trigger spots. She runs into Miles who was part of the team her dad coached. He was a coach of a rival team now. He realizes that she was his scent match. Two more alphas on his team were also scent matches. Follow along as they pursue Caelia and try not to get on her father's bad side. With a match making PR, A vengeful owner's daughter and an over protective father, they have their work cut out. See how much our omega has changed when her safety is challenged. She had years of trauma and anger over the people who shattered her world come out as she fights back. She did finally get help as well as from her packmates, friends and family. I read this book in one setting. It was long, but worth reading.

Aaaaaand I officially have a new favorite book by Jenn Bullard. I love hockey. It's my favorite sport and the only sport that I enjoy watching. I was so FREAKING STOKED when I found out that Jenn was going to write a book about the boy aquarium, and she absolutely didn't disappoint. Jenn wrote some seriously freaking amazing men in this book, so I'm not entirely sure I can choose a favorite of them. I actually think that Caelia's dad may be my favorite character. LOL! I mean, he's the best dad, and he made me laugh a few times. Levon and Santo are already in a relationship (sort of) before Caelia and Miles come along. They're so cute AND funny together, which just makes it better. I wasn't sure how Miles was going to fit in, but he ended up fitting into the group perfectly. I know I already said it, but it's worth mentioning again that this is now my favorite book by Jenn Bullard. I may have to read it again soon.

Even though this book isn't nearly as dark as most of her books, it was still written by Jenn Bullard, so you know the FMC goes through some... stuff.. and there are some serious triggers. Just make sure you check the trigger warnings. That should actually be a rule for all of her books, by the way. Just across the board, if Jenn Bullard had any part in writing it (so this includes co-writes) then you should check the trigger warnings before reading. She is excellent at making sure to list any and all things that could be considered a trigger, as she's not only a great writer and storyteller, but she truly cares about her readers and their mental health.

Finally accepting your designation

Oh man the start of this story was absolutely heartbreaking and really shaped how Cae viewed her Omega designation and ruined her love of hockey. I absolutely understand why and how this shaped her life.

I absolutely adore Dad in this story. He was immediately all in to save Cea with no care for himself. The connection this father daughter duo has is absolutely amazing.

Enter the Alpha's who are her scent matches but have to be very careful because Cea is fragile and not comfortable with any Alpha except her father.

Miles is the former player turned coach who hates her father for abandoning them when he was their coach. Levon is our hockey player and is also involved with Santo who is the team doctor and has never been in erested in a woman before. I absolutely love the cheeky moments with Levon, Santo and Miles.

I love watching these big strong men deal with her growly and very protective father. Above all else the way these men approach Cea and are so gentle with her is absolutely beautiful. These men were perfect for her and seeing her blossom into the Omega she should have been was beautiful.

This story is not nearly as dark as you typically get with Jenn but I absolutely loved ever moment. Such a wonderful way to deal with a terrible issue. I also love the addition of what happened with Tony showing another side to things.

This book begins with a sexual assault. You need to know that going in if this is a trigger for you. Now, Jenn does say that it will be dark and starts with an "emotionally triggering first scene." She then provides an email to get the detailed list of triggers. I don't usually talk about triggers in depth, but it seems a lot of reviewers were upset by the triggering scene. To those readers and reviewers I recommend asking about the details before you read a book and trash it because you weren't prepared.

All that said, I liked Caelia. She's got some stuff to work though, obviously, and considering how involved her father is, you'd think he'd have forced therapy. I appreciated (didn't like) the portrayal of a national sport team covering up for their players. It is all too frequent and real. How Caelia reacts to triggers is done very well, and how her people react to her is well-done.

Now the guys! Miles, age-gap delight. Levon, sweet and loving. Santo, fierce protector. They are the perfect pack for Caelia's fragile nerves. I felt the pacing was a little off - too slow to get going and then off to the races when her heat hit - but it still worked.

The other aspect of this book that I want to address is the narrative that women can be as bad as men. There is a specific scene in the book that relates to this. I do not think that Jenn is minimizing what women experience. Dark romance is especially full of violence against women by men because it is far more prevalent than the reverse. I think that she wanted to posit how we react to a woman in the position of abusive power. It worked in the scene and worked in the story. And it in no way minimized Caelia's experience and struggle.

I liked this book as a whole. It is definitely a great addition to the full series, which has been a ton of fun so far!

Gosh, I just love Jenn Bullard so much, and this book is such a good example of why. 🥹

Knot A Pucking Fan goes through literally all the emotions - it opens with a really rough, dark, tragic SA scene. Throughout the middle of the book you see the omega, Caelia, deal with her anxiety + depression and grow into such a strong woman. She has amazing support from her dad, best friend Addie, her sweet sweet pack 😍 - so you get all the ooey gooey feel good scenes. Plus the spice! 🥵 And then during the final conflict in the book, without spoiling anything - I was just so proud of Caelia and how she's able to save herself. 👏🏻

The pack itself was amazing. The relationship between Santos and Levon was so cute - I love those "when you know, you know" relationships. And watching Santos' brain explode when he met Caelia was hilarious. Miles was also a great addition, with his history with Cae's dad, and the large age gap. Caelia herself? Her vibe + aesthetic, her strength, her relationship with her dad, how she stood up for Troy... I just adore her.

This was such a great read + I flew through it so fast. I've loved this entire series and I'm excited to read some of the side characters' stories too, like Addie and Troy. 🫶🏻

I loved “Knot a Pucking Fan” by Jenn Bullard! The Tiny Pixie has done it again; this time, she delivered an amazing hockey romance! Bullard stuffs this new book with Omegaverse goodness: scent matches, heats, knots, claiming bites, and a pack that bonds deeply through traumatic growth. Female lead and badass omega Caelia faces challenges at every turn. I love how Bullard makes realistic struggles feel surmountable with the pack; it's what I enjoy about OV fiction. Miles knew Caelia when they were younger and is amazed to find his scent match, realizing everything he assumed was wrong. I love how he pivots and becomes her strongest supporter. Santo and Levon are wonderful and dynamic characters. I love how they grow into their romances with Caelia, and she grows with them. Bullard creates delightfully complex and in-depth characters with nuanced relationships, which keep readers coming back for more. Once the pack truly meshes, they all grow and flourish as individuals. I'm excited to read more about Troy in a future Forbiddenverse book. I enjoyed the sneak peek of Addie and am looking forward to “Pucking with the Enemy” by Alisha Williams. Thank you, Jenn—I loved the trip to the boy aquarium!

Knot A Pucking Fan is part of the Knotty Puckers series written by Jenn Bullard.

Caelia has always been the coaches daughter. She learned how to skate at such an early age that she can’t remember not knowing how to do it. Her father even put her in a hockey league when she was younger to help her figure out her aggressions. After a terrible incident when she was 18, Caelia hasn’t been to a game since. But, now she’s moving back to her father’s house that he lives in New Orleans to start her life after graduating college. Will everything work out? Will this new job be a perfect fit? Will she be able to move forward?

This was a fun omegaverse that’s also a hockey sports romance. As usual, Jenn Bullard does a beautiful job of character building and world building to where you can’t help but get sucked into the story. This isn’t an easy romance and definitely has trigger warnings, so if you have triggers you need to pay attention to the list. I do like how everything came together and really enjoyed this story.

It’s a good story, but very graphic. Check the warnings. This was my first time reading this author. For the most part, I enjoyed. The Dad is the BEST, and I wished I saw more parents like him in books instead of the awful parents we mostly see. FMCs don’t need awful parents to go find love. It was refreshing to have this. On the flip side, there’s one character who is very supportive and has her and her dad’s back until her heat reveals that her mates are from a rival team. He does a complete 180, and turns into a bad guy. It’s even said “His daughter fed into his paranoia.” The odd thing is, that was the FIRST time his paranoia is brought up. Until then, this character was normal and kind. He even knew her history. Character flips like this are more confusing than angsty for me. I’m not sure it was necessary. The author uses it as a catalyst for the FMC to move to be with her pack, and be available for future good things. However, that dilemma is just as easily solved by the character saying, “I can find work anywhere. I’ll turn in my notice”. Same door is opened.

This was such an amazing story! Jenn has such a way of taking tragic backstory and turning it into a beautiful story of overcoming your past and learning to trust. Omegaverse is all about instinct and when Caelia goes through something tragic she falls into only trusting the negative, which keeps her safe but also very sheltered. She has to learn slowly to trust that not every alpha can't control themselves and that not all hockey boys are bad. Miles, Levon and Santo are all hockey affiliated and as such have to prove that Caelia is fully in charge of her own life and they will happily take things at her pace. Jenn does a great job of building onto the world, and her imagery is top notch. The book was moderately quick paced and very well rounded. Please make sure to check your triggers because, while as a whole this is less intense than most of Jenn's work, it does deal with some dark content not suitable for everyone.
