Solid read. Unlike the books I normally read, there isn’t a mystery for the reader to solve. You know who the murderer is from the start, and there are even chapters from their point of view.
Even though that’s not my preferred style, I still found the book entertaining. It was suspenseful, fast-paced, and kept me hooked so I wanted to keep reading.
That said, I definitely prefer thrillers where the reader gets to play detective alongside the characters. I like having multiple suspects, twists, red herrings, and constantly changing theories about who is responsible. Stop Running doesn’t offer that kind of experience, so it never became a book I was obsessed with.
Even though that’s not my preferred style, I still found the book entertaining. It was suspenseful, fast-paced, and kept me hooked so I wanted to keep reading.

Well written and pacey but the protagonists never sleep.

Stop Running van Kate Bold vond ik een oké boek, maar helaas zeker niet zo meeslepend als het eerste boek in de serie, Stop Him. Hoewel het verhaal zeker zijn spannende momenten had, waren er een paar elementen die voor mij het leesplezier verminderden.
Wat me het meest stoorde, was de hoeveelheid herhaling doorheen het boek. Bepaalde details, zoals de snee op haar hand die pijn bleef doen en haar pijnlijke enkel, werden zo vaak opnieuw benoemd dat het me uit het verhaal haalde. Op een gegeven moment dacht ik zelfs: “Girl, stop complaining and suck it up.” Zonder te vergeten werden de neonlichten van de casino’s in Las Vegas ook zeer vaak herhaald. Deze herhalingen voelden overbodig en vertraagden voor mij het tempo van het verhaal.
Daarnaast vond ik het jammer dat dit boek vrijwel exact dezelfde structuur volgt als Stop Him. De opbouw, met eerst het perspectief van het eerste slachtoffer, daarna een paar hoofdstukken die Beth en Cole volgen, dan een hoofdstuk vanuit de dader, daarna weer een paar hoofdstukken die Beth en Cole volgen, opnieuw een hoofdstuk dat de dader volgt, gevolgd door de onthulling van zijn identiteit en een finale waarin Beth en Cole hem net op tijd stoppen, voelde erg voorspelbaar. Zelfs het einde vond ik weer minder, met een epiloog die een soort “ze leefden nog lang en gelukkig”-gevoel geeft. Hierdoor miste ik verrassing en vernieuwing.
Het hielp waarschijnlijk ook niet dat ik het boek vrij sporadisch heb gelezen, maar zelfs dan merkte ik dat dit boek me minder in het verhaal trok dan Stop Him. Waar het eerste boek me echt wist mee te slepen, bleef Stop Running voor mij meer aan de oppervlakte.
Toch heb ik het boek 2,5 sterren gegeven en niet 2 sterren, omdat ik er niet echt tegenop keek om verder te lezen. Het was niet zo dat ik mezelf moest dwingen om het boek op te pakken, maar ik had ook niet het enthousiaste gevoel van “Oh ja, laten we eens even lezen.”
Al met al een redelijk boek, maar voor mij minder sterk dan zijn voorganger. Misschien moest ik een boek ertussen lezen, maar hopelijk brengt het volgende boek weer meer originaliteit en minder herhaling.
