Kind of an inconsistent volume of Sinsetro Corps adventures. Something is brewing beneath the surface, but mostly it's a rehash of of some sort of "power through fear" mantra, with a little bit of "I'm the best so shut up" thrown in to break the tension. Art, on the small scale was good, but on the larger scale of battles and big action, often left me wondering just what was going on. Two volumes left in the series.

I almost gave this a 2 star but luckily the second half of this book is much better.

See, the first half is the Godhand storyline. Which may be good (haven't read it yet) but you know what's not good? Only getting 1 part of a 3 part story. It's confusing and messy and makes little sense in the way it flows. The 2nd half is back to a normal storyline and Sinestro is ready to face his rival, Mongol, while also dealing with someone on his team betraying him.

Overall, after the messy first half, this recovers nicely. While not as entertaining as volume 1 we do get some pretty great fights, Sinestro being a smart SOB, and a shocking cliffhanger which leaves us guessing who. Overall, it's still fun and I'll read the final two volumes. A 3 out of 5.

I'm getting a bit bored commenting on how DC are useless at collecting multi-series crossovers, so just assume my usual complaints have been filed and we'll move on.

Once Sinestro gets out the other side of Godhead, he and the other Yellow Lanterns come into conflict with Mongul and War World, picking up on a rivalry established long ago before the New 52 began. Considering Sinestro doesn't spend much time in battle in these three issues, it's nice to get right into his head and see just how good he is at manipulating others, and how well he knows his own Corps so that they play their parts exactly as he expects. The Annual that wraps up this trade has a nice cliffhanger, and delves into the backstory of a lot of Corps-members that have been hovering around the spotlight but not quite in it.

Sinestro is one of two Lantern titles continuing after Convergence, and whilst the first few issues weren't really strong enough to justify that, I'd say that this second arc goes a long way towards doing it.

Continuing the story of Sinestro trying to find refugees from his home planet with the aid of his Yellow Lanterns and his estranged daughter Soranik, this volume doesn't fare much better than the last, albeit for different reasons.

The problem with this volume is that it starts many story threads that aren't resolved because this book was crossing over with others. This is left for the reader to figure out on their own, however, since no mention of "This story continues in Green Lantern #X" is added to help a reader know where to go next. As a result, this book keeps picking up momentum and then dropping it!

For example, one story features the Lanterns of many corps being captured by characters of the New Gods, being led by the warrior Bekka. We continuing are going in and out of this story, since parts of the plot are covered by different books, so that in this volume at one point we see the characters captured and in peril, and in the next, they are already free and fighting back thanks to events in a different book. I would've like to know what happened, thank you very much! But the editors didn't even bother to let us know which (of many GL books) would be covering this.

Other than that, I feel like overall this actually does better in the character department than the previous one. We see Sinestro still trying to rescue his people, despite the fact that the refugees who survived are mainly those who fled his control when he ruled the planet,) so we definitely get a strong idea of his sense of loyalty and his belief in his own power and rightness. We have a very interesting encounter with Hal Jordan, who is chased off by Sinestro (!), giving us an idea of how powerful he really is. We also get a short storyline where Sinestro faces Mongul, the leader of WarWorld, and this spotlights Sinestro's ability to strategize and use his Lanterns to further his own goals, even at the cost of their lives (I literally don't understand why anyone would join his corps since he is so uncaring about their lives and frequently sacrifices people if he thinks they are weak or unloyal.)

The best issue is probably the last. It appears to be some kind of special, and we finally get the backstory on several other Yellow Lanterns. However, it ends with a cliffhanger about a traitor in the ranks, which is a bit aggravating! Based on how this series has been printed, I can't even guarantee that the question will be answered in the next book.

The art is fine, probably a bit better than average, but not distinct enough to be a draw for me.

Overall, this book was fine, but I still feel that Sinestro's personality is offputting and makes me not really want to read about him, at least as long as he's written this way. If this is the way he usually is written, well, then I guess I got what I wanted and learned more about him!

Kreskę odzwierciedla ilość rysowników, tutaj trzech: Brad Walker, Dale Eaglesham i Ethan Van Sciver. O ile prace tych dwóch pierwszych jeszcze dają radę, to ten ostatni spisał się tutaj fatalnie, a niekiedy twarze w jego wykonaniu wyglądały jakby miały problematyczne zatwardzenie.

Zastanawiam się co dalej z serią. Bo postać Thaala zdecydowanie zasłużyła na własne historie, gdyż sam Sinestro błyszczał na łamach Green Lantern w New 52, a teraz gdy ją już dostała... przydałby się chyba autor, który zrozumiał by tą postać. Bunn ma przebłyski, ale to za mało.

Here's half of a story. Actually, closer to 1/3 of a story. The pieces don't really go together, and lots is left hanging, making me wonder yet again why DC feels compelled to release these volumes in a fashion that does not provide the overall story in any comprehensible fashion.
The whole Green Lantern/New Gods conflict seemed really stupid to me in general, and just seeing these pieces of it doesn't help at all. The best part of the collection is the Annual, which provides some back stories for a few yellow lanterns, and even they're not particularly good. This is a volume I read just to be able to say I've read it. Cullen Bunn's hamstrung here, and it shows. At least Becca gets a few moments to provide some semblance of a conflict for Sinestro. But that's about all (beyond admittedly good artwork throughout) this volume has to say for itself.

I enjoyed the Godhead event, the resolution didn't make sense that Highfather had no personal repsonsibilty or consequence for all of the murder.

Sinestro is easily the best of the GL family books at this point of publishing. Outstanding writing, art and colours. Martin Coccolo - the best artist on superhero comics currently. (Reis, Fabok and Pelletier are my top three)

The Paling aren't in this volume enough but the event derailed Bunn's story, so I expect more going forward. They were part of Mongul's scheming so at least they keep getting mentioned.

I love that since Tomasi wrote GLC, Mongul is a serious threat for the Corps and is a rival for Sinestro.

This run and Johns' I think may have made Sienstro my favourite villain, or at least in top five. This is fantastic.

The man's got a plan, and he doesn't really care who stands in his way of bringing order to the universe. Pretty solid characters make for an enjoyable read.

___
Perhaps you have lived in fear for too long, fear of the paling, fear of seeing other civilisations crumble as yours crumbled, and now you can only see fear as evil. But fear can protect the weak, or urge the stagnant soul to action. Fear is the preamble to greatness. Fear can make you feel alive. Fear, when properly applied, can be a force of righteousness. But that requires a grasp of fear's nuances, its purpose, that most do not comprehend.

This is a solid book but DC editorial collects an incomplete story as part of the larger Godhead storyline so this was missing too much. Sinestro's interactions with the New Gods was really good and Cullen Bunn has really found Sinestro's voice. Sinestro's interplay with Bekka was very interesting. The following story with Mongul was very good and fitting given their past. The annual was a nice getting to know you for the corps. The art was solid on almost every panel. Overall, an incomplete but compelling read.

I never read any comics with Sinestro in them when I was young. I was "aware" of his existence but didn't know his story. He really is a cool (and cruel) character. You're never sure what his next move will be, but you're sure it will be ingenious and probably angry and arrogant. You're also never sure if he's a good guy or a bad guy, since he seems to help out the good guys, but only when it fits in with his master plan.

Anyway, I'm glad these events pulled me into reading the series.

A fun read. A huge chunk of the book is dealing with the Godhead storyline so it doesn’t really work unless you’ve already read the story as it’s three issues from different points in the storyline. The rest is good.

Jest o wiele lepiej niż w poprzednim tomie. Soranik pokazała, że nie boi się swojego staruszka, a ten musi zacząć lepiej dobierać sojuszników, bo Korugar 2 szlag trafi. Ciekawe co dalej.

I was intrigued with volume 1 and was excited to see where it went. Unfortunately, the answer was an overly long New Gods crossover and a random loyalty sub plot. And that annual... what a brick.

Fantastic in it's execution.

World: The art is bordering between fantastic and ugly for me. On one hand the power of the ring and the splash pages are brilliant, on the other hand the facial expressions are a bit off. The world building is great. It's dense, interesting and supports the story and characters. The pieces pulled back all the way from Sinestro Corps War is great.

Story: For a three issue arc it's paced wonderfully and fast. The story is exciting and full of amazing character moments. The dialogue is very strong and well written. The direction this series is heading is good and unexpected. This creative team has made a very well written and viable series.

Characters: Sinestro is great. He's deep and complex and we have just enough of mustache twirling for it to be great. The rest of the cast is also strong, though I am still waiting for Natu to do something of note. Bekka is a great addition.

Very strong character work makes this a wonderful read. Who would have thought?!

Onward to the next book!

Ah yes, back to how I remember Green Lantern and DC comics, you can't just read the series you're interested in, you have to pick up all of the others to get the full story. I'm reading SINESTRO because I like SINESTRO not Green Lanterns not Red Lanterns not Superman or whatever other generic hero you want to throw in there. Reading issues in order leaves huge gaps and jumps around to random things that will mean nothing to you. I tried reading Brightest Day and suffered through stories about heroes and corps I didn't care about but I have no interest in doing it again. DC isn't capable of making strong standalone stories within the Green Lantern universe and that's just completely lame. Make the story about Sinestro and Sinestro's world, keep it self contained within the issues entitled Sinestro and I'd still be reading regardless of what generic enemy there is, or how cheesy everyone sounds, but nope. Instead we have only fragments, cardboard villains, and a pathetic cast of heroes. I expect more from comics now, it's a new era but apparently DC didn't get the message.

Much like many DC Volumes of the "Lantern-Verse", this Volume has quite a bit of the "New Gods/Life Equation" crossover event. Normally, this would be annoying to me, but I had not read these issues yet and it was very interesting to see Sinestro invite one of the New Gods to join the Corps. AND she proves herself to be a valuable member in the second storyline contained in this Volume, Sinestro Corps vs. Mongol and all of Warworld!
Sinestro is a good comic, but needs to find... something... I'm not sure what, to make it stand out. Maybe I just don't have as strong of a bond with Sinestro, like I have with Hal Jordan of the Green Lanterns or the concept of the Red Lantern Corps themselves (always prove to be an entertaining story on occasion).
Nice cliffhanger ending though! Who has set off the core of the planet to explode and betrayed the trust of Sinestro? We'll find out next Volume...
Recommend, especially if you enjoy the whole "Lantern-Verse".

2 stars it was ok. It could have been a 3 or even 4 star volume except it suffers from DC cross over syndrome. The story just keeps leaping past the parts that are covered by other comics. I'm assuming I need to read the main Green Lantern Title and probably one of the Green Lantern Corps titles. I didn't see the red lanterns at all in this story but it doesn't mean a big chunk is covered there.

Sinestro is a Villain who thinks he is a good guy. If they actually let him have his own story instead of tying it back into the main green lantern story it might be great title. He is smart. He is stupid powerful now that he is the master of Parallax. He is ruthless. This is a recipe for some great anti hero story telling but it just doesn't materialize.

I am not sure why the DC editorial staff doesn't take a page from the Marvel crossover tie in book of etiquette. Modern Marvel crossover tie ins tend to tell a complete story, that make sense within the context of the series you are reading. DC just doesn't seem to care about that. You can read a trade and have no idea what the hell is going on, since there is no recap between issues, no explanation for what happened in the other crossover books. You are given fragments of a story and told to make sense of it. It is probably my second biggest pet peeve of comic book stories.

I will give him this, though- I thoroughly enjoyed the single issue that showed the backstories of the various Sinestro Corps members. That was pretty fantastic.

Collection of New 52 Sinestro comics continue whilst Sinestro continues to get a handle on his leadership.

Sinestro gathers some new as well as old members together when it counts. I got to admit it was quite a surprise seeing Bekka in this story. Pretty interesting turn in her story in the New 52, its neat but something about it also makes me a little disappointed.

Stories are getting better but not really a fan. C-

3 star rating for the latter half of the book. The beginning is part of a massive crossover and simply doesn't make sense as you go through the trade. DC Comics really needs to fix these volumes which is are apart of a crossover. Either give us a summary of what happened between each issue or just don't include the crossover issues at all.

If not for the stop-gap tie-in issues with the Godhead event, this could well jump to 4 stars. I'm kind of surprised how good this series is, for the rough charisma lent to Sinestro as well as the fleshing out of his Corps. (Bekka makes a powerful addition to the team and story.)
