Lots of info, but dry and at times confusing because it jumps back and forth in time a lot. I did enjoy the author's opinion of "that's just racist bullshit tbh" shining through the largely academic text.
Basically: the Swedish government took everything from the Sami, over hundreds of years, deciding among other things, that their children couldn't go to normal schools and sleep in beds and eat the same food as non-Sami children because it would somehow... make them lazy.
There was also a long debate back in the 1920s about whether or not the Sami would be allowed to build, and live in, actual houses. And whether they should be allowed to work with anything apart from tending to reindeer. And that's just a tiny example of a centuries long case of discrimination and unfair treatment.
I'm gonna keep looking for books on this subject, because I want to know more.
