Rate this book
Amalienborg is one of the pillars of Denmark. The realm symbolised in one castle. But Amalienborg is also a home and a workplace, both for the royal family and the other residents of the castle and employees, like handymen, secretaries, gardeners, chefs, administration and cleaning ladies.

For the first time you're invited inside the doors of Amalienborg. Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik and Crown Prince Frederik tell in open interviews about growing up, live, and work at Amalienborg - and through the castle's many employees stories are told about everyday life then and now.

This is so much more than a book about a palace. This is a history of how this square with its four matching (and yet not identical) palaces became the home of the Danish monarchy. It is a showcase of beautiful photographs of staff and soldiers taking care of the various palaces (candid behind the scenes types of things.). It also provides interesting profiles of the four primary residents of the complex: Queen Margarethe (now former Queen); Prince Henrik (late husband of the Queen); Crown Prince Frederik (now king); and Crown Princess Mary (now Queen). These chapters are written based on interviews with each of them so they represent rich insights directly from the source. A beautiful and informative book.
