Gwen and Anabel are longtime friends; Gwen is a Vampire Hunter-in-Training; Anabel, a young widow. When Anabel receives just one too many messages from her deceased husband, Gwen figures it’s time to take action. She speaks to the mysterious Council, and they decide to take Anabel under protection in their Safe House. Gwen, determined to stay at her friend’s side, seems to be immune to the Safe House’s magickal barriers, meant to keep Vampires and other mystics at bay. She finds that she’s begun to have dreams of a friend murdered by the Clan Father, Leopold. As a result, they launch her deep into a mystery she cannot solve without help from the Council. While they search for answers, things become complicated when Gwen begins to have feelings for one of the Council Members (also Hunter); a handsome Russian named Dominic.
I really enjoyed this story. It was very unique, very different, and full of intrigue. I really can't wait to read more about Gwen and Dominic not to mention the difficulties of dealing with her emotions about Annabel and Erik. I would love to see more of what is going on with Denver. Very, very interesting perspective and I rather enjoyed the tale with all it's twist and turns. I couldn't put it down until I finished. The pacing was very quick and despite this it had time to introduce characters that I instantly fell in love with and a few that I wouldn't mind the vampires getting a hold of.
