Luke and Marlene return in the follow up to the Amazon best selling novel, Love of a Rockstar

Marlene Parker got her fairy tale ending. Luke Anderson, her one and only love and their darling little girl are finally a family again. However, nobody said marrying a rockstar is easy. The media is out for blood, groupies are singing on Marlene’s front lawn and people are deeming her the new Yoko Ono. If that wasn’t enough, there is a wedding to plan and pies to bake. An expert in chaos, Marlene doesn’t get easily stressed. That is, until an unexpected pregnancy digs up old insecurities, potentially threatening the life she has worked so hard to gain.

Will Marlene and Luke vow to cherish and to hold forever?

Or was their story never meant to be?

This novella is a companion novel to the Love of a Rockstar series, but can be read as a standalone. .

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

To Cherish and to Hold was a continuation of Luke and Marlene’s story.

Following Luke’s marriage proposal and vow to leave his rock and roll world behind him, he and Marlene are still picking up the pieces of their relationship and trying to make a go at being a family with their 5-year old daughter Nil.

But with Luke’s disgruntled groupies, Marlene’s insecurities from the past re-arising, and an unexpected pregnancy digging up old hurts…how will they move forward from all of this?

And with a wedding to plan for, cakes to be made, and old and new obligations and dreams to be accounted for-- on top of all Luke and Marlene’s ever piling list, will their HEA come with a hefty price?

Definitely a cute novella, albeit altogether just what fans of this series were looking for, but also kind of jumpy and abrupt to be honest.

I actually would have liked to see a scene or two elongated a bit more or for the last two chapters not to feel so rushed. But beggars can't be choosers when you're reading a novella to begin with.

For bk3, Broken Lullabies, I’m really hoping for a few things from TCATH to be unfolded a little in a behind the scenes type of scenario from the two main characters, and for Camille’s tick with Matthew to be finally unveiled.

It’s definitely going to be one hell of an interesting one, as by judging by the book’s synopsis and the sneak peak that author Nicole Simone gave us at the ending of To Cherish and to Hold!! Gah, I can’t wait!!

I found this one unnecessarily long.

It starts five months after Love of a Rockstar ended. Marlene and Luke are still going strong and they are working hard on opening their restaurant. They are also getting married soon so they have a lot on their plates.

But it's not perfect. Luke has to go on tour once again and Marlene has a big, huge, enourmous secret that will change everything.

I felt like not many things happened in TO CHERISH AND TO HOLD. I think that if it was shorter it'd have been better. If it was a part of LOVE OF A ROCKSTAR as an epilogue that'd be ideal. At least to me.

I don't regret reading it and I'm glad I know that everything worked out well for those two, but what's enough is enough.

This was a nice follow-up to Luke and Marlene's story and a nice peek into the next book in this series. Luke and Marlene have overcome a lot but life isn't always smooth sailing and I enjoyed that in this book, there were still some struggles they were facing but there wasn't any useless drama or silly misunderstandings. Also, I really look forward to Camile's story next - the little sample we got at the end of this book has me very intrigued.

This follow up is much better than the first one. Luke has developed into a likable character and I didn't feel the need to throat punch him as much as I did in Love of a Rockstar!

Luke and Marlene are together with their daughter, and ready to get married. Even though they seem to have worked through some of the major issues in their lives, they still find themselves facing a lot of stress and conflict that they will hopefully be able to make it through in order to continue moving forward with their lives and family.

I feel I need to mention that I received and read this book without yet having read the first in the series. While the author does a good job of mentioning what went on in the first book, I definitely didn't have the connection with these characters that I would have had I known them through the situations the faced prior to ending up where they are now. I think that will make a difference for readers of this series. That said, it was clear that Marlene and Luke both went through a lot to get where they are now, and I was really hoping that they would be able to deal with the conflicts in their lives since they seemed to be very important to one another. I didn't agree with the way Marlene handled one particular challenge, but I was glad that she and Luke were able to hash things out. Marlene and Luke are both likable characters who have a very strong love for one another and their daughter. Despite the challenges they face due to Luke's fame and their tough history, they seem to be determined to have the happiness they deserve.

This book was awesome Luke is a sexy rock star who has tremendous love for his family. Marlene and Luke have had a tough relationship, I mean loving a rock isn't easy but Luke has made a decision to be with his family to make up for lost time. You see how much they truly love each other and how he is an awesome dad, but no relationship is perfect. Luke is missing being in a band and Marlene understands that, so when Luke brings up a farewell tour, she's happy, but sad . she feels like she just got him back in her life to have him leave again, but she will not stand in his way. with planning the wedding, opening of the new restaurant, plus being mom Marlene has alot on her plate but when something unexpected happens will it be good news or bad.

when asked to review this book I looked it up and seen there was this on 1.5 and than there was love of a rock star 1, I took up on myself to read bk 1 than this one . I know it says you can this as a stand alone but why would you want to, both books are awesome and I would recommend reading love of a rock star first.

Oh Luke is a panty melter, "his mouth inches from my ear, he spoke. "I want to have a million babies with you, Marlene Anderson." There are times his woman don't care where she is she just wants her man, "I cupped his cheek. "That's a sweet sentiment but frankly I don't care where we have sex as long as you're naked and between my legs." I loved catching up with Marlene and Luke and I can't wait for Camille's story.

A nice ending to Luke and Marlene's story. He's great at surprises. I really need her and her BFF to make-up all the way. It's the past, forget it and move on already. Maybe that will happen in the next book.

To Cherish and To Hold is the continuation of Marlene and Luke's story from Love of a Rockstar by Nicole Simone. Though To Cherish and To Hold is said to be a standalone, I really wouldn't recommend reading it that way. Since this continues the story from the first book, you will miss out on a lot if you skip ahead. I also think that you need to experience the backstory for these two characters as their history is pretty complicated and has greatly affected their current relationship.

Marlene Parker and Luke Anderson are finally back together, and their family with their daughter is complete. But now that Luke and Marlene are getting married, they quickly find out that being together isn't always easy. As Luke and Marlene try to juggle the planning of their wedding, the opening of their new restaurant and raising their daughter, they are also trying to deal with the fallout from Luke deciding to quit the band. When Marlene suddenly realizes that she is pregnant again, she begins to worry that history will repeat itself. Can Marlene and Luke make it through together this time, or will they find themselves repeating the same mistakes they made before?

This novella was short and sweet. We got to see how far Luke and Marlene have come, and yet they are also falling back into old patterns. Marlene didn't seem to fully trust in their relationship and wasn't quick to go to Luke for the support she needed. With her going elsewhere in her time of need, she hurt Luke. When they fought they threw their past mistakes back in each other's faces and continued to hurt one another. Yet they also clearly loved each other and wanted to make things work. I just wish that they had talked to one another more and really leaned on each other. A relationship takes a lot of work, and it seemed like these two still had a lot of work to go. I was hoping to see more growth for these two, but it didn't really feel like that. They still have chemistry and a connection, but if they continue to run when things get tough their relationship will be in trouble down the road.

While it was nice to catch up with these two and see more of them, I have to say that I was hoping for more. I figured that after everything these two would be on more solid ground, and the fact that they both screwed up and acted poorly in this novella disappointed me. Marlene turned to others, and Luke got mad and shut Marlene out. I wish I felt better about these two at the end, but it honestly just felt like things were resolved far too easily which makes me think that they would be experiencing more of the same problems in the future. I have to say that I am interested in getting Camille's story next. I am really curious after seeing how she was acting when it came to Luke's friend. I hope that her and Marlene can repair their friendship after everything that has happened. Things were still strained in this story, and you could really feel the space between them. I think that fans of this series will want to read this story to get more of Luke and Marlene and will enjoy seeing how things are playing out after the end of the first book.

Title:To Cherish and To Hold
Author: Nicole Simone
Series or Standalone: Love of a Rockstar Series Novella
Rating: 5 Stars *****

Review:

To Cherish and To Hold is the New Adult Romance companion novella to Love of a Rockstar, and continues where that story left off with heroine Marlene, flawed hero Luke and their daughter Nil after the second chance at love they were given in the previous book.

It is recommended that before picking this one up, that you do go back in time and read the first story because in order to get the full effect of this story, you first have to get the full effect of Luke and Marlene and how they came to be who they are.

This was a great read for a couple of reasons. First, after becoming invested in her despite everything her and Marlene had been through, I got to have a glimpse into Camille’s upcoming story and that was all sorts of awesome. Secondly, I got to see an even closer glimpse into the lives of Luke and Marlene after having to walk away from them at the end of Love of a Rockstar.

This was a quick read. At times, I felt almost too quick, but not in a bad way. Only because I swear, watching Luke and Marlene both grow and connect even more never gets old or tiring. I could read about them forever. The pacing in itself was fantastic for such a short read and it didn’t by its end leave me feeling as though there were things not covered. It was everything I expected and maybe even a little more.

It’s very real in how everything is portrayed. When things aren’t perfect, the couple fight or they disagree, it’s never pushed to extremes, and the situations and reactions are very real and refreshing for what is a fictional read. I could often times see myself reacting in much the same as Marlene and even Luke at times and it only deepened the connection I already had with the characters.

The addition of Marlene’s family just like the first book was a really endearing touch and even added quite a bit of humor that blended perfectly with some of the more serious situations the characters found themselves in.

This is a happily after happily ever after and it was flawlessly done and not without its share of moments that give you pause. I held my breath on more than one occasion throughout. I loved every bit of it and I’m so glad that the author saw fit to give us fans of the couple their sweet ending.

Fantastic read and one I would definitely read again.

Picking up shortly after the end of the previous series installment, Luke and Marlene are caught up in a whirlwind of wedding preparations, restaurant renovations, and fans camped out and upset over his leaving the band. Along with their precious daughter Nil they're trying to get used to living as a family but the past is always affecting their future. With Luke still feeling guilty over not being there after Nil's birth and Marlene's doubts about his commitment to being a family, there's lots of tension just waiting to explode. When Marlene discovers something that will irrevocably change their family, both her and Luke's reactions lead to more hurt that becomes a true test of their love. Will their reunited family survive or will Luke run again?

This is a short story that puts Luke and Marlene through the emotional wringer. They're older and wiser though, so while their feelings are initially hurt over a secret being kept they actually talk it out as adults. With some sage advice from Marlene's irascible grandmother they take the time to learn the art of compromise and it reflects the maturation that both have gone through to reach this point. Marlene's a less judgmental woman now, understanding of the other commitments Luke has instead of being threatened by them. Luke's become a true romantic too, cute and caring of Marlene when she needs him most. Add in the sweet, wise beyond her years little ball of energy Nil, and you have one big happy family.

Surrounding this newfound family is an emotionally supportive cast of secondary characters. Two of them look to be heading towards their own story and I'm looking forward to the evolution of their relationship as their interactions crackled here. Matthew's the lead singer of Five Guys and an intriguing dichotomy of shy and sensual and I find him immensely appealing. Camille is Marlene's best friend but their friendship's strained because of a lie Camille told that they're slowly overcoming. She's a bit hardened and jaded and could use a bit of Matthew's sweetness. Ultimately, though there's not much steaminess or rock 'n rollin' in this book, it was still a nice read and a good segue into the next installment.

Even though this can be read alone I have to say I did this and don't recommend it. There is a past between the characters that without knowing it fully confuses you on some of the actions taken. In particular Marlene. I found her at times aggravating and annoying. I hated how she made Luke feel at times. Especially with the pregnancy deal. Hello even I understood his issue there. I didn't understand her position. I needed the background to do that and without reading the first book I didn't know it. I also couldn't emphasize with her because of that. I felt more for Luke than Marlene. You could see he was trying and doing everything he could to show Marlene love and support. He wanted her to feel reassured and safe and yet she did at times seem to be pushing him away. Her not trusting him was a issue for me. Yes the love was felt in the book but not the trust at least not from her. Luke you could see the love and trust. He made mistakes in his past but he was trying to make amends and be more.

His love for his daughter and Marlene comes out in spades. Marlene not so much. You see that she cares for Luke but you never really connect with her character. Again I think that is because I don't have the complete background. I loved Luke and his best friend from the band. He was precious. I can't wait for his story.

The story itself was sweet. A love gone awry and now finding there way back to one another and reuniting to have a beautiful love and family. Except I don't feel Marlene is trusting anyone. I feel lost with her. Luke I feel the the love and wanting Marlene though I felt is apprehensive. This takes away from her character I think but I also believe that I needed the full background to understand her fully. The characters were likeable some loveable such as Luke.

A sweet fun novella on love and family. About coming together and being a family and finding the one to spend your life with.

This novella (#1.5 in the Love of a Rockstar series) picks up shortly after where Love of a Rockstar left off so you’ll want to make sure to read Luke and Marlene’s story in that book first if you haven’t already. We find them preparing for their wedding and the opening of their new restaurant as well as dealing with obsessed girl fans camped on their lawn, devastated over the break up of The Five Guys. Life sounds like it’s hectic enough for this pair with a five year old daughter and then things get even crazier!

Like Love of a Rockstar, To Cherish and To Hold brings up some interesting and engaging relationship angles. Without giving all the details away, Marlene’s actions in a certain situation cause hurt feeling for Luke; is her reaction understandable given their past history or did she handle it badly? It’s an interesting thought to ponder and one I could see both of their sides, which is the nice thing about their characters—they seem real and imperfect in a developed character kind of way.

I love the cover—very sensual. And when Luke asked Marlene, “‘Are you going to admire it or f*ck it?’” in regards to his impressive length, I was really hoping we’d get a little more steam.

For everyone craving more of Luke and Marlene after the ending of Love of aRockstar, this addition to the story serves it up but still leaves room for so much more.

Broken Lullabies, #2 in the Love of a Rockstar series, is coming next (June 2015) and will feature Luke’s band mate, Matthew, and Marlene’s friend, Camille. Sample chapters included. This looks like a really engaging one too so keep an eye out for it.

When I read Love of a Rockstar, I quite liked Luke and Marlene so I was definitely up for some more of them. And it is always great to see what happens after the HEA. In this case there are few bumps on the road that makes the story interesting and a good short read.

From the beginning of the story it is obvious that Luke and Marlene really love each other but that doesn't mean that everything for them runs smoothly. It is actually quite the opposite. Each one of them makes mistakes that only hurts the other one. But it was quite interesting to see how they manage to overcome the problems and little by little build a steady base for their future together. I have to say that Luke is quite the sweetheart with his romantic gestures and thoughtfulness. And that's way I was quite pissed with Marlene on few occasions. Especially when she found that she is pregnant again. Luke definitely didn't deserve the hurt she bestowed on him. But thankfully they managed to solve the insecurities plaguing both of them and finally found their HEA in the most romantic way :)

In a few words, this is quite a good short read and if you loved the first book in the series, you will definitely want to read this one. If you haven't read the series yet, then I will really recommend, you start from the beginning because this is not a standalone :)

I enjoyed this followup novella to Love of a Rockstar, perhaps even more than I did the book. It was great to see how Marlene and Luke were doing after reuniting. Luke was no longer a rock star by his own choosing and has decided to change career paths to spend more time with Marlene and their precocious daughter Nil. Marlene is planning their wedding and helping with the renovations.

I really liked the changes in both Marlene and Luke. They're really trying to let go of the past and move forward. But it seems like their pasts won't let them go. Then something comes to light that makes dealing with renovations and planning a wedding seem like a breeze. It makes their harder and darker days seem more like the present than it is. I liked how they both dealt with it once it became clear they way they'd reacted had hurt the other's feelings.

The story is a quick read. Things progress quickly. Nil was precious and I adored seeing Marlene's grandmother again. I also liked seeing Matthew and Camille. The two certainly have chemistry and if the excerpt from the upcoming book is to be believed, they have history as well. I look forward to reading it.

This being sort of a closure moment for Luke and Marlene. We are led right back to where Marlene excludes Luke, Luke goes above and beyond to prove how much she means to him, and we get chaos.

Pregnancy, weddings, renovations, tours, groupies, and best friends being weird. It's filled with lots of stuff that keeps you turning the pages to know what happens next. I did enjoy this book and can't wait to read Camille and Mathew

There were a lot of errors in this book. Missing words, misspelled words, mixed up homophones, you name it. And the characters were not very engaging—I kept finding myself getting exasperated at the dialogue, the plot, the characters.
