Teen Wolf Sterek

You could pay a psychiatrist to listen to you talk, to help you understand yourself and the situations and people around you, to ask the questions that will make you think more clearly, being quietly supportive while challenging your beliefs.

Or you could take a road trip with your sister Cora and get all of it for free.

Three months on the road, and Derek returns to Beacon Hills at peace with his past and with himself and with a new perspective on life, especially when it comes to the importance of certain people in it and what to do about it.

This story was kind of profound. This was such a very original and different take on the events that happened after the Hale fire.

description

I am shocked I never looked at it this way; shocked that it never seemed odd to me. It does now. I love that this story gave me just a whole brand new way of interpreting what I believed. I don’t now believe this but it was a cool new spin for sure.

But alas, Derek wasn’t really Derek even though it totally worked for this story and the end? I don’t know what I feel about all that.

Scott’s part was pretty believable though.

DNF

I am going to date myself here: Anyone remember Real World Chicago? It featured Aneesa and Chris ... at any rate, this cast proved quite frustrating for MTV. Why you might ask? Surprisingly, because they were just too "mature" in resolving conflict - in other words they acted logically. MTV had banked on angry Aneesa instigating drama filled TV, and sometimes she did ... but then the house would sit down together, discuss the issue, apologies would be made, different perspectives would be understood and the issue resolved - pleasantly. Oh what a thorn in the side of MTV editors that cast was.

This fic felt a bit like The Real World Chicago. This fic is about how everyone in Beacon Hills would act if they acted maturely, demonstrating personal growth and logical decision making skills. And as much as I deplore melodrama ... this proved, well, boring.

I do hope everyone in Beacon Hills would be blessed with this maturity, but I guess I don't really want to read about them being so commendable in their behavior.

I thought this fic started out great, with Derek returning to town after the events of season 3a, with a different understanding of the events of the fire, and things Laura did when they left town. As such, his guilt and self angst is MUCH better, Derek is in a much more positive place now, and he's realized he wants Stiles. *squee!*

It's nice and slow burn, with lots of flashbacks between Derek and Cora, with Cora telling him things he didn't know, about Kate, and about Laura, and about Peter. This fic puts a whole new spin on things, and actually has Peter as a really nice guy. Maybe too nice? I kinda like sneaky, smarmy, always up to something Peter! It also has it's own spin on why Laura left town with Derek, and I thought the readers should have been told Laura's motivations behind it all, but that never happened.

By the end though, I felt things got TOO sweet. Once Derek declared himself to Stiles, they have the sex and then the mating bonding biting thing that very night, no dating, nothing, just bam! I love you, mated! I would have liked more buildup to that part of things. Then there was a too perfect epilogue, that has everyone settled and happy and perfect and shooting out babies left and right.

All in all, a decent, but not stand out story. Should be noted that this author did mix up her words a few times, can't remember specifics, but I remember it happening more than once.

A lot of pack dynamics.
Derek learns a lot of things he didn't know that puts all his guilt and self loathing in another light. Which I loved all that. It even turned Peter into a good guy, who was victimized by Laura after the fire. Gotta admit, I don't care for good guy Peter. I prefer manipulative, and slightly evil Peter. I like when he still loves and cares for the well being of his pack, but I don't want to change what makes Peter great to begin with.

I should take this off the smutty list. There is only really the one smut scene. It was a good scene though. I would have liked a little bit of make out scenes, with a build up to the sex, rather that WHAM sex and love. But really that was okay, it wasn't a complete turn around or anything, so I was good with that.

The epilogue got a little to fluffy bunny for my taste, but it was okay.

I really liked the Laura twist...that was the best part, and I wish it had be hashed out a little bit more. Overall, a nice Sterek read, that with the Laura twist could have been a better Sterek.

I really enjoyed this one, it had the right voice for me today. It had some plot holes and jumped a bit but was otherwise well written.
