An Alien Survival Guide #2

Night of the Living Toilet Paper

Rate this book
Marv and his friends are back in this exciting sequel to I Know What UFO Did Last Summer. Will they be able to stop a new threat to their town?

A few months have passed since Marv and his friends stopped what he believes was an extraterrestrial plot to take over the planet. But he’s not letting his guard down. If there’s one thing Marv knows, it’s that aliens could attempt another invasion at any time.

So when he spots an unmanned motorcycle racing into the woods, pursued by a paranormal investigator, Marv’s instincts scream that something very weird is going on. Marv tracks down the bike and hauls it to his fort for closer inspection. That’s when he sees a Sleech—one of the creatures he encountered last summer—slithering out of the motorcycle’s tailpipe.

But when Marv returns to show his discovery to his friends, they find the fort completely destroyed. The only thing left is his emergency stockpile of toilet paper.

And it’s alive.

Now Marv and his friends must unravel the mystery of the Sleech before their entire town is overrun by a monstrous swarm of toilet paper. Because if they don’t stop it in time…

It’s going to wipe them out.

This is a fun thrilling paranormal fast paced read. I love how the author took something that everyone uses daily and doesn't do anything. Brought it to life, this reminded me of the Goosebumps series. I believe this is a fun amazing series for people of all ages. But I suggest reading book one so you know all about the characters.

Wow what a really good book. I loved this one just as much as the frist one. Marv getting up to some E.T things and Space Cadet and Baller One help with a new player in the game. I really hope Kevin is writing another book. I would also love to see Marvs handbook and if he has an notes inside it. I really hope I get these books for Christmas.

Night of the Living Toilet Paper by Kevin Garone is another fun and spooky adventure with Marv and his friends. Just when they thought their summer alien troubles were behind them, a strange creature returns to their hometown. This time, it has the ability to take the form of everyday objects—and it chooses toilet paper! What follows is a wild, creepy, and hilarious fight to save their town once again. Perfect for middle grade readers who enjoy a mix of humor, scares, and fast-paced action.

I absolutely loved this book! This is the second book of the series and continues following the main trio of Marv, Jace, and Nora as they face their newest adversary of the living toilet paper, with the help of a friend from their class!

I loved the concept of the toilet paper becoming sentient because of certain forces and seeing how something so boring and unassuming can become a great threat to this group of kids. I cannot wait for the third book!!

Marvin and the gang are back! They thought that their alien troubles were all behind them, but boy were they wrong! It’s definitely a quick read, and my kids and I enjoyed it! It’s funny, has just the right about of scare - equal to a goosebumps book, and just all around fun! I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

What worked:
Jace (Baller One) and Nora (Space Cadet) are friends of the main character, Marv “the weirdo”. Readers need to know that Marv is obsessed with the possibility (likelihood) of UFOs and an alien invasion. Pretty much everything he sees must be connected to an alien conspiracy, and the first book convinced him that Nora and her father are aliens. Marv doesn’t believe in the paranormal because the possibility of ghosts is just crazy. The book opens with Marv witnessing a motorcycle driving by itself, so it must be driven by an alien with a personal cloaking device or using remote controls. Jace and Nora are reluctant to believe him at first, but they eventually witness things that are hard to explain. Also, Marv manages to convert a family skeptic into a believer in his rantings when the plot reaches its climax.
Book one involved slug-like creatures the kids called Sleeches, and another one returns for this adventure. However, it has abilities the kids didn’t experience last time, and a paranormal expert has been chasing them across the country. The topic of toilet paper arises from Marv’s stash that he’s hidden in his fort in case of an alien invasion. The toilet paper actually becomes animated when the Sleech takes control of it. The team is joined by another boy who is given the nickname Pyro. In addition to his infatuation with fire, his ultimate goal is to cover the school with the most epic TP attack ever. Marv and his friends usually avoid interacting with the strange kid, but they realize he has knowledge and skills they might need.
The story is told from Marv’s point of view, allowing readers to follow his unusual thinking and reasoning while inside his head. Readers will be amused when Marv looks at normal situations and translates them into alien explanations. Each chapter begins with an excerpt from the handbook, How to Survive an Alien Invasion: Your Guidebook to an Inevitable Future. These sentences are relevant to what’s happening in the story, and prepare readers for what’s to come. Some of them talk about how difficult it will be to find people willing to believe you, because it’s so hard to collect any evidence of aliens. Others relate how aliens are way more intelligent and resourceful than expected, so readers should be on their guard. Some excerpts even warn readers of dangerous encounters that will probably result in their deaths. The introduction to each chapter provides quick background knowledge to help readers connect with events in the story.
What didn’t work as well:
The book has strange things going on, which makes Marv’s imagination seem less wacky. The first book has Nora’s father working on a top-secret transporter project, so the contrast with Marv’s alien conspiracies isn’t very clear. Are the Sleeches alien lifeforms, paranormal, or something else? The humorous effect of his far-fetched perceptions of “normal” occurrences is diminished.
The final verdict:
This series is fun for young readers, and I suggest you start with the first book. Marv’s wild ideas are humorous, and the author creates a good deal of action in the adventure, especially during the climactic confrontation. Overall, I recommend you try this book for yourself.

note: I received an advance copy, and blah blah blah. You know the rest.

The irresistable, alien-chasing young scamps are back! Thankfully, author Garone thought his prior book, I KNOW WHAT UFO DID LAST SUMMER, was good enough to continue the story. NIGHT, while a bit different in scope, has all the charm and enchantment of the original.

In NIGHT, original members Marvin (code name: Gold Leader), Jace (code name: Baller One) and Nora (code name: Space Cadet) all return, and they have expanded their ranks to include Kenji Kowahara (code name: Pyro). You can guess what his specialty/obsession is! The story finds the four of them trying to destroy a giant animated mass of toilet paper, which is under control of a Sleech, one of the creatures from the first book. It’s a good story and written as well as the first, it’s just a bit smaller/more focused in scope. The first book had the team in a few different places, (woods, a super secret lab) and tackling a few different related problems. This time, it’s pretty much the team vs the paper monster in their neighborhood, that’s the crux of almost all the story. Does it work? Yes, very well, it just isn’t as broad of a plot. Think of it as a smaller, but just as good version of the original. (kinda like those downloadable expansions they do for video games these days)

There are some good modifications from the first book. For one, the kids really don’t get any help this time, it’s up to them alone to use their ingenuity and make the right decisions to outwit the creature. And, that’s what makes the characters and their specialties stand out. Marvin and Jace are still good as team leader and tactics officer, respectively, but Nora’s character plays a bigger role this time, as her developing abilites as a backyard mechanic prove critical to the team. Kenji is also a big part, as his fire obsession comes in very handy when the team is on the defensive against the TP monster. As before, it's the character interactions that make these books so entertaining. Also, the author may be planning ahead, as there are some very slight hints that the kids may be starting to mature just a bit. Example: they do have to deal with actual loss of a person (a minor character) but a loss nevertheless, and there are a couple other subtle hints.

If you liked the first one, you don’t want to miss this, it has all the characteristics that made the first one such a pleasant surprise. Whether they are trying to use an inflatable mattress as a boat, or riding motorcycles while spitting flames, it’s hard to avoid loving the antics of Marvin and his team.

It’s a new school year, and everything in the sleepy town of Roxboro, Delaware seems to be back to normal. But the ever-vigilant Marv is never one to let down his guard, keeping a watchful eye out for alien threats, especially after the events of last summer. After a survival training mission alongside his friends Nora and Jace, Marv notices something out of the ordinary: a motorcycle that can drive by itself. Soon, the mystery of the motorcycle’s otherworldly inhabitant grows deadly as it chooses a new host, one capable of destroying them all. The fate of Roxboro is once again in the hands of Marv and his compatriots, a race against the clock to save their town from the two-ply terror.
“Night of the Living Toilet Paper: An Alien Survival Guide Novel” by Kevin Garone is a hilarious high-stakes adventure that takes place in rural Delaware. A direct sequel to the hit “I Know what UFO Did Last Summer”, this latest quest to protect the planet from extraterrestrial threats is engaging and humorous while still knowing when to be serious. The characters are consistent, with watchful Marv, dependable Jace, and sarcastic Nora once again joining forces to guard the planet. We also get to see a new addition to the team: Kenji, a prankster with a love of pyrotechnics whose firepower may come in handy when facing deadly menaces from beyond. Together, Marv and the others learn to rely on each other, a solid message of friendship in the midst of a deadly disaster only they can hope to solve.
The action keeps rolling at the perfect pace, winding to an epic and satisfying conclusion that leaves a perfect segue into future adventures. I loved the previous book in the series, and this new addition tops it, grabbing life by the horns in a truly unforgettable showdown. This winning combination of unique setting, awesome characters, and side-splitting laughs in a fight for the future earns this novel a stunning five out of five stars. My only complaint is that I wish I could have my own copy of Marv’s survival guide!
Containing fire, mention of strangulation, fantasy violence, and action sequences that definitely shouldn’t be tried at home, this alien survival story is suitable for readers 12 and up who love heroic tales full of hijinks. A tale of protecting the planet alongside your best friends, this lighthearted book with a profound message of camaraderie is sure to bring a smile to your heart.

I received a free review copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Title: Night of the Living Toilet Paper (Alien Survival Guide)
By: Kevin Garone
Publisher: Temor Press
Published Date: September 23, 2025
ISBN-13: 979-8991328449
ASIN: B0F8LR81LX
Page Count: 192
Triggers: Fantasy violence, strangulation, combustible pranks, and the horrifying image of toilet paper coming to life
Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Skull Dread Rating 💀💀 (two-ply terror is real)

What Did I Just Walk Into?
A sequel where the real villain is not aliens, not the government, not even a rogue motorcycle. It is toilet paper. Animated, alien-controlled, town-destroying toilet paper. Marv is back on guard duty, dragging his friends into yet another round of “save Roxboro, Delaware before bedtime.” With the addition of Kenji, a pyromaniac prankster, the squad now has firepower to match the two-ply menace. It is ridiculous in the best Goosebumps-meets-Stranger Things way.

Here’s What Slapped:
• The humor is spot on. You cannot read about killer toilet paper without laughing.
• The survival guide excerpts before each chapter are a brilliant touch. Conspiracy-theory chic for kids.
• Each character gets a moment to shine. Nora’s mechanical skills, Jace’s steady presence, Kenji’s fire obsession, and Marv’s chaotic alien paranoia all pull their weight.
• The pacing is quick, the action constant, and the climax is a messy, fiery, Charmin-fueled showdown.

What Could’ve Been Better:
• The plot feels smaller than book one. Less globe-trotting mystery, more “neighborhood cleanup on aisle TP.”
• Marv’s obsession with aliens is funny, but still no deeper dive into why he is this way. The kid needs a therapist as much as a survival guide.
• I wanted more of the town’s reaction. If my toilet paper came alive, I would never step foot in a bathroom again.

Perfect for Readers Who Love:
• Middle grade sci-fi that leans silly instead of scary
• Goosebumps-style “horror” with a wink
• Teamwork, friendship, and fire as valid solutions to alien invasion

This tale is as fun as the title and holds more than a few surprises the entire way through.

Marv isn't about to be caught off guard by another alien encounter and, with his friends, is training to make sure they are ready to take on the next attack. When a training doesn't run quite as planned, Marv finds himself as the last in the forest after his friends return to their homes. That means, he's the only one of the group to witness a driverless motorcycle being chased by a car, and the only one to see the Sleech come out of its exhaust pipe in their hideout. When the friends finally join him, they discover that the Sleech has taken over their entire stash of toilet paper...and because nobody would ever believe them, it's their job to stop it from destroying more.

I did not read the first book in this series, but that wasn't a problem. It was easy to sink into this tale and immediately get lost in the adventure. The characters all carry their very own personalities and quirks, which makes them an interesting bunch. Each has their own talents and makes an important contribution in fighting the Sleech. They don't always agree and frustration arises, sometimes, but they work very well together and have each other's backs.

There's a nice dose of humor and an edge of ridiculousness to the growing tension, which makes for many surprises and all sorts of unexpected moments. Thanks to the imaginative situations, it fits nicely to the intended age group. The growing danger mixed with the toilet paper alien remind a bit of Goosebumps but in a scifi direction and not the scares. Add that this group of friends is on their own to solve the problem without adult help in sight, and it's a read action/humor fans are sure to enjoy.

Marv (Code Name Gold Leader) is back, still looking for aliens, and still being right about the existence of aliens even though just about everyone still thinks he’s a conspiracy nut. The sad thing is that that’s true even of his friends who know better. They have had the adventure of a lifetime and seem to think it is all over. But fortunately, author Kevin Garone still has plans for Gold Leader and his team.

The big unanswered question from the last book was what the heck was the mysterious sleach, which I thought was an alien in the first book. I’m still not sure what it is, but at the very least it is a heck of a lot of trouble for Gold Leader and his friends. In the first book, the sleach was dangerous and horrifying, but in this book, Garonne makes it interesting and fun (in a bad guy sort of way) as well. It’s the focus of another wonderful adventure that creates a fitting sequel to the first book.

But the thing that makes this book work is Garone’s development of the relationships between Marv, his friends, and finally his sister. It’s believable, it’s fun, and in the last case, it becomes very touching.

If you stop to think about it, what would you have done if you were a child who knows aliens exist and no one will believe you. It makes for a very enjoyable story. I hope Garone writes a third volume.

If you enjoyed I Know What UFO Did Last Summer, you’re in for a treat with this follow-up. Things are finally getting back to normal for Marv and his friends after their eventful summer. Even so, the gang keeps up with their alien invasion drills between school, family obligations, and basketball practice. When Marv spots a driverless motorcycle speeding into the woods one night, he knows the extraterrestrial threat isn’t truly over. Soon, a familiar foe takes an unfamiliar form and poses a real threat to the kids and their families.

Night of the Living Toilet Paper is action packed, fast moving, and fun. This time around, every member of the group gets to put their skills to use. The addition of Kenji (codename: Pyro) to the group introduces some welcome chaos to the plot. The stakes feel higher in this sequel, and I appreciate that it’s up to the kids alone to save the day.

Again, there isn’t a strong character arc or much growth. I would love to know more about what keeps Marv so invested in stopping an alien invasion despite years of people disregarding his concerns. Hopefully there will be more books in the series to answer some of my questions.

Thank you to the author for providing the e-arc for my honest review.

What I Did Like:
+The title, while still a bit silly, actually worked this time for the story. It doesn’t really affect my rating but I figured I better mention it since I mentioned it as a negative for book 1.
+The characters are still wonderful. They’re all realistic but different. They don’t read like cookie cutter characters. I even adored the addition of Pyro, who added a sort of comedic element to this one.
+Again the events of the book are satisfyingly intriguing and exciting. There’s a lot here that will please even an experienced Scifi reader.
+Silly in a good way (as the title implies). This gives you some chuckles but it doesn’t take away from the serious events of the story.

Who Should Read This One:
-Middle grade readers who like good characters, funny storylines, and a little action!

My Rating: 4 Stars
Of course, start with I Know What UFO Did Last Summer for maximum enjoyment!

If you like the paranormal and you’ve got a good funny bone, then Night of the Living Toilet Paper is worth checking out. It’s technically middle grade, and I’ll be honest—I had a little trouble getting fully engaged at first. That might be because I haven’t read the first book in the series, so maybe I was missing some context.

But wow, it really picked up toward the end. And no, skipping ahead won’t work—you’ve got to stick with it to enjoy the payoff. The “scary” parts are more silly-spooky than actually frightening, so no kids are going to be traumatized into avoiding toilet paper.

I really liked the cleverness of the kids in the story, and as a fun bonus, each chapter begins with an excerpt from How to Survive an Alien Invasion: Your Guidebook to an Inevitable Future. Honestly, those little snippets might come in handy one day!

Overall, I wouldn’t call this the greatest thing I’ve ever read, but it was funny, clean, and creative. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the mood for some lighthearted paranormal fun.

Stranger Things meets Goosebumps in this new MG paranormal series by @kevingaroneauthor
🛸
Marv thinks the alien invasion is happening when what he believes to be a UFO crashes in the woods behind his house. How could this be connected with the new girl who moved in next door? Marv doesn’t know, but he’s gonna find out!
🚽
It’s been a few months since Marv’s close encounter and something strange happens again! This time it’s a motorcycle driving itself through the woods. Marv takes the bike to his fort only to return the next day to show his friends and discovers the fort is completely destroyed and the toilet paper left behind is alive!
🧻
These titles were so fun to read (sorry it took me so long, Kevin!) It brings humor and the supernatural together that will appeal to many kids. I love the play on words with the titles too. Book 1️⃣ is out now & book 2️⃣ releases 9/23!

Kevin has done it again. In this much anticipated sequel to I Know What UFO did Last Summer, Kevin brings Marv and his gang back to stop yet another, or is it part of the same one as before, invasion of Earth. The Sleech are back again and this time they have taken over toilet paper. Also Marv has Kenji, Pyro, join the team. Someone with the nickname that invokes fire and fighting living toilet paper have to go together. This story is for middle graders but adults will fall in love with Marv and his POV as he tells his versions of what is going on. It's humorous, tense, and an overall fun read. Can't wait to see what Kevin has in store next.

Welcome back to your favourite Alien obsessed 12 year old Marv & his best friend Jace aka baller one & Nora who isn’t an alien aka space cadet. With the newest recruit Kenji aka Pyro (wanna guess his speciality)

This is another fun thrilling read filled with adventure, humour & a fast pace it brings you just as much entertainment & excitement as the first book.

Marv don’t believe in the paranormal there is no way there are ghost that is just crazy talk. With no help the kids must outwit the creature. Nora has a bigger role to play in this book which was nice to see & the new members Pyro
Is indisputable with his special talent used as defensive against the TP monster

I really enjoyed getting to read this, it had that element that I was looking for from a sequel in the Alien Survival Guide series. I enjoyed the horror comedy element that I was looking for and enjoyed that it was a living toilet paper. I was invested in what was happening and would have loved this as a kid. Kevin Garone has a strong writing style and hope there is more in this world and from Kevin Garone.

The title is a dead give away for what is in store for you in this story. It is bunkers, but in the best way possible. The story is so creative and full of surprises.

This is definitely a comedic middle grade horror novel with heart at its core.

I'd say you don't really need to read the first one in this series as I haven't read it and still enjoyed this story.

The second book is just as good as the first! You do need to read the first book or you may confused. It has great characters and fun action. Grab your tinfoil hats because you will never look at toilet paper the same again. Nobody “wants to suffer death by toilet paper”. I may be using this quote on my husband - “Over here, you foul beast of the abyss!” This series is fun for all ages.
