These mysteries were good popcorn for my brain, they were a break from the heavier stuff on my bedside table. Although I enjoyed this series, which I'd been curious about for a while, I doubt I will seek out the rest of the titles. I suppose because they're easy reads, my access to them needs to be easy too. I did find the logistics of the main character flitting about LA to be pretty unbelievable, but as long as I let go of that and focused on the mystery, I could enjoy the formula.
This collection of three mysteries is funny, sharp and insightful. The author finds humor in the conflicting emotions and physical challenges of being a stay-at-home Mom with small children. I hate to admit it but I discovered Ayelet Waldman through her husband Michael Chabon. Since then I've read several of her books and enjoyed them all.
The stories weren't bad though I only read the first two. They were about a crime solving young mother that was an ex-public defender. My ADHD really kept me from enjoying these books I think due to the fact that they seem so slow moving. I believe there is definitely a genre out there that would love this book it just wasn't quite my cup of tea.
Really enjoyed the 3 books in 1. A different slant on the solving of the murders, but hey we have all been there after staying home with a young kids the need to do something else. Juliet and Peter make it work. Al provides the humor, will definitely read a few more.
I thought I was going to enjoy this book. A mother of two ones trying to solve mysteries sounds good but so much didn’t work for me in this book. I just could never connect or even really like the main character, Juliet Applebaum, all that much. I did not enjoy how her relationship with her children is written and third the mysteries were just not that impressive.
