Wilted is a collection of poetry that dives into the complexities of abuse in its various forms, challenging the simplistic black & white narratives society often views this heavy subject in. Mae Setrova opens up about her own experiences with abuse from family to friendships, and romantic relationships to the self-inflicted harm we sometimes endure because we think we deserve it. By the final page, readers are sure to feel a sense of empathy, understanding, and connection to every word.
My stomach hurt while I read this. Seeing someone experiencing similar things to myself was surreal. Being able to put words to how I feel was something I didn’t know I needed.
Mae Setrova constantly impresses me. The writing is vulnerable, relatable, and filled with gut punches that leave you KNOWING you were never along in this crazy journey called life.
The poetry is powerful and quick to flip through on a day where you feel like you need someone to relate to.
Absolutely recommend both this work and Lung Capacity to add to your collection. :)
Wilted feels raw and reflective. I appreciated how the poems moved through family, friendships, and romantic pain while showing how self blame can grow from those experiences. It reads like a journey toward understanding rather than judgment.
