“There’s something rotten in human nature that even a pessimist like me struggles to understand. Something that drives people to stamp on the weak, tear down what others have built, and poison the land they live on, the water they drink. Our hatred of our fellow human beings runs so deep that we’ll willingly destroy ourselves if there’s a chance it will also hurt the people we don’t like.”

This issue focuses on the importance of coalitions, especially uneasy or imperfect alliances, for making change. Even as Ivy has retreated from her all-out fungal attack, she’s still kind of making a mess of things. We’ll see if her friends can bail her out…but I’m worried.

An army of 'Green Knight' eco-terrorists and Killer Croc rescue Ivy from government soldiers. Pretty exciting. Spoiler alert, they drag off Croc in the end. Next month there will hopefully be a rescue mission. I dig it.

Wow Janet really opened the flood gates now and things are really popping off. After making that deal with bog Venus last issue to save her life, Janet gave Venus the idea to dispel some of the magic of Marshview and open it to the prying eyes of the GCPD. Allowing them to send in a strike team right after Ivy. Janet and Peter ended up running into the magical woods, where they of course ended up seperate. Janet came to the realization that she made a big mistake and she still wants to help Ivy. The woods ended up leading Janet to Gotham and Peter to Seattle, where both have the chance to gather forces to help Ivy.

And Ivy is going to need it, some may call the GCPD a joke that needs Batman…but when dealing with Ivy their guns have very hairy triggers when they see any plants move. Janet had a bit of an easier time getting help than Peter, all she had to do was remember which Alley sewer Croc is hanging out in these days. Peter had the harder job of going to the order of the green knight and convincing them to join Ivy and her cause…even though she fought against them. The current leader, Bella Garten, has no qualms with her group leaving of their own free will and allowed Peter to speak to them. His words expressing how much Ivy has sacrificed to the same cause they believe in and how little they are doing in comparison seemed to strike the heart of one named Wendy. I’m not exactly sure who this character is, hey she seems to have some kind of purple infection in the right side of her body, she claims that she remembers Ivy before she looked like this and Ivy probably doesn’t remember her…but she is the first to break the silence and go with Peter to help Ivy. She can’t just stand by and let Ivy’s death hang on her conscience without putting up a fight. Her words spurred the other members to realize that they can’t just abandon their would be messiah and to go with Peter to help her. He did end up doing exactly what Bella was afraid of, he completely divided their group but just as they are free to leave, they are free to come back.

And they joined and came back just in the nick of time. This issue comes to an end with Ivy almost being put into a police escort…only for the forces of the green knight and croc to come down on the GCPD forces and break Ivy free. Ivy came to the realization that even though she was done living her life as an eco terrorist…the rest of Gotham and the world would never stop seeing her as such. So why would she turn away from people who are fighting for her? As long as the most powerful people sit back and continue to do the wrong thing, there will always be people like them to fight like this until those people change. Unfortunately out of the fight Ivy is freed but croc is taken, and geez Janet is looking way worse by the end of this issue. This is only going to get tougher from here.

“Every day, the world’s most powerful people have an opportunity to wake up and do the right thing. But they don’t. And as long as they don’t, there will be people like us, who are willing to fight this. Until those powerful people learn to sit up and listen.

Because we don’t fight because we want to. We fight because we have no choice.”

I don’t know when Janet is going to be exposed, but I hope it’s sooner rather than later. Literally all of this is her fault, and I don’t have much sympathy. Of course everyone was going to be endangered once she made her deal. She doesn’t get to make that decision and then be shocked when it turned out exactly as Bog Venus said it would.

"Every day, the world's most powerful people have an opportunity to wake up and do the right thing. But they don't."

Several good lines in this issue. Rather insightful. (It hit a bit harder because I had M83's "Outro" stuck in my head for the entire issue... Now and forever...)

Powerful issue. I love it when people come together to fight for something they believe in.

More of a setup issue setting up the pieces for a potential upcoming confrontation but it still has the familiar elements that makes you love the story and art.
