It's an odd choice to dedicate a book about a designer dog to three kids who got puppy mill laws changed in Illinois, and that is all I'm gonna say about that.

All Puppy Place books are good but this one really touched my heart for some reason. I don't even know why it touched my heart but it did and I want to read all of the books in the Puppy Place series. I like the Puppy Place books because they inspire people to either get dogs from shelters or just to help dogs in any way. This book helped me decide to own a shelter when I grow up so I can help animals because its the right thing to do!

Another cute Puppy Place read to my first graders.

Per my first graders: It was cute because the front cover was beautiful. It was awesome because we got to know Lizzie better. It was good because it was charming. It was beautiful because Gus found a forever home. It was a mystery because we didn't know who wrote the letter.

Lizzie is in elementary school. Her family, the Petersons, have a puppy named Buddy plus they foster dogs and help them find homes.

Lizzie's mom is a reporter for the local newspaper and had written a story about Gus, a Labradoodle who had been the ring bearer for his owner's wedding. Unfortunately it turns out the groom is allergic to dogs and they have to give up Gus. The Petersons agree to foster him and find him a new home. Since Gus' first story had attracted so much attention in the newspaper, Lizzie's mom writes about him needing a new home and the family gets bombarded with letters and phone calls. Surprisingly Lizzie's mom is very picky about who should adopt him.

Though this book is a quick read and directed at elementary-aged children, I found it entertaining. There is a learning experience and a puppy tip at the end. It is written in third person perspective and first person from Gus' point of view. It is the thirty-ninth in the Puppy Place series, which currently has 66 books in the series, and works as a stand alone.

Great book, but how did all those people know about Gus so quick? I mean some people were calling from Nebraska and one was from SWEDEN! Gus wasn't even that famous. All he did was go to a wedding and when a woman one found out about Gus she wanted to use him in another wedding of hers! I don't know, I just thought it was strange.

I read this story with my daughter. We hadn’t read all of the previous books in this series, but that didn’t seem to matter much. The story seemed rather generic and dull to me, but my daughter found it interesting. Great for young dog-lovers.

I thought Gus was good. It was probably really fun that there was a contest. I can't belive that Lizzies mom actually entered in the contest and ended up winning! But then, Lizzies mom said, "Even thought Gus is so cute, I can't take him. Me and my family are a foster family and I can't give up fostering." Even though Lizzies mom was probably sad that she couldn't have Gus I think that Lizzies mom is still happy. Probably because Lizzies friend Brianna won the contest because Lizzies mom would still gets to see Gus, because Brianna usually comes to Lizzies house after school. Maybe sometimes Brianna could bring Gus with her. I think that Lizzie and her mom are both realy glad for Brianna.
I get why Lizzie's mom really loves Gus, even though she more of a cat person. One detail is because she enters the contest. Also, he is super cute, and it's love at first sight for Lizzie's family. He was in the newspaper and online, even on Social Media!

The book the Puppy Place: Gus is a creative story carrying a message to foster and adopt dogs. The story line is heated nicely by human feelings of jealousy, kindness, and determination. It also shows that emotions should never get in the way of good judgement.
The main character Lizzie is from a dog loving family. They adopt and foster dogs, which basically means keeping them as their own until they can find, in Lizzie’s words, a” forever family”. But the latest arrival is special. His name is Gus, and everyone in the family adores him even more than they do with usual foster puppies. This is especially true for Lizzie’s mom, whose usually sound judgement is clouded at the sight of cute little Gus. And when a news article about Gus and his previous owners resurfaces, the public starts to want him too. Soon, a contest is put into place to determine who gets the irresistible puppy, and Lizzie’s mother illegally enters. Who will win the prized pooch? Read the book to find out!
I think this book is geared towards younger kids, around the 7-8 age range, especially girls. But in general, any dog lover would enjoy this book, which includes a cute front cover picture of Gus. There is also a lot of other books in the Puppy Place series, so if you like one, you’ll like them all!
I gave this book four stars because it was a nicely put together story that I instantly took a liking to due to my love of dogs. It was a good read and I enjoyed it.

Gus is a very active puppy who needs a new home after his owner gets married and they find out the new spouse has an allergy. He goes to live with a foster family who comes up with the idea of a contest with the local shelter to find him a forever home. I like that it brought attention to shelter animals and found homes for some of them and for Gus.
