I really enjoyed this book! I've never read anything by this author before but does she have a way with words! Descriptions in this book were just so beautifully written and interesting. Very easy to picture in my mind and sound beautiful. Makes me want to look these places up to see how real they are! I love a book that has some spice but also has an actual story to tell. This book definitely kept me on my toes. I did not see the ending coming and the suspense was great! Sammy was living every woman's dream dating her celebrity crush while also living their worst nightmares as well.

Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read this book. The plot was really intriguing. Who doesn’t dream of meeting their favorite rockstar and having a whirlwind romance? It was like a very well written contemporary romance with some thriller and mystery sprinkled in. The stalker was pretty original, every time I thought I figured it out I was wrong. It was a little slow to start out but it kept me interested and towards the end I couldn’t put it down. I will definitely be recommending this book to others.

I don’t know if this book just wasn’t for me, but I didn’t get pulled into the story like I wanted to. The plot line is intriguing and I really wanted to love this, but found the structure confusing with chapters labeled as ‘The Others’ being POV of side characters without providing much to the story. I definitely think there is promise and potential in this book, and some are going to truly love it. It just was not for me.

We are introduced to Sammy, the co-owner of a series of brewery/restaurants, and Gabe, a world-known music star, who also happens to have a restaurant side business

The two, quite literally bump into each other, and while Sammy is tending to Gabes wounds back at her brewery/restaurant, not only does she find out that he is her favourite music star (and crush), but she also agrees to help Gabe redesign his outdoor dining area at his restaurant.

What follows is a story of fear, growth, second chance love, and the complexities of embarking on a new relationship later in life, when life has already somewhat jaded you. Alongside this, there is also a thriller subplot of mystery and danger.

The story had a smooth, steady pace, and I found there were several chapters that ended with a baited hook, reeling you in with a suggestion of the danger ahead.

There were a few chapters, mostly those headed 'Others', where I found myself confused initially. It wasn't clear whether I was reading from the pov of Claudia, Oscar, or the mystery character.

Overall, I found Intoxicating Pursuit to be a breath of fresh air when comparing it to most of the other second chance romance books available. This had a lot to do with the addition of the thriller subplot.

The characters of Sammy and Gabe grew and developed throughout the book, battling and overcoming issues of trust and guilt, facing crippling anxiety and learning ways by which to manage it

I would absolutely recommend this book, and I will go on to read anything else Miss Bloom has published, with excited anticipation.

Sammy is a single mom and business woman making it own her own and raising a strong daughter. Gabe is a sexy rock star touring the world and going incognito when he can. A meet-cute turns into some steamy chemistry that pulls these two characters together for quite a fun ride of a book! Throw in some security guards, a really fun mom/grandma, lifelong friends, and a stalker, and you have yourself a little romantic suspense that you can read over the weekend.

I loved that this was a "mature" romance. Now that I've gotten older, the romance novels I read usually have main characters in their late 20s or early 30s. Our two mains here have children that are practically grown, so we're talking characters whose shoulders or knees MAY pop when they get up in the mornings, but then again they are both in really good shape, so they may not sound like a box of Rice Krispies just yet.

I enjoyed this book as a fun beach-type read. It's cute. It has a nice solid plot and great character development. It's enjoyable. It's a solid 4 from me.

Thanks in advance to NetGalley and Heuchera Publishing for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The plot of this book was unlike anything I’ve read before. The basic premise- an accidental run-in with a celebrity ending in romance, sure we’ve seen it before. The stalker isn’t overly original either. But the way it’s written as a mystery and less like a romcom had me hooked.

The writing was odd in some places. There are a lot of deep dives into some topics that honestly take away from the book. They add unnecessary detail. The emphasis on the biking, the description of the mountains/PNW, the technicalities of the brewery.
There’s also unbalanced descriptors of Sammy’s hair compared to the physical descriptors of any other character. Some verbiage was strange (like the teenage daughter referring to her soccer coach as “the coach”) and didn’t flow naturally. Especially dialogue.

The twists were great. The antagonist wasn’t super obvious, and there were a handful of red herrings to keep you guessing.

"Intoxicating Pursuit" is a suspenseful, romantic novel about a chance encounter between a 40 somthing single mom and her favorite musical rockstar. They've both lived enough life to have gained perspective, wisdom and a few scars as well. Their growing connection is based on mutual experiences and feels real and grounded. The mysteries and complications grow and keep you guessing all the way through. Missy's descriptions are vivid and delicious. This is a beautifully written book that engages you immediately and keeps you turning the pages. I highly recommend it.

What a fun read! I really dug the unique love storyline (involved a famous character); the bits about the main character’s work (reminded me of my own); the surprise mystery (kept me picking up my kindle at every free moment); and the best friend exchanges (actually brought a tear to my eyes). But mostly, I enjoyed the strong, smart, successful and fierce family driven lead character. She was someone I could see myself being very good friends with. Highly recommend this book and hope to have the opportunity to read more from this new author!

This is my first book by Missy Bloom, and I truly enjoyed it. I found Sammy extremely relatable and crushed on Gabe just as much as she did. I found that Missy really was able to pull me into the story, making it hard for me to put the book down. I wish the book were a little longer, but only because I really was obsessed with reading this book. The plot is great, and I loved the twists. I highly recommend this amazing story. I have to say the little mystery/stalker was a great addition to the story. I wish more books had that. I am excited to read more of Missy Bloom

Just enough possible suspects to keep you guessing and keep driving the suspense. Gave3.5 but rounded to 4 because of the character development .

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance review copy in exchange for an honest review!

Sammy is a strong, independent single mother. Gabe is a famous musician. Their paths cross and they find themselves intertwined in each other’s lives—but there are some sinister undertones at play.

Tropes: Celebrity Romance, Strangers to Lovers, Secret Relationship, Single Mom/Dad, Insta Lust, Blackmail/Stalker, Miscommunication

I was excited for this one! And although it didn’t completely knock it out of the park for me, it was still an enjoyable read for the most part. I was intrigued by the premise of an older single mother running (literally) into a famous musician and their love story taking off from there. It’s kismet. She also owns a brewery, which I love. Both Sammy and Gabe are older single parents and click right away. I did get the vibe that it was a little insta-lusty between them, but they formed a fast friendship.

What turned me off was how Gabe handled things after "the event," which is the main plot point of the book. He basically slut-shamed Sammy and immediately blamed her. I get that he’s in the entertainment business and has been burned in the past, but I didn’t like how he handled conflict with her. Then Sammy’s like, “Oh, la-di-da, it’s fine—he deals with crazy people all the time, so it’s okay.” Like... I don’t think it is, girl!

After that event, the book definitely took a turn I wasn’t expecting based on the synopsis. It’s not a direction I particularly liked. I enjoy getting the warm fuzzies when I’m reading a romance novel, and although this book started out that way, it quickly shifted into more of a thriller vibe—which might have been the author’s intention. I just think she tried to do too much: too much romance and too much thriller. You’ve got to pick one and let the other be a less intense subplot.

As the book continues, we get chapters from “the others”—the people responsible for the stalking and blackmail—and that kind of ruins the love story. I was too stressed to care about them falling in love. Also, I got super annoyed when they tried to hook up out in the open again. Like, y’all gotta keep that stuff private for the time being.

Then everything comes crashing down and, of course, Gabe blames Sammy for literally everything and takes no responsibility. He doesn’t even hear her out. Doesn’t respond to her. At this point, I’m like, Sammy girl, go get a new man because this one actually sucks. When the climax happens with “the others,” and it was honestly pretty scary. And like I said before, it just wasn’t at the level a side plot in a romance novel should be. It was so over the top and intense—it completely overshadowed the romance. I didn’t get those great romance novel vibes at all. By the end, I was just mad because Gabe sucks and Sammy deserves so much better.

Overall, this had a fun premise, and although it started out promising with the celebrity romance and secret relationship angle, it quickly took a dark turn and never quite recaptured that happy romance feel.

💭Thoughts:
~ I liked how Sammy and Gabe were both single parents to teenagers and understood the importance of being a parent
~ Always enjoy a book with different points of view, except at times for this book I was extremely confused. When it was the chapters marked “The Others” for point of view, I was never sure whose point of view it was.
~ The beginning chapters of the book were quite intriguing, but as the book went further on I was losing some interest. About half way in, I had figured out who the stalker was, or had a pretty good idea who the stalker was. So this took out some of the mystery and intrigue for me.

Missy Bloom has absolutely outdone herself with Intoxicating Pursuit. This book was everything I hoped it would be—and so much more. I dove in expecting a heartfelt romance with a splash of suspense, but what I got was an emotionally rich, slow-burning thrill ride that had me hooked from page one.

Sammy McCallum is a refreshingly real protagonist—flawed, funny, and fiercely protective of her daughter and her dreams. Watching her cross paths with her longtime musical crush, Gabe Walker, was pure joy. Their chemistry sizzles, but it’s the deeper connection they forge that makes this story so compelling. Gabe is more than just a rockstar heartthrob; he's grounded, generous, and full of surprises.

The North Carolina setting was vivid and cozy at first glance, yet Missy Bloom laced it with just enough mystery to keep me on edge. I 1000% thought I had the mystery figured out... and then BAM! That twist hit me like a freight train. I genuinely didn’t see it coming—and I love when a book pulls the rug out from under me like that.

Between Sammy’s personal struggles—balancing motherhood, running her business, and learning to put herself first—and the growing danger lurking in the background, the tension builds masterfully. By the time everything unraveled, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

If you’re looking for a romantic suspense novel with a heart, a twist you won’t see coming, and characters you’ll want to root for long after the last page, Intoxicating Pursuit is an absolute must-read.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved the premise of this book but unfortunately it just didn't work all that well for me.

I did enjoy the mystery aspect in regards to the stalker and the business. I thought it was interesting to have chapters in "The Others" POV in order to gain a little more insight into the people behind those mysteries.

What I feel made this difficult for me to really like came down to the writing style, which felt reminiscent of Wattpad stories, and the interactions between some of the characters. I had a hard time remembering that Tina and Sammy were supposed to be in their forties when they were fangirling on their way to the concert or even some of the dialogue between them when the beans were spilled to Tina about Sammy and Gabe. Even Gabe on occassion was slightly cringy for me with his overuse of "Boy" to start a sentence and the occassional awkward dialogue surrounding their spicy scenes.

Overall, I don't think this was bad for a debut novel, but it wasn't one hundred percent for me.

This is a fun story - equal parts steamy ballad, emotional anthem, and edgy thriller. Sammy is a refreshingly relatable heroine: a 40-something single mom juggling teen drama, business headaches, and a long-time crush on a ridiculously hot rockstar. Enter Gabe Walker, who’s not just eye candy—he’s grounded, charming, and hiding more than a few secrets of his own.

What starts as a flirtation quickly turns into something deeper (and hotter), all while a creeping sense of danger simmers in the background. The romantic chemistry is chef's kiss, but it’s the suspense element that gives this story its addictive edge. Just when you think it’s all sexy glances and mountain getaways, things take a sharp, chilling turn.

If you enjoy romance with mature characters, real-life complications, and a dash of danger, Intoxicating Pursuit delivers a satisfying blend of heat, heart, and suspense.

I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This book has it all-romance, danger, intrigue, tension-but where it really shines is character.

The pages are filled with carefully constructed, nuanced characters. Sammy is so wonderfully real. She has highs and lows, successes and flaws, but all of that makes her so relatable. I loved her because she wasn't perfect. I could see myself in so many of her struggles. Same with Gabe. He might be a rockstar, but he comes across as someone I'd like to sit and have a beer with. In a book that is a whirlwind of tension (in the best possible way), these two characters ground the action. I was on the edge of my seat reading because I needed to know what would happen to them.

If you're looking for a book that perfectly balances a romance you can't help but root for with suspense that leaves you guessing until the very end, this is the story for you.

In “Intoxicating Pursuit,” debut author Missy Bloom takes her readers on a whirlwind ride through a story that is equal parts romance, mystery, and thriller, as we follow Samantha ‘Sammy’ McCallum’s struggle to balance a passionate affair with a rock star with the demands of raising her teenage daughter and growing her own craft brewery business. Set against the lushly-rendered backdrops of the Wissahickon Valley in suburban Philadelphia, North Carolina’s sun-dappled vineyards, and star-filled nights in the forests of Oregon, Sammy’s journey to find love and new meaning in her life forces her to confront both her own inner demons and physical dangers that are all too real. Full of moments of nail-biting tension and sweet release, this is a book that will leave you satisfied while still wanting more.

Missy Bloom’s debut novel, Intoxicating Pursuit, is a perfect mix of romance and suspense. Sammy is a single mom who ends up getting together with musical megastar Gabe. I quickly connected with all the characters, even Sammy’s teenage daughter Meghan. Sometimes the troubled teens in novels are so obnoxious that I end up not caring. Bloom kept a balance between Meghan’s difficulties and her softer moments. She wasn't rude just for the sake of being rude. Along with the challenge of having a teen daughter and the complications of a hot relationship with Gabe, her craft brewery business is losing money. Who can she trust? Apparently no one because someone doesn’t like her bedding Gabe and begins stalking her. The plot is perfectly paced with great twists and surprises. Intoxicating Pursuit is a great roller coaster of a read. I look forward to more from Missy Bloom.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC! This was a good debut! I definitely think that there was a lot of good about this book, but there was also some improvements that could be made. The mystery aspect was really well done, and I didn’t guess the ending immediately, as I often do. My biggest issue was the language choice and the excess of descriptions of the scenery/setting. It felt a bit like some aspects were glossed over, and then we got a full description of a house.

Overall, taking into account that this was a debut, I enjoyed it and will read another book from this author.

When I first started this book, I was immediately hooked. I loved the romance between a celebrity and a strong, independent single mom who didn't need a man's support. It had the perfect amount of spice and those "feet-kicking" moments that make you squeal in excitement.
That said, there were a few chapters where I felt a bit lost-some parts seemed unnecessary or hard to follow, especially when it wasn't clear who was being talked about. Still, I really enjoyed the mystery woven throughout the story and the way it kept me guessing.
Overall, I liked it and would definitely recommend it to fans of celebrity romance with a twist of suspense.

Sammy owns a brewery. Gabe is a well-known rock star. Their paths cross, sparks fly, and soon they’re navigating a whirlwind of romance, secrets, and a mounting sense of danger.

This book aims to be both a romance and a suspenseful, stalker-style thriller — but the two genres don’t quite balance. The tone often veers into melodrama, and the plot sometimes reads like a soap opera that’s lost its footing.

One of the more confusing elements was the structure. Chapters were often labeled “The Others” when shifting to perspectives outside of Sammy and Gabe, but this vague heading grouped all side characters together in a way that muddied the narrative. Important characters were introduced quickly and without much context, and the eventual villain felt more like a twist created through omission than a reveal earned by story development.

That said, I did appreciate a few things: the main characters are in their 40s, they have older children, and the story explores middle-aged anxieties, trust issues, and fame. The celebrity romance angle had promise. But ultimately, the further I read, the more the book seemed to struggle with its identity. The melodrama overshadowed the emotional resonance, and the genre mix never fully came together for me.

This was a interesting book. Sammy is a brewer that has a super fun meet cute with her favorite musician, Gabe. They hit it off and he invites her to NC to visit his new farm-to-table restaurant. She's also trying to find out why her breweries are failing and raising her daughter. She has issues being away from her family and doesn't drive much, she rides bikes a lot. This is part romance and part mystery. There are chapters entitled "The Others" which are the mystery part - but like who's viewpoint was it? It was a bit confusing.

Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

This book is very engaging and fast-paced. I was fully engrossed from start to finish. I appreciated the twists and turns, and fully did not see the end coming. However, it is more mystery and suspense that takes place after a meet-cute than it is a romance. As a mystery, it is well done, and it will keep you guessing till the very end. As a romance, I feel that the book was okay. The romance and the relationship didn't feel fully developed because there was so much else going on. If you want a quick and sexy mystery, I recommend it.

I received and ARC copy of this book from NetGalley!

It was an enjoyable read, but I didn't find myself loving it. I appreciated the writing style and the transitions between Sammy and 'The Others,' as well as the suspense it created. However, the story didn't fully engage me. Additionally, the relationship between Sammy and Gabe felt a bit rushed. While I did enjoy the book and like the way it was written, it hasn't become a new favorite for me.

I loved that the MCs were older and both single parents. All their issues were so realistic and they dealt with them so maturely it was fun to read.
The plot was great and well written and the end was exciting!!
I also enjoyed the pov of other characters, It added to the story in my opinion.

First thing, the language and description of the places were written beautifully. There’s a sense of sophistication.

Who doesn’t want to be in a relationship with their celebrity crush?! I love the way Sammy and Gabe met. She’s different than most, didn’t need anything from him except companionship. We love an independent FMC. I was so intrigued by the mystery aspect, who was blackmailing, stalking and sabotaging the brewery. I thoroughly enjoyed reading!!
