I came for the contract. I stayed for a man who makes me disregard every rule I’ve ever known.Lucas Hopkins I’ve given everything to hockey — skipped college, left friends behind, all for a shot at the pros and a spot next to my brother. The contract is within reach. No distractions. Then the PR team announces a shirtless calendar shoot to drum up buzz. I expect awkward poses and fake smiles. Instead, I find him. Ezra Turner, all broody eyes and soft lips, moves behind the camera like poetry. His rare smile hits me harder than any check on the ice. I’ve never been attracted to guys. That’s my brother’s story, not mine. But maybe this isn’t about labels. Maybe it’s about him. About us.
Ezra Turner I’ve learned to keep my heart locked tight. A crumbling relationship and years of scars have taught me that lesson well. Then Lucas Hopkins barrels into my life — all cocky charm and surprising tenderness. He wants to protect me, but it’s his own heart on the line. I see it every time he looks at me. He’s fighting something raw and real. And I don’t know if I’m brave enough to fall for someone who’s still questioning. But maybe this kind of love is worth the shot. Snapping the Ice is a book in the multi-author, Games We Play hockey series (season two) and has ties to the Desert Ice Hockey series. It features a bi-sexual awakening, found hockey family, some forced proximity and a broken man clawing his way to happiness.

Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back. When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey). She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.
I was so excited to be offered an advanced copy of Snapping the Ice by Christie Gordon. I’m an avid reader of her books and hockey romances are my jam so this was perfect, not to mention I’ve been devouring the earlier books in the Games We Play Season 2 series so this was right up my alley.
In this story, rookie professional hockey player (in an AHL equivalent league) Lucas attends a photo shoot for a hockey team calendar and is immediately drawn to photographer Ezra. From the back, he initially thinks Ezra is a woman, but even after he realizes his error Lucas is still attracted to him. Lucas is not homophobic; in fact his brother Mason (who we’ve met in Christie’s prior Desert Ice hockey series) is married to another man and they both player in the NHL together. However Lucas has never been interested in a man in this way and he’s really confused about what is going on. In the meantime, Ezra’s relationship is severely on the rocks. His boyfriend is Trouble with a capital T and Ezra is trying to figure out how to end things. Lucas catches wind of what is going on and is concerned enough to get involved as a friend. Ezra temporarily moves in with Lucas and things progress from there. With the help of Lucas, a spunky neighborly woman, and Lucas’ family (both his bio fam and his found family), eventually the men get their happily ever after.
As always I enjoy that Christie’s books are narrated in the first person and are super descriptive. It’s fun to get throwbacks to characters from prior series (though the book reads just fine as a standalone). And the men are always a lovely combination of sweet and steamy. My one issue with this book was that Lucas’ instant attraction and need to protect and care for Ezra seemed a little out there. I suppose it could happen but his transition from straight playboy to ready to be out and monogamous queer man seemed a little fast. Nonetheless I will continue to enjoy this series as well as Christie Gordon’s entire library of MM romances.
I have loved the books in this series so far but this one definitely has hit me harder.
DV is such a huge problem in the world and I’m glad Christie shed some light on this horrible issue that plagues our society.
Ezra couldn’t see the signs of how toxic his ex was because he didn’t know what it was like to be loved the right way. To be loved by someone who would put his happiness first and would never make him feel small in any way.
Lucas was such an angel to Ezra. He protected him even before he developed feelings for him. Ezra simply got under his skin and wouldn’t let go, to the point that it made him question his sexuality.
He believed all of his life that he was straight but it took meeting Ezra to realize that he was his person, gender be damned. He was willing to do anything to keep him safe and happy.
Ezra had been through so much pain and rejection and was due for some love and happiness. I’m not sure I’d would have been so forgiving but I understand he wanted to heal and the first step was to forgive.
Lucas brought out the real Ezra. The one whose face lit up the world with a smile and the one who made Lucas give him the world.
I need to read Mason’s book because I need to know about this amazing, hotheaded brother who would do anything for his little brother. Love their relationship and how Mason is always the first person(technically second to Jett😆) he calls when he needs advice.
I can’t get enough of Christie’s books! They’re always so well written and leave you with warm fuzzy feelings of happiness 🥰
The moment Lucas walked into the studio and started describing this “woman” from the back, I knew it was going to be a doozy of an attraction. Although he was unsure of what was happening to him, there was instant chemistry and a desire to make Ezra smile. I am glad that Lucas was there to witness the way Tate treated Ezra, and ultimately helping to keep him safe. Tate was like a gnat in my ear the entire book, so I was quite happy with how things eventually turned out. Also, Stella is a QUEEN! The healing and reconciliation Ezra got was beautiful to read. It was great to see some of our favorite couples again and have the Hopkins brothers doing great things. The initial mention of Ezra wanting to dance in the rain, but knowing how rare it is stuck in my mind to hopefully come up again. I’m so glad they finally got to dance in the rain! I received and advanced copy from the author and this is my honest review.
sweet, low-angst M/M hockey romance part of the 'Games We Play' series 2, but can be enjoyed as a standalone read.
The story centres on Lucas Hopkins, a focused hockey player who wants to turn professional, and Ezra Turner, a photographer healing from an abusive past. When a calendar shoot brings them together, Lucas, who has never been attracted to men before, finds himself undeniably drawn to Ezra's vulnerability and strength. The book covers Lucas's bisexual awakening as he falls for Ezra, as his protective instincts kick in to help Ezra escape a toxic relationship.
The relationship between Lucas and Ezra is very sweet and focuses on the emotional connection between the two. Both have obstacles to overcome. Lucas accepting that he is attracted to men, and Elias who was abandoned by his parents for being gay. He also questions his worth after succumbing to his toxic ex. I loved the found family, aspect of the story. Lucas' brother, Mason, and many of the hockey players from Christie's previous books make an appearance and all are involved in helping Lucas and Ezra. It's such a lovely romance, Lucas is so caring and protective of Ezra. The ending is perfect.
This is book six in season two’s multi author series, Games We Play, and features Lucas, Mason’s (from Ice Rivals, book three in her Desert Ice Hockey series) little brother. (I love how they’re all interconnected!!)
Lucas was playing hockey in the PHL—the equivalent of the minors—for the Phoenix Firebirds, hoping to hone his skills and move up to the NAPH, or the pros. A day spent having his picture taken for a charity calendar was all that was on his mind when he initially mistook the photographer with long flowing hair and gorgeous body for a woman from behind. From that moment on, he was certain his senses had gone haywire as he had NEVER been attracted to a guy before…much less not being able to get one off his mind. Unfortunately, Ezra already had a boyfriend, one Lucas was certain was abusive to him. There was no way he was gonna let that happen, not on his watch!
Ezra was fed up with the way his boyfriend treated him but he knew things would get crazy and he didn’t have the time to deal with it right now. He was just too busy with his photography business, he’d leave it alone for now and deal with it later. That was, until he slapped him. Now he’s making all kinds of terrifying threats and has Ezra afraid to go anywhere. Cue the handsome knight, Lucas—he moves Ezra post haste into the apartment he’s sharing with his best friend and, once there, finds himself falling even deeper for the guy with sad eyes and an even sadder story concerning being kicked out by his family.
This is an awesome story! I swear, I was right there with our MCs, peering around corners, watching their back, expecting just any minute for Ezra’s jerk of an ex-boyfriend to show his ugly mug and ruin everything but our guys were stronger than that. Best part was, there was no third act breakup and no drama between them, just a sweet, steamy romance with an adorable epilogue and tons of cameos from previous characters and series (Axel and all of the guys from Knot Me even made an appearance!!) Like I said, awesome read!! 4.5 stars
I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is part of the multi-author The Games We Play Season 2 series. Each book is a standalone read and features a different couple. This is the story of Lucas Hopkins and Ezra Turner. Hockey is Lucas's whole life. He is playing in the PHL for the Phoenix Firebirds. He using every opportunity to learn and improve his game. He is so close to being moved up to the pros that he can taste it. He is 100% focused on joining his older brother in the pros one day. Ezra is a photographer who has had a rocky home life. He is alone and working to build his business. He is contracted to take shirtless photos of the Phoenix Firebirds for a calendar. They want to get the town jazzed up about the team. When the two of the first meet, Lucas believes Ezra is a woman from the back. He is attracted and then shocked when Ezra turns around and is a man. Surprisingly, the attraction he feels didn't disappear when he learned Ezra is a man. While at the shoot, he gets clues that Ezra is trapped in an abusive relationship. Friendly and outgoing, Lucas visits him again at his studio to check up on him and see if he is really okay. All of Lucas's protective instincts are a high alert. This is their story. I liked that suddenly Ezra is slowly finding people that are there to support and help him vice tear him down. He is kind of unsure what to do with that kind of treatment. And with an ex who makes his displeasure known at Ezra trying to end their relationship, Ezra's safety is in question. Lucas is a warm and kind person who isn't worried about labels and what other's think. The two of them are perfect for each other. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. You will also enjoy the way that Lucas's real and found family rally round to help support Ezra and him. A great addition to this series.
I knew going into this story that I'd be getting a sibling from the Desert Hockey universe, but what I didn't know was how much I would be graced with cameo after cameo from several previous MCs. It's so much fun when several different series' converge, and getting the chance to revisit past characters is always incredible fun.
I hated what Ezra's life had been before he met Lucas, but I was glad that Lucas stepped in so immediately when he saw something wasn't right. Their instant connection may have pushed forward their romantic relationship, but Lucas would have stepped in to help even without that connection. They'd have been great friends, either way. I also absolutely loved how much instant support that Ezra had once he was within Lucas' sphere. His community of friends expanded immediately in every way. The friendship Ezra also developed with his neighbor, Stella, was beautiful and rewarding for each of the MCs. She was the perfect protective watchdog, but also a fantastic mother figure for Ezra at a time he very much needed it.
I spent much of the last chapter in tears and it took me a couple tries per page to get through. In a happy way, for sure, but it was very emotional to be sure.
I cannot express how much I love the characters and their romances we get to experience from Christie Gordon. While there are a couple books here or there that I've missed, I've read so much from this Arizona crew that I feel like I know them in some way. The love stories created within that universe are so inviting and entertaining. I have always loved book series, and even though Lucas' particular story is part of a different series outside Christie's desert universe, he's very much still an important piece to include.
Snapping the Ice was an incredible story of instant connection and love. Though there is a background of trauma and abuse, the love that shines through the two main characters was incredible and beautiful. They deserved all the happiness for everything they went through to be together, and their story was so sweet to experience.
I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
Lucas’s passion has always been hockey. He comes from a legacy of them, including his older brother. And one day he hopes he can go to the next level and play in the pros. He knows the day is coming soon but until then, he’ll continue to work hard. No distractions that will take him away from his game. That is, until his eyes catch Ezra. First off, Lucas never thought he would have feelings for a man. No one has turned his head the way Ezra has leading him to question a lot about himself. And when he witnesses the man Ezra is currently seeing as an abusive boyfriend, he can’t help but step in to make sure Ezra is alright. Ezra is at the end of a very terrible relationship. When his boyfriend crosses a line, he knows it’s time to end it. Especially when Lucas surprises him by actually sticking up for him and protecting him. No one has done that for him before. And the fact that at this point, Lucas is basically a stranger, it says a lot. With a dose of courage, he gets away from his ex. But it isn’t without complications. Especially when his ex refuses to leave him alone. Lucas becomes a friend and a protector. Then when they start to really learn about one another and decide to explore this physical attraction between them. It becomes so much more than either could have ever imagined. A lot of obstacles may stand in their way, but they’ll face them together. I really enjoyed Lucas and Ezra’s story! Ezra deserved so much more than he was getting in life and he found someone who actually respected who he was and cared and just wanted him to be happy rather than controlling him. Lucas could not have been a more perfect fit for Ezra. And I loved that Lucas let himself explore this new side to him. He knew Ezra was special and rather than run from it, he dove right in. A great story in this series!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
⚠️TRIGGER WARNINGS: Description of domestic violence⚠️
I loved this book and I loved everything in it.
I was intrigued by the side story (I won't spoiler, you have to read the book!!), but the love story between the main characters was delicate, sweet, and romantic. I absolutely loved Lucas, how protective he is from the start to Ezra, the found family and Lucas's family, his brothers, the hockey team, Ezra's neighbor...
This book was really amazing. If you love sports romances with hockey, this is the story for you; there are detailed descriptions of the games. If you love found families, this book is for you. If you love reading romantic scenes with spicy details, this book is for you.
Highly recommended.
P.S.: One character, Philippe, intrigued me. I wonder if I'll ever read his story. 👀

VOTO: 5 ⭐

⚠️TRIGGER WARNINGS: Descrizione scene di violenza domestica. Description of domestic violence⚠️
Consigliato assolutamente. 💕
Ps: mi ha intrigato un personaggio, Philippe. Chissà se vedrò mai la sua storia 👀
Christie Gordon's SNAPPING THE ICE is part of Season 2 of the multi-author series "The Games We Play." It’s a great addition to her hockey romance universe. I loved the cameos from the earlier Desert Hockey series, but you can read this one stand-alone as Christie does a great job of integrating characters from her previous books without getting lost if you haven't read them yet.
MC Lucas is Mason's younger brother. Mason and his b/f Jett play for the big-league hockey team in Phoenix. Lucas plays for the minor-league team in the same city and is hoping to advance his career and play with his brother in the bigs. Lucas's team gets chosen to be individually featured in a charity calendar. When it's Lucas's turn to get photographed, he heads to the studio of hunky gay photographer Ezra. Lucas actually thinks Ezra is a woman when he first spots Ezra from behind. But something clicks and by the end of the photo shoot he's smitten by Ezra and starts to doubt his hetero status.
Sparks fly, especially when Ezra's current b/f Tate enters the picture. Turns out Tate's got issues and Ezra needs to cut the cord. Lucas is happy to oblige and off we go on a wild roller coaster ride. The plot twists and turns but ultimately Lucas comes to grips with his bisexuality and eventually these guys get their HEA. But not before Lucas finally gets called-up to the big leagues. And not before KnotMe (the queer rock band from Christie's earlier RockU series) need some publicity photos. And not before Ezra's homophobic parents get taken to a P-flag meeting by Ezra's sister and realize just how wrong the've been.
This is a great 320-page read that keeps you turning the pages. Get your hands on it ASAP. I read it in two sittings and I bet you will also. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
All Lucas wants to do is play hockey, playing for a minor league team, he wants to be as a good as his brother. Ezra is the photographer, the team hires to take photos for team calendar and now Lucas has other than hockey on his mind. I really enjoyed this book, the moment Lucas clapped his eyes on Ezra, I knew that I was going to get an amazing read. There was instant attraction between Lucas and Ezra but whilst Ezra had a toxic boyfriend they did not move forward on their attraction. Having Lucas see how Ezra was treated by Tate, ignited Lucas' need to save Ezra and give Ezra the support he had never had before. When it came to Lucas sorting out his feelings for Ezra, there was only one person he could ask, his big brother. Now lets talk about his big brother, Mason Hopkins, a founder member of the Squad. I loved the Desert Ice Hockey series, it felt like I was at a family reunion, catching up with old friends and seeing what they were up to. I laughed at some of Mason's comments and as usual Jett was there to rein him in. Whilst I was reading, I was thinking how opposite to Mason Lucas was and that he was perfect for Ezra. Ezra stole my heart and I wanted to give him the biggest mom hug, the longer he was with Lucas the more support he had. Stella was a wonderful secondary character and I would have loved her as a neighbour and there was even cameo appearances from others . As I said there is ties to the Desert Ice Hockey series but this story can be read as a standalone, but why not introduce yourself to the Squad. It was great to be introduced to Lucas who before this story was a voice on the end of the phone
Wow what a brilliant read I could not put this book down. I instantly liked Ezra and Lucas. My heart really went out for Ezra having to put up with such a vile boyfriend and if Ezra is honest with himself was scared to make him angry. Lucas had never felt anything but straight he was a hockey player he likes spending times with the hockey bunnies And life was good for Lucas. He went to a photo shoot as they were doing charity calendar and this is how he met Ezra, because Ezra is the photographer. And instantly Lucas found himself attracted to Ezra from the back. He thought that it was a woman and is quickly shocked to find that it’s a man But he had never felt that way himself but this attraction to Ezra was very strong and after seeing him with his douche of a boyfriend Lucas wanted to help him out. Firstly, they’re just friends talking about getting him away from this boyfriend but it isn’t long before both of these guys are having feelings for each other. This is a brilliant read. I loved the way that Lucas just accepted what he was feeling. he didn’t worry about the hockey team accepting him he didn’t worry about pretending to be straight. He had a concern with his parents . And sadly, Ezra‘s family had thrown him out as soon as he finished high school because he was gay. Ezra had got his own business but no friends but now with Lucas he had a new family The passion between these two is electric but what got me was the connect they had. It was so strong. They are just totally adorable as a couple. It really was a brilliant read. I got ARC from the author and this is me leaving my honest review .
"How would it feel to have someone defend me? To feel safe?"
So excited to finally have little Hopkins book. He's all grown up now, 22 years old. That was actually the hardest part for me. I kept picturing him as Mason's kid brother. It was only seeing him through Erza's eyes that helped me believe he really is very much a grown man now. And apparently a big one, too!
I loved watching Lucas accept the changes to his life, especially since I also believe sexuality is fluid. Of course, having an out and proud big brother and all his friends there for him definitely made it easier.
I really liked Ezra. He was such a gentle, kind man who let himself get involved with the wrong person and then found it almost impossible to free himself. I also hated that he was estranged from his family. He really was so lonely when they met, and he deserved to finally have someone there for him in all ways.
The story is very easy to read, and despite the trigger warning at the beginning, there's not much angst or drama. I do feel the resolution of the main conflict was a bit anticlimactic, but at least it was complete.
There is a ton of crossover from the Desert Ice Hockey series. It could have easily been book seven. There's even a fun appearance by our favorite punk-pop band. While there's no spoilers for Rock U, there are a ton for Desert Ice Hockey, so be aware if you haven't read the books in that series. This book does stand alone, though, so it isn't necessary to read anything before.
The latest book in the multi-author Games We Play hockey series (season two) has ties to the Desert Ice Hockey series and takes readers on an emotional journey, featuring compelling characters and an engaging storyline. This story centers around Ezra, an up-and-coming photographer grappling with family issues and the burden of an abusive relationship, and Lucas, a hockey player on a journey of self-discovery as he embraces his bisexuality.
The story addresses the profound pain inflicted by family dynamics and romantic entanglements. Ezra's struggle with his family's rejection and Lucas's battle with societal norms illustrate how external pressures can influence one's identity and emotional well-being. The relationship between these characters' trials not only highlights their individual challenges but also reflects the broader theme of acceptance in the face of adversity.
Despite the heavy topics addressed, the book skillfully incorporates light-hearted humor, providing moments of relief amidst the tension. Readers will enjoy the dynamic between Ezra and Lucas, whose growing relationship provides mutual healing. Their bond, enriched by shared experiences, delivers the heartfelt ‘happy-ever-after’ that fans of the Desert Ice Hockey series have come to cherish.
With a masterful blend of emotional depth and sports culture, this book presents story arcs that resonate with many. Stepping into the lives of Ezra and Lucas promises a compelling and rewarding experience.
Christie Gordon delivers another winning story in her hockey romance lineup, seamlessly weaving characters from her Desert Hockey and Knot Me series into a tale that’s equal parts tender, thrilling, and full of found family warmth. Lucas, the younger brother of Mason, steps into the spotlight with determination and heart. His journey to join Mason and Jett’s team is filled with grit and growth, but it’s his unexpected connection with Ezra—a talented photographer working on a charity calendar—that truly steals the show. Their chemistry is instant, but never rushed, and watching Ezra rediscover joy through Lucas is genuinely touching. The tension escalates when Ezra’s toxic ex, Tate, spirals into dangerous territory. Gordon handles this subplot with sensitivity and suspense, allowing Lucas to shine as a protective and caring partner. Ezra’s move into Lucas and Evan’s shared space adds layers of intimacy and camaraderie, reinforcing the theme of chosen family that fans of the series will adore. Though their romance develops quickly, it never feels forced. The emotional depth and mutual respect between Lucas and Ezra make their love story believable and satisfying. Their happily-ever-after is well-earned and leaves readers with a smile. If you love hockey, heartfelt romance, and stories that celebrate resilience and connection, this book is a must-read. Christie Gordon continues to skate circles around the genre with her signature blend of humor, heart, and
I can count on any of Christie’s books being a great read, and this one is no exception. I love the way her characters cross over from one series to another in the hockey realm, once you’ve read one or two, you’re always meeting up with or running into old friends along with making new ones. Her characters are realistic and relatable, situations are too, and there are emotional times as well as humor that weaves through the stories. I also liked the message of hope for Ezra and the relationship with his family through PFLAG, maybe it will help future readers in a similar situation.
The story of Ezra and Lucas was one that kept my interest, rooting for their relationship, and waiting for the retaliation from Tate. Was glad to see Tate get some comeuppance for his behaviors, Lucas achieve his dream and also realize and act on his attraction to a particular person, not a gender in general, and for Ezra to find the love and acceptance he deserved in Lucas and family. I found the last couple of chapters of the book to be very emotional, read them with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes, and a great feeling of satisfaction, a future well deserved for Lucas and Ezra going forward. Choosing any of Christie’s books is always good in my opinion, and I really liked the characters in this one. Hope future readers do too.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
Snapping the Ice by Christie Gordon is part of the multi author series The Games We Play. It’s an exciting addition to her hockey romance universe. I loved the cameos from the Desert Hockey (Mason and Jett are amazing with Lucas and Ezra) and the Rock U series.
Luca’s is Mason’s (Ice Rivals) younger brother and he’s such a nice guy… He’s focused on his hockey dreams and gets completely thrown when he meets Ezra, a sweet and talented photographer. Their connection is instant, but it truly feels real. I loved how Lucas handles his new feelings (he’s honest with himself and he avoids drama). Ezra’s dealing with a toxic ex, and watching Lucas set up to protect and support him made me love him even more. I found myself cheering for both men. Lucas for his courage and compassion, and Ezra for finding the strength to move forward.
There are some heavy emotions in this book, especially about Ezra’s ex, but there is also humour, warmth, and moments of love and trust. There’s tension, romance and cosy found-family moments. I smiled at the cute scenes and got angry at Tate’s awful behaviour. The side characters are the perfect addition to the story, and the cameos made it even more special. I couldn’t put it down.
I received an eARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
We dive into Christie Gordon's universe with this new book, where we encounter characters from her other series. It's a pleasure to reconnect with Mason and Jett, following the story of Hopkins' younger brother, Lucas, and his encounter with Ezra. Ezra and Lucas fall in love intensely and quickly, despite a complicated situation. One isn't even aware of his bisexuality at first, and the other is caught in a toxic relationship. Despite their fears and doubts, they open up to each other and trust each other enough to move forward in their relationship and overcome difficulties together. A beautiful romance with charming and endearing characters.

I absolutely enjoyed reading about Mason's younger brother Lucas Hopkins and how he found his perfect person in a sexy photographer called Ezra Turner doing a Hockey calendar…
Ezra is in an unstable relationship with an over jealous and possessive man who is slowly draining the life out of his soul but that all changes when he sets his eyes on the younger bulky gorgeous hockey player- Lucas Hopkins…
I loved their banter and flirting and how smoothly it was for Lucas to accept his attraction to a man after getting sound advice from Mason and Jett as before he just hooked up with puck bunnies…
Their dynamic was very sweet and spicy 🌶️ with a lot of support from Lucas’s hockey family and family and Ezra’s sister and maybe his estranged mother…
Expect lots of shenanigans from other book characters and lots of bi-awakening steam with these two beautiful souls and their found family of friends with a bit of an unstable stalker ex angst, homophobia depictions and unnecessary outing of a hockey player.
A beautiful epilogue that will have the tear ducts flowing so grab their story and enjoy!
I voluntarily received an ARC from the author for an honest non biased review.
This is another great hockey romance by Christie Gordon with appearances by characters from her Desert Hockey and Knot Me series that will make you laugh and smile at the found family moments they all share in this book!
Lucas is the younger brother of Mason, and loves hockey as much as his sibling does. With an opportunity to move up into the team Mason and Jett play for, Lucas does everything he can to play his best and learn from those around him.
When a chance meeting with Ezra occurs, Lucas discovers he feels an attraction to the photographer. While working on photos of the minor hockey team members for a charity calendar, Ezra finds himself smiling with Lucas and feeling happier than he has in a long time. When his overbearing boyfriend Tate shows up acting possessive and threatening, Ezra knows it’s time for him to finally break up with him.
Unfortunately, Tate becomes insane and stalks Ezra, which causes Lucas to step in and make sure nothing happens to him. Ezra moves in with Lucas and his teammate Evan until he can get a restraining order against Tate, and finds he genuinely cares about Lucas.
While their relationship develops somewhat quickly, their feelings for one another are real and they do fall in love and find their HEA.
This author writes characters that are realistic and relatable, and the reader is engaged from the very first page. Definitely worth the read!
This is part of The Games We Play season two, and I loved it. I am currently making my way through the others from it, but this was the first of the series because I was an ARC reader. You don’t need to read the other ones, but it’s fun to do.
Lucas and Ezra fight for what they love and will be there for each other when everything gets a little crazy. I loved the crossover with his brother, Mason and his husband, Jett, from the Desert Ice Hockey series book Ice Rivals. It was my favourite of the series, but I loved the whole series.
Ezra is building the life and career that he wants to show his parents were wrong. The abusive relationship he is trying to get out of is intense. It may have taken him some time to see and that he was willing to get help from someone he barely knew shows how strong he is.
Lucas is a sweet guy who doesn’t like to see anybody mistreated or hurt. The feeling to protect Ezra. At first, he was a little confused about his feelings for Ezra because he had never been attracted to a guy before. Once he figured out how he felt there, he was going to love Ezra with all his heart, and nothing was going to change that.
Ezra and Lucas may have had a bit of a complicated start to their relationship, but true love will overcome anything.
Snapping the Ice, the 2nd book in the Games we Play series was a great read! I loved both MC's. Lucas was the stronger of the 2, helping Ezra while solidifying their relationship. The storyline starts out with Lucas wanting to help Ezra, partly because he was attracted to him which confused him and partly because he’s a good person. Once Lucas stepped in (2 feet first), the attraction grew along with their friendship and then finally their romantic relationship. Lucas accepts his bisexual side readily. Not only does he help Ezra get rid of his abusive ex, but he also helps him reconnect with his family. Their relationship builds slowly and is solid by the end of the book. The small amount of angst that was built with the ex-boyfriend Tate is a comfortable amount of angst; it has a nice flow throughout the book and ends quickly and quietly in a way that eases the mind and doesn’t break the two MC’s up. Along the way we meet new friends like Stella and Ezra's sister, and we get to reconnect with old friends from the Desert Ice Hockey series (You should read if you havn't yet!). Overall, I really enjoyed these two characters and the story. I would recommend it to anyone!

Ezra and Lucas's first meeting would set a course neither saw coming. Lucas learned something about himself that changed his way of thinking, life and heart. Ezra was in need of true love. Caring, supportive and safe. These two boys are perfect for each other, and I absolutely loved their story! Throughout this story there is a lot to unpack, examine, fear, embrace and celebrate. The emotions I went through reading this were, to say the least wonderful and anger inducing. I REALLY wanted to grab a friend's iron skillet and smack someone about the head and shoulders. I was anxious for Ezra, silently pleading for him to do things he should have but didn't. I loved seeing the guys not only from the Desert Ice Hockey series but also the Rock U series. I always enjoy catching up with past characters that I have grown to love in previous books. Ezra and Lucas deal with a major issue, but thankfully it self- destructs. There are amazing side characters in here too like Lucas's brother Mason, hubby Jett and his parents. Ezra's sister and Ezra's neighbor are both rock stars.

The author presents a good picture of an obsessed ex-boyfriend. Tate is an ugly character who runs through the whole book, and I found that wondering when he would show up again kept me on the edge of my seat. The two main characters, Lucas and Ezra, were perfectly matched from the beginning. Having discovered I’m gay quite late in life, I found the description of Lucas’ process toward coming out quite realistic. It’s never clear to whom and how one should do it. Ezra, as Tate’s target, reacted in a realistic way to each of his actions that got more outrageous as the book progressed. Although sports, especially hockey, have been terribly machisto, the author presents a description of an ideal situation when it comes to LGBTQ+, and it’s great to see. The secondary characters are mainly ones we saw in Season One, they and the new ones are all very supporting to the MCs, notwithstanding Tate himself.
Snapping the Ice is a stunning, emotional, and beautifully written hockey romance that completely captured my heart. Lucas and Ezra’s story is tender, passionate, and full of vulnerability, the kind of love story that sneaks up on you and stays long after you’ve turned the last page.
Lucas, the determined hockey player chasing his dream, and Ezra, the guarded photographer learning to love again, are absolute perfection together. Their chemistry is electric, their connection feels real, and the slow burn of their romance is balanced perfectly with moments of heat and heart.
I adored the found family aspect with the teammates, Lucas’s brothers, and Ezra’s neighbour all add warmth and humour to the story. The mix of sports, self-discovery, and healing makes this book unforgettable.
If you love hockey romances, bi-awakening stories, and heartfelt characters who fight for love both on and off the ice, Snapping the Ice is a must-read.
I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review
Snapping the Ice by Christie Gordon about Lucas and Ezra finding each other during a photo shoot. Lucas, a hockey player, thought he was straight but when he meets Ezra he's confused and drawn to him. Ezra, a self made photographer after being kicked out at 18 for being gay. was working on a charity calendar where he meets Lucas and is intrigued by the sweet man. While Ezra was looking for a way out of an abusive relationship, Lucas gives him the support and strength to break up and leave him. Unfortunately his ex became a stalker. Lucas and his merry band of friends and his brother Mason, brother in law Jett and Stella, a lovely neighbor, Ezra was able to feel safe again. I enjoyed this story with Ezra & Lucas and was rooting for them while wanting to throat punch Ezra's ex. With cameos by friends from the Desert Ice Hockey series and Band Knot Me from Rock U series was just perfect way to incorporate the support and love from friends and family to keep one safe and know they are loved and truly respected.
Lucas and Ezra’s story begins with an unexpected spark at a team photo shoot—Lucas, a focused minor-league hockey player who’s always thought he was straight, and Ezra, a gentle photographer trying to escape an abusive boyfriend and coping with family estrangement. Lucas’s instinct to protect Ezra soon turns into something deeper, while Ezra slowly learns to trust that Lucas’s feelings are real.
Though the book touches on heavy topics, it stays warm and easy to read. Familiar faces from the Desert Ice Hockey series add a comforting sense of continuity, and the open communication between the main characters keeps the relationship grounded. Ezra’s newfound circle of support, especially his bond with neighbor Stella, adds a lovely found-family element.
Snapping the Ice is ultimately a sweet, but still spicy, hopeful story about instant connection and healing love. After everything Ezra’s endured, watching Lucas and Ezra find happiness together is genuinely heartwarming. As with all the Desert Ice Hockey books, I really enjoyed this one too.
“Tonight is about us. Tomorrow we’ll take on the world.” (Lucas, ch. 10)
It didn’t matter how we started, what mattered is what we built. (Ezra, ch. 21)
Lucas meets Ezra during his hockey team PR shoot. Lucas is immediately drawn to Ezra. Ezra had taken some extra photos for Lucas and Lucas seizes the opportunity. The more Lucas gets to know Ezra the more Lucas wants to get to know him and help him.
Lucas and his friends, and a friendly neighbor help Lucas when problems arise with his ex. Through help comes healing and a true love between the two.
We get to see lots of Lucas' brother Mason and husband Jett from the Desert Hockey series. They help Lucas claim his own sexuality he is discovering since he met Ezra. We also get to see the Knot You boys from RockU when they come for a photo shoot with Ezra and help him with a difficult situation.
A sweet, and spicy, story about healing yourself. Finding help from friends and found family in a time of need. And finding the love of your life through it all.
I recieved an ARC for this book and nothing was given or provided for the review.
This stand-alone novel is connected to the Desert Ice Hockey series through book 3. One of its MCs is Mason who is the older brother of Lucas, one of the MCs in this book. We get some other cameos from other characters from both that series and from the Rock U series. Anyhow, this book is about Lucas and Ezra. The plot focuses on Lucas having a bisexual awakening and his coming out process, on Ezra leaving his abusive ex-boyfriend who eventually goes off the rails and gets arrested (thankfully, neither Ezra nor Lucas are present for Tate's stand-off with the police, so they don't get hurt), and on Ezra seeing his mother for the first time since he was 18 when his parents threw him out for being gay. The insta-love is strong in this book for sure, as they are engaged at the end of the book, and I don't think they'd been dating more than maybe six months at that time, but I enjoyed the story a good deal. Weirdly, this book used terms for professional hockey that I'd never heard of, and the best I can figure out is that they're likely terms for minor league hockey, which is what this multi-author series is based on. But it was especially strange that the author kept referencing the NHL team, the Arizona Cardinals, that Mason and several of his friends were recruited to in the Desert Ice Hockey series as being a PAHL team instead. It was weird to have the author change a fact from a previous series because I don't think it would have been a big deal if part of the plot of the book was about Lucas being called up to the NHL after playing on a minor league. Anyway, all things considered, this was a decent sports romance even though Lucas wasn't actually playing hockey all that much during the book. Edited to add that now that I've read other books in the series and in season 1 of the series, I've learned that the terms used for the series are NAPH (major league), PHL (bigger minor league), and a few other terms for smaller minor leagues. So, I not only have no idea where the author got PAHL from because the other authors in series don't use that term but I'm even more convinced that the author shouldn't have tried to connect this book so closely to her existing hockey series, which was about players who got recruited to the NHL whose minor league affiliate is the AHL, then even lower down the chain is the ECHL. It's a totally different league system than the one used in this series, so the author was trying to shove a square peg in a round hole. I still loved the book anyway, but it doesn't fit as well as it could have had the author not connected it to her other hockey series.
If the cover alone does not draw you in, I promise yoiu the story of love between Lucas and Ezra will pull at and fill your heart. You will believe in love for sure. Lucas has given everything in his life to hockey when suddenly his world is rocked when he meets Ezra, the photographer doing shirtless photos of the team. I love how suddenly the cocky protective Lucas is questioning his sexuality and first time feeling for another guy. Ezra, out, is fearful of relationship due to overbearing and toxic ex boyfriend. That relationship, along with the fact that he is not sure about a relationship with someone questioning their sexuality, but his heart says otherwise. When he needs protecting Lucas is there and despite many obstacles they find a path to love. An extra treat his some characters from previous books give it a familiar feel. I loved this book. I did receive an ARC an leave this honest review.
