Review Buku: The Kudryavka Sequence (Hyouka Seri #3)

Book Review: The Kudryavka Sequence (Hyouka Series #3)
If you enjoy mystery stories that aren’t just about “Who’s did it?” but also make you think, The Kudryavka Sequence from the Hyouka series is a must-read! In this third book, Oreki Houtarou and his friends from the Classic Literature Club are once again faced with a school mystery that seem simple but are full of meaning.
If you’re new to it, Hyouka is a light novel series by Honobu Yonezawa that follows the adventures of a group of students in the Classic Literature Club. They often encounter everyday mysteries that may appear insignificant but turn out to be filled with intrigue and deeper meaning.
In the third book, The Kudryavka Sequence, Oreki Houtarou and his friends take on a school mystery during the Kanya Festival (Kamiyama High School’s cultural festival). The title refers to Kudryavka (aka Laika, the space dog) and conveys a profound message about sacrifice and effort that often goes unnoticed. Additionally, "The Kudryavka Sequence" itself serves as a clue to a sequence, much like in Agatha Christie's "The ABC Murders". Oreki, with his usual laid-back (or energy-conserving) style, continues to demonstrate his brilliance, while Chitanda, Satoshi, and Mayaka bring depth and emotion to their interactions.
What I really love about this book is how Honobu Yonezawa writes from the first-person perspective of each character, which adds a unique touch to the novel. It’s rare to find a story that lets you step into the minds of Oreki, Chitanda, Satoshi, and Mayaka in such a seamless way.
So, if you’re looking for a book that makes you think but still feels light and enjoyable, The Kudryavka Sequence is the perfect pick!
Fun fact! If you're curious about the anime, the story in this novel covers episodes 12-17 of the anime, which also delivers epic animation and adds a different perspective to the novel!
