Sophie Benson is out of options. With her bank account overdrawn, the lights out in her tiny apartment, and no family left to call, Sophie is desperate enough to say yes to the one offer she never expected: a romance contract with Mason Reynolds—Shadyvale Academy’s golden boy and heir to the powerful Falcon Enterprises. All she has to do is play the part. Smile, obey, and belong to him.
Until she crashes into Tyler Hale, the tattooed, piano-playing, code genius with rebellion in his blood, and a plan to burn it all down. He wants the fire she’s been forced to hide. And he has a plan. One that could take down everything the Peregrine Society has built…if Sophie’s willing to risk it all.
Now, Sophie faces an impossible choice: Stay caged in luxury, or help Tyler destroy the secret society that owns them both.
Cruel Intentions meets Fifty Shades of Grey in this dark, seductive romance set behind the ivy-covered walls of Shadyvale Academy. A secret society. A contest built on pleasure and power. A girl caught between the boy who owns the game and the one quietly planning to bring The Peregrine Society to its knees.
If you like morally gray men, dangerous love, and secrets that cost everything…
Juliette Fox writes dark, emotional romances where secrets simmer, tension burns slowly, and nothing is ever quite what it seems. She’s endlessly drawn to brooding love interests, dangerous power dynamics, and heroines who find their strength in the wreckage.
Based in the PNW, Juliette lives for rainy mornings, strong coffee, and writes romance for readers who want to ache a little.
I received an advanced copy of this book. I was not prepared for how intense it was right off the bat. 🤣 As someone else said, the smut started off strong and I wasn’t sure it was for me. Then, as the story began to unfold I couldn’t wait to get back to it each night. This book ended so different than I was expecting and I’m happy I didn’t give up. I’ll read more of Juliette’s books as they are released!
I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a wild ride. The typical layout of a romance seems to go Plot—>Turmoil—>Smut. The Academy flips this algorithm and starts off…let’s just say strong. If you are a pearl clutcher, DO NOT PASS GO DO NOT COLLECT $200. There are more plot holes than Swiss cheese and so many instances where the inconsistencies gave me whiplash, but if you don’t take it too seriously, the absurdity still makes it a very fun and interesting read. Somehow in the midst of it, you will find the inspirational story of a woman’s power and strength. The dedication of this book says “Sorry, this isn’t Shakespeare…but it is smut.” If you go into the book understanding the truth in that, it’s still absurd but you will enjoy it.
This book has the foundations to be incredible! I really enjoy the premise, structure, and world building. My biggest issues are the characters fall kind of flat and feel one-dimensional. There’s not a lot of building the “why” behind their actions and as a result the relationship building really doesn’t happen. There’s also some shifting in verb tense that took me out of the scene the author was trying to set. Some continuity errors also exist with things that happen in an order that don’t make sense with other things that happen.
Overall, the author tries to tell a very complex and intricate story about that happens over the course of several months to a year in less than 300 pages.
Sophie is faced with a choice during her lowest point, feeling like there’s nothing else she can do. Desperate and uncertain, she steps into a world she doesn’t fully understand, transforming into someone she’s not sure she even recognizes. The choices she makes lead her straight into Tyler’s path—and that’s when everything starts to shift. She sees beyond his carefully built façade, and what she finds is something raw, real, and unexpected.
Tyler has the classic bad boy edge, brooding, confident, and dangerous, but there’s so much more simmering beneath the surface. When he sets his sights on Sophie, it’s like all the jagged pieces in both of them start to fit. Their chemistry? Magnetic. Their connection? 🔥
Juliette. That orientation scene?! Wow. The chairs-LOL-I had to read that part twice just to be sure I caught it right. I would be super early to that class, that’s for sure.
Mason? Ego the size of a Black Amex credit limit and just as toxic. He’s the guy you love to hate, and you will as I do.
I loved watching the characters grow and evolve, each one becoming grittier and more layered as the pages turned. The steamy scenes were perfectly timed and added spice without overwhelming the storyline. The Society lurks in the background, pulling strings like it's a chess game. Money, power, privilege-it all controls those who feel like they have no other choice.
This book was a delicious treat for my secret society-loving heart. Thank you for letting me read your book baby!
If you’re ready to dive into a spicy secret society story, this is your sign to say yes. And don’t worry, this will end with a HEA.
I didn’t read the blurb and went into this fully blind. I didn’t expect that plot twist, I didn’t expect this to be so damn dark. I mean the name really says it all, Shadyvale Academy, home of the Peregrine Society, home to rich powerful men who do whatever they want. The blurb sugarcoats it a little, I won’t. Sophia is desperate, a college drop out with no family, and cant pay her bills due to massive debt, she’s basically the perfect prey. She gets the opportunity to go to the college, tuition paid by them in full, if she agrees to basically be her sponsor, Masons, sex slave, and obviously she does. But it’s worse than she thinks, she has to attend a special class for “bunnies” (what her sponsorship is called) to learn how to please her sponsor. And Mason is possessive and controlling, but no in the dark romance “I love you so much I’d kill anyone who touches you” kind of way, more like “you’re my object and a nothing else” kind of way. Then comes Trey, he’s a hot, genius but sort of broody artist, he hates the whole “bunny”/ sex slave thing and he falls for Sophia, seeing past her perfect facade. Starting a rebellion won’t be easy, especially with Sophia being on Masons beck and call but read to see how they manage it. The plot was exciting and the twists were quite surprising. The story shows true feminine power, and challenges misogynistic values. And although Sophia wasn’t my favourite character I really loved Claire and some of Sophia’s friends in the book and how genuine friendships can help you get through tough times. I enjoyed this and give it a 3,5/5.
3.5⭐️ Secret society, personal bunnies and an MMC who thinks he’s a Greek god? Yes, that’s the vibes of “The Academy: Say Yes”.
The story starts with a poor, unemployed FMC, who would basically sell her soul at this point to get her life back on track. And Mason, is right there ready to collect said soul, or is it her body instead?
The beginning felt like 50 shades, with contracts, secrets and intimate relationships. But when the scene changes and we get to the academy? Wow.. there is wild stuff happening in those secret classrooms. That’s for sure.
I was really intrigued by the story at first and although it felt really crazy what the FMC was going through, while being the MMC’s personal “bunny” - I got kinda lost as soon as the second MMC came into view. Unfortunately, I didn’t really see the character development and the connection between said characters.
Overall, it’s a very interesting setting and plot, but I feel like the characters lacked in depth and could have been explored further.
🖤Dark romance 💔Forbidden love 🎓University setting 🤫Secret society 🐰Personal “bunny”
Thank you so much Juliette Fox for providing the ARC of this book.
This book is intense. Imagine Eyes Wide Shut colliding with Skull and Bones — all velvet masks, candlelit decadence, and the ruthless grip of power hidden behind ivy-covered walls. The tension between privilege and rebellion is razor-sharp, and the writing drags you deep into the shadows of Shadyvale Academy’s secret society.
I’ll be honest: I struggled at times with the sex-slave dynamics, but that’s part of what makes the story so gripping. It doesn’t flinch from the ugliness of control, coercion, and the price of belonging. Instead, it forces you to wrestle with those questions right alongside Sophie, who’s caught between luxury and freedom, between the golden boy who owns her contract and the rebel genius who wants to burn the whole thing down.
The vibes? Dark, seductive, morally gray to the core. If Dangerous Liaisons and Fifty Shades had a secret child raised on whispered rituals and dangerous love, this would be it.
I couldn’t put it down. Welcome to The Academy. Say "yes".
ARC Review | The Academy: "Say Yes" by Juliette Fox
I’m so honored to have received an ARC of The Academy: "Say Yes"—what a wild, addictive ride! This book delivered jaw-dropping moments that had me audibly gasping and completely glued to the page.
💘 Forbidden Attraction 🖤 Secret Society 🌑 Dark Romance 🏛️ College Setting 🖤 Morally Grey, Irresistible MMCs
This is the kind of story where the tension sizzles from the start—you know it’s dangerous, you know it’s forbidden… but you’re rooting for it anyway. The chemistry was electric, and the build-up had me bracing for impact as secrets unraveled and the drama escalated.
It gave me Christian Grey meets Zodiac Academy (minus the magic, but all the spice and dark academia energy). And let’s just say… those bunnies do not play. 😈😈😈
If you’re into secret societies, off-limits attraction, and morally complex characters, you’re going to want to say yes to this book.
I ate this book up in a few hours. Long story short I'd found an image when scrolling FB & went to a book group to ask for recs. This book was recommended based on my image and GOOD GRIEF, I LOVED it. From the first page to the last, this has probably been one of the best books I've read in a while. I think it'll be hard to come back from this one. It's going to live rent-free in my head for a very, very long time. I felt awful for how badly Sophie was treated and how sad she truly was being in the position she was in. I fell in love with Tyler & Mason can go to hell 😂 I was sad to see that this is currently the only book written by this author but she did say that she has 9 WIP... I CAN'T WAIT to see what's next from her, because if it's anything like this book & I don't just mean the spice and plot, I mean the writing, the chemistry, I know I won't put that down either. Thank you Juliette for an amazing read ❤️
I love this book. I love how interesting the characters are. I love the idea behind the bunnies and the academy. I’m absolutely in love with Sophie and Tyler, as well as the side characters like Claire and Benny. Tyler and Sophie are def my favorites though, I love characters that burn their cages and revolt against what is expected of them. I think the story was well written and very entertaining. I’m excited to see what else this author writes. I’m so glad I was gifted a copy of the book and I highly recommend it.

This book got me from chapter 1. It was a quick read that starts right out of the gate. It's a college secret society vibe that has a lot of heat and spice. There are secrets and manipulation.
It starts with the FMC down on her luck and is offered a chance to change how she lives.
She makes a choice and it changes everything.
The details written for each character really helped me picture what they look like, what they wear, facial expressions. Everything.
It was really good. I can't wait to see what else Juliette Fox writes.
In this dark academia romance our FMC just had her credit card decline to buy lunch. She was desperate. When she meets one of the MMCs. He invites her to dinner with an offer. He will take care of her, including paying for her last year of college at a prestigious school, but she agrees to be his. And by his, he can have her whenever, wherever. Thinking she could do this for a year, she agrees and learns what exactly she has agreed to. Its only when she sees the other MMC in and out of the arrangement that her plan starts to crumble.
this book was not at all what i thought it was!! very good, very cute. i did have a few issues with it though. first, i think tyler fell in love WAY to fast. like in the book itself they hadn’t had that many interactions and then he was like oh btw i love you. didn’t add up to well but he was a yearner so it’s forgivable. another thing - sophie was pissing me off. the whole im gonna say the worst thing to you to “protect you” was annoying. regardless, this book was overall really good and i’m really happy they all came together at the end to take down the shitty men.

I was intrigued from the moment I saw another person post about this, but when I tell you when I found out what is done when you late to Ms. Averys class... My mouth dropped 🤣. I was not expecting that. Did this meet the vibes? Yes it did. It met them so well that I didn't want to put it down and read it in 24hrs. However, there were a couple parts where it seemed to jump from one place to the next that would throw me off. I will say that even with that I still enjoyed it very much.
👎🏻 I had to end up DNF this book, I had high hopes for it. Heard about it from one of the recs on a Facebook group but this fell extremely flat for me. Yes the smut is okay, but there was just to many inconsistencies for me to throughly enjoy the plot of it. Obviously I recommend you reading it for yourself to make your own opinion but it just wasn’t what I was thinking it would be. The writing could also use some work as well, so if you’re picking like myself just leep that in mind.
I thought this was a nice story of redemption, girlies stick together lovely message. spice was spicing for sure, some interesting things at that😭loved the MCs relationship they were so cute, i just knew from the beginning and i wasn’t expecting the way it went with who the love interest ends up being at first, but i was pleasantly surprised and hopped on board real quick😂this has a bit of slow pacing, but i ate it up pretty quickly, keeps you engaged. overall 4 stars for me
I thought I was in for some erotica with a dark academia background, but this was so much more than just this! There's smut, yes, but the main storyline takes you to a new place that I bet you won't see coming until it happens. Sophie's choice might be questionable for some readers so make sure to check the contents warning before going in.
If you’re the for a dirty book, then this is for you. Even in her dedication, the author warns you it smut. lol I had a great time reading this book.
You will follow Sophie story as she falls in to an elite world. She had no idea what she signed up for. This story is dark and twisty with just the right amount of smut. Definitely recommend reading this for. Quick fun read.
An entertaining debut that explores how twisted reality can become when love, power, and control fight for dominance! It is a story that will make you wonder, if you were down on your luck, how far would you go to keep the lights on? I was hooked from the first chapter, routing for Sophie to get the life that she deserved. I am and will always be team Tyler 🖤🖤🖤.
I am a fan of Cruel Intentions, and I totally got that vibe from this. Oh, and I love Tyler. He was the perfect character. Mason, I just wanted to slap, haha. I disliked him, and to me, that's good writing to despise a character so much. It feels real! Sophie girl, "Do it lady", that is all I am gonna say 😝
Juliette's book baby was enticing and a good read ❤️
*Arc review* This review is completely my own honest opinion on the book. Thank you to the author for letting me get to read it early.
This book was really good , it has just the right amount of spice that you could get from a new adult dark romance, the book also has great characters and character development and the plot was good. I enjoyed it very much.
This book was interesting lol The dynamic of Shadyvale threw me at first with the Eros class and I hate the women being used by men for their pleasure and needs no matter what part. So glad to see they got what was coming to them though 😈 I liked the story and the HEA at the end as well 🤗
I received this book as an ARC read so I had no idea what I was getting into!! I really enjoyed this book it wasn’t like anything I have read! It had the right amount of spice and man the plot!!! I was so mad at what was going on but the twists and turns made this book worth it!!

“Sorry, this isn’t Shakespeare…but it is smut.”
Okay so I’ll start by saying this book is not for you if you don’t love your stories intense and spicy from the very beginning. This throws you right in at the deep end. Luckily I love when this happens. I could have read this book in one go if general life didn’t get in the way. At her lowest point Sophie is asked to make a choice and the consequences of her decision lead into a world she is not prepared for. It is a fast paced plot and a short read but there is so much to it you are left wanting more. The detail in the writing really helps form a very clear image in your head. And wow is that an image sometimes 🤣🤣 A brilliant debut novel I can’t wait to read more from Juliette.
I apologize to this author for such a late review after reading an advanced copy. I was excited to read this book! It's definitely spicier than I read normally though I love spice. It is spicy from the beginning and I promise, it all matters, so stick with it 😉 The story though, OMG! I read this book faster than others just to see where it was headed and I was not disappointed at all. The writing is solid and well laid out. Juliette has great character development and you fall for them all right away. I would definitely read other books written by her.
