I had three simple goals: stop lying, get my life together, and maybe stop humiliating myself in public.
It’s February, and I'm failing across the board.
The job? Gone. The girlfriend? Also gone. My dignity? Probably still somewhere over Ohio, where I overshared my life story to a gorgeous stranger after one too many cocktails and a bout of turbulence.
Back home and out of options, I agree to cover for my sister at the ad agency while she's on maternity leave. It sounds like the perfect reset—until I meet my new boss.
Ashley Morgan.
She’s sharp. Unsmiling. And very familiar.
Because she’s the woman from the plane.
And while I can’t remember exactly what I said to her at 30,000 feet, I have a sinking feeling it was ... a lot.
Turns out this wild ride isn't over—it’s just getting started.
Liar Liar is a fun lesbian rom-com about unexpected second chances, enemies-to-something-like-lovers tension, and the messy, magical power of telling the truth—especially when running would be so much easier.
Olivia lives by the ocean with her partner and a crew of spirited pets who keep life interesting. She’s happiest near the beach or on a trail, loves wine nights with friends, and has a soft spot for truly terrible reality TV. She finds humor in almost everything, believes in the power of a good love story, and occasionally does nothing at all—with great enthusiasm.
Liar Liar is a book about two very likable people falling for each other in the sweetest way possible. Parker is trying to make her life better but bad things keep happening like job troubles and a cheating girlfriend. In the hopes that a detour might change her trajectory, Parker subs in for her sister, Rose, as an executive assistant while she’s out on maternity leave.
I liked everything about the book. Parker and Ashley, the boss, are both gorgeous and kind which is such a relief because I really needed something sexy and funny to read without any meanness. Every day is an adventure in the story because Parker means well but sometimes her fears of letting people down make her stumble in both word and deed which leads to laugh out loud scenes. Ashley, Rose, roommate Erin, and a host of pets just add to the fun. Of course, there’s a wicked ex involved but she gets hers.
Wonderfully humorous story with plenty of spice and chemistry. Solid writing too. Highly recommend.
Olivia Lucas will never let you down. Her books are hilarious, her plots are so natural and believable, and her characters so endearing. I wanted to hug Parker reassuringly, (carefully though, in case she overbalanced us into the garden.) and smooth the way for this couple. And the ending? Just plainly romantic and HEA with a deep, uplifting sigh. Plus…you’ll be laughing out loud.
I’m so pleasantly surprised with Liar, Liar. I tried a different Olivia Lucas and I wasn’t a fan, but this one really grew on me.
Parker is kind of a hot mess, but she’s really funny and most importantly, self deprecating. She’s surprisingly competent at her temporary job and she makes friends easily. Ashley is endlessly patient and sarcastic at the same time. The sentence structure is fast paced, filled with one liners, but there are also meaningful feelings. This read at a fast pace.
I had to suspend a ton of disbelief with the work situations. Mandatory sports and a client flying vying ad agencies to Tahiti at their cost to pitch for an account was absolutely over the top ridiculous, but it put Ashley and Parker out of their comfort zones. I am normally very skeptical and critical about work conditions that are unbelievable, but this one was just too fun for me to be unbelieving.
The smut is written kinda dreamily and less explicit than what I normally read. It was a nice change and big, smutty fun. I will definitely check out more of Lucas’ work and in the hands of the right narrator, this audio would be great. There’s a lovely cast of supporting characters, particularly the cats, dog, and Parker’s twin, Rose.
What a wonderful read. Definitely a 5 ⭐️ rating from me. Devoured the book in two days. Hilarious and very funny, I was laughing out loud a lot of the time during this story. I’ll reread it in the future and I hope there’ll be an audiobook soon. Great main and secondary characters. Loved them all. Even the pets had interesting “characters”. Highly recommended.
What a delightful read this was! It's so charming, filled with witty dialogue and an irresistible sweetness that had me grinning from ear to ear. I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it—definitely didn’t expect to love it as much as I did! Usually, I don’t go for funny romantic comedies, but "Liar, Liar" is a wonderful exception!
5/5 - sapphic, contemporary, boss-employee, fake dating, strong-dislike-to-love, mcs have cats, mc has dog. Great read that had me chuckling throughout! I loved Parker—she was fun, kinda chaotic, and had great chemistry with Ashley. Ashley was good, but I would’ve liked to see a little more of her softer side earlier on, but thats a minor nitpick. Good side characters, evil exes, nice spice, and fun setting (island retreat for a good chunk). I’ve only read one other book by Olivia Lucas before this one and also gave that a 5, so I’m excited to catch up on her other works soon.
Loved this book, it had made me laughed out loud a couple of times, enemies to lovers, cute and fluffy, some spice. Parker is a mess and Ashley is too serious. There’s some fake dating involved, what could happen? Can’t wait to read more book from this author
This was really fun and cute and made me laugh a lot. Lucas is very witty and it’s the first of her books I’ve read, but won’t be the last.
Really my only complaints are I wish we would have had more POV chapters from Ashley and that the book was a bit longer. The sex scenes are beautiful but I would have liked a little more spice-I like mine open door but I know that’s not for everyone.
A very funny, touching, spicy romcom with a refreshing style. I loved the writing, and the spice was written in a way I found unique and original. Overall the writing was concise, tight, and evocative. very well done.
This book was kinda cute, funny and completely implausible.
Parker is interesting and amusing as a character... over the top with the lies which I guess is the point. Ashley, on the other hand... I dunno, I didn't see the chemistry. She just kinda felt like a jerk. The attraction didn't make sense.
Beyond that, multiple things kept completely breaking my immersion:
- A company making any sport team mandatory is just.. not a thing? And even if it were, would you want to work at said company? Plus.. soccer only fields 11 players per team and they have more than twenty people at this company. How can it possibly be mandatory for everyone? Are we just assuming that no one has a disability that might prevent them from playing?
- The weird reveal with the ex's. I get that this is fiction, but that felt so forced that I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
- The mandatory, strange (and dangerous) physical activities they are required to do also seemed like a complete legal liability that would never happen. Who the fuck hires an agent based on how well they hoola-hoop?
It was all just very strange. Add in the fact that everyone in this book seems like a complete butthole except for Parker (including Parker's own sister who has the audacity to be mad at Parker for her shenanigans while setting her up multiple times for misery)... I just found myself not liking any of them. I mostly kept reading for the quips.
Also, as a side note that really rankled me:
Promoting (or even mentioning in a somewhat positive light) chik-fil-a in a queer book in the year of our lord 2025? Really? Are we unaware of the amount of money they spend trying to eradicate queer people? Come the hell on...
I enjoyed this book, a nice easy read. Characters you are routing for a happy ending. The build up was well told, and the climax was well done, I was surprised by the very end of the book; how it ended, not the ending of the story… if that makes sense.
I very much enjoy this author for the humor they put in their books, it makes their books more relatable and I for one can not wait for the next story.
2.5 Liar, Liar is cute enough on the surface, but ultimately pretty forgettable. The plot leans heavily into the ridiculous and unrealistic, which made it hard to stay invested. Parker, while somewhat endearing, is such a chaotic mess that I struggled to find her attractive or root for her wholeheartedly. Ashley, on the other hand, is a bit of a non-entity—set up as an ice queen, but without the depth or development to make her compelling.
The romance lacks any real angst or emotional tension, and by the time I got to 77%—with them already basically happily together—I realized I didn’t care enough to finish.
Though I will say this - the writing is good. The comedy is on point, and I laughed out loud a couple of times. Maybe that was part of the problem - it could have benefited from being more serious and layered.
This book was such a pleasant surprise! It was witty, funny, and the dialogue was so smart and quick. The two main characters were likeable and fun - though the side characters could’ve been developed a tiny bit more. Where I do think it’s lacking the most though is that it’s a dual narrative pov but I craved more time with Ashley’s pov. I think far too much of the book is told through Parker and there are moments, especially within the third act of the book, where I really think we could have benefitted and deserved to see how Ashley was feeling about a lot of things. When they’re enjoying the last bit of their trip in Fiji, when they start to have their ‘relationship’ back in Chicago, we needed to see how Ashley was feeling throughout all of that but it was quite one sided. I think had we gotten that, then book would’ve definitely been a 4 start rating for me
Visiting her lover in New York, Parker catches her in the act. A drunker Parker flies home to Chicago, having a drunken conversation with her very pretty seatmate.
A few weeks later she reports for a temp secretary job... for miss seatmate, Ashley Morgan. Oops.
Ashley has her own problems, including a vindictive ex out to destroy her business. She doesn't need Parker being a problem, but she actually is OK as a assistant.
Then Parker and Ashley are the only two available to go to a work event in Fiji. And Parker's ex Yasmin shoes up, dating Ashley's ex, Quinn. Oh joy.
“ Liar Liar” is the first book I’ve read by Olivia Lucas but will absolutely NOT be the last. Hardest decision is where to next… Love to Hate You, Blurred Lines or Work in Progress, to name but a few, and I think I’m going to go with the latter as the title sounds just a little like me! Well worthy of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the mostly believable story line, great main characters, as well as the vast and varied supporting cast, but especially for the laugh out loud moments which will have me coming back for more… with the turn of almost every page. Perfect pick-me-up if you’re feeling a little flat. Thanks Olivia, you nailed it!
This is the most witty and engaging story I've read in a long time. It's funny and genuine. Last night I was laughing out loud (i live alone now and the dog was even amused) and crying at the commentary. I feel like I've been Parker and finally been enough to jump off the cliff that is loving commitment. Never looked back and regret only that my stunning partner is no longer here to join me. Read this book. The positivity is stunning. And welcome. Thank you, Olivia.
Okay so the cover is actually the most ugly thing I’ve seen in a while but don’t let that turn you off reading the book. It almost turned me off but yolo, I had the time and I needed a new book and the description is cute. I am so glad I read this book, Parker genuinely can’t stop lying to save her life but it works. And it definitely works on Ashley, also side note would love an Ashley myself lol. They are both so cute together and I loved all the secondary characters, and really enjoyed that there was no redemption arc for their shitty exes!
This book had me in stitches. I loved Parker’s chaotic energy from the beginning as she unloaded her trauma and lies onto her seat mate on her flight. Fast forward to this being her new boss and you have a laugh out loud book. This was an easy summer read with some cute moments between the main characters as their relationship blossomed, along with a lot of laughs. Liar Liar is a nice easy read that could pick anyone up out of a reading slump!
Read it! Olivia Lucas stories, including this one, pull you in and don’t let go. Even after a long time, the characters and crazy, hilarious scenes still make me laugh! Every sentence is so well crafted and intentional-no throw aways-ever. If I find myself jumping ahead, I stop and go back because I don’t want to miss even one sentence or paragraph. It sounds crazy, but it’s true! Thank you, Olivia!
Wow, this is a must read. Don’t think I’ve laughed so much reading a book. The chemistry between Ashley and Parker is incredible, the predicaments they get into laugh out loud funny. Loved all the characters hopefully there’s a sequel for her sister Rose.
I love comic relief in a book. I love the silly in the middle of the mundane. But I also need a philosophical reality thread in there too. This book? It has it all, the most laugh out loud but serious book I've ever read. Prepare yourself.
Olivia Lucas will never let you down. Her books are hilarious, her plots are so believable, and her characters so endearing. I wanted to hug Parker reassuringly, (carefully though, in case she overbalanced us into the garden.) and smooth the way for this couple. And the ending? I have read more romance books than I can count. I rarely write reviews but I had to write this one. This story wasn't just a feel good romance that hit me in the chest. It made me laugh so much I had to explain to my wife why I was laughing. You won't regret giving this book your time.
I really enjoyed this story written with a great sense of humor and very witty banter. Parker was such an awkward character and boss Ashley's cold demeanor certainly warmed in the presence of Parker. This book tickled my funny bone from beginning to end. I highly recommend for a fun and enjoyable read!
I liked this book. It made me laugh. This story bounces from coincidence to coincidence in a funny way. The sort where you split your trousers in front of someone on your way to an interview and when you get there, she's on the panel. It was a light hearted, comedic read - and it brightened up my day. What more could you ask for from a book?
