Schoolteacher Willi Gallagher is a regular kind of gal in a not-so-regular town. The next-door neighbors read palms and hold seances, and the town investigator haunts her with cryptic riddles. But all the education in the world couldn't prepare her for the mysterious things she about to encounter...
Nickleberry, Texas is abuzz with preparations for the annual Irish Fling Festival. But when a young local woman is found murdered, there's not much to celebrate. Willi Gallagher wants to help the investigation any way she can. But before she can say Erin Go Bragh, someone's planted a Celtic divination card in her house -- and killed her goldfish. And with these eerie omens, Willi realizes that this stranger has a message for her: Stay away -- or else...
Kat Goldring, a member of The Writerie, JCCW, WWA and DFWWW, resides in Cleburne, Texas, along with various wildlife including albino skunks, squirrels, and raccoons. All of her interests seem to find their way into her novels: family ties, guitar playing and singing, piano, art, wildlife, travel, good food and friends.
the writing was kind of frenetic and half the time I didn't know what Willa was blathering about. I used to have a soft spot for cozies but the last few I read just annoyed me. I probably won't give up but now I have to read something 'real'.
This is the second Willi Gallagher book I've read and although it was okay, I wasn't totally enamored with it.
I find that Willi can be frustrating as she drifts in and out of her musings with some spiritual elements. She is forever sticking it's nose into things, and seems really surprised when someone then wants to do her in. And don't get me started on Quannah. He's the boyfriend that is never there, never really sits still, and is most often not there when Willi needs him most.
The one saving grace so far has been the Wiccan sister that live on a neighbouring property, along with a pet pig familiar that finds it's way into Willi's bedroom ;-D
I really liked Willie, the sneezing sheriff the librarian who uses a word of the day and all of the other quirky characters in the novel. Each character is well written and entertaining in their own right. Discovering who the murderer was seemed secondary to getting to know the inhabitants of this Texas town.
I will have to look into finding books one and two to read and learn more about the twining storylines.
