Marriage of Convenience, Brooding Hero, Big Transformation
A sad story of how a daughter, Eleanor is treated by her family, especially her father because she is not blue eyed , blond like the rest of the family. She if forced to marry the Duke, Alexander, and will not let them meet until their wedding day. He is scarred mentally as his family, parents and brother were killed in a carriage accident a few years before. He is appalled at the way her family treats her and only condemns everything she does. But without them around, she is kind and caring, undertakes the restoration of part of the country Mano that dates back to thirteenth century. Enjoyable!
Amanda Seabrook writes with depth She adds layers to each character I truly appreciate the care she takes I truly enjoyed this story Alexander, Eleanor Victoria, and Theodore all changed so much over the course of the tale. I enjoyed it I also appreciated the length of not one but two epilogues. It always seems to me that it takes so doggone long to get to a happy ending and then it's usually over in a flash. Huge pet peeve.
Lovely book with a great emphasis on the importance of relationships and family. Loss of family can happen in many ways… and this book expresses the roller coaster of emotions involved. Eleanor and Alexander are thrown into a marriage of convenience, having been mistreated her entire life by her father she was unprepared for the care and eventually love of a good man. I recommend this book as a sweet read!
This was one of those romances where you feel completely taken with the characters. It is a story of good and bad times. Where the villain of the piece is not a nice man, you are glad when at long last everything is resolved to the satisfaction of the hero and heroine.
Lady Eleanor & the Duke are married & the only thing they have in common is perhaps history of the manor. As Eleanor & Alexander navigate this task they are growing closer together. As her family does not bring her any joy she sees less & less of them. Love creeps up & they are more in love than they know!!
This was an excellent example of the value of not always accepting that things are as they appear... people included. The story was so well written, and the relationships between each of the characters developed so that you knew them all intimately. Eleanor and Alexander grew before my eyes, And filled my heart with love. Truly worth reading!
Good chemistry between the LM and LL. Fairly well written story. Some of the main and secondary characters could have a bit more of their personalities fleshed out. I really enjoyed this story.
Enemies was so forgiving. Even after all that she had gone through. Truly she was a very special person. I am glad that her father was put out of reach her again. Thank you for a very enjoyable story.
How anyone could survive the continuous abuse of family shows how clever the author is! Page after page there is a reason to want to punish them. So she is married off to a recluse who is likely cruel. She overcomes them all. An engaging story!
I enjoyed this story very much. I started reading it yesterday and finished it today. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story line
I would have liked the story much more if Eleanor had not given money to her awful family behind the Duke's back and lied to her nearly perfect husband.
