A man resigned to a lonely future

And a woman fighting to overcome her past

Painfully shy, Harper Lynn is desperate to start a new life on Crossroads Ranch—even if her housekeeping skills aren’t quite up to her new boss’s standards. Ames Parker, the gruff ranchhand and her new coworker, is willing to show her the ropes and help her battle her PTSD—for the sake of the ranch, of course. But Harper soon learns that Ames has his own past hurts and is unable—or unwilling—to let down his well-fortified walls. Because he knows that once the former librarian sees his true self, she’ll run for the hills, breaking his heart in the process. Still, maybe a belief in possibilities can lead to a future neither expect…

I never read a category romance book with this subject before. it was different and I liked that about this book. The characters were complex and I was rooting for them.

I picked up Her Cowboy Protector by Sasha Summers expecting a sweet, classic cowboy romance and honestly that’s exactly what it is, in the best way. I loved every minute of it!
It’s been years since I regularly read cowboy romances, and this book reminded me why I fell in love with them in the first place. Sasha Summers blends that nostalgic cowboy romance feel with characters that still feel modern and genuine.
Ames completely stole the show for me. He’s gruff and not much of a talker, but the way he instinctively looks out for Harper Lynn had my heart melting. The dancing scene at Lookout Point absolutely sent me over the edge. It was so romantic and so sweet, and completely outside of Ames’s usual personality. Seeing him step outside his comfort zone for her made the moment even more swoon worthy.
Harper Lynn may seem delicate at first, but she proves she is stronger than anyone expects and I loved watching that unfold.
And of course I cannot forget Daisy the goat and Copper the dog. They were such a cute addition and added so much charm and life to the ranch.

Her Cowboy Protector by Sasha Summers
A Crossroads Ranch Story #1. Harlequin Special Edition.
Harper Lynn needed a change in her life. She travels to the Crossroads Ranch in Texas, to be the new housekeeper. Never mind she’s never done that kind of work before. Nor is it her real name. It gets her away from the news people and the constant staring and whispering. By nature, she’s a shy introvert although she is good at asking questions. That keeps the attention away from her. Harper is told to go to Ames for direction or help if needed. But Ames doesn’t seem to want anything to do with Harper. He keeps to one word answers or avoids her altogether. That’s ok. She will do her work and let him be alone.
Ames Parker has a past filled with trauma. Because of an injury, his voice is rough and raspy and he keeps his words short unless a nod will do. He finds himself watching Harper. Drawn to her. He wants to protect her, but also hide from her. Why her? He’s been fine on his own, alone for more than twenty years. Why does her shy and defensive posture call to him to comfort her? To assure her that he won’t let anything bad happen to her. He was getting all twisted up inside.
Neither has really had a relationship before. They don’t want the extra attention but can’t keep their eyes off each other. They want more but is it possible?

Oh the yearning, the sweet uncomfortable feelings and the uncertainty. Until a simple touch clicks the switch.

Charming, delightful, emotional and compelling.
Swooning. Me and them.
Loved this story. Cute dog and a goat that thinks she’s a dog just adds to the charm. The cold water shower accidental meet cute awkwardness was adorable.

Can’t wait for the next in the series.

First in the Crossroads Ranch series, in which former librarian Harper Lynn applies for a housekeeper job and finds herself at a huge ranch where the first cowboy she encounters barely speaks to her. Ames Parker has made the ranch his home since he was brought there by one of the brother owners of the big spread. He senses that Harper has PTSD but isn't sure why and is determined to find out, if only she will trust him.

Soon his desire to protect her turns to something more, but when she's told that her past has caught up with her and may place the people at Crossroads Ranch in jeopardy, she leaves. Was that the right thing to do? And what can her father tell her to convince her to go back to the ranch and to Ames?

Harper is looking for a new start after a life changing tragedy.

Ames is the foreman of the Crossroads Ranch. Crossroads is a place for fresh starts, and Ames was lucky to arrive at Crossroads as a child.

This is the first book set at Crossroads. I hope that places like Crossroads exist in the real world for the second chance so many people deserve. The ranch is full of interesting characters who have become a family.

I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to return to Crossroads.
