An FBI agent risks it all to stop a far-reaching conspiracy in a propulsive thriller by Steven Konkoly, the USA Today bestselling author of A Hired Kill.
FBI agent Garrett Mann is running out of time. His task force, ARTEMIS, is on the verge of disbandment, but he’s uncovered a sinister plot that could swing the upcoming presidential election. With a trail leading from Washington, DC, to rural Montana and finally to Tampa, Florida, Mann assembles a team of misfits and black-ops specialists to take on a shadowy conspiracy involving the CIA, a covert government contractor, and a third-party political movement.
As a hurricane bears down on Florida, Mann and his team launch a desperate raid on a yacht hiding secrets that could destroy everything. With the clock ticking and enemies closing in from all sides, they must secure crucial evidence before it’s too late. In this heart-pounding finale to the Garrett Mann series, the stakes have never been higher, and the cost of failure could be the very future of the nation itself.
Steven graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993, receiving a bachelor of science in English literature. He served the next eight years on active duty, traveling the world as a naval officer assigned to various Navy and Marine Corps units. This is definitely a must read for any FBI/crime suspense readers. The level of detail the author provides is unmatched. There is nonstop action throughout the entire book and never a dull moment.
While this is an addition to an ongoing series, I feel that you could start with this book and pick up without missing a beat. That was the case for me as I had not been aware of the series before finding this book. The overview for the book pulled me in right away. I was not disappointed.
The only reason I did not rate this higher was mainly because I felt a lot of the detail was very high level and at times hard to follow along with. I have to say, that I’m very impressed by the level of detail in this book. I read more about the author and saw he has quite extensive military experience which I feel lends to his detailed descriptions. He has a very impressive background.
Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a suspenseful federal agent type novel. Very well written, fast paced, and keeps you coming back until the very end. Well done.
A True Kill is a story full of action, deceit, lies. Who is spying and lying more, the FBI? The Russians? Those who want to take over the country? And only a team of rogue operators is willing to fight and put the traitors behind bars even knowing they might lose their lives. Fast-paced and with lots of intrigue and mystery A True Kill provides good entertainment. I thank the author, his publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.
Well done, Mr Konkoly! This installment in the Garrett Mam series had me entranced. The brilliant dialogue with the the return of Artemis was like old home week with danger around every corner. I adore this series and the style of the books brings them to life! My thanks to Thomas & Mercer for the download copy of the book for review purposes.
Full of action, suspense, intrigue, and a sense of urgency, Steven Konkoly’s third book in the Garrett Mann series, A Ture Kill, is a must-read for those who enjoy thrillers. It has aspects of crime, political, action, and conspiracy thrillers.
FBI Special Agent Mann and his task force are running out of time. Congressional hearings may result n their disbandment. However, they’ve uncovered a plot that could swing the upcoming presidential election. The trail leads from Washington D.C. to Montana, to Tampa, Florida. As Mann adds to his team with a convert government contractor and others, a hurricane bears down on Florida as they head there to raid a yacht hiding secrets that could kill thousands and sway an election. Can the team secure the evidence before it’s too late? Who will even survive?
Mann works well with others (at times) to gain cooperation and sometimes shows a somewhat dry and sarcastic sense of humor. His flaws make him seem more realistic and relatable. I particularly enjoyed his independent thinking and willingness to listen to recommendations from others. The secondary and tertiary characters have varying levels of depth. Readers are getting to know the repeat characters better. There are a lot of characters in this novel, but many of them were seen in earlier books and others are familiar characters from another series by this author. However, a much-needed character list is not provided for those who are new to this author.
This book moves at a fast pace throughout. However, I feel that those who haven’t read book one will be somewhat lost, as no recap is provided. I was hooked from the beginning with a plot that has several twists and turns along the way. While the action is over-the-top, it was so full of excitement, drama, and danger that it kept me frantically turning the pages.
Konkoly continues to bring great characters, an intriguing plot, and heart-pounding action together in exhilarating novels. The gripping scenes and great plot kept me on the edge of my seat. He has become one of my favorite authors and I look forward to reading more from him.
Overall, this book was intense, suspenseful, action-packed and violent with compelling characters, high-stakes, and a story that is unsettling, gripping, and thought-provoking. If you enjoy thrillers, then look no further than this series. I’m looking forward to reading book four and see where the author takes the storyline. I highly recommend reading this series in order.

Recommendation: One of my favorites thriller authors, not at his best. I'd give this one a pass ━and move on to the next.
Book Review: "A True Kill", Garrett Mann #3 by Steven Konkoly Published by Thomas & Mercer Book launch date: March 10, 2026 Review based on an advance review copy courtesy of Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley.
★★★☆☆ 3.5 Stars
═━ Review Spotlight: Firefights galore to ━oblivion!
In 2019, when I reviewed "The Rescue" and "The Raid", (Ryan Decker 1 & 2), by military thriller author Steven Konkoly, (both novels 5-Star reads), I noted back then that "...what I like most about the Ryan Decker series by Steven Konkoly, apart from the excellent writing, is its absence of the political toxicity which permeates the works of otherwise excellent storytellers".
As I read the last page of this book, "A True Kill", I reflect back, and think.
What a difference seven years has made. . . ═━ "A True Kill", Garrett Mann #3 by Steven Konkoly (2026) ═━
The Protagonists. Having successfully investigated cartel-related killings along the southern border (Books 1 & 2), the elite FBI task force, ARTEMIS, is at the verge of being disbanded when its maverick leader, FBI Special Agent Garrett Mann, decides to go off on a tangent. Go rogue. Head an off-the-books operation against what he perceives to be a threat to the integrity of the U.S. presidential elections. He assembles a team, charitably described as "misfits", a team which includes an ex-Mexican policewoman, his love interest, to whom he promises a U.S. green card, and a tech specialist named Anish Gupta.
__// "We illegally work with Mexican nationals, former-CIA black ops mercenaries, and whoever else is willing to lend a hand to take down the bad guys." ━ Garrett Mann, "A True Kill" by Steven Konkoly //
The Antagonists. Equally paradoxical, an amalgamation of highfalutin acronyms, AXIOM, LABYRINTH, DOMINION led by a guy in a wheelchair, headquartered in a rural compound in Montana, and at his yacht in Tampa Bay, the organization's only other major asset.
They're supposedly endowed with the treasure, organization and wherewithal to buy or steal votes in 7 swing states and prop up the presidential candidate, not named in the book, of a political party known as, ━ wait for it, "True America".
Lest we forget the rest of the talking points, with the help of none other than "Russia, Russia, Russia", of course, and, of all the absurdities, Mexican drug cartels.
Will the Quixote threat be neutralized?
Author's Forte. Let the firefights begin! 90% of the book plays to the forte of military thriller author, Steven Konkoly, that which endeared his writing to many readers (and ex-readers, too). Kinetic action parceled out to assaults by protagonists on the (unoccupied, unfortified) compound in Montana, and on the yacht in Tampa, the latter under hurricane conditions. Vivid depictions of gun battles, assaults and skirmishes, intimate knowledge and impressive details with regard to advanced weaponry and tactics which, in its entirety, can only come from actual training and combat experience, and patriotism and service to the country.
tgw━━━━════════
Rating and recommendation: One of my favorites thriller authors, not at his best. 3 Shining Stars, if only to show a deep respect for the author.
But I'd give this one a pass ━and move on to the next.
Time is running out for agents to disrupt a sinister plot
Garrett Mann runs an FBI task force known as ARTEMIS, which is composed of highly competent operatives who have run afoul of the rules and norms of their previous units. They have done good work together, but there are those who want the group to be disbanded given their unorthodox approach (i.e., prone to breaking the rules and even the law) and their uneven success rate. Their latest and possibly last mission is to track down what is behind a group of killings which seemingly point to a serial killer but instead are part of a plan to affect the results of the upcoming presidential election. Those they are tracking have ties to a third party political group, a shady government contractor group and members of the intelligence committee, and Mann and his fellow misfits have little time to get results and plenty of obstacles to overcome if they are to get the evidence needed to bring the conspiracy to light before it achieves its goals...and even Mother Nature decides to throw them a curveball. In this third installment of author Steven Konkoly's Garrett Mann series there is plenty of action which will keep the reader turning the pages. Gun battles, raids, and tactical operations of all stripes keep the tension building until the climax aboard a yacht during a hurricane. There are lots of characters and many layers to the storyline, with drug cartels, geopolitical agendas and covert networks all involved, Given the political nature of the underlying plot it is not surprising that politics and the general toxicity thereof are a large part of the narrative, and there is a clear tilt as to which is the "bad" side which some might find off-putting. I would also advise those who haven't read the first two in the series to do so before tackling this installment....with the many characters (some of whom appear in other of the author's series) and all the acronyms for different groups and projects, it is a heavier slog to launch into this book without some grounding then is the case in other series I have read. Those who enjoy thrillers with a law enforcement bent that is heavy on realistic procedural elements might want to give the series a try, as might fans of Konkoly's other series and readers of Vince Flynn, Ben Coes and Brad Thor. I found it a solid read, good but not great....3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 4. My thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for allowing me access to the book in exchange for my honest review.
Garret Mann and his team are back — but this time, they’re officially suspended and unofficially racing against the clock. While sidelined, they continue investigating what appears to be a serial killer — though the case may be far more complex and politically explosive than it first seems. As if that weren’t enough, the shadow of True America still looms large, complicating an already dangerous situation. With limited resources and mounting pressure, Mann and his team must operate in the gray areas to stop a threat that could have devastating consequences.
A Tru Kill delivers exactly what fans of Steven Konkoly have come to expect: high-stakes tension, relentless pacing, and a gripping political edge. From the very first chapter, the story pulls you in and refuses to let go.
Garret Mann and his team are once again at the center of the storm. Their official suspension adds an extra layer of urgency and tension, forcing them to work outside the lines while time rapidly slips away. The investigation into a supposed serial killer quickly reveals deeper and more dangerous implications, making the stakes feel even higher than in previous installments. The continued presence of True America adds political complexity and an undercurrent of instability that keeps the plot sharp and unpredictable.
This story is a thrilling, nonstop action political thriller that absolutely lives up to the excitement of the previous books. Konkoly excels at balancing intense action sequences with smart political intrigue, and he once again proves his ability to hook the reader from beginning to end. There’s never a dull moment — just escalating tension and constant momentum.
I read this book as an eARC while also listening to the audiobook ARC, and I thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. The audiobook narrator did an excellent job bringing the characters and action to life, enhancing the already immersive story.
Thank you to Steven Konkoly, Thomas & Mercer, and Brilliance Publishing for providing me with the ARCs of this novel through NetGalley. These opinions are my own. I look forward to seeing whether Mann and his team will return in another novel — and after this installment, I certainly hope they do.
I enjoyed this book. It's obviously a series and I might not have known the characters and backstory between them, having only just joined the series but it was entertaining and action packed enough to keep me hooked. It was also well written making it easy to follow along and catch up with the plot. To be honest I don't know how I could have missed the previous books and it is a state that will be corrected very soon, I said I was hooked. I liked the characters, especially the banter between Mann's team members. As this is my first book I wasn't sure how likely the author was to kill off the characters and I had my fingers crossed that everybody made it through. Luckily the story moves at a fast pace and I didn't need to get out the tissues. As for the story let's just say there is plenty of action, explosions and dead bodies. The storming of the boat during a hurricane was unusual and kicked the story up another notch. I could easily picture it playing out as a movie. So sit back and enjoy the ride, as the good guys take the fight to the baddies.
Mann's misfit of agents have one more mission to carry out in order to take down there arch nemesis. They just have to find them first. When they storm there obvious base, despite Mann's misgivings it turns out to be a trap and it's Mann's team that is being hunted. Can they turn the tables? When the terrorist group goes after Mann's Mexican team mates, things get deadly and has Mann scrabbling to plan an operation during a hurricane, which is bad enough but the target is hiding out on a boat. Who will come out on top? And more importantly who will survive the encounter? I liked the narrator. There was a lot of characters in the book and a number of them needed accents, well okay they didn't need them but they sure sounded better with them and narrator did a good job providing them. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is the third and final book in the Garrett Mann trilogy. We have followed the FBI's Task Force -Artemis - as they were on the path of a serial killer that ended up being much, much more. Now they realize that the battle is against a very well-funded organization named True America that wants to completely change the face of the United States.
This series has brought together characters from a couple of Mr. Konkoly's other series, and this book is no different. It was a fun crossover and was nice to see many of the characters back together.
Somehow, it seems as if True America is always one step ahead of Artemis and after a few events that end up with some pretty severe casualties, the Artemis Task Force is suspended. Fortunately, or unfortunately.....Mann and the gang are invested in finding and stopping True America, even if they have to break some rules.
This book is filled with non stop action that continues to build and build until we get to the big finale. No one is safe and Mann has made himself an enemy and the number one target of this terrorist group.
I listened to the Audio ARC narrated by Steve Corona, who has been the narrator for this entire series. He did a wonderful job with the narration and the portrayal of all of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this Audio ARC/ALC. This book will be out for publication on March 10, 2026.
I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story continues Garrett's quest to stop True America and a Program identified as Dominion. They had previously attacked a group identified as Axiom where one of the individuals, Greely, had a item called SATCHEL that contained Dominion and managed to evade Garrett and his team known as Artemis. The only clue that Garrett had to go on was "Montana". Since Greely had a ranch in Montana, Garrett took his team to search and while there they were attacked and he wound up losing several members of his team. Garrett regrouped with additional members for Artemis as well as a team from Mexico led by Cata also becoming a part as well. They all regrouped in D.C. and tried to discover where Greely and the members of Trus America were currently located. They eventually discovered where they were located and made plans to intercept them.
Follow along with Garrett, Cata and the rest of the team as they finally confront them and it happened during a hurricane. Discover where the location was, what actions the team took and what eventually happened once they caught up with Greely and the True America folks. The ending will answer any questions and provide information as to why Cata and the others from Mexico wanted to be included at what support they eventually provided.
This is a great ending for the series and the book is well worth the read, don't miss out!
3.5 stars. This is the third book in the Garrett Mann series. Mann is an FBI agent and the book is a political action thriller. I’ve enjoyed other political action thrillers like The Grey Man series, so this book intrigued me but since I hadn’t read the other two (A Clean Kill and A Hired Kill), it didn’t resonate, so I would recommend having read these two before reading this book.
Since I didn’t realize this was the 3rd book in a series, I was kind of lost. When the book opens, Mann is in the process of rebuilding his team - those first several pages with all its acronyms (in my past life I’ve with the federal government so I’m far too familiar with their love of them) that overwhelmed me. It took a bit to catch up. In this book, Mann and his team, ARTEMIS, are going after a plot to which threatens to influence a political election (very timely topic). Mann and ARTEMIS are fighting Harrison Greeley and his AXIOM team. Because of the ambush, Mann is not being funded by the government and has to fight alone.
There’s plenty of action in the book. The ending was pretty good - taking down the enemy in a hurricane. It’s heart pounding to the final book in this series. I may have liked the book more if I had read the first two. So my caution to anyone reading this review: read the first two books!
I’d like to thank NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for allowing me to read this ARC.
The final installment in the Garrett Mann series plunges headfirst into the action, immediately resuming where the previous book left off. In this compelling narrative, Mann and his team of diverse agents courageously confront True America, a malevolent organization orchestrating a sinister plan to manipulate the presidential election and plunge the world into widespread chaos. It's hard not to draw parallels to the current political climate, isn't it? Setting aside those thoughts, we witness the profound challenges and heartbreaking losses faced by Mann's team as they tirelessly battle against insurmountable odds to thwart their adversaries' sinister ambitions. As in the previous books, the intricate web of characters and competing factions creates a complex landscape that can be quite demanding to navigate. However, the narrative expertly builds suspense, culminating in a satisfying resolution that brings closure to both the individual story and the entire series.
I extend my sincere gratitude to NetGalley for the exceptional opportunity to preview A True Kill. I am genuinely eager to see what exciting new directions Steven Konkoly will explore in his writing career as this captivating series comes to a close.
Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC of A True Kill by Steven Konkoly.
This is a taut, politically charged thriller with real pace and urgency. In this final instalment, FBI agent Garrett Mann is racing against time as his task force faces disbandment just as he uncovers a conspiracy that could destabilise a US presidential election.
The action moves from Washington, DC to Montana and on to a hurricane-threatened Florida, where Mann assembles a specialist team to confront a covert network involving the CIA, a government contractor and a third-party political movement. The storm-lashed finale adds intensity, and the stakes feel convincingly high throughout.
Mann is a strong, principled lead, and the blend of procedural detail and black-ops strategy keeps the narrative both credible and fast-moving.
The narration enhances the tension, maintaining clarity during complex scenes and sustaining the pressure through to a well-paced, dramatic conclusion.
A cinematic and satisfying end to the series and a solid four star listen.
A True Kill is the third book in the Garrett Mann series, and Mann and his band of misfit agents and mercenaries are again engaged with True America, a political movement that is seeking to influence the upcoming presidential election. The action is fast and furious, with extended battle scenes and operational planning. The book picks up where the last one finished, so there’s a little recap in first few pages interspersed with new info. But I felt like I was reading the same book as the previous one, as the formula is the same. There’s no new characters or twists, plot is just a continuation, and the outcome is never in doubt with a predictable ending. And you really need to read the other books in the series or the multitude of acronyms will be confusing. Overall a little disappointing, and it feels like this series has run its course. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Am I an FBI agent after being in training by Steven Konkoly? Not even. This the third best ok in a series showcasing FBI agent Garrett Mann, an agent that is cautious on the success of the latest threat. The government conspiracy could significantly swing the next presidential election. Konkoly does not bring great tension in the story but accomplishes the task of giving us technical research of how to find the guilty. Some side characters stand out in the hunt for the villains.
I wish I had read the first two books in this series as it would give me a lot ore respect for this character. The audiobook narrator seems to be very comfortable giving voice to the various characters, good job. This audiobook is recommended for those that love a failed government story or a conspiracy theory.
#netgalley #brillanceaudio #brilliancepublishing #garrettmann Thanks to NetGalley for providing the advanced audio version in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 stars
A True Kill by Steven Konkoly iis an action-packed political thriller that delivers nonstop momentum from start to finish. The pacing is relentless, making it nearly impossible to put down.
The plot dives deep into government conspiracy, international influence on U.S. politics, and the manipulation of a presidential election—high-stakes themes that are handled with intensity and confidence.
This is book three in the Garrett Mann series, but it works well as a standalone. While reading the first two books would add helpful context to some character backstories, I had no trouble following the story or staying fully engaged.
The audiobook narration by Steve Corona was excellent and truly brought the story to life. Overall, the production quality was outstanding and elevated an already gripping thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley & Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio for letting me read this ARC.
A True Kill is action-packed and suspenseful! This is the 3rd book in the Garrett Mann series, and while I think it could be read as a standalone (the author provides enough backstory to fill in a newcomer), reading the books in order will provide the best experience, letting the reader get to know the characters and follow Mann's FBI task force ARTEMIS through its initial hunt for a serial killer to epic battles against a cunning radical group out to rig the next presidential election and take over America. Konkoly's military background and knowledge lend credibility to the descriptions of complex operations that pit Mann's team against elite militia units. The story is chilling, gripping, and fast-paced, barely giving Mann's team (or the reader) to recover from one mission before plunging into the next. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know if there is such a thing as a sure thing when it comes to books but for me Steven Konkoly is just that. A True Kill is the latest adventure with Garrett Mann. I do recommend that you read them in order, it makes more sense that way. The series is rather unique when it comes to thrillers and it's great fun reading them. I must confess that I haven't read everything from this author but what I have read so far is top notch. This books picks up where the last one ended and Mann and his task force Artemis is in trouble. Thankfully there are those in managment that turns a blind eye so that they can continue their hunt for some really bad guys. I do recommend this series and thank Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for letting me read this advance copy.
Thanks to @netgalley @author_steven_konkoly & @thomasmerceruk for the ARC.
I didn't realise this was the 3rd and final book in the Garrett Mann series so initially I did find it hard to follow because the other books had clearly set up the story for this one. That being said, this was a fast paced, riveting and relentless high action FBI thriller where the team are on a high stakes, unsanctioned mission to stop the hijacking of the US elections by a radical group who have cells embedded throughout the US. An ideal read for those who enjoy covert FBI/CIA/PsyOps books.
This was a great conclusion to the Artemis team. An amazing action packed read. The task force is constantly facing challenges but they mange each and every time. Mann being the target of True America causes some casualties but the team was dedicated to taking them down. Even breaking a few rules, or laws.
Serrano and the cartel made for such an interesting plot. I loved that she got payback for what was done to her mom. That ending was movie perfect. Mann and Serrano will live rent free in my head for the rest of eternity. They are battle worn and need a rest.
Garrett Mann’s trilogy comes to an end. A True Kill is a high stakes, fast paced, spy thriller that ties up loose ends from the previous books.
In this installment FBI Agent Garrett Mann is investigating what he believes to be a huge conspiracy that’s threatening the current presidential election.
Garrett leads the ARTEMIS team and as we get into the book we see he’s faced with losing that team. He’s unearthing a conspiracy that could risk the future of the US & the CIA could be involved, right?!
The story roams from Washington DC to Montana to Florida & ends up on a boat, during a hurricane in a mad hunt to find evidence. We are talking heart pounding, edge of your seat, action.
Will Agent Mann save the day?
Thank you Brilliance Publishing & NetGalley, I miss Agent Mann already.
Great read. Konkoly wins again with the suspense filled and highly riveting third installment in his Garrett Mann series. Garrett, and his FBI operatives from his highly secretive and not always sanctioned ARTEMIS team, are on a time sensitive mission to finally stop the radical combo of Dominion and TrueAmerica from hijacking the upcoming elections and taking the US down a nefarious road by activating hidden radical operative cells throughout the US. Non stop suspense and high caliber, thrilling action from start to finish. Great characters in a fabulously entertaining story.
The 3rd and final novel in the Garrett Mann series by Steven Konkoly, in which the ARTEMIS team goes all out trying to save the United States from bad people. Plenty of action/drama, fast paced tension throughout, old and new team members, and a plot line that delivers. If you enjoyed this series, I HIGHLY recommend Konkoly's "Black Flagged" series...My personal fav series! Thanks to Steven Konkoly, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for the ARC of this fantastic thriller....out March 10, 2026.
I am a big Konkoly fan and happened to see this book in the Kindle stor a few days ago - it sounded like my kind of novel - and it really delivered. Action, organization, planning and more action. The cast of characters comes to life and for me one of the best parts of the book - that I have sorely missed lately - is the last few chapters closing off the loose ends. Reminded me of the "Godfather" series where we got to read/see the end results. Loved it.
Wow. Another great read from Steven Konkoly in the Garett Mann series. These always have great plot, great action, and great pacing. And of course great characters. Can't wait for more in this series. #ATrueKill #NetGalley
