Dominic Voss is everything Claire Quade’s ex-husband is not. Not only is the new attorney at her office charming, gorgeous, and sensual, but the instant attraction and sexual energy between them is palpable. When she discovers he’s also her new neighbor, there’s no doubt in her mind.
It was meant to be.
Before long, a few friendly exchanges and dinner at her house turns into an erotic show from his window before he closes the blinds. Whatever game he’s playing, she wants in. But as their affair intensifies, Claire realizes Dominic is not just too good to be true.
He’s dangerous. And he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.
S. E. Green is the award-winning and best-selling author of young adult and adult books. She grew up in Tennessee where she dreaded all things reading and writing. She didn’t even read her first book for enjoyment until she was twenty-five. After that, she was hooked! When she’s not writing, she's usually traveling or hanging out with a rogue armadillo that frequents her backyard.
This is a great, creepy novel about divorced mother, Claire and daughter Kelsey who are intrigued by their new neighbor, Dominic who conveniently is a new hire in Claire's law firm. Initially attracted to him, Claire begins to realize there is something a little "off" about him but he seems to be everywhere and know everything about her! Read this in one sitting as I couldn't put it down!
If this had been 100 pages longer and more fleshed out it could’ve been an easy five stars. However it’s a perfect fast paced and intense read to get you out of a reading slump! (It worked for me!)
We started off slow but once we hit 50 pages in I was swiped up in a whirlwind, it reminded me a lot of Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hiller so if you enjoyed that give this a shot and vice versa!
I think if you like jar of Hearts, Freida McFadden & S.T Abby you will really enjoy this!
It’s an intense fast paced ride but do check your TWs as people who have been involved with a stalker or an abusive relationship may find this very triggering.
This is quite a short psychological thriller about cat and mouse games and the danger of becoming nvolved with a dangerous manipulator.
Claire is soon to be 40, divorced with a teenage daughter. Although on excellent terms with her ex husband Brian, and with a busy and fulfilling career as a lawyer Claire's romantic life is in the doldrums. She's had brief hookups but nothing serious since her divorce.
Enter Dominic Voss, a new lawyer who has joined the firm she works for. He's also her new neighbour, Very attractive, charming and intelligent they are instantly drawn to each other and after a weekend of passionate lovemaking Claire starts to wonder if this could become something more serious.
But Dominic soon starts making demands, he's possessive and dominant, he starts showing signs of unstable and concerning behaviour. He befriends Claire's daughter, charms her colleagues and starts invading her orderly life. He starts stalking her, she receives silent phone calls, he follows her around and before long he's blackmailing her and threatening those she loves. Can Claire escape and protect her family, her job, even her life?
I enjoyed this. I like Claire, she was a strong, fesity woman, no wilting violet. She gave as good as she got, which made a refreshing change, she was determined to do whatever it took to free herself from Dominic's clutches.
The story was satisfying and engaging, I found myself wishing it was longer.
This book was written in a way that is easy to read. The story itself is lacking. The characters make unbelievable choices and things work out too convenient for the FMC.
Kelsey and Brian are written in a way where there turn against their mother for an email, from a man they know is suspect, would not happen.
The thumb drive the bad guy carries just so happens to have very incriminating things he’s ever done, but we never find out why….this seems less than believable.
This story is more dark romance than thriller. It’s seems the author wanted to write smut. There was 2 or so chapters of decently written sex then awkward filler for the rest.
Overall this author is a decent writer but the story seems unbelievable and lazy.

The book was decent overall. But I liked the first half of the book significantly more than the second half. The villain was cartoonishly evil. I mean it’s normal for the main character to find out oh he has maybe killed someone before or has a sketchy past. But this guy was essentially a serial killer. I mean the escalation levels felt off. A lot of both main characters motivations made little sense. The last fight scene felt very unlikely. The epilogue felt unnecessary. Idk. My rating of the book went down the longer I read it. So I gave it my average of 3 stars.

My first impression of this book was that it is a trashy romance novel with a obsessed, psycho killer. After reading it my lasting impression is that it is a trashy romance novel with an obsessed psycho killer.
That is probably an accurate assessment, but I finished the last three quarters of this novella in one setting. So, giving complements where they are due, it is a compelling and quick read. The characters are understandable and probably based in reality.
Love this book. Quick read because you can’t put it down. Sad that some people can actually relate to this. But also an eye opener to remind people to be wise in life choices. S.E. Green , keep them coming 😉
Talk about a book keeping you on your toes, WOW.... This story will definitely keep you reading and there is no way you would want to stop. The author sure knows how to keep it going. Love this book.... A definite must read.
It was a short read, but it was packed to the brim with all the things. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that Claire gave Dominic a second chance after she ended things with him.
As with all of her books, the characters are wonderfully written. You know them well. The story was well done. I did not need a book about a psycho and a helpless victim. Loved it!!!
Kind of does the 50 shades of grey beginning but keeps moving at a nice pace throughout...I couldn't guess anywhere along the way and nothing was drawn out too far to lead to boredom..I was really surprised. Good read!
This was our book club pick for January. There are aspects of this book I enjoyed, but I found it to be super predictable and very choppy in the writing style. I didn’t hate it, but it’s not something I’d choose to read again, nor does it live rent free in my head. So I’m giving it 3 stars.
Had me hooked from page one and kept me hooked until the very very end! Even had me listening to the end credits and about the author hoping there was a 2nd book😭
