Disappointed

I usually love this author, but there's no character development, just 6 guys names and a lot of spice scenes. The bones of the story is there, but no connection to history building between characters and it even skips time in spots that could have been utilized. Very sad as I was excited to see another story from this author. Perhaps less alphas and more pages with descriptions, world building, etc. I was actually very interested in the alpha compound from previous books and this was a let down.

this book seems like something I would write…at 13…on wattpad 😐 no way ppl are reading this book and enjoying it and then giving it 4/5 stars??

I came in with high expectations because the plot of it seems pretty good. But when being 42 pages in, there’s no building up on anything?? no world building?? I’m assuming it’s in the modern world. the sex scene is terrible and I only read one of them. Fmc have no personality. everything is so one dimensional, there’s no depth.

I wanted to dnf this book early on but I had hope and now I want my brain cells back cuz wtf was I reading??

This was my first Omegaverse book and, as a lot of the other reviewers have said, it reads like something straight off of Wattpad. There was almost no plot or world building. No character development. It was just tons and tons of sex with knotting included.

Now, I can get down with a book that's mostly smut as long as there's one of two other things; it's either got to have great characters whose chemistry and relationship I can get behind, or it's got to have a compelling plot. This book had neither of those things.

It was frustrating because I could see the bones of a decent story in here. The characters had a hint of depth to them, which could have been developed into something compelling...but it wasn't. And there was the start of a halfway decent plot too, but it was left to starve as well. So disappointing.

And I really didn't understand how the rules and the hierarchy in this world work, which I'll get into in the spoiler.


Okay, we start with a flashback to when our heroine was a teenager. She and Tyler believe they're fated mates. Now, this was the first thing that wasn't explained. In most shapeshifter romances, meeting your fated mate is a big fricken deal. True, they can reject each other, but that's usually a very painful process because it goes against nature or the moon goddess or whatever flavor of shifter we're dealing with. It's definitely not something the couple in question can be UNSURE about.

But here in this story, Tyler and Carmen have been dating for a while and SUSPECT they might be fated mates but aren't really sure. Then on a night when they were supposed to be together, Carmen finds Tyler at a strip club throwing dollar bills at the naked ladies. He tells her to get lost, that they're through and he doesn't want her. Now, this breaks her heart, but just in a regular human way. It's not some cosmic, part-of-my-soul-is-being-ripped-away kind of thing. And no one else in the whole book even discusses fated mates. Not anyone else ever finding their fated mate, or that fated mates are this super special rare event, or anything at all. So the whole thing just felt really underdeveloped.

The next chapter picks up with Carmen in her twenties. She lives in the werewolf compound run by the king alpha Henry. This, too, goes unexplained. Henry is in his 60s and apparently everybody hates him because he keeps disrespecting other alphas and stealing their omegas....but no one has done anything about it. No one has, say, challenged Henry for his throne. In fact, everyone, including Tyler, walks in fear of Henry because he's able to do whatever he wants.

I don't understand how this society works. In most shifter stories, the position of king alpha is either won by force and kept through defending against any challengers, or it's a bloodline thing and the son of the previous alpha always takes over. I have no idea if either of these things is true in Henry's case. He certainly isn't portrayed in the story as some one who is strong enough to take and hold the position through force, so what gives? And he also doesn't seem to care about bloodlines either, since at the beginning of this story he finds out that his son has been killed, probably by the MCs from the last book, and he doesn't give a damn. You'd think that, if the position of king was held through bloodlines, that he'd have been really upset to have his only son and heir killed, but he's not. I just don't get it.

Anyway, Carmen lives in this compound and runs a babysitting business. She's a known Omega, but doesn't have a pack of her own and doesn't seem all that worried about it, honestly. Tyler lives in the compound too, working for Henry as a guard. He has his own little pack made up of him, Jaxson, and Axel. They're all guards together.

Now, we're told through Tyler's inner monolog that he only rejected Carmen all those years ago because it would "protect" her. He knew he was about to go to work for Henry and since Henry was known to love to steal the Omegas of the men around him, Tyler thought it would put Carmen on Henry's radar if he claimed her. So...he broke things off with her, thereby leaving her packless and unmated and therefore with no one to protect her at all...great plan.

And it didn't even really work, because Henry knows all about Carmen. He comes into her home at the beginning of the story and asks where a friend of hers is. I assume this friend was the heroine of the previous book. Carmen denies knowing her whereabouts and Henry leaves, but not before insisting Carmen come to a party he's hosting at his mansion the following night. Since he's the king, Carmen doesn't really have a choice, though she's skeeved out by him.

Tyler has taken note of the fact that Henry is sniffing around Carmen and feels compelled to try to protect her...but doesn't really do anything. Like, he still won't claim her as a mate, and he won't cross Henry so his protection doesn't amount to much. He stops by her house, with his pack, and tries to tell her not to go to the party, but Carmen still hates him for rejecting her so she tells him to buzz off.

Tyler's pack mate, Jaxson, is VERY taken with Carmen. He immediately wants to claim her as their Omega. Apparently her scent drives him wild. But Tyler, the leader of their pack, says no, Carmen is not for them, and that's that. Except it's not QUITE that. Carmen, as an Omega, is very susceptible to the alpha pheromones this pack gives off, and she gets crazy horny while they're there. She goes into her room and while in there hears her apartment door open and close. So she thinks Tyler and his pack have left. So she starts pleasuring herself, only to have Jaxson walk in and offer to help her. She accepts and he goes down on her until she reaches the big-O and then leaves. Outside, Tyler can tell by the smells clinging to Jaxson what happened in the apartment and he's pissed.

Carmen calls her best friend, Logan, and asks him to go with her to the party so she won't be alone and vulnerable to Henry. Logan is hesitant at first, but then agrees to come along with his own pack, made up of him, Talon, and Griffin.

The day of the party arrives and Logan comes to pick Carmen up. This is the first time she's meeting his pack, which again made me lament the lack of world building. How does she know Logan well enough to consider him her best friend, but not know his pack at all? Where did she meet Logan? Your guess is as good as mine.

They go to the party and nothing really happens there. However, Henry does make it clear that he's very interested in making Carmen his next Omega.

Oh, and there was a scene in there somewhere where Tyler tried to tell Henry that Carmen WAS his pack's Omega, supposedly in an attempt to protect her. I totally didn't understand how this would make any sense when, in the prologue, Tyler had felt that NOT claiming her would somehow protect her. So how would it help to do the opposite now? It all comes to nothing, though, because Henry suggest Tyler bite Carmen, thereby marking her as officially belonging to his pack, and Tyler refuses to do it. So the lie collapses, making the whole thing pointless and leaving Carmen feeling rejected by Tyler yet again.

Moving on, Carmen and Logan agree that she's got to get out of the compound. So, Logan pretends to propose to her and when they're questioned by the guards on the way out of town, he says they're going on their honeymoon. Meanwhile, Tyler continues to worry about Carmen and feels like he needs to stay close to her in order to protect her. He's also been getting a lot of grief from Jaxson for not claiming her because he's sure she's meant to be their Omega.

They follow Carmen, Logan, and his pack to a house several hours away and just kind of, stake the place out. Inside the house, Logan confesses that he's always been in love with Carmen and suggests she become his pack's Omega for real, as it would help protect her from Henry. Carmen hesitates because she's only ever seen Logan as a friend and doesn't want to ruin their friendship.

She's uncomfortable after the conversation so she goes for a walk in the blizzard, promptly getting lost and passing out in a ditch. Tyler sees her leave and when she doesn't return, he and his pack go looking for her. They find her half-frozen and have to do the requisite "I'll warm you with my sexy body heat" scene. Logan and his pack aren't at the house when they arrive, all out looking for Carmen, so Tyler and his pack strip Carmen down and cuddle up with her in front of the fire. When Logan's pack returns to find Carmen naked and being spooned by Tyler and Jaxson, Logan is pissed.

Logan takes Jaxson's place and both he and Tyler are sporting erections. This triggers Carmen to go into heat. In this universe, heat is incredibly painful for Omegas, and can even kill them. They HAVE to have sex with an alpha pack or they'll be in agony, for weeks and ultimately die. This is kind of a raw deal for Omegas and that could have been a really interesting thing to explore. They're so thoroughly ruled by their hormones and body chemistry that they end up begging to be fucked by whatever alpha is around. Even if it's someone they hate. But, because there's no real world building or development, none of this gets explored.

Anyway, Tyler is still insisting that he's not interested in Carmen so he refuses to sleep with her, much to Jaxson's dismay. So Logan takes Carmen upstairs. He's ready to get busy with her, but Carmen says no. She's upset that Tyler has rejected her a third time, and she doesn't want to ruin her relationship with Logan, so she says she doesn't want to sleep with anyone and Logan leaves.

Carmen proceeds to scream in agony and finally Tyler relents and goes to have sex with her. She's a virgin so this is her first time. He says a lot of things about how he'll never leave her again and he was a fool for pushing her away. How he hopes he gets her pregnant because the thought of her big with his child is such a turn on, Etc. After he's done knotting her, Jaxson jumps in and has sex with her too.

Unfortunately, while this is happening, Tyler gets a call from Henry telling him to come home and search for Carmen because she's gone missing and Henry won't stand for that. She smells too good and Henry wants her. So, no sooner has Jaxson's knot receded, than Tyler bursts in and says they're leaving. That this was a mistake and he doesn't want Carmen after all. Poor Axel never even got to sleep with her. Jaxson is mutinous about Tyler's decision but follows him anyway. Carmen is heartbroken to be rejected by Tyler yet again. He even tells her straight out to let Logan knot her because he, Tyler, will never want her for his Omega. Then they leave.

This leaves Carmen, still in heat, and now with only one option - Logan and his pack. So they proceed to all have sex over and over for the next week or so until Carmen's heat passes. Then they decide to move down to Florida together.

Next chapter picks up with Carmen, Logan, Talon, and Griffin living happily as a pack and expecting a baby. Carmen loves them all, now, though I have to wonder if it's real love or just the fact that they were her only option. We never see them do anything but have sex together. No relationship building or getting to know you stuff. Hell, she barely knew Griffin and Talon before sleeping with them. They also treat her like a queen and take care of her every need, as is typical of an alpha pack with their Omega. So it all came together to paint a picture of a relationship built on friendship and need, rather than actual love. But this is the story we're given.

Then we flash back to Tyler. He gets a call from Henry who reveals that Carmen has been found living in Florida and he sends Tyler to go collect her. This struck me as odd because Tyler had already tried to tell Henry that Carmen belonged to his own pack, so why would Henry think Tyler would happily bring her back to give to him? I think it was pretty obvious from that scene that Tyler had been trying to keep Henry from claiming Carmen. So sending him on this trip would just give Tyler a chance to warn her. Which is exactly what Tyler tries to do, only he does it by flying down there rather than, say, calling.

Carmen is not happy to see Tyler, after all his rejections, but she does believe him when he says Henry knows where she is. Unfortunately for them, it turns out that Henry isn't quite the idiot he seemed and he sent a whole crap ton of guards down to capture Carmen, I guess because he knew he couldn't trust Tyler to do the job. And that sounds great until you realize that this means there was no in-story reason for Henry to tell Tyler where Carmen was AT ALL, in that case. Choo-choo! All aboard the plot-hole express.

Logan's and Tyler's packs all try to fight off the guards but it's no use, there are just too many of them and Carmen is swiftly captured and bundled into a van. Once the fighting stops and the men all realize that Carmen has been taken, Tyler offers to join Logan's pack, with Logan as the recognized leader, because they think it's the only way they'll defeat Henry. I didn't really understand how this would help. I mean, the six of them had all just been fighting together for Carmen a few minutes ago and they weren't enough to defeat Henry's men. How does them saying they're now one pack of six instead of two packs of three really help the situation?

They all fly back to the compound and then just sort of walk through the front door. They play it like Tyler is bringing Logan and his pack in for punishment for the crime of "stealing" Carmen and are all allowed to walk right in. I didn't understand why Tyler wasn't public enemy #1, when Henry had apparently figured out that he was working against his king. So. Many. Plot Holes.

Then they find the room where Carmen is being held and attack Henry. Jaxson is given the task of spiriting Carmen away while the others fight. He does this, taking her to Tyler's house...and they immediately have sex. Apparently the pheromones are just too strong and Carmen needs that wolf cock right now! So, while all the people she supposedly cares about are in a fight for their life, she's catching a dick. Nice.

One weird thing, though, is that Jaxson right away bites Carmen on the neck, thereby making her an official member of his pack, which is allegedly Logan's pack now. And I was just so confused about how this world worked. First, Tyler didn't have to do ANYTHING to become part of Logan's pack? Really? No blood ritual or something? No? He can just say it verbally and magically it happens?

Second, no where in the story were we told that Logan or his pack had bitten Carmen, so as far as we know, they never did. Why? What were they waiting for? And third, if it's true that Carmen hadn't actually been marked, shouldn't it be Logan, the pack leader, who does so first? Here Jaxson just does it with no permission or even a thought about Logan, his alleged pack leader. Near the end of the story this happens again, with Tyler marking her and Logan never seems to care. What are the rules for this marking business?

Anyway, Tyler and Logan manage to kill Henry but there's never any discussion about who would take over as the king. And they were allowed to leave after killing their king like it was no big deal and just keep living in Tyler's mansion on the compound for weeks afterward. HOW?? And why was Tyler even working as a guard for Henry in the first place if his family was so loaded? None of this makes sense!

The story wraps up with the baby's delivery and everyone is over the moon. Carmen was a real wimp about giving birth, I might add. Very whiny and complainy. Also, the author clearly has no idea how giving birth works since both in this book, and the next one I read by her, she has the woman's water breaking half a second after the first contraction is felt. That's not how that works in real life.

Overall, the story just lacked in the plot department. I totally didn't understand Tyler and his thought processes. Every time he dumped her, he said it was to protect her, but it clearly wasn't working since Henry was still after her. And then he tried to claim her publicly, only to wimp out at the crucial moment. What a loser.

And I really didn't understand how marking worked at all since Logan apparently never marked Carmen even after she was pregnant with his pack's child.

The men were all pretty forgettable too. Poor Axel was completely irrelevant to the story. He only got to sleep with Carmen once at the very end of the book, and that was a group event with other guys joining in. Griffin and Talon were completely interchangeable. And Jaxson was a much, much better hero than Tyler or Logan for that matter. Tyler just kept rejecting her for poorly established reasons. And Logan, despite his claims of being in love with her, just seemed like more of a friendship character than a heartthrob hero. Jaxson, though, was loud and proud about wanting Carmen for his Omega and being willing to fight anyone who tried to take her away.

Can't recommend, overall, but it's got plenty of steam if that's what you're into.

Das ist das beste Layla Sparks Buch, dass ich bis jetzt gelesen habe.
Carmen war mir von Anfang an sympathisch und ich war wahnsinnig gespannt, wie sich ihre Geschichte nach Ruby’s Flucht (im vorherigen Band) entwickeln würde. Trotz einer etwas anderen Vorstellung von meiner Seite wurde ich nicht enttäuscht. Der rote Faden des Plots war zwar relativ rasch vorhersehbar, was ich aber als nicht störend empfunden habe. Auf der einen Seite Logan’s Pack mit Griffin und Talon und auf der anderen Seite Taylor’s Pack mit Jaxon und Axel, der eine Alpha der beste Freund und der andere Alpha Carmen’s bestimmter Schicksalsgefährte, wie hätte dies nicht zu einer Packvereinigung führen sollen. Wobei es mich dann doch überrascht hat, dass sich der dominante Taylor dem sanftmütige Logan als Packleader untergeordnet hat. Hatte ich so nicht erwartet.
Punkteabzug gibt es eindeutig für Taylor’s wiederholte Zurückweisungen Carmen gegenüber. Da hat die Autorin den Bogen etwas überspannt, weil irgendwann ist dann ja auch mal gut. Dazu kommt leider auch, dass bei einer Packzusammenstellung in dieser Größe dann doch immer der ein oder andere Charakter darunter leidet. Man kann auf 7 verschiedene Personen eben einfach nicht so detailreich eingehen, und in dieser Story blieben eindeutig Talon und insbesondere Axel im Schatten. Allerdings haben mich die anderen dafür umso mehr überzeugt und neben Charmen waren eindeutig Logan, Jaxon und Griffin meine Lieblingscharaktere. Im letzten Drittel des Buches hat sich dann auch Carmen’s Schwangerschaft endlos angefühlt und dadurch einen etwas faden Beigeschmack bei mir hinterlassen.
Trotz der Kritikpunkte gibt’s von mir 4 Sterne für diese Story, weil ich Carmen selbst sowie die Story mit der Vereinigung ihrer Packs einfach mochte.

A great, double spicy addition to the series!

Finally! It was about time to find out what fate had in store for Carmen, who we met in the previous book. I had a feeling that her story would be super hot and interesting and – well – it certainly was!

Long story short – Carmen was rejected by her true mate, Tyler, four years ago. It was brutal and left her scarred. Tyler never told the rest of his packmates (Jaxon and Axel) that he had found his true mate and rejected her. In his mind, he did the right thing for HER protection. However, somehow Carmen got the attention of Henry, the general Alpha leader to whom every Alpha pack has to answer to and the one Tyler works for. She is in a tough spot, so her best friend, Logan, decides to fake announce her as his pack’s choice as an omega, to throw Henry off. His packmates, Griffin and Talon, like Carmen, so they take her to another location to “court” her, away from Henry. After a rollercoaster of events, however, she finds herself mated to Tyler’s pack and gets rejected for the second time, only to flee to the trusted hands of her best friend’s pack. Henry’s pursue turns dangerous and Tyler and Logan’s packs need to get over themselves and be united in order to save – and claim for good – their Carmen. Will they be able to? Will Carmen forgive Tyler? How will the rest of the pack members react to everything? I truly couldn’t put the book down till the very last page. 4.5 stars.

Tyler cruelly rejected Carmen who thought she had a future with him when they were younger. She not looking for an Alpha, she is happy with her childminding business.

That's until she comes onto the radar of Henry, the Alpha of all Alphas, someone she doesn't like and she could end up having no say if he decides he wants her as his omega.

Her best friend Logan and his packmates Griffin and Talon come to her aid when she gets invited to Henry's mansion for a party. Her friend pretends to be interested in becoming a family unit with Carmen.

Tyler, who works for Henry with his packmates Axel and Jaxon in security, is jealous when he sees Carmen with other alphas and is also targeted by Henry. He walked away once from Carmen, can he walk away again?

The story covers Carmen's love for Tyler which has never stopped. Her fear of being mated by Henry and can her friendship with Logan turn into something deeper. Is she willing to lose a friend to gain a lover?

new beginnings

Denied by The Alphas is book three in the series Dawn of The Alphas by author Layla Sparks. So this one is full of many intriguing issues- betrayal- abandonment- kidnapping- love and so much more. So there’s a really bad alpha and he rules with a demented fist. There are some willing to stand up to him but very few. A few try in their own way which causes more issues from them and the one they love. Crazy right. It’s a bit of a whirlwind of a tale. Lots of obstacles- opportunities and spice.

A complex tale of an omega who was rejected by her mate several years before. Now she owns her own business but finds herself being pursued by the “head” alpha. Enter her best friend and his pack and the return of her mate and his pack. Lots and lots of heat, some violence and threats of violence appear throughout the story.

This book was good it's about a rejected omega from her mate, but she can't figure out why, and he can't seem to leave her alone. The head of the head of the alphas is trying to tKe her, but her mate rejected her with his other 2 alphas, and they don't know anything about it. So she goes to her best friend to sneak her out of the compound with the other 2 pack members. When her mate follows her. This has a lot of sex scenes with 6 alphas and the girl goes through a lot of pain just to belong.

This book was kind of disappointing. First that fact that he promised her he wouldn’t reject her again and then did like not even five minutes later is annoying. Like really. He would say the same things over and over. Also the fated mates part was weird and didn’t completely make sense. The smut was good. Not my favorite book in the series. Was a little bit of a struggle to finished. 2/5

Was this book great? No. Was it exactly what I needed to get over my mini book slump? Yes!

I definitely needed a little alpha omega palette cleanser to get over my last two impeccable reads and this story definitely delivered🥵🥵

It was such an unserious serious story that had me kicking me feet and saying out loud “why does he expect her to forgive him?!?” “WTF is the matter with this man!!!”😩😩

Like I NEED to calm down it wasn’t all that😅but nonetheless such a good breather book😚

Okay, short read.

Facebook was different than our other folks. I'm not sure it was a-okay book. It was a short read, all of her books are, so it was, you know, everything kind of thrown in there. Altogether, I'm not sure I like her increasing the bond. I mean, 6 of them was a bit much, because I just don't see how that's physically possible. But other than that, it was a-okay read.

Layla Sparks did a great job on this story, the plot and characters were written well, Carmen was a fighter, she's been through a lot in her life, she had many ups and downs, she was strong and the connection she has with her mates was off the charts, it was strong, their chemistry was off the charts, it was steamy. I enjoyed this story, it was great.

6 guys who bang an omega
All the guys are the same. No one stands out. It's disappointing. I wanted so much more, like a good story.

Tyler was a jerk who strung Carmen along. Then when she was in danger he was moseying around not concerned at all. For someone who wants to protect her he sure dicked around.

The mention of Camerons story from the previous book’s instantly made me curious cause what on earth would make a alpha reject his mate especially since she’s such a good person and loyal friend but this book delivered all the answers to my questions and more! I love Layla's work; she creates amazing main female characters (MFC) and her alphas are sometimes damaged and broken, yet so well written. Then there are the other men in her stories, the ones who heal the MFC and provide much-needed balance to the other male main characters (MMC). I love the dynamics!

I like this author and eventhought i did enjoy this book i don’t think is the best thing she has created.
I hated how someone who is known for abusing his power has fans that are female. I have said it and i will say it again NO PERSON SHOULD HOLD ALL THE POWER.
I really enjoyed the fact that she didn’t forget thaaaat easily, i mean i get it why he did what he did but some groveling never hurts.

Not one of my favorites

I have read many books by this Author and this one fell short for me. It seemed rushed. You didn't get but 3 POVs I think. At one point it says she's not pregnant, then in the next chapter she is 7 months along. The time jump didn't make since. Hopefully the next book will be better.

How anyone can give this 4/5 ⭐ I'll never know. There is absolutely no character development, no explanation of the compound and the world and the dialogue between them all made me cringe. This book is basically just smut scenes but cringy smut. It all felt really juvenile.

A woman, at seven months pregnant, is unable to lay on her front to receive a back massage. 'Nuff said.

All smut not really much of a plot development. But the plot could’ve been good if we had more characters development of all the characters. We really didn’t get much of Logan pov even though he was a male alpha.

This read very much like a wattpad book. Some of it was very repetitive and rushed. Wish it had a bit more to the plot instead of just Tyler consistently rejecting her then her forgiving him immediately
