" Has No Kinsman is an amazing exploration of the soul of all that is abstract and yet is more real for it. Kim’s language is supple, sensual and these poems are emblematic." ―Chris Abani
A combination of landscape- and ekphrastic-driven poems, lyrical and associative. The ekphrastics strike me as more lively, dynamic, and language-driven than the typical ekphrastic, and therefore I really enjoyed them when I often don't really love that form. There's an atmosphere of starkness, yet the language, images and situations are so rich and complicated. Burwick leaves just enough left unsaid to create space for you, but not so much that you'll fall through or get lost.
I love this book.
(I will add, though, that the physical shape of this book is somewhat unwieldy. Wish an e-version was available!)
