The Obsidian Blade #2

A Fate of Flames & Fury

Rate this book
Amira could never have anticipated the turn her life would take after that fateful day in Medlar that first led her to Solaris. Yet after a harrowing attempt on her life, and before the pangs of loss and betrayal could fully fade, Amira finds herself whisked away from Solaris in the arms of a handsome, winged Fae to an unfamiliar Obsidian. In order to survive this new unknown, Amira desperately clings to what she has learned—the mind and the heart are easily deceived whenever magic is involved.

With heartbreak and hatred shaping her path, Amira arrives to Obsidian fueled by a desire to avenge those she has lost and with a resolve to return to the family she left behind. However, she quickly finds herself embroiled in an interdimensional conflict that requires her to form alliances with a particularly annoying High Fae King and the court that wheedled their way into her fractured heart.

After surviving Solaris and a love that almost destroyed her, Amira must learn to not only trust others but face her hardest challenge yet—learning to trust in herself.

This was a strong book 2! Amira… my girl…. She has been through it and I love her unwavering strength for the people she loves. I got all my favorite tropes wrapped into one. I don’t want to spoil but I love that MMC always lets Amira have a choice and doesn’t control her.

Tropes:
✨ protective shadow daddy
✨”who did this to you?”
✨one bed at the inn
✨found family

I’m so excited for how this trilogy will play out and thank you to the author for not leaving me on an insane cliffhanger. Don’t get me wrong those last 20 pages had me clutching my pearls!

This book was a vibe

ARC REVIEW: A Fate of Flames & Fury
(The Obsidian Blade Series Book 2) by O'Junea Brown

Thank you Meg Opalescent for a copy

I had the opportunity to read this as a Arc and it was great seeing these characters again and I would like to say Thane can kiss my ass lol. Amira you are still that girl and I loved to see her character development and how everyone worked together to fight for the people they love. I loved the Pegasus scene, loved meeting Thane's other sister and the dynamics of the guards and their personality chef's kiss.

And though Thane has irritated me to no ends his chemistry with Amira is spicy but sir I will fight you.

O'Junea I still wanna fight you for that ending but book 3 will help me to heal please and thank you

✨For the girls that felt unwanted. For the girls that felt like they didn’t fit in. For the girls that felt judged on every little thing they said or did. For the girls that felt less than everyone else. For the girls that didn’t realize their worth until a little later in life.

This one is for you.

💜Absolutely in love! If you have not had a chance to dive into this world, I can’t recommend enough that you do! This dark romantasy series is full of twists and turns, banter, good family, inner strength, and all of the burn it down vibes!

✨Not only is the story incredible, but look at these covers?! GORGEOUS!! Both A Fate of Onyx and Ivory and the newly released A Fate of Flames and Fury are available on Kindle Unlimited. Full review to follow.

ARC REVIEW: A Fate of Flames & Fury
(The Obsidian Blade Series Book 2) by O'Junea Brown

Thank you Meg Opalescent for the ARC copy!

5⭐️: Ouuuu, I really did enjoy this book. I believe there is 1 more book to come in this series, but I am not sure. With how book 2 ended, the story needs to continue.

The energy and chemistry between Thane and Amira! My goodness.... it is fire!

The story literally picks right back up from where the first book ended. I personally would have loved, a small little recap of book 1, in the beginning of this book. But luckily enough, it was easy to jump right back into the story, a few chapters in.

Great fast paced book! Great balance between action and intimate scenes. Great read!

Whoa 🤯 Enemies to lovers on a whole different level!

Amira’s gone and gotten herself kidnapped again—but this time, it might actually be for the best. Even though the last time nearly broke her, this new chapter comes with freedom from Raine and his henchman Eryx… and some major life choices.

Secrets that have been buried deep are starting to unravel, and Amira is doing everything she can to hold it together. But that’s easier said than done—especially when one of her so-called rescuers seems to hate her simply for existing. And y’all… they hate each other so good. To the point where you’re not sure if it’s a slow burn romance or a murder plot in the making.

The tension? Insane. The angst? Had me drooling.

Thane is a brooding, sharp-tongued, bully of a fae male—and yes, he’s also incredibly yummy. Meanwhile, Raine? He’s lost his ever-loving mind again, and he’s raising the stakes in a way that forces Amira to choose: stay the self-sacrificing girl she’s always been, or rise up and protect her family no matter the cost.

This book serves up romance wrapped in epic fantasy, drizzled in obsession, and plated on a bed of juicy secrets. It had my heart racing from start to finish—and just when I thought it was all about to crescendo, the author hits me with a cliffhanger so wild I nearly fell out of my chair.

If you’re into epic fantasy, found family, pixies, enemies to lovers, and maybe just one Pegasus 👀—run, don’t walk.

This book gave everything it was supposed to give. And then some.

the first 50% felt like filler and it annoyed me so!

the relationship build up was almost nonexistent. it was like I hate you, but you're kinda hot. then okay fine we kissed, don't make anything of it. from there it's we fucking and once we do you're mine. I needed more focus on the romance for it to feel less insta-lovey.

I was entertained so I feel like my time was respected. Hopefully when book 3 comes there's more time spent filling out their relationship and less time spent introducing new side quests and stories for side characters even though the obligatory war is on the horizon. (okay one side story is fine. since a particular side character had an interesting revelation in the end and that side story/quest would probably be integral to the main story of book 3. guess I see...)

A good read but……

I enjoy the character building in this series. However, I HATE a whiny heroine. I get that Amira is coming into her own, but the self sacrificing, low esteem, tough exterior/soft interior gets old quick. Like girl, I need to see some growth or SOMETHING. I have DNF’d books for less. The only saving grace was overall O’Junea writes well.

eArc Review:

A Fate of Flames & Fury picks up immediately after A Fate of Onyx & Ivory where we find Amira adjusting to yet another new realm, Obsidian. In shock after her rescue but still carrying the loss of two friends, it's all she can do to stay focused to ensure the life of another friend, Raya, is saved and to make it back to her family before they're put in danger.

This book will have readers locked in from page one. There's action, fighting, fae realms, (dark) magic and high stakes. With just the right amount of rising romantic tension between Thane and Amira. He's incredibly handsome, broody and a powerful fae king; what's there not to drool over? But he's cocky, snarky and rude and to see Amira not even battling an eye to put him in his place every time gave me life lol. I loved how Amira's reaction to Thane's prickliness was to be snarky right back at him lol. Their chemistry and interactions were spot on.

Even though Amira learns so much about herself in this book and is set on a mission to make sure her family is protected, I got the sense that this fierceness and protective side was already engraved within her character. And A Fate of Flames and Fury is the journey about her unlocking her full potential. And as obnoxious and cocky as he is, Thane's actions end up proving that he's her biggest supporter.

When I read the synopsis for A Fate of Flames & Fury and jumped at the chance to read the arc. The series and author are both new to me and I had so much fun reading this book. There were details from book one that are covered in this book but it didn't hinder my anger or disgust for Raine and his malice. And book two was so good and gives readers a real sense of Amira's character journey into this stronger version of herself. Amira is strong willed, observant, smart and kind.

Even with the events that led her to Obsidian, there is still a lightness about her. It takes a strong sense of self to still hold pieces of your personality intact after everything Raine puts her through. She loves her family and friends deeply. And will do anything to fight for and protect them--even at the risk of herself. Even with his brooding and snarky attitude I could tell that Thane's character almost mirrored Amira in a way. Devoted to those around him. A protector who took his promises and responsibilities seriously. I love when character chemistry works so well in a story.

There's a lot of plot twists and secrets that are revealed in A Fate of Flames & Fury and there's a reveal at the end linked to Solaris and Raya that makes me excited for the next book. If I had any cons about my reading experiences, it would be that I didn't think there were enough spicy scenes. Those who are not new to my reviews know that I don't really do YA books anymore. And I feel this story rests between New Adult and (almost) YA, but all the characters have a level of maturity and emotional intelligence that counteracts this.

I recommend this book and series to other fantasy, romantasy and dark romantasy readers. I look forward to the next book.

I really enjoyed this book! It was great a second book to the series. I love a good winged shadow daddy! Going to warn you now, it does end on a cliff hanger but not as bad as a cliff hanger as the first book (thank goodness). I love that Amira was really able to be herself in this book. You also get to see her mature and grow. She can be head strong. She’s act first, think later for sure but by the end of the book she is really able to know when to pick her battles and know when to take others advice. Thane was everything I was hoping he would be, especially when things start to come together. I love the MC’s but I am so interested in the side characters and that includes Atlas and Thackeray. There is just so many little things with them that keep piquing my interest and some questions that I had did get answered by the end of the book. So that was nice. The only reasons why I didn’t give this a full 5 stars was because there was one phrase that I felt was over used and the MC’s the first half of the book made me want to scream. I wouldn’t call it the miscommunication trope. It was like it was enemies to lovers almost but it was one sided on the enemies. Can’t wait to what’s to come! Low key hoping for more of Nora’s backstory and Athena’s as well. I have so many theories and questions but I will patiently wait to find out how it all plays out.

The way I couldn't WAIT for this book to come out!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fell in love with the first book. I loved the mystery of the first book...trying to figure out the secrets that were being hidden from Amira. The ending to the first book had my jaw on the floor and I wasn't able to pick it back up until this second book and I was NOT disappointed!!

We pick up with our girls being flown to a new destination after being saved from the crazy fae.
Amira is trying not to fall in the same trap as she was before and is trying to get back home to save her family as well but also trying to keep her friends safe.

The way this book had my heart pounding. I loved it.
I screamed.
I cried.
I raged.

I can't wait to see what the next book in this series does because I was not prepared for the twists, secrets and reveals that happened in this book.

Amira has been through so much and has stayed her strong BA self through it all. She fights with everything she has for those she calls family.

Thane is the MMC that supports and encourages her with out smothering or handicapping her.

This has all my favorite tropes:

🗡 Found Family
🗡 Protective MMC
🗡 Supportive MMC
🗡 Strong FMC
🗡 Touch Her and☠

It took about the first 1/3 for me to really get hooked but after that I could not put it down. The action scenes are vividly described and so emotional engaging that my heart was pounding at time. There were also moments that I could not breath until I know exactly what happened to some of my favorite characters.

Now to try and be patient for book to find out the rest of the answers.

You need this series on you bookshelf!!!

Tropes:
* Fae, humans, & witches
* Friendship and sisterhood
* Shadow daddy
* Found family
* Touch her and d*e

Favorite Quotes:

“Tell me that you want this.”

My thoughts:
The characters in A Fate of Flames & Fury are dynamic and lovable- well some of them we love to hate. MMC Thane is so grumpy and moody but for all the right reasons? FMC Amira endures so much, finds out A LOT about herself, and perseveres through it all. The side characters are hilarious and have true family dynamic. A slow burn with high pay off is what we all love amiright? There was some hate filled banter, there was tension, there was action, there was steam. It ends on a cliff hanger. There is also a plot twist that i did not see coming that i loved SO MUCH!

This book had me hooked from the first page to the last! After the chaos of Solaris, Amira’s journey to Obsidian is full of emotional growth, unexpected alliances, and slow-burning tension that simmers with magic and danger. I loved the forced proximity, enemies-to-reluctant-allies, and the grumpy x sunshine dynamic between Amira and the High Fae King. The court intrigue and layered betrayals kept the stakes high, and just when I thought I could breathe, that cliffhanger left me gasping!!!!!

Amira’s strength, heartbreak, and healing made her feel so real, and her journey is far from over. I need the next book now!

Tropes:

•Enemies to lovers
•Forced proximity
•Found family
•Grumpy x sunshine

A Worthy Sequel

I was curious where this book would go after the cliffhanger ending from the first installment, and I must say I ultimately enjoyed it. The world building was expanded, the magic system better explained, and the FMC grew over the course of the book. The romance between the FMC and MMC was also interesting, as it was something that was developed over time.

There’s also a strong found family presence in this book. I loved the way the MMC’s friends and family came to support the FMC and show her she wasn’t alone. The main pull of this book though, is watching the FMC learn to trust herself after suffering a major betrayal in the first book of this series. If you like romantasy and want to read one featuring a Black FMC, this is worth a pickup.

I was able to read both a Fate and Onyx and Ivory and a Fate of Flames & Fury and absoutely loved the dynamics of how Amira was written and she you saw the girl who believe she was the black sheep of her family but in reality she had supernatural abilities that were lying dormant until a certain dark magic fae male named Thane came into her life. Thane was definitely a butthole at the beginning of the story but he made up for it at the end. I love a good romantasy book especially with a black fmc and I enjoyed book 1 and 2. I am crossing my fingers to see if Ms. Brown will write Book 3 but if not then I'm glad she invited us into the world of Solaris and Obsidian. Thank you O'Junea Brown for writing this fantastic series about a complicated but dynamic fmc.

Wow! After an intense cliffhanger and plot twist in Book 1 this book seamlessly continued Amira’s in Obsidian. First Raine, now Thane, and I’m all for it. Broody assholes left and right but I’m all for it! This cliffhanger isn’t as intense as the last one but leaves sooooo many questions that I didn’t originally have. This is definitely an enemies to lovers, relatively slow-burn story - like 60% of the way into the book. This book is all about discovering herself and learning to trust others and herself. I cannot wait for the next book!!

When I tell y'all Amira is THAT GIRL 🙌
She goes through so much but she'll be damned if she lets anything stop her from accomplishing what she sets out to do. The chemistry between her and Thane is *chefs kiss* but boy do you want to slap him a time or two (typical man, right?)
The stakes are high in book 2 and there is tension galore. If you love fantasy books with big plot twists, emotionally intelligent characters, action and a badass FMC who is coming in to her own... be sure to check this series out! I don't want to give too many details away because I'm bad about spoiling things 🤣

I’m not gonna lie. This just inspired me so much to continue writing my own damn fantasy book and I’m nowhere near the goal that I’ve set for myself. Like everything about this was insanely good! I was hooked the entire time, I had no room for error, no room for mistakes, and definitely no room to be reading this in public LMAO. This had me on the edge of my seat and that cliffhanger?! I need book 3 like yesterday.

Outstanding!!!

This book is phenomenal! The author continued to weave many twist and turns into story that kept me captive. But, the surprise in the end had me sitting up not wanting the book to end. Amira finally realizes that she is a force to be reckon with. I cannot wait for the next book! Well Done Ms. Brown!!

When you thought it couldn't get better...

This one was even better than the 1st. I just know there needs to be a 3rd book y'all! Excitement, sorrow, frustration, laughter all piled in one fantasy book. I don't want to give anything away but I could already tell a few parts from the details of the 1st book. Read both books, you will be be disappointed.

I absolutely loved seeing Amira’s growth in this book and I also loved seeing the dynamic change between her and her siblings. We got to know so many of the character’s more in this book and the spice…chef’s kiss. I’m so glad I got to jump right into this book after the crazy cliffhanger from the first! I can’t wait to see where the rest of this series goes

Overall it was alright. The pacing was better in this one, and though there were moments of wordiness and incorrect word use, it wasn't as irritating as the first book. The MFC was still illogically dense, and self-deprecating, and some of the story made no sense. The last few chapters were the best, similar to the first book, even though some parts elicited a heavy "wtf" eyeroll
