Some memories are better forgotten. Serena Vale, a magazine editor with a small but burning dream to publish her first to be seen, to be believed, and maybe to heal. She can’t always tell what’s real and what’s imagined, a blur that fuels her bestselling thrillers, but stems from a childhood shadowed by doubt.
Some truths are better hidden. At nine, she witnessed something traumatic, yet no one her mother, or anyone believed her. Left alone with her memories, Serena spent years questioning if she actually saw what she saw, blurring the line between reality and imagination.
Some words are better not written. Her debut explodes in popularity, driven by the dangerous, magnetic character she Blake Kane, a Mafia leader adored by fans. But fiction becomes reality when Blake Kane shows up at her door every detail exactly as she the hair, the scar, the presence. Only he’s not the Mafia boss from her book. He’s an undercover police officer, furious and determined to protect a mission her book exposed.
Suddenly, Blake Kane isn’t just fiction. Serena’s life, her books, her world. they’re all in danger. And now she must navigate a reality where imagination has come to life, and every choice could have deadly consequences. She wrote him into existence and now she’s trapped in his universe.
I had a good time while reading this because I've not come across a plot like this. An author writing about something she saw and no one actually believed it. FMC is so brave to do something like that. Well, she lives up to her Nickname by the way. It was a very easy read. I enjoyed it but the writing style didn't really stick out to me, I felt like something was missing. But overall it was okay. 💗
I had the opportunity to read this book as an ARC and I am so grateful for that!
This book was interesting to review in my opinion because there were several parts i enjoyed, but also parts I didn’t. This book definitely requires more editing as there are many spelling/grammar mistakes and repetitive parts.
Because of that, it was difficult at times to read, however, I could still get a good idea of the story.
The storyline was very interesting and has a lot of potential! There were some lovely moments between the two mc’s and side characters.
If this book is edited more I think it could be very good!
Again thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book and I hope the review is helpful! Xx
Firstly, thank you so much for sending me the eBook for your debut novel, I really appreciate it! That said, as always, I try my best to be honest and transparent in my reviews. 💬
I really wanted to love this book. The plot? Was so interesting. The concept felt fresh and unique but unfortunately, the execution didn’t land for me the way I hoped it would.
The biggest issue was the pacing. It felt too fast, like we were skipping through the story without getting the time to connect to what was happening. One chapter would end, and by the next, I wasn’t quite sure what the last one had actually explored, it just didn’t stick. I wish it had more depth, more build-up, more development... because the potential was *definitely* there.
As for the romance, I really wanted to see the love story bloom between Blake and Serena, but it felt a little unrealistic for such a powerful love to form in under 23 chapters with minimal interaction. Their connection needed more substance, more time, more tension. Instead, it felt rushed and surface-level.
But the plot? Genuinely intriguing. Lawless Game of Lies follows Serena, a rising debut author whose book becomes a New York Times bestseller. The MMC in her story goes viral, readers become obsessed with him. But soon, Serena finds herself in the middle of a real-world dilemma: a *real* man, a cop working undercover, shares the exact same name as her fictional MMC. And now his entire career is at risk.
There’s mystery. There’s romance. I could definitely see that you had a unique vision, I just wish the execution had slowed down and gone deeper.
That said, I’m still glad I read this debut. It was a creative, ambitious idea, and I’ll definitely stick around to see what you do next. 🌟
Lawless Game of Lies by Maeven Vox Serena Vale wrote her first novel and published it, becoming a New York Times bestseller. Blake Kane, who Serena has no clue who he is, shows up demanding she remove the book from selling. She stood her ground and left it out there for the world to enjoy, only to realize she wrote a real-life story, and this created havoc with her own and lives around her. Those she thought she could trust are the enemies. She's not sure what's true and what's a lie anymore. This brought a lot of turmoil in her own life and will take you on a whirlwind. This is Maeven Vox's first novel, and I personally feel they added a wonderful book for others to read. This does need some more editing done, but like a said, it's still a great story. Thank you to Maeven Vox for providing this book for an honest review. all opinions are those of my own.
An intense mafia thriller romance that had me hooked from page one.
He's a sarge, she's an author.
She wrote a character and he came to be a real person.
A tough guy, but a pookie just for her? Check. Cute romance? Check. Crazy thrill? Check. Female friendship to die for? Check. Feline friends? Check!
Between heart-stopping action and lines like “She’s going to be the death of me” (!!!) and the cutest nickname “trouble,” I was giggling and literally kicking my feet in the air.
I love love love the MMC. He's literally so perfect, the perfect book boyfriend 💕
