She promised her boss she wouldn’t fall in love with a client. Her vampire had other ideas…

Darla
After years of being separated from my big sister, a job working with her at Sapphic Security sounds like a great way to reconnect. I’ve finished my probationary period and am ready for my first solo bodyguard for a doctor who stumbled onto something that could get her killed. Using my medical training from the military, I go undercover as Dr. O’Brian’s new medical assistant. There’s just one the curvy human doctor is my fated mate, and my vampire’s obsession with making her mine is distracting me from my mission.

Kathryn
They say curiosity killed the cat and if I’m not careful, it’s going to kill the doctor too. The drug trial my friend is taking part in here at the hospital is not what it seems. Our lead researcher is conducting illegal experiments for some people with deep pockets, and they are determined to stop me from finding out the truth. When I hire a bodyguard, I’m not expecting someone like Darla. She’s smart, tough, beautiful – and not quite human. The more time we spend together, the more I’m convinced that she’s the woman I’ve been waiting for my whole life. But am I just a job to her?

They’re destined to end up together – if they can just stay alive…

Meh. I think I'm done with this series. Interesting premise (medical/science) and some fun humor in a few spots (you can always count on Lois). The fated mates relationship was kind of boring and dealt with in a very surface manner. No angst, low conflict, no new wrinkles or interesting dynamics. The sexy times were pretty boring (please don't mention a strap unless you intend to use it) and unimaginative. Finally, the editing errors were just sloppy. A rush to finish? Complete the final draft at 6am so you can submit at deadline? "Bella, Cassie, Martha and my sister had all gotten suckered into taking [a kitten]." Newsflash Darla: Bella IS your sister. And in the Epilogue there's a sudden jump from Darla telling the story to Kathryn telling the story. A number of other misnamed characters, characters in one place suddenly show up at another, lack of continuity and consistency particularly toward the end. It just gave me a headache. Reader's deserve a better finished product.

Funny, fast-paced but with some angst, and with atypical vampires and shifters. I like the consistency with each book, even if they can all be read separately. As a writer and author, I can appreciate the difficulty in trying to find places for all these other characters from past works. Finding different ways to work a few past characters into a separate work takes consistency and world-building. I would like to see a Fae being explored in the future in the series.

Guarding the Doctor is another entry in the Sapphic Security series. In this installment, vampire bodyguard Darla attempts to protect human doctor Kathryn. They are surrounded by a familiar, and ever growing, cast of supporting characters. True to form, the human client turns out to be less helpless than anticipated. No new ground, but this is another decent, low angst, tale with the expected happily ever after.

I enjoyed this one mostly. I thought I'd was a little under par compared to some of the others in this series, it almost seemed Reba was a but jaded with the story at the beginning but it definitely improved as it went on. Excellent ending and some nice touches, But I was fun as always, a little heat and humour. Overall a good story.

sapphic security

The books in this series are spicy action romances. Guarding the Doctor did not disappoint. Reba Bale has created a cast of characters that you cheer for as they find their mates.

4 stars. Very cute installment to the series. I liked Darla and Kathryn a lot and I thought their romance was adorable. I also liked that even though Darla is a vampire and Kathryn's bodyguard, it was Kathryn who ended up saving the day in the end. That was a nice switch up. Fun read.

Another great one.

Darla meeting her fated mate the same way as all the others working at the company.

Kathryn unknowingly became a target when she stumbled onto a lab doing illegal testing. But at least she met her mate through it all.
