What could be worse than struggling to live in a world where hungry undead and murderous villains seek to bring death or something worse to the living? George Burns is a 20-something young man on a quest to save the innocent, himself, his soul, and he's about to discover precisely what could be worse. His path will be much more than merely treacherous as he visits a town called Charenton. It was once a quiet, peaceful, quaint place but now everyone but George knows that the town's plethora of perils pale in comparison to Twisto the Clown. Self proclaimed ruler of the fairgrounds located on the outskirts of Charenton, Twisto and his band of psychotic followers are always happy to invite survivors to partake of their version of Southern Comfort. The only problem is they're not very keen on letting visitors leave.
In the little town of Charenton Louisiana the ruler may be a clown but very few survivors are laughing.
I'm a big fan of Bebb's stories. I've yet to be disappointed with his work and find a hopeful pleading in my head as I read through. I've read many stories of suspense and/or zombie outbreaks and I do not find the dark, hopeless stories as endearing. Twisto's Town is no different from other stories of Bebb's creation that have at least one character that I would not have guessed to leave such a lasting impression on me. These may be too much of a spoiler for some, so be warned:
Sir Don Cato of Bayonne:
Others, without trying to spoil, are Jasper and Sgt. Pyle.
These characters specifically talk to me with the premise that no matter how bad things were in your past, or how your present is nothing more than a sink hole of muck, you can still do the right thing. You can go out like Samson, destroying the evil within yourself and within the walls of a depraved community, all while calling on God to grant you the strength to finish the task.
I like Bebb's work, but to be honest I keep losing interest in this one and have been taking breaks to read other books. All of his books ramble some, but this one seems to keep getting sidetracked more than the previous ones. I am 60% thru and Twisto hasn't even made an appearance yet... I will update this review once I get back to this book, I think I'll read at least a couple others in the meantime.
George is still looking for redemption will he find it? William Beds writes great stories the characters are well fleshed out and I love in this one the sayings as one I use often appears in this on had to smile " shit fire save the matches " this is one of his best the ending so so will be waiting for the next one for sure I give this one a 8 star review
