I spent most of this book clutching my non existent pearls. It we didn’t get the male POVs I’m not sure I would find them remotely redeemable - well, maybe Arrow, maybeeee.
This is a very dark romance with cult/commune elements. Primal hunts. Masked men (like, animal masks) and a male power element that will make your feminist heart explode with hatred and anger. And. It. Was. So. Good.
I have loads of questions and I’m hoping they’ll be answered in the next one. But this book delivered plot, spice, anticipation, and little nuggets of information. 10/10 would recommend.
I absolutely love everything about Hysteria Rises. I have always been intrigued by cults, so having a book about one was super cool. I loved all of the characters' different personalities and seeing the relationships form between the guys and Delilah.
Everything about this book was intriguing to me and made me want to continue reading. I need to know more. I have so many thoughts and theories in my brain about what has happened or what is going to happen. That is the one thing about this author's books, they always make me want more and become obsessed.
If you like dark romance with cults, why choose, and guys who sometimes do bad things, then this book/series is for you.
I'm HOOKED! Going to need the rest STAT 🙏! That cliffhanger 🤬!!
This book is much darker than her previous series, but it's still got that Leila James core.
The strong FMC...who is PUT THROUGH IT. SA, extreme misogyny, all of the abuse, but still has a "Spitfire" 😉 soul. Leila's FMC's are survivors. The broken boys who are drawn to the FMC, and some to each other as well 🥵. despite their best efforts to be total fkwads. The broken boys who try to hide the fact they are victims too, especially from themselves, following toxic "tradition", and raised *cough* brainwashed *cough* by abhorrent "men".
I need MORE. I need ALL of the answers. I need the Leila James vengeance, redemption, and some more of that consensual deliciousness 😋.
I received an ARC of this book. This review was written voluntarily, and the opinions are 100% my own.
Im not sure what to think! This is kind of a secret society but also...what! This society lives off the grid and unfortunately Delilah has fallen into this world. Not sure where she came from. So many questions. Im gonna need to read book 2 to figure out what is going on. Definitely kept me interested.
This novel is based on an extremist off-grid cult and everyone is expected to follow the leaders and their twisted rules and rituals...
As I started reading and getting into the book I honestly wasn't sure what to think except that I needed to know more! It's like one of those strange late-night TV thrillers that you can't stop watching as it pulls you further into the unsettling scenes.
Do read the trigger warnings and make sure you're OK with them. And do give the book some time to get into. There's a lot of mystery surrounding the cult and how Delilah ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The characters are being built as they are right now with only a few hints of the past, just enough to see their role in the cult and how the eldest sons - Hayze, Cross, Arrow and Malakai are being groomed to run it. All but Malakai know no different.
The end is a brutal cliffhanger which has left me desperate for the next release!
"Spitfire, I hate to tell you, but this is only the beginning."
If you like dark and twisted and something that will keep you guessing this is definitely it.
First off, please, please, PLEASE check the trigger warnings because this book is a whole level of darker than Leila’s other books.
Now that I’ve done my due diligence, this book gripped me from the beginning and didn’t let up until the very last word. And even then I was yelling for more because in typical Leila fashion, she left us with a doozy of a cliffhanger.
I am so intrigued by these characters and this society that they live in. We learn bits and pieces about how things work and I can’t wait to find out more because I have so many questions…and theories, especially about that ending.
I devoured this book in no time and I can’t wait for the next one!
This book was soooo unlike anything I've read thus far. But, man, was it unbelievably good!
The fmc, Delilah, is stranded in the woods, trying to find her way out and back to her car, when she stumbles upon half-dressed men with animal inspired masks on. As she tries to get away, unsure of what's going on and who the men are, the men chase after her, causing her to fall down a ravine and go unconscious from hitting her head.
She's then taken during her unconscious state to their compound, where she learns, after some rather uncomfortable situations happen, that she's basically now in the clutches of a cult, one who sees women only fit to bear their offspring, be sexual play things if so desired by the men, and attend to their every need. Women are not to speak unless spoken to, they have no rights at all and they no longer have names, only numbers. The place is run by men, the founders called, The Collective, and their sons, the Firstborn, are next in line, with other generations in line after. The only way to and from the compound is a bridge over hastily unsafe, moving water.
Monthly, the women are set loose for the men to chase after and catch, a means to propagate and increase their fold. The women are meant to be submissive in all things. Delilah, who becomes known as 23, which is tattooed on her skin, is not the submissive type. She fights on every front, determined to get free. Her actions attracts the attention of the four Firstborn sons; Arrow, Hayze, Cross and Malakai. They've never seen anyone like her, and they each heavily desire her, though there's a bit of desiring going on between Cross and Malakai, too, which is forbidden.
Unfortunately, Delilah being strong-willed catches the eye of The Collective as well. But, in her time as a prisoner at the compound, she learns fighting only causes more issues. Because of her strong backbone, she's been kept from the other women, in a cage, which very much eliminates any possibility of escape. So, she makes a plan, pretending to fall in line so she's released from the cage, leading to all eyes off her so she can get free.
In the time she plans her escape, she uses the desires the Firstborn have for her to her advantage, to get them to help her however she can. It's also in that time, with the way they feel about her, they begin to see that their way of life, the rules of their society governed by The Collective, is not the way things should be. Delilah has made them see the errors in the way they live.
Don't even get me started on that cliffhanger. It had me praying for more pages to read. Lol. To say I'm invested in this series is an understatement. All was laid out perfectly, characters and plot fleshed out amazingly and EVERYTHING about this book grabbed your attention from page one, never letting you go till the last word of the book. I, honestly, can not wait for the next book! Such a fantastic read!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As always with Leila James books we start off hitting the ground running. Delilah is on the run in the woods and comes upon masked figures on the hunt. She’s kidnapped and taken to a cult compound, where the men rule and women better do as they are told.
To be honest, I’m not sure how to write this review as I’ve never read a book like this. And thats a good thing. This is book one in a 4-part Why Choose dark romance series and is just the beginning of a much bigger story with lots of complexities. We are just dabbling into the purpose and reason for this cult’s existence and just getting a handle on who each of these characters are.
James really knows how to write suspense well. I appreciate that we are shrouded in mysteries with a lot of questions about the Cult’s history, how each member came to be and where the main female character came from. The story doesn’t give anything away with over explaining past histories. That comes in time. So, as we progress, we get snippet and odds and ends here and there which keeps the story intriguing and moving along. And James is great at writing well-paced suspense.
Regarding the “romance” aspect of the dark romance…. It’s pretty much non-existent at this time. For me personally, although it is a dark romance, in order for me to read it objectively I had to shift in my brain that this is in the fiction/suspense category, as opposed to romance. At least for now. I know the romance/mutual attraction happens in the future but right now we are knee deep into the day-to-day workings of the cult. Each of the male characters are getting to know Delilah in their own way. And since she is new to the compound they are intrigued. For her part, it’s a waiting game on how she gets closer to these men, as I’m assuming trust and safety has to play into this in the future.
This is not for the faint of heart. It is dark, and the cult lifestyle adds a darker level to it. These 4 young men are knee deep in its culture so I would presume that in future books they start “seeing the light” so to speak about how depraved and unhinged this cult is. James paints an intriguing picture that makes you want to know more and yet she does a good job at making you squirm a bit from the cult atmosphere. This is the first cult-based romance book I’ve read where the cult was the center of the plot. Normally, someone has escaped the cult, or it was in their past. But you are smack dab in the middle of all of it. And it’s not pretty. This book ends in a cliffhanger and given that there are presumably 3 more books, the author is going to need those to really move this forward to a romance category.
Please check your triggers as some non-con (non-consensual) scenes can be upsetting.
Only Leila James can write an absolute masterpiece of dark romance where you are left with so many more questions than answers by the end of the book and are hanging at the edge of your seat the whole time.
I absolutely love her books and this one is no exception. It is definitely darker than other ones I have read from her but it is so well written it just pulls you right in. The first couple of chapters were kind of hard to get into but after that it really takes off. This one is surrounding a cult, so absolutely check your trigger warnings, there are definitely a lot of them.
The characters in here are so compelling, so layered, you never know what to expect from them. Any time you think you’re getting closer to figuring out what is happening, you’re thrown for a loop. The male main characters have been on this compound for a long time. For three of the four guys, they grew up there and have only ever known the collective and its ways. For Malakai, he came from outside of the compound and to say he’s not on board with the stuff they do is an understatement of epic proportions.
The FMC, Delilah has found herself up shit creek without a paddle. She was lost in the woods and then brought into a cult compound and forced to do stuff and has been through a lot while the males leading the creepy cult try to do things to have her submit.
The subject matter is super heavy and dark. The characters are morally grey for sure, except the cult leaders, of which there are three in their mid fifties who are just trash human beings.
The story and plot itself were riveting and while I think I have a twist figured out, you never know what will unfold. I need that second book and answers asap.
I honestly have never read anything like Hysteria Rises and it tripped me out! This is my first Leila James book and will absolutely not be my last.
The book started out with Delilah stumbling through the woods in the middle of the night In a thunderstorm, she’s disoriented, has no idea where she is and is looking for any hint of someone who can help….
Spotting light deeper into the forest, she stumbles onto a bizarre scene, shirtless men, wearing animal head masks in some kind of ritual…they see her and when she tries to escape, she falls, hits her head, and blacks out.
Upon waking she finds herself in a bizarre cult like compound. All young men, and their fathers who make up what is known as The Collective. What Delilah had walked into in the forest was the new moon ritual known as The Hunting. The only women within the cult, are there to serve the men, they do not speak unless told to and their motto is “I follow. I honor. I nourish. I kneel.”
Hayze, Cross, Arrow and Malakai are all sons of members of The Collective and have all taken a special interest in Delilah. But ever since entering the compound, Delilah has had no choice but to follow orders and be subjected to men’s demands, but these four men insist she can trust them….but can she?
Welcome to Dark Falls Hollow.
This did end on one hell of a cliffhanger and so I’m ready for the next book immediately. Definitely a good book, wasn’t sure at first in which way the book was heading but it does ramp up and does leave you with questions that no doubt book 2 will answer.
Well... this book is a lot darker and twisted than I expected. I've never read anything from this author before and it was suggested to me in a group so I figured I would give it a shot. So for anyone else I would highly and strongly suggest checking the TW for this book on the author's website.
But I have no trigger warnings when it comes to books so I'll read pretty much anything and I was hooked by this book. It focuses heavily on a cult/commune background and I'm always intrigued by those kind of books. Secret society types.
There is multiple character POV's with Hayze, Cross, Arrow, Malakai and Delilah. She is kidnapped and taken to the main cult compound and it gets pretty dark from that point onwards. The Collective who run the commune believe that women are there for a single purpose. “I follow. I honor. I nourish. I kneel.”
I didn't know it was going to end in a cliffhanger but it really does make me want to pick up book 2 when it's released because book 1 has left me with so many questions that need answering. I do love the creative twist that this author has created for the storyline and the confliction between the characters.
Arrow is my favorite so far but no doubt that will change in book 2. It's dark, twisted and depraved. Exactly how I love my books. Again, I'd advise checking the TW before reading this book. A well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Welcome to Dark Falls Hollow where survival isn’t guaranteed, and desire is deadly.
If you thought you were ready for this ride… you’re not. This dark, twisted, why-choose romance drops you straight into The Hunting which is a brutal ritual that Delilah accidentally crashes, putting her face-to-face with the dangerous men who rule this secretive world: Hayze, Cross, Arrow, and Malakai.
They’re powerful. Unhinged. Magnetic. And she might just be their undoing.
This book is intense, addictive, and unlike anything you’ve read. Leila James doesn’t hold back, it’s brutal, sensual, and absolutely wild from start to finish. The multiple POVs give you glimpses into the chaos, obsession, and dark power plays that make this story impossible to put down.
💀 What you’ll find inside: ⚠️ Check your triggers first 🔥 Dark why-choose energy 🩸 Cult vibes + ritual danger 💋 Enemies-to-obsession tension 🖤 Morally gray men who don’t play fair 💫 A heroine who’s more powerful than anyone expects
This is the kind of book that keeps you up until 3 a.m. whispering “just one more chapter.” The twists. The chemistry. The chaos. You’ll love every second of it.
Oh, Leila—the queen of the cliffhanger—strikes again, and she does not miss!
This book is a dark, twisted ride that had me hooked from the first page. Secrets, lies, and tangled mysteries weave through every chapter, creating a constant pull that made it impossible to put down. I have to know where this story leads, and I’m already desperate for the next book.
Hayze, Cross, Arrow, and Malakai are being shaped into full-fledged members of a cult, their lives defined by its rules and rituals. Hayze, Cross, and Arrow know nothing beyond its walls, making their doubts all the more dangerous. And then there’s Malakai—the wild card, the outsider. He’s an enigma, a mystery lurking in the shadows, and Leila teases just enough to leave me hungry for more.
I loved every unsettling, intoxicating moment of this story. The atmosphere is heavy with intrigue and unease, and Leila pulls you deeper and deeper until you’re trapped right alongside the characters. The darkness, the questions, the allure of the unknown—it’s all masterfully done.
I’m on my knees at the altar of Leila James, begging for the next book. This story owns me, and I cannot wait to uncover the secrets still hidden in the cult’s shadows.
First and foremost always check your trigger warnings. This book is on the darker side of what Leila normally writes. Just a few to point out: Cult Behaviors, kidnapping, trauma bonding, degradation, and physical assault. If those don't bother you then you are in the right place.
Hysteria Rises is the first book in the Dark Falls Hollow series. I do want to point out that it is a MMFMM.
The main female character finds herself lost in the middle of the woods when she runs into something she never expected. People. Or are they people? Was that a wolf? All she knows is that she needs to get the heck out of there but being too focused on figuring out what she is running from she trips and looses consciousness. When she wakes she finds herself somewhere she does not want to be. Will she be able to escape?
This book gave me so many WTF moments that I had a hard time putting it down. The male main characters all have something about them that draws you in to wanting to know more about them. Each one of them were born into a specific role they must play, but will their new visitor threaten those rolls?
If you love dark romance books then this is right up your ally but be warned, the cliffhanger is quite a jaw dropper.
Please note, its incredibly important to check your triggers before you read this book! The author put up a content warning list on her website. Do not go into this blind if you have triggers.
I've never read a book like this before. This was a wild roller coaster and I wasn't sure whether to grab onto the bar to steady myself or just go with the dips and whirls!
The way that Delilah stumbles into "the hunting" that is happening with the guys and the compound members made my heart stutter. I couldn't imagine falling into something like that. Then waking up like she did? Holy crap!
We get insight to Hayze, Cross, Arrow and Malakai through their various chapters. IT fascinates me but makes me want to yell at them at the same time. The way things are handled whether it be regular chores, to punishments, to conflicts of interest, there's so much to learn.
What I love though is that this is just the beginning. There's so much more to learn about these five characters and what their back story is. At the same time, I want all the books right now! I need to know all the things.
This book had my emotions all over the place, and my interest piqued. It's a heck of a ride, and so worth it.
I have to be honest, this one took me until I got 30% in until it really caught my attention and wouldn't let go. And dang!, once I got to that point, it grabbed on with both arms and legs and held on for dear life. I had a hard time putting it down. This book has a long and vast trigger warning list, and if you can get past that, well wow, welcome to the jungle!
Leila did a wonderful job creating so many absolutely amazing characters and an even crazier world for them to exist in. I felt my heart break a little for each of the 5 main characters as I read. I felt their personalities and histories flowing from the pages and couldn't help but love them all. And a shout out to all of the supporting characters Leila brought to life. Some you'll love, some you'll want to ... well, I'll let you decide that lol.
As soon as I heard Leila was writing this book, I was all in and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. It really is an amazing book that ends on one hell of a cliffhanger. Now we have to try to wait patiently for the next one?!?! I don't think that's fair. This is definitely a must read if you like dark romance and you are good with the Trigger Warning list. It's so good!
They know the consequences—but the pull toward her is stronger than the fear of correction.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review – Hysteria Rises by Leila James
Whatever Leila James put in this book should be illegal—it’s pure addiction. Hysteria Rises is dark, depraved, and completely impossible to put down.
Delilah (or 23) is this haunting mix of strength and brokenness that grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. There’s something about her that pulls you in, just like it does for Hayze, Arrow, Cross, and Malakai. They know the teachings of the Collective. They know the price of disobedience—the depth of the “corrections” that await them. And still, something about her draws them closer, even when every instinct tells them to stay away.
This book doesn’t shy away from the darkness. Read the trigger warnings—seriously. They’re not exaggerating. The cult of Dark Falls Hallow will drown you in the Kool-Aid, and you’ll fight to keep your head above water even as you crave more.
Leila James delivers everything I love about her writing—twisted, addictive, and hauntingly emotional. I feel so lucky to have been given the chance to ARC read this one, and I’ll be impatiently waiting for book two.
I love anything Leila James writes her writing style is so unique and I would love to know how she comes up with these amazing stories.
Delilah is found wandering the woods and a guy took her back to the place where he lives. He brought her down to the medical wing to be checked out. She wakes up to being examined and she freaks out. Turns out this place is not somewhere she wants to be and she is kept there. They have a ritual on the full moon that it is called the hunting which is what was happening when she was found. The haunting mix of strength and brokenness will grab hold of you and doesn’t let go. There’s something about Delilah that will pull you in, just like it does for Hayze, Arrow, Cross, and Malakai. They know the teachings of the Collective. They know the price of disobedience—the depth of the “corrections” that await them. And still, something about her draws them closer, even when every instinct tells them to stay away.
I really loved reading this book it is also a very dark book so if you can’t do dark or the trigger warnings aren’t for you then I don’t recommend this book. But if you love dark and can handle the trigger warnings then go for it.
absolutely consumed me. I went in expecting dark and twisted—and Lelia James gave me that and so much more. This book is brutal, unflinching, raw, and somehow still full of hope and defiance. Delilah (or 23, as they try to name her) is one of the strongest, most stubborn heroines I’ve read in a while. She’s thrown into this terrifying cult world that sees women as nothing more than property, and instead of breaking, she fights, claws, survives.
The world of Dark Falls Hollow is messed up in every possible way—rituals, cages, masks, “The Hunting,” all of it—and yet, I couldn’t look away. The four Firstborn—Arrow, Hayze, Cross, and Malakai—are dangerous, magnetic, and complicated as hell. You want to hate them, but Lelia writes them with so much depth that you start craving every interaction they have with Delilah. The tension is off the charts.
And that ending?? My heart was pounding. This story is dark, emotional, and addictive, the kind that leaves you shaken but begging for more. Delilah might’ve been thrown into hell, but she’s dragging every one of those men right down with her—and I am so here for it.
Leila James really didn’t hold back with this one. From the first chapter, I was pulled straight into the eerie, cult-like world of Dark Falls Hollow and I couldn’t look away. The story opens with Delilah lost in the woods, stumbling right into something she was never meant to see. What follows is a disorienting, tense, and strangely magnetic descent into a community ruled by rituals, secrecy, and control.
The writing is cinematic and heavy with atmosphere. You can practically feel the rain, the cold, and the tension in every scene. The four men Hayze, Cross, Arrow, and Malakai each bring a different kind of danger, and it’s impossible not to get tangled up in the chaos right along with Delilah.
Definitely check the trigger warnings before reading, because this one goes darker than Leila’s usual stories. But if you’re a fan of morally gray men, cult dynamics, psychological tension, and slow-burn madness with a cliffhanger that will ruin your night in the best way this is it.
I’m still thinking about that ending. I need book two now.
Let me tell you, when I first saw this book, I didn't even bother with the blurb. It was an automatic read for me. While I didn't read all the trigger warnings, I do suggest others do. I know what my limits are with dark romance, and it's not many. This is dark. It's different from other books I've read by this author. Read the triggers to make sure you are ok with them.
Delilah is in hell. She sought out much needed help and instead was kidnapped and held captive. Hayze, Cross, Arrow, and Malakai are the first born sons of a cult. Tasked with breaking down Delilah and getting her to submit to her new reality. What none of them expected was how consumed they are by her. The conflicting feelings of following orders while not liking to see the effects it has on their captive.
You guys, this book! What can I possibly say without spoiling it? My heart broke for Delilah. The absolute insanity of her new circumstances. The guys.... let's just say lots of conflicting emotions about them. I've got a theory about one of the leaders of the cult and if I'm right. Well, let's just say things can definitely get worse for our fmc.
Whoaaaa … this is one of those riveting, intensely emotional, Annd fevor inducing stories. Just remember to breathe through it! Leila’s world building is so captivating and engrossing, that I literally felt like I was getting a Birdseye view into absolutely everything around me!! Annnd Ho-ly Intense-Ville… the emotions I felt about and through these characters was like absolute whiplash, highly recommend because It’s perplexing, tumultuous, next level deranged, and Yet Endearing, thoughtful and caring!!!! (Yup!! That’s where my brain short-circuited!)🤯 Sooo with that said… This was such an extraordinary, and unnerving story. Annnd to think that this young, fiery, main female character, just stumbled into... All because of One. Wrong. Choice!! Btw…Cliffy is a total gripper – “Shocker. The Queen of Cliffy’s strikes again!! Eeekkk I’m so excited to see what happens next!!! Bring It Ms. Leila James😉 *PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!* Annd if you’re totally cool with everything, All’s I could say is…GOOD LUCK!! lol
Over the river & through the woods... but it's not to Grandma's house our mfc goes. Oh no. She could only be so lucky. When I tell you that Leila ate & left no crumbs with this banger of a book, SHE FREAKING ATE!!
From beginning to end, Hysteria Rises was all gas, no breaks, and I was completely hooked from chapter 1. I absolutely devoured this book in a matter of hours & cannot wait for Carnage Rules!
This is darker than anything Leila has written before, but if you have no triggers, I recommend going in blind. These MMC's are dark, dirty & unhinged, but there's so much more going on than meets the eye.
I always fall for the broken boys & this time around was no different - but at least I'm consistent!! I'll keep his name to myself & let YOU figure out who it is.
Without giving away any of the plot, there's only so much I can say, so just trust me & give it a read for yourself!
Thank you, Leila, for this dark & deliciously refreshing storyline! I didn’t even know I needed it, and now I must have more!!
No warm up in this book, straight into the twisted world. And the twists continue throughout the entire book leading up to a cliffhanger like no other (no surprise for those of us used to her writing style). I would definitely make sure to read the trigger warnings, because this cult centered book is nothing like Leila has written before. But if you can handle the triggers, you definitely won't regret digging into this new world.
From the sins of the fathers to the expectations and dreams of the sons, you will be cursing and hoping for a happy ending for the sons and their obsession (sorry not this book though). As you read you will be drawn into the sons facing what is instilled in them by the elders while battling with their own wants and desires. There is so much more than what appears on the surface.
As with all Leila James' books, you need to run (not walk) to read this book and then bite your nails until you get the next in the series.
Firstly I will say CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS! I’m not joking, this is dark and features ALOT of non con. It’s a lot darker than I was expecting but I couldn’t stop reading it.
Delilah is lost in the wilderness and finds herself stumbling into something she shouldn’t. This poor girl has no idea what she’s about to go through. It’s not long until she realises she’s being held captive by an off the grid community/cult.
You really feel for Delilah throughout this book, she does her best to stay strong and fight back against the men running the community but it’s tough. Hayze, Cross, Arrow and Malakai are the sons of the cult leaders and each are drawn to her in their own way.
There’s so much more to uncover, I can’t wait for book 2 especially after that cliff hanger!
If your looking for romance you won’t find it here lol It’s a tough read at times but it’s so good!! Maybe we’ll get more romance in book 2.
Hysteria Rises is the first book in this new series and I'm still trying to wrap my head around what is going on!!! I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this story but all I can say is.......be sure to heed the author's warnings to ensure this is a rabbit hole you want to go down. I enjoyed this dark, twisted, complex and captivating tale but have been left with so many questions that I need the answers for. Taking place in the unsettling world of a cult like society that live off the grid, Delilah finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time caught in the middle of one of their ceremonies. Usually, in a why choose there is always one of the guys that becomes a favourite but I must say I'm really not sure exactly who I like at this point. After that cliffhanger...I can't wait until the next book comes out!
Good lord what was that?!?! I’m not even sure how I feel right now because I’ve definitely read some real messed up stuff but ekkkk I wasn’t prepared LOL. I was sucked in from the beginning trying to figure out where it was going to go to what the actual f**k to nooooo to THATS WHERE IT ENDS!! Yup I did actually shout that out loud and scared my dog when I slammed my kindle down with that most dramatic huff ever. Since we know the types of books I read I usually skip the warnings to check the TW but ummm yeah please please because some of yall may not be able to handle what happens and I’m not going to downplay that it could be really triggering. Although I absolutely need the next book asap! You would think I’m used to how Leila just like to torture us with those brutal endings but I’m not LOL.
⚠️ Trigger Warning: This is a dark romance centered around a cult and forced breeding. Please check out Leila James’ page for the full list of content warnings before diving in.
For the love of everything holy (which this book is anything but) — these men are completely off their rockers, but the sons leave us with questions about themselves! Delilah has been through it with them, and this is truly the definition of a cult where women are meant to be seen, not heard.
But what they weren’t prepared for was Delilah. She’s a spitfire who refuses to simply bend to their twisted rules, and watching her fight back had me glued to the pages. From the jaw-dropping moments to the “did that really just happen?!” shocks, I could not put this book down.
And that ending… I’m still reeling. Leila James knows how to keep you hooked, and now I’m impatiently counting the days until book two!
To be honest. I didnt know how I would feel about this book. There are definitely some areas that concerned me and I had a hard time getting through, but I love this author and continued to read the book and I am not disappointed in the least. I highly recommend that you read her trigger warnings before reading the book. This book takes you straight into a cult that is dark and twisted. There is mystery and a whopper of a cliffhanger in the end. There's the saying sins of the father and there definetly is this in the book with the expectations of the sons to pick up where the fathers are leaving them and to run the cult the same way, although you are praying as you read that there will be a good ending and Delilah will not have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Can't wait to read the next book in the series. Great job Leila!!!
