I enjoyed this book a lot more than I did the previous book. The FMC goes from confident PI to bumbling and doesn't know how to do the job police assistant in the last book. In this book, she is back to being a confident PI who is finally getting her ducks in a row, even while experiencing crazy magic. Towards the end, we finally see her start to look for the missing, key to the protection of the town; fire, which is the overall plot point of this whole series. Which, until now, has just been a random thought in the back of everyone's minds. I have a theory as to where the flames actually are, and I'm looking forward to finding out if I'm right.

This episode in the series clicked for me better than the previous one. The mystery is more satisfying and the world is now more familiar and enjoyable. I'm sad to say that I still don't like Beatrix, however I don't have to like a character to follow them and her journey is interesting enough to keep me invested. I actually like Fraser but I'm put off by the insta-love aspect of his and Beatrix's relationship. (This is personal taste - I know a lot of people want uncomplicated, quickly resolved romances in these books. I'm just not one of them. While I don't want love triangles or a different man (or woman!) rotated in in each book, the complexities of a relationship and how the pair grow and compromise are what keep it interesting for me. ) Anyway, I spotted 'who done it' the moment they crossed the page and worked out the motive too, BUT none of that mattered because I enjoyed the process of Bea getting to the answers. Final thoughts: I love the werewolf bestie but there is absolutely no excuse ever for calling anyone 'Trixie'. I fell for Nour immediately - she should definitely be brought forward IMO. Overall, a fun series that readers of lighter urbban fantasy will enjoy.

Lots of exciting developments!
The story arc in book two moves quickly! We get quite a few exciting developments. Bea finally puts the pieces together and figures out what’s going on. There’s another murder in Witchlight Cove and Bea decides to take the case of the man accused. A group of deadly vampires has come to town for their annual convention. Bea and Ezra finally come to terms. Bea’s magic is wonky and growing more powerful. We meet some new townspeople.
This book kept me riveted. I’m really hoping I don’t have to wait too long for book 3!

Hello tension! Hello drama! Hello emotional onslaught! Yes... from the very first sentence this resonates with all of this! That first chapter alone pulled all my heartstrings, tight, so tight, just as Bea was held in a chokehold, I too was in danger of strangulation by words...After what Bea had just gone through, THIS revelation was the straw that broke the camels back... As if that wasn't enough, her powers are going on the fritz, zinging like crazy. Too much for Bea to absorb? Oh without a doubt! The more books in this phenomenal cowrite I read, the more I'm convinced they have the Midas touch....with words that are pure gold.
Oh my word is Bea awesome! Her entire...ummm....take on Fraser is hilarious! Bea is so relatable, her inner thoughts on Fraser are so funny and realistic. I loved her "unedited" thoughts as she was drooling over him, the sparks of her "non obsession", which this thought of hers captures perfectly, "The damn selkie didn't have a single flaw, except for his flawlessness". I loved the strength she shows, even through her fear of, well, of everything. She's come a long way from the uncertain, fearful, denial ridden girl, who runs rather than face her issue head on. But heck, for someone who's lost everything, her parents, her home, her magical identity, the Flame, she can't lose anything else, she's literally a commitment/relationship phob, but I can understand the reservations she clings to. Thankfully, Bea has the most adorable sidekick, her rescue doggie, Eva, who's her constant companion, showering her in doggie love. And she has her fabulous bff Maddie, her mother figure Yanni and even her obnoxious childhood friend, Ezra who keep her grounded, the friendship and love between Bea, Maddie and Ezra is gut warming and I simply adore Yanni's no nonsense but loving approach. Although....I swear I wanted to pull out Ezra's hair at his attitude initially, I gotta admit he was starting to annoy me with his insistence about dating Bea and then these authors flipped it, making me actually like him, a lot, settling him into his perfect role, one of supportive big brother. I even had an "awww" for him when he told Bea.... what he told her 😁 There were a few "awww" moments, notably with Ernie and Sonny, so vulnerable, so heartfelt. But the biggest "awww" moments, for me, were the Fraser moments.
Fraser is.... complex, Fraser is gorgeous, Fraser is a real gent, Fraser is considerate, Fraser shows a side of himself that is so soft, so vulnerable I went gooey all over. I could feel and see his anxiety, I could feel and see the conflict raging through him. He's gentle, understanding, caring, patient, charming, has a cool sense of humour but is as tough as they come. He doesn't hesitate to take on anything or anyone, he's protective, he's a true hunk! Toe curling, innards melting kinda guy, I mean, I just ooozed with warmth when he told Bea, "you can do anything you put your mind too". I just loved his demeanor around Bea, his quiet support, the tension between them, and oh boy, when the why comes out, geez! Mind blowing, turning life topsy turvy moment, although, in truth, she had every right to be pissed, but it still didn't stop my heart from clenching. And just for the record, the smell of the sea and vanilla are my two favourite scents, just saying....
Bea, although still reeling from the whole granddaddy saga, is thrown into an even bigger spin, she's suddenly more in tune with her emphay skills, which confuse the heck out of her, she was always mediocre at best. Except the escalation of these skills doesn't end with her empathic powers, she starts having strange "episodes", which scare the pants off her, like WTH???? Oh boy did I enjoy seeing the elevation of HER, her disbelief, her confusion, I could taste it on my tongue. Her PI skills come into play with her deducing tactics, trying to find the culprit ain't easy when there's a convention of the deadlist of the deadly vampires in town, yep, the very clandestine group called The Nightshades. They play a pivotal role in the story, just not as Bea, nor I assumed. And gosh did I LOVE Lestat! And Nour! Heather and Ella introduce new characters perfectly, seamlessly, effortlessly. I, for one, can't wait for more of these characters, I feel as though I am on a ride of note on a rodeo, the horse bucking to throw me off but I'm clinging on for dear life as this magnificent story opens up before me. The characters these authors grace us with are incredibly real, they do things to me that's almost unholy! Outstanding!
What too I could taste was the skill with which these authors navigated the waters, churning them, muddying then and when they started clearing them, my head was spinning! With the murder, the mystery and intrigue is dialled up, notch by notch, and I was floored! And the jaw dropping doesn't stop there. Heck, I almost shouted out "DUCK!" with everything falling on Bea's head, with more MASSIVE revelations! Oh dear heavens, I wasn't expecting THAT or THAT! What a shocker! And the WHOdunnit? Well blow me over with a feather! I'm going to rename Heather and Ella "the red herring queens" because that's exactly what they are! Just as I think I've cottoned on to something, they veer off course. These authors keep the truth elusive, concealed in beautiful packages so when the package explodes and reveals what's inside.... well, let's just say there's a whole lot of truth to "never judge a book by it's cover" or a person...or an event... because I guarantee you'll be as gobsmacked as I was! But one thing you'll definitely be, is enthralled, immersed, captivated...

Book 2 of the series picks up immediately following the events of Forgotten Heir, and the revelation of who Old Jacobson is. (If you haven’t read book 1 – don’t read any further).
At the start of the book, Bea is struggling to come to terms with all of the events that are unfolding around her. That Old Jacobson is her grandfather, the missing Eternal Flame, coming back to Witchlight Cove and realising what she has missed in the last 10yrs, and of course, Fraser Banks.
As she is trying to resolve her feelings in relation to all of this, several new things take place.
At an event for a new night club owned by Lorenz, the head of the Water shifters, Lorenz is murdered by what appears to be a vampire. As a result of the initial investigation, Sonny, the grumpy owner of the coffee shop is arrested as the prime suspect.
Bea though, doesn’t think he has done it. She finds that her empath skills, her magic in general, has changed since she was shot, and as a result, she can quite clearly read that Sonny had very strong feelings for Lorenz, and is now devastated by his death. Bea decides to investigate in her new role as Witchlight’s PI.
Just to make things really interesting, a guild of Vampire Assassins has come to town to hold their annual general meeting. Because of course a guild of assassins has an AGM – bureaucracy rules everywhere – even in a den of assassins. When the guild was conceived, they managed to obtain diplomatic immunity for their activities from all of the different sects (Shifters, Witch Covens, Vampires etc), so that they can operate with impunity. They do however, operate with strict rules, making sure that they stay within the lines as such, so that they do not draw the ire of the sects, and have their immunity revoked. And thus, the AGM.
However, is the AGM a clever cover for the assassination of Lorenz, or just a coincidence? Did someone kill him whilst the guild was in town, so that moved suspicion away from them? The evidence against Sonny (a video), is circumstantial, and flimsy at best.
Having decided that she would come to Witchlight Cove just to help with the Eternal Flame, Bea has now found herself embedded in the community. Her relationship with Maddie has quickly repaired itself, and the two have found that they are back to being as close as sisters again. Whilst several people have tried to set her up with Ezra, the two of them know that they have no connection, and just want to be friends. But there is more to this on Ezra’s side, as Bea discovers that Ezra has a lost love from the 10yrs that she was not there. And of course, she and her ‘Nana’ figure Yanni, who took on the role of Mum to her when she lost her own family, quickly feel like that they have never been apart, falling into old habits, and knowing that they have a special bond together.
Bea has multiple worries though in this book, not just the Eternal Flame she is meant to be finding. She has to find a killer, and free Sonny. She has to work out what is going on with her magic, since it seems to be getting stronger. And now she has a grandfather that she is not too sure about – why didn’t he come and find her? There is a guild of assassins that may or may not be active in the town. Oh, and then there is the gorgeous Fraser Banks, who seems to be taking up a ridiculous amount of her brain space so she can’t operate normally. And everywhere she goes, he is there, making it even worse.
This is an outstanding sequel to the original ‘Secrets of the Forgotten Heir’, one of those rare gems, in which the sequel is almost better than the original, as the characters have settled in, and the character writing is just brilliant. There are so many wonderful characters in the book (too many to list), each adding their own unique flavour to the story.
Witchlight Cove is a fun Urban Fantasy series, something to read when you want to enjoy a story, nothing too heavy, but still be engaged in the characters and the storyline. This is another standout book from Harris and Stone, and one not to be missed!!

Ooof the beginning of this book packed a punch! "Secrets of Deadly Nightshades" starts right after the jaw-dropping revelation from the end of book one and keeps on running! Beatrice has a lot on her plate: her bff is recovering from using dangerous magic, she seems to be having a weird connection with Frasier, and she can sorta hear people's thoughts now? Oh, and one of the most important people in town was murdered. But luckily Eva (the best puppy ever!) and her key-stealing ways is always there for love and support.
I'm not as familiar with Ella's works, but Heather always does an excellent job of balancing tension: "Secrets of Deadly Nightshades" is fast-paced but still a fun and easy read. However, one of the things that bothered me was how often Ezra was pressuring Bea with his romantic feelings. This already gave me a bit of an ick, but it was made worse by the juxtaposition of Bea teaching Ezra's nieces about consent (and how boys pulling their hair is not okay and is not flirting). It felt a little too 'I'm a nice guy' to me and tarnished my view of him as one of Bea's best friends.
The other issue I had is with the ending. One issue I had is that it felt unintentionally abrupt-- the pacing was pretty good until the last chapter where it went a bit off the rails. Additionally (in regards to the ending), I think authors have to be *really* careful in how they portray the police. Private detectives in books can get away with hiding evidence of wrongdoing/ doing things that are not precisely legal because they are not a part of the justice system and do not represent it. However, police should not have that same freedom. Police covering up evidence for 'Team Good' is a very problematic thing to include when police brutality is so prevalent: authors really have to look at how they use police in their books to make sure they are not upholding copaganda. This was such a small part of the book but had a huge impact that I think could have been pretty easily avoided.

Beatrice has a lot on her plate: her bff is recovering from using dangerous magic, she seems to be having a weird connection with Frasier, and she can sorta hear people's thoughts now? Oh, and one of the most important people in town was murdered. But luckily Eva (the best puppy ever!) and her key-stealing ways is always there for love and support.
I'm not as familiar with Ella's works, but Heather always does an excellent job of balancing tension: "Secrets of Deadly Nightshades" is fast-paced but still a fun and easy read. However, one of the things that bothered me was how often Ezra was pressuring Bea with his romantic feelings. This already gave me a bit of an ick, but it was made worse by the juxtaposition of Bea teaching Ezra's nieces about consent (and how boys pulling their hair is not okay and is not flirting). It felt a little too 'I'm a nice guy' to me and tarnished my view of him as one of Bea's best friends.
The other issue I had is with the ending. One issue I had is that it felt unintentionally abrupt-- the pacing was pretty good until the last chapter where it went a bit off the rails. Additionally (in regards to the ending), I think authors have to be *really* careful in how they portray the police. Private detectives in books can get away with hiding evidence of wrongdoing/ doing things that are not precisely legal because they are not a part of the justice system and do not represent it. However, police should not have that same freedom. Police covering up evidence for 'Team Good' is a very problematic thing to include when police brutality is so prevalent: authors really have to look at how they use police in their books to make sure they are not upholding copaganda. This was such a small part of the book but had a huge impact that I think could have been pretty easily avoided.

This book picks up right where the previous book left off. Beatrix has found long-lost family, her powers are going wonky and an alpha of the sea animals has been murdered by a vampire. Not believing that the suspect Yanni has in custody is the real killer, Beatrix takes it upon herself to become his PI and start investigating. Coincidentally, there is a guild of dangerous vampire assassins in town for their annual meeting as well; but could it really be that easy for Beatrix?
While she is meant to be investigating the murder, she also ends up investigating herself as well. She is getting different pieces of the puzzle that are stirring her emotions. From figuring out why she healed so well to why her powers are going haywire, there are several major reveals in this book! There are also more teasers about her grandmother as well. Things may not have ended up the way she thought they did.
Beatrix is definitely put through the ringer in this book. She has to deal with new family relationships, her confusing feelings for Fraser (esp. in light of what really happened with his pelt), trying to figure out why her powers are acting up and then actually understanding the truth of that situation. Yet, despite all that she has going on internally, she can't let an innocent person sit in jail. I love that she is an open book. Whether she is interacting with Maddie, Ezra, Fraser or during her investigation, she makes sure to be honest. I was glad the Ezra situation was handled the way it was! I was worried it would turn into a sticky situation, but it was handled perfectly!
This book has something going on at all times! We meet new characters, learn more about some others and definitely get into Beatrix's history! While some things are easy to see coming, others are such a surprise. As usual, I did not see the villain coming or what would happen after they were caught. So many breadcrumbs were given out and after the ending of this book, I can't wait to see what Beatrix will possibly learn about the Eternal Flame and her magical powers.

I really am enjoying this series! This is another strong story, a wonderful addition to the series and again, brilliantly written by these two talented authors.
The relationships in Deadly Nightshades feel like they hold a more prominent place in the storyline than in the previous book and I love that. Heather and Ella have a flair for crafting connections and making them real, layered and chock full of emotion. There are several new bonds developing in different ways and others being re-established after time apart. The characters involved are all people I am intrigued by and more than happy to spend time with. I hope there are many more books coming in this series because the authors bring out the best - and worst - in their characters, making for absolutely riveting reading!
The mystery element is there again and many characters are skillfully entwined in it. There is one to be be solved within this narrative and another, longer one that is spanning the series. They are both so well written, really gripping, and I never pick the villain!
There's a lovely slow burn romance arc that is absolutely delightful to follow. The MC's are approaching it, and each other, from different perspectives which keeps me on my toes and loving all the careful, "glacial" growth and the shared moments. Both Bea and Fraser are undergoing an exponential curve of character growth in this book which is colouring their relationship, but rarely is anything as expected when it's written by these authors so the challenges and surprises are all fun.
I really like Nour, who is a new figure in this world. She's a sensitive character with emotional depth and vulnerability. I love her part in the story and hope she continues to play a role in the series. Her idea of a coven of witches with wine is classic!
This new series is quickly proving to be solid and highly entertaining and is one I'm regularly recommending.

Something I really love about this series is that questions left from the previous book are picked up on and answered in the next. And that's the case with Secrets of the Deadly Nightshades. The cliffhangers and unresolved queries from Secrets of the Forgotten Heir are dealt with. My enquiring mind was satisfied, especially my curiousity about how Fraser helped 'heal' Beatrix. Whew! But no spoilers -- I won't reveal what happened here.
But I will reveal that Beatrix's character grows here in this delightful crossover of urban fantasy and cosy crime genres. We learn more about here, and, no spoilers, she learns more about herself. Her relationship with childhood friends, Maddie and Ezra, continues. It's heartwarming to see Ezra hire Beatrix to teach his young nieces self-defence. Beatrix's burgeoning romantic relationship with Fraser moves to the forefront and we learn more about Old Jacobson.

One of them certainly must be the guilty party when a bar owner is killed and all the clues lead to a vampire. At least it seems that way to Beatrix who can tell he's innocent, but since she's no longer working for the local police department, she must be a PI again in order to investigate.

Although I really enjoyed the first book in this series, this one was so much better. There was so much more tension and drama, love and romance, found family and chosen family moments and more witchy powers to be had too!
Beatrix Stonehaven definitely came into her own in this one, when she decides to investigate a vampire killing of the local leader of the water shifters in his own bar. Her love interest, Fraser Banks, becomes a suspect as he has now been promoted to the leadership position and Bea desperately needs to know the truth. Luckily for her (or maybe not so much at times), her empathy powers, which have always been on the weak side, are growing, becoming stronger, giving her visions that she cannot yet control, but they also provide her with a great deal of evidence, even if that evidence cannot be used in a courtroom. It was definitely very helpful in tracking down the culprit this time!
The visions and growing powers are because of the end events in the previous book, and the revelations that following were a welcome surprise! What Bea will do with that information is another matter altogether though!
I loved Bea much more in this one. Not only was she becoming a stronger witch, but she was becoming a better PI because of it. She had a few surprises to deal with in this book as well and although her initial reactions were not always the best, she dealt with everything in the best way she could at the time.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the romance arc works out between Bea and Fraser as well. He's seems like the perfect man - does that really exist? Maybe only in books like this :P I'm excited to see how their relationship moves forward now!

The Deadly Nightshades are an association of assassin vampires who meet yearly to deal with administrative matters. This year they have chosen to meet in Witchlight Cove. As you can imagine, this makes all of the other magical residents very nervous and Yanni, the Chief of Police, is trying to keep the community calm.
Deadly Nightshades is packed with otherworldly activity. Bea is still coming to grips with getting to know her long-lost grandfather. Maddie is slowly healing from her exposure to black magic.
Add in another murder, this time of a local vampire, as well as Bea finding out both the consequences of her life being saved by the selkie shifter then learning that her magic was bound at birth by her parents to protect her from her grandmother.
Bea's friends, the Witchlight Cove police department, and many of the sect leaders have their jobs cut out for them to try to solve the murder. As well, Bea's selkie shifter friend, Fraser, and the rest of her friends have a lot of adjusting to do to become used to the person Bea is becoming.
Witchlight Magical Mysteries Book 2 is a great read. I found it unputdownable. Harris and Stone have a great series going. I'm so glad that there will be another book on its way.

Beatrix has a lot going on in the second book of this wonderful collaborative series. Along with the missing Eternal Flame, she’s dealing with her feelings about finding her long lost grandfather. Meanwhile, a secret guild of vampire assassins is in town and when a dead body shows up, complete with vampire bite marks, Beatrix must determine if one of the visiting assassins is responsible or if the seemingly innocent, current suspect committed the murder. Throw in a coven of questionable witches, her suddenly wonky magic, a possible love interest and a huge secret that Beatrix’s best friend has been hiding, and it all leads to the wild and fun adventure that this series has become.
I love the cozy small town paranormal feel of Witchlight Cove. The world building is amazing and we continue to delve into the inner workings of the town and the relationships between the different factions. Beatrix is a great protagonist, strong, smart, and empathetic yet still vulnerable. I love the slow burn relationship between Beatrix and Fraser Banks. He seems like the perfect potential partner for her and has proven to be nurturing, loyal and supportive. If you enjoy cozy small towns, a strong heroine, an adorable pet sidekick, a slow burn romance, magic, humor and heart racing action, then you’ll love this book!

Book two of this collaboration takes us back to Witchlight Cove as Beatix finds out she is someone's granddaughter and the shock is almost to much to take for her. While this is a big revelation her relationship with others in the town are still such a mystery to her. She has a "date" with Ezra he boyhood friend who has pined for her for years but she is not looking forward to it as she just doesn't have the same feelings for him. Now Fraser on the other hand, she cant stop thinking about himself and even sees him in her mind. She has never felt his power before and worries the possibilities of what it could mean. But a night out is needed and everything is going well until the bar owner is killed and it looks like a Vampire is responsible. With a convention of them in town the suspects are numerous and they are all trained killers. Her friend Sonny is arrested and she knows he is innocent but no one is sure but her. She decides to use her PI license to help him and find the murderer. Along the way she finds out more about her past and her potential future as well as strengthening her new bond with Fraser. All in all this went entirely too quickly and left me wanting more... like right now!!!

A few inconsistencies here. The first in chapter 3, where Yanni takes a dig at Bea’s car, yet Bea’s car is still in London.
I’m not sure the author knows what a serial killer is…
Maybe I’m wrong, but wasn’t the murder victim in the first book the sect leader of the water shifters? Yet in this book, they’re saying this murder victim was the leader of the water shifters. And I swear Fraser has been said to be the second for both of them too…
This book has so many editing errors. Tonnes of missing words.
The timing of this book is all wrong and I mean that in a literal sense. She spends 5 minutes talking to someone and yet it’s supposedly been a couple hours?! What is she in some weird time continuum?
Why does Maddie suddenly have a cutesy nickname for Bea in the last 20% of the book? It doesn’t even seem like a new nickname but an established one that we’ve just never heard of before.
I’m still not a fan of the Insta-love/insta-lust thing, it’s definitely moving too fast despite both sides having issues with it.
Despite all my gripes, I did actually enjoy the mystery element of the book, though sadly the overarching mystery has once again barely been a footnote, though it seems like book 3 is going to address that.

Dive into a world where murder, magic, and vampires intertwine with a sprinkling of slow-burn romance and an irresistibly charming canine companion. "Deadly Nightshades" is a true page-turner. It captivates with its intriguing characters and masterful world-building. In this instalment, the relationships take centre stage more than in the previous book, which I really like. As always, Heather’s character evolution is wonderful and the characters are fascinating, engaging and there’s something/someone for all readers to identify with and perhaps recognise?
The story's blend of suspense and enchantment keeps you hooked from start to finish. With every twist and turn, you'll find yourself eagerly turning the pages, unable to put the book down. I enjoyed Bea and Fraser’s slow-burn romance. I like a bit of romance as much as the next person but am not keen on it being the primary focus, so this book struck just the right balance for me.
A must-read for anyone who loves a thrilling and magical journey, I do not hesitate whatsoever, to recommend it to anyone who enjoys UF and ‘Cozy Mysteries’.

Well this book really had me hooked right from the start!
With Bea reeling from Old Jacobson’s revelations at the end of Secrets of the Forgotten Heir, she’s got a lot to get her head around, especially with recovering from being shot, and Maddie’s magic-induced issues. She’s also trying to work out Fraser, and why she’s so drawn to him.
Everyone’s on edge as Witchlight Cove receives the delegation of Deadly Nightshades for their annual conference, and it’s wise to be careful when you have a group of deadly vampire assassíns visiting the town.
Now she’s no longer working at the police station Bea’s starting to teach self defence again, and as she considers setting up her PI business from Witchlight a case practically lands in her lap. The only thing is it’s Sonny, the very grumpy vampire barista, and he’s been arrested for murdẽr!
I love the way the authors have crafted the character development and story building from the previous books, whilst keeping it fresh and engaging. The main characters are vibrant and have their own interesting quirks, and there are some new ones to get to know. You’re going to love this!

Now she’s no longer working at the police station Bea’s starting to teach self defence again, and as she considers setting up her PI business from Witchlight a case practically lands in her lap. The only thing is it’s Sonny, the very grumpy vampire barista, and he’s been arrested for murdẽr!
I love the way the authors have crafted the character development and story building from the previous books, whilst keeping it fresh and engaging. The main characters are vibrant and have their own interesting quirks, and there are some new ones to get to know. You’re going to love this!

This series just keeps delivering, and Secrets of the Deadly Nightshades might be my favorite one yet!

I continue to enjoy this new series between great authors! Really can’t wait for the next one that might actually answer the one lingering question, I did enjoy this one more so than book 1 but I can’t pinpoint why.
As always I am super grateful to have had the opportunity to read this early before release! To help hunt down grammar mistakes and typos!
As with any great sequel, this one answered questions from the previous book and also brought new ones.
it is interesting to see that what I predicted back during the prequel novella actually came true.

Stick with what you know and do well. And for Harris, that would be writing books about PIs in magical communities. And smarter than average pooches.
I love Witchlight. It’s a small town, but not so small that everyone knows everyone else. The vampire brothers that own a coffee shop and a bar are Sonny and Shady (respectively), which made me laugh when I finally caught onto that.
Bea, our PI, is starting to develop her powers after thinking she was just a weak witch all her life. And along with this comes a bunch of character growth. She’s definitely getting more fleshed out as the series continues, as is her friend Maddie.
Eva the Retriever (Eeva the Retrieva) is a good girl. Very smart, brave and loyal. She deserves all the belly rubs and dog treats.
There’s a bit of the romantic sparks between Bea and Fraser, but it’s not the whole point of the story. Instead, it’s a great investigative case to find out what happened to shifter Lorenz. (I always enjoy a good whodunit)

Beatrix is such a great character. I feel like if I met her we would be friends. She’s likeable, plus she has some really admirable qualities. And I can relate to her path of learning to tackle new problems while grappling with the moral implications of the choices she makes.
Her romance with Fraser is blossoming at a really nice rate, and the rebuilding of her friendships is such a nice backstory.
There is also plenty of suspense to keep you wanting to turn the pages, and you’re likely to be impatient (like me) for the next instalment in the series!
I’m going to finish by saying that I hope Eva gets to have her moment in the spotlight of one of the books, because as cute a pooch as she already sounds, I want to know the rest of her story!

If you like crime solving in a magical small town setting then this is the series for you. Beatrix, a empath and witch with limited powers (or is she?) left her home town and job as hereditary guardian of the eternal flame (the magic source) for 10 years. But at the urging of BFF Maddie, she has returned with her smarter than average golden retriever Eva and is putting her PI skills to use solving murder as she re-establishes friendships, hunts for the missing eternal flame and discovers family secrets. The murder Bea is investigating on behalf of vampire coffee shop owner and lead suspect Sonny is of Lorenz, leader of the water shifter's from a vampire bite- while coincidentally the league of Vampire assassins just happens to be in town for their AGM.

What a great addition to this series.
This opens with Bea, freshly healed by Fraser, getting visions of him sitting in his living room. Her physic powers are going strange and becoming stronger.
When a local bar owner is found dead by vampire bites, Bea’s emphatic powers convince her that the suspect, coffee house owner Sonny (a vampire) is completely innocent.
To make matters more interesting the Vampire Assassin Guild is in town for its yearly AGM meeting.
There are surprises galore in this book, from Bea’s powers, family, Fraser, Ezra and more.
There is humour, some action, a great little mystery, suspense and romance.
For some reason, I had this on my reader but it took me a couple of weeks to read it – why I have no idea but I sure wish I’d read it as soon as it came it.
An excellent book and I will be waiting impatiently (of course) for the next installment.

Beatrix is faced with an increasingly complex life after her return to Witchlight Cove. Her power seems to be doing strange things, and her relationship with her newly discovered grandfather is confusing her as well. Not to mention the attraction she has to a prominent Selkie in the town.
Add in a murder, new friendships, revised estimation of her old friends and their powers, plus her key-stealing dog…it’s fast paced and intriguing throughout.
I think almost everyone could find a character in this series that they can relate to. It spans a diverse range of situations and interactions, with world-building that’s entirely engaging.

Following on directly from the last book, we rejoin the residents of Witchlight Cove, especially Beatrix, Maddie and Eva as they muddle through the revelations and consequences of the events that happened in Forgotten Heir.
It’s not long before they are neck deep in another investigation, pun intended, when a resident is killed by a vampire, only the field of potential suspects has risen due to the town hosting an AGM for ‘The Order of the Nightshades’ an assassin's guild of vampires.
That isn’t the only issue Bea needs to deal with as she starts to sense other people’s moods or needs, and hopes that at long last she is finally showing signs of her magic, as well as continuing to discover what has happened to the missing Eternal Flame.

Vampire assassins, a complex murder mystery committed by a vampire, a missing eternal flame, betrothal, and wonky magic – just another day in the life of Beatrix. Will Beatrix be able to save Sonney and still have fantastic coffee or is he doomed? Is she stuck with Fraser forever? Can she salvage her friendships and manage having family again? Can she get control of her magic?
Highly recommend this new series by these two authors! I can’t get enough. A real page turner with excitement, mystery and intrigue I found hard to put down! I just can’t wait to read the next one! All the characters are incredibly written and lifelike. I’d love to stroll down Witchlight Cove and experience it for myself!

Returning home is supposed to be nostalgic, filled with visits to old standbys, enjoying a more worldly perspective, and all that.
It’s kind of true. Visiting her old stomping grounds, running into people she used to know, meeting a few new ones, dealing with crime… Wait, is that supposed to be happening? It is here!
With old friends around, and spending more time with a new (hot) one, this book picks up right after the last one. It has mystery, snark, and a puppy. The dialogue is fun the storyline, gripping, and I want more while the story is complete and enough itself, room is left for more and references to the previous story abound.
I recommend reading the previous book 1st, and this book as soon as possible.

via's recovering from getting shot in the last case when the air shifter leader is murdered on an opening night of his bar. Frasier is behaving oddly and it happens to coincide with Bea's powers growing stronger. When a local witch tries to discover what is happening with her powers it uncovers a devastating secret that she doesn't have time to process because they are working a murder. and with a group of deadly assassins called the nightshades running around town it's making solving the case even more complicated. when confronted they find out danger is on its way. Frazier finally tells bia the secret he's been keeping and now she knows she will not be leaving which light cove anytime soon. This book was a fantastic read!
