Ivy Moon Total Eclipse: Ivy Moon Chronicles, Book 2

Where 1984 meets Earth Abides in District 12

Ivy Moon's quest to save her mother and what is left of humanity continues in this compelling post-apocalypse duology of survival, mystery and discovery. Once known as the anti-Greta Thunberg (a title she shuns), Ivy learns about her past, drawing on her passion for truth and science to prevail against all odds. Stripped of her memory, her handful of friends, and Tonka, the West Highland Terrier that became her link to sanity, the girl who can't even remember her age sets off on a journey through a countryside where nature is re-surging with a vengeance. Confronted by growing hordes of animals, decaying cities, and a cult of elites desperate to end her life, Ivy fights to overcome her fears and the horrible truth as to what killed mankind. But will knowing the truth save her and the last remnants of civilization?

More than a tale of survival, Ivy Moon Total Eclipse is a cautionary tale for our times. Furney does an amazing job of pulling back the curtain on contemporary social and scientific issues to afford us a glimpse into a frighting future reflected in today's headlines. While many will consider this to be a work of science fiction, almost all of the science woven into the story exists today. Lest there be any doubts, the caution in this tale (like that in Orwell's 1984) isn’t about the misuse of science, it is about the capacity of some people to use science and technology for personal gain, often in the belief that the outcome, as horrible and inhuman as it may be to others, justify the means they employ.

Author Bill Furney has done it again! Another great adventure delivered in this sequel in the Ivy Moon series. This book was an unfolding of layers of discovery and deceit. More than a few times I was surprised by plot twists that made me pause. And Ivy’s complex character evolved in a way that made me like her even more. Even when relationships got hard. Especially her strained relationship with her mother. Another point that kept me reading was the timeliness of events confronting her in this post-apocalyptic world and what we’re experiencing globally today. In this sequel, author Bill Furney has woven intrigue, irony, and loyalty in a hard-to-put-down story reflecting the challenging issues of our time. I would love to have a friend like Ivy!
