Two enemies must overcome their first impressions of each other after a hot summer night in the sheets, risking their closely guarded hearts for a shot at love in the final book of the Invincible Summer series by Carina Gaskell.
Layla hates Lucky. Lucky hates Layla. But when they spend a hot summer night tangled up in sheets, everything they’ve come to know about life, love, and each other, is put into question.
Three dates. That’s all Lucky asks for. Three dates is a fair enough chance to see where it can go between them. But Layla keeps her heart closely guarded, and Lucky is running out of time and ways to scale her sky-high brick walls.
With summer drawing to a close, a decision must be made before Lucky leaves Dalisay—and Layla—for good. Is this just a fling, or could it be something more?
Carina Gaskell writes multicultural romance novels led by Filipina characters. She believes that romance is political, from who gets their Happy Ever After to how they get it and why. She seeks to explore the intersections of love, art, culture, and politics in her work, and publishes independently as praxis.
This is the 3rd book in this series. This is what was missing for me in the first two books. I LOVED the little bits of Tagalog scattered in the book! I also appreciated the tidbit about how unfair the labor system is in the Philippines and the sacrifices OFW have to make in order to make a living.
Okay things i liked in this book:
It was very relatable with Layla going into uni with something practical because art wasn’t going to pay the bills 🙃
Imo, Layla has the most depth out of the 3 girls I read —- not feeling like she’s ever enough & walls that are held up so high
I also really liked Lucky and Layla’s chemistry! This was the best book in the series! I vibed with this writing way more than the first two. It felt more natural sounding
while this could be read as a stand alone, I'd recommend going through the entire invincible summer trilogy. we're given a background of lucky and layla's story in the previous books, and this one is a lovely conclusion (and the only one i'm willing to accept)!
an enemies to lovers novella that pulls heartstrings because of the romance and relatability. the banter between the two was spot-on as expected and we also follow their more serious conversations which make their arc a lot more satisfying 😌😌
Thank you Ms Carina for the ARC and gave me an opportunity to read this wonderful work of yours.
While I was reading this, I was thinking this is like a stand alone one and could go beyond the 84 pages. I made some highlighted parts and notes while reading this and I was like whoa some of it I can relate with.
Am just a slow reader but you can read this in one go and enjoy the story immensely. The spark between Lucky and Layla is sure there and you cannot deny the chemistry. While reading this, for some reason I was picturing it in my head like there is like a movie or tv adaptation for this.
You will catch me anytime, anywhere eating up an enemies-to-lovers book and this one is no exception! Again, I’m not one for whirlwind romance but at least in this book we get to see the chase. I love how Layla and Lucky suit each other so much. I almost got disappointed in Lucky because it felt like it’s so unfair, given only 3 dates, to say if you’re sure and all in for a person. However, he redeemed himself. The communication between the couple here is so much better compared to the last two books. I genuinely enjoyed this read and I didn’t see any weaknesses to it.
Also, huge thank you to the author for giving me an ARC to this cutesy read!
I have been waiting for this one, and it did not disappoint!
There's just something about meeting two side characters in the first book in a series, seeing them roll their eyes at each other, and patiently waiting for their book to come. Lucky and Layla were that couple for me. I knew from the start that their story would end up being my favorite in this novella trilogy. Their banter was delicious, and I loved seeing them finally admit to themselves that there's a spark worth exploring between them. I think Lucky was maybe my favorite from the beginning of this series, but Layla might have stolen that spot now! I also loved how the author talked about Filipino culture a bit more in this one! It made me aware of things I didn't know before!
This is short and sweet, with a bit of spice and a whole bunch of scenes that made me crave summertime! An ideal series to binge read while sunbathing on the beach!
A huge thank you to the author for sending me an ARC of this book!
This one was really my favorite from the series. I already liked Lucky and Layla before, but seeing their full story made me love them even more. Their chemistry was strong from the start and the emotional parts really touched me. The writing felt deeper in this book, and the way their feelings were described was beautiful. Even if it was a short novella, it didn’t feel rushed, it actually felt very complete. I also liked how it showed more about Filipino culture, which made everything feel more real. The mix of banter, feelings, and summer vibes was perfect. I truly enjoyed every page and I think it was the best way to close this lovely series. Thank you so much to the author for gifting me a copy of her book and giving me the opportunity to read it, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.
This is hands down my favorite in the series. The chemistry between Lucky and Layla is absolutely magnetic, and in this novella, I felt their connection even more deeply. Despite its shorter length, the story never felt rushed. Instead, it was beautifully written and concluded with grace. I especially appreciated how considerate Lucky is toward Layla as she slowly dismantles her protective walls shaped by past experiences. We also get a glimpse of his more reflective, burdened side which is quite a change from his cocky persona in previous novellas, allowing us to see his own emotional baggage.
My only wish is that their story gets a full‑length novel someday, because I’d love to dive even deeper into their journey.
I like Layla and Lucky. They were a coupling I was intrigued to see from the first book in the Invincible Summer series. The "hate to lovers" vibe they had coming to an end in this was just the best. Getting to know more about Lucky was also great. I somehow did not realize his government name was Lucien and honestly I love that name.
Overall, super grateful to read this book. Thank you Carina Gaskell for the opportunity. It did not disappoint.
thank you to ms. carina for giving me an e-arc copy of her book! 💌
i really enjoyed reading this one!! it was like an emotional roller coaster that i would actually ride on. i really appreciate how the characters was written, especially the mmc bc of the way he maximizes his free will to express his feelings without any filter on just to fit into the society. i can see that the importance of taking his/her own time is highly emphasized in this novella as it is really one of the core in forming a relationship. also, i really enjoyed how imperfections were seen in each characters & during the process ✨
how i wish this will be a novel instead of novella, i would love to read the expounded version as they explore further. this definitely took top 2 in the series, next to true north as being top 1, and trust issues as the third. i would definitely miss this series!
This is the third book in the series of short novellas by Carina Gaskell. It follows the story of Layla and Lucky. Out of the three books I've read, this has got to be my favorite. The story seemed the most fleshed out of the three and the characters the most developed, likely because we started getting to know them from book one. Their connection and banter is fantastic. Overall a great read!
One of the tropes that I like is enemies to lovers. This book, All's Fair, is exactly that. Out of the 3 books in the Invincible Summer series, this is my favorite.
Layla and Lucky didn't start off on friendly terms. Layla actually hated being forced to interact with Lucky because of Narra and Theo. She's the level-headed type, while Lucky is free spirited. Their personalities are bound to crash.
The two of them are noticeable in the first 2 books, and when I read All's Fair, I liked them a lot already. I felt that the time spent in the development of their love story is just right. I devoured this book because it gave me a giddy feeling. 😍 I sympathized with Layla, when her backstory was explored, finally understanding her personality.
The conflict in the story caught me off guard, as I didn't think the emotions of the character would escalate that much. Other than that, I loved everything.
Thank you to Ms. Carina Gaskell for giving me the ARC if the series! Happy Pub Day!
❝Don’t go falling in love with someone else in the meantime.❞ He backs away from her, grinning.
❝I’m not falling in love with you in the first place.❞
❝Not yet. Three dates, and then we’ll revisit.❞

This was the last book in the series, and I binged it in only two days. It was so worth it, though! Okay, so this book was so entertaining. Honestly, it has the right amount of banter, charming, witty, and fluffy. It’s the perfect balance of humor and vulnerability. I actually like the transitions in each book, but in this last book, they’re better since Layla’s character was built up already.
Lucky and Layla’s dynamic was so adorable! Lucky, the happy-go-lucky, and Layla, who’s giving man-eater vibes and ice queen persona. Lucky’s attraction was a bit unexpected, but I knew they would get together. Still, I wish they had gotten more interaction from the previous two books, which would make it seem like his attraction wasn’t just placed for the sake of it. But in this one their love story felt more at pace and natural than Archie & Sophie’s or Theo and Narra, maybe because I was already expecting Lucky and Layla to be together? I don’t really know.
This is my favorite of the three novellas because I related to Layla’s personality more. Their connection fell into place with the cute dates, the yearning, and the conversations that they were having. The love they have is showing up, having the courage to love, and being honest. It’s an emotional journey that really sums up the series perfectly!
I really enjoyed the Invincible Summer novellas and I’m glad that my first Filipino Romcom didn’t disappoint!
“What kind of nonsense is that? Blood isn’t the only thing that defines family. You are my Layla. I will always take care of you.”
Layla and Lucky were never supposed to get along. She’s guarded and sharp, he’s charming and persistent. But after one unexpected summer night together, everything changes. When Lucky dares her to go on three dates and see where it leads, their constant clashes turn into something deeper. As emotions rise and time slips away, they must decide if it’s just a summer fling or the beginning of something real.
ALL’S FAIR is a sweet and slow-building enemies-to-lovers romance that hits all the right emotional notes. Layla and Lucky’s dynamic as an artist and a photographer, with one being guarded and the other free-spirited, creates sparks from the start. But it’s their growing vulnerability that makes this story shine. I loved that he falls first, and the three-date structure added a fun rhythm to their journey. The book weaves Filipino culture and traditions seamlessly throughout, adding depth and familiarity that felt incredibly close to home. Ninang, with her warmth and quiet strength, steals every scene. She’s the kind of second mom we all know and love. This is a quick, feel-good read that’s impossible to put down, and the super cute book covers across the series make it even more of a delight to pick up!
A big thanks to Carina Gaskell for providing me with a digital ARC of this series!

"Falling for Layla was more like diving into the refreshing water of a pool. Inevitable, under the summer sun, and exactly what he needed."
Layla and Lucky had a one night stand so Lucky took the jump and asked Layla to give him a chance. Three dates with him before he left.
The perfect conclusion to the series! This is my second favorite in the series, and I have been highly anticipating their book since the first one and it did not disappoint.
I love both our main characters. We saw glimpses of their character throughout the series but this book is theirs and I love that we saw more depth and their background in this.
While I don't like the one-night stand trope, it felt like they already have a foundation of the "friendship" before anything else considering they were both "enemies" prior. I did love that Lucky was so considerate with Layla especially with her past and issues. He showed up for her and I am here for it.
Layla also saw a different side to Lucky beyond his cocky exterior and at the same time, she realized that she deserves all the good things for her.
The romance was sizzling and I was swooning the entire time. This book had the great balance between tackling issues and summer romance. I wished it was a full length novel though because I would love to read more about this characters.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY ENEMY AND I HAD A ONE NIGHT STAND AND NOW HE SAYS HE WANTS ME TO GIVE HIM THREE DATES AND THREE CHANCES?

Carina Gaskell does it again! Yet another novella which made me get off my reading slump! She knows how to tickle my sleepy brain with her short but loveable stories.
I felt so connected to Layla (our fierce FMC). She’s strong, independent, the protector—and like so many of us, she struggles to show her softer side, often misunderstood for it.
And Lucky (our MMC)? Let’s just say—his name fits. 🤪 Three dates, three chances, and boy, you almost blew it—but also… you didn’t. Ugh!
This can definitely be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend starting with True North and Trust Issues. You'll appreciate the character and connections more.
Big love to our talented Filipina author—thank you, Carina!
Want ARCs of all the books in the Invincible Summer series? Stay tuned!
Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to Carina Gaskell for entrusting me with an ARC of All’s Fair (and for letting me read Layla’s romance unfold).
I’ve been intrigued by Layla and Lucky’s story since True North, and this third and final novella really felt like watching a long-anticipated love story finally unfold from the sidelines. It’s short, fun, straightforward, clichéd, but deeply felt (and honestly my favorite of the three, almost tied with True North).
The emotional core really stands out in this one. Both characters carry so much beneath the surface, and the novella explores their quiet fears and hopes with a soft intensity. It’s written in third-person omniscient (like the rest of the series), occasionally dipping into both characters’ headspaces—which honestly threw me off sometimes, but also made it feel like I was a close friend observing their relationship unfold in real time.
It’s a short novella, and on its own, it feels a bit fast—but it’s the perfect, satisfying transition and send-off for the whole series. I had such a great time watching these two finally figure it out! 4.5 stars.
✿ 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀 ✿ 📖 Short & sweet novella ☀️ Summer love 🤍 He falls first 💘 Dislike to lovers 🎨 Artist x photographer 🍹 Three dates, three chances 🛏 One night stand
I’ve been waiting to see how Lucky and Layla’s story would play out because I loved the tension between them in the previous novellas! Just like the other books in the series, I read this in one day and spent the entire time smiling and blushing!
I love how short and sweet these novellas are and how they get straight to the point whilst still feeling like a full story! But I will say that I wish we’d had a bit of a longer ending or an epilogue with all three couples to close out the series!
This was the only story in the series that felt a little rushed and like it was missing something. The previous books were a tiny bit longer and more developed, but this story was a sweet end to the series!
If you’re in a reading slump or just want a quick, easy summer read, this series is absolutely perfect!!
Thank you Carina for the review copy of this novella! 💕
3. 𝗔𝗹𝗹'𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 The third book (which releases today, July 8) is about Layla, the prickly cousin of Sophie and Narra, who ends up hanging out with Lucien aka Lucky, the seemingly happy-go-lucky best friend of Théo.
He's been smitten by Layla from the start, but they always end up fighting...until they weren't.
Three dates later, their raw and messy feelings get exposed.

Quick Review: -This is a great read if you want something light and quick. -The novellas are written in 3rd person POV, which personally isn't my favorite, but that's just my preference. -Dalisay is a great setting for this story, and if ever you've been to Boracay, you'll be able to relate. -If I were to rank, it would be 𝗔𝗹𝗹'𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 > 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 > 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀. I feel like All's Fair had more depth and almost made me tear up. I also love a good "he fell harder" seemingly-enemies-to-lovers trope. As for True North, it had a good premise, and the characters were more mature. For Trust Issues, I'm just not a fan of insta-love. And also not a huge fan of "Daddy" as a pet name/term of endearment.
P.S. Thanks to the author for my first ARC ever! Looking forward to more novellas/novels in the future!
Layla and Lucky are so obviously into each other. It's enemies-to-lovers at its finest.
It's been TENSE between the two of them since the beginning of the summer, and Layla could not be bothered by him. Yet, she keeps finding herself looking for him to spend more time together.
Lucky seems like he has no idea how to handle his feelings for her, so he overcompensates in the worst way, making her really feel like he's not about her.
I loved finally getting more of their backstory and understanding their motivations and hesitations. They have such healthy self-confidence and just need a little help opening up to each other. It's so beautiful to see that Layla is so loved and cared for, regardless of blood relations, as she deserves!
The shortest of the series, this one relies heavily on the groundwork set up in the other two stories. Much like the second book, I would have loved just a TINY bit more. These two feel like they have the least certain futures of the summer flings, and oh, what I would give to see just a few months into their future.
I received an e-ARC of All’s Fair in exchange for an honest review and I’m so glad I did, because this contemporary romance novella was such a delight. It’s releasing on July 8, 2025, and if you enjoy witty banter, slow-burn tension, and strong, spirited characters, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.
This novella had everything I love: sharp dialogue, compelling tension, and a wonderfully executed enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Carina Gaskell’s writing sparkles with intelligence and heart, and the chemistry between Layla and Lucky kept me completely invested.
If I had one small wish, it would be for more. I truly enjoyed the story so much that I didn’t want it to end. I would’ve loved to spend more time with these characters, to see their relationship unfold in even greater depth. And knowing that this is the final book in the series made turning the last page a little more bittersweet.
Still, All’s Fair is a satisfying and beautifully written conclusion. It’s smart, romantic, and full of charm the perfect send-off to a beloved series.
All’s Fair closes out the Invincible Summer series with charm, heart, and just the right amount of tension. If you’ve been following the trio of novellas, this one delivers exactly what you’d hope for from Layla and Lucky’s long-awaited story.
Their chemistry has always been simmering under the surface, and here it finally takes center stage. I appreciated how the book explored the idea of self-protection—how Layla’s instinct to stay guarded wasn’t just stubbornness, but a way to avoid getting hurt. And Lucky? He tried to respect that, even when it meant holding back more than he wanted.
The three-date arrangement was such a fun hook, and the family’s role in making the third one happen was a sweet touch. The scene with Ninang was also beautifully done, a quiet reminder that family isn’t always about blood.
If anything, I just wish we had a few more pages to let their relationship deepen on the page — maybe more time between the three dates, or a glimpse of what came after. The pacing worked, but a little more space would’ve made the payoff even sweeter.
After True North and Trust Issues, I was really curious to see how Layla’s story would play out, and wow, this one was equal parts fiery and emotional.
Layla and Lucky’s dynamic was so charged. The enemies-to-lovers tension worked perfectly — from the witty back-and-forth to the moments when you realize just how deeply they’ve started to care for each other.
I especially loved how Layla eventually gave Lucky a chance. I understood her reluctance at first, especially given what she’d seen and experienced with her parents’ relationship. It made her journey toward trust and love feel that much more earned.
Lucky’s situation, on the other hand, really tugged at my heart. He was clearly in a tough spot, torn between what he wanted and what he thought he had to do. But the way he handled everything, and how he tried to show Layla that she was worth the risk, made me root for him even more.
This one felt like a beautiful closing chapter for the Dalisay Island trilogy... messy, passionate, and deeply human.
I loved this! 😍 This is definitely my favorite of the three books in the series 🤩
There’s much more emotional depth in this, which I really appreciated - I could not help but tear up while reading chapters 6 and 7. I felt like the characters were more alive and relatable, which is something that the previous books lacked a bit. I enjoyed their dynamic much more than the previous couples - not that the others were bad, I just preferred Lucky and Layla much more. This was as short as the other stories, but it felt more complete than the last, which is a pattern I’m starting to notice now that I’m on the third book. I’m just glad that this was more of a redeeming installation in the series because you can see how much Carina’s writing style improved and I love that for her 💖
Thank you to Carina for allowing me to share my honest review of her entire Invincible Summer series 🥰 I had so much fun reading everyone’s stories and getting to know the characters 🩷
first off, thank you carina for giving me an arc copy of ‘all’s fair’ <3 !!
lucky and layla’s story was one i looked forward to most especially after reading trust issues. the tension, banter, and interactions between them are to die for!
lucky is a photographer, and layla is an artist, a talented couple i must say!!
i love layla’s fierce attitude. how she struggles to show her vulnerable side really spoke to me, along with how she was misunderstood for it at times :”(
lucky is a man of wit! i adored how he expresses his emotions without any filter. and how he was there for layla had my entire heart <3
both characters displayed immense growth individually and together in a relationship. this book was a great conclusion to the invincible summer series. the humor and serious moments were well-balanced, overall a refreshing book to read for the summer ෆ .𖥔˚
It was an absolute great read! I loved the way the two characters did not fall too quickly in love with each other. They held back. They acknowledged each other's pain. They loved each other slowly then all at once. Out of the three books, I can definitely say that this is my favorite. I relate so much to the pain that Layla carried in the story. How she never saw herself as enough for the people she loved. It gave me so much to hope for in my own story. Lucky was the ever so patient prince charming who may have stumbled a bit at the end but really made up for it eventually.
This was a wonderful little love story. One that was definitely a highlight of this month!
Layla, made cynical by her past, figures out how she really feels about Lucky.
The story is straight to the point, which tracks for both Layla and Lucky, who are direct about what they want. Three dates is all they need to know whether there is something worth fighting for. This book takes you along for the ride and thrashes out the factors that hold the characters back from potential happiness.
5/5 because the story was complete. It was exactly what it needed to be and told the story that it needed to tell. The fast pace worked in its favor and the spicy parts were well-placed (and well-written!)
All's Fair is the last novella in the Invincible Summer Series. It picks up right where Trust Issues ends, with my favorite characters, Layla and Lucky. Who doesn't love an enemies-to-lovers story. From the beginning of the series, you can tell that Layla and Lucky are two characters that will butt heads and exchange quips like no other. Watching them realize their feelings for one another, particularly Layla, was a journey unto itself. What I loved about this story was the emotional journey our characters are on. All in all, I enjoyed reading the series, considering I read them all back-to-back in a matter of a few hours.
wow that was a rollercoaster of emotions. i love layla's character so much and i'm so happy she finally found her happy ending. i just wish her story was longer (ehem miss carina ehem)
"blood isn't the only thing that defines family." this quote from ninang was the most memorable for me, which just made me love her character even more 💗
i still can't believe the this is the last in the series, and it definitely gave us the perfect ending for all the characters. i'll surely miss the girls, ninang, and the beautiful dalisay.
thank you so much miss carina gaskell for granting me an e-arc of this book. 💗
RELEASE DATE: July 8 DATE READ AND REVIEWED: June 26
Compared to Sophie’s and Narra’s, I personally think Layla had a more interesting (or even depth) to her back story. It was so moving and kind of sentimental to see the girl you’ve known as a hard-headed, never-ever-going-to-fold, and keeps-to-herself person come out of her shell like that. I relate to her so much, maybe that’s why! It’s also kind of realistic-sounding, how Lucky was contemplating about their state after a few dates haha, unlike Archie and Theo. I think this book is so much closer to how love truly is, on an island. On a summer. It wasn’t all butterflies and flowers, it had some teeth into it in a realistic way. Loved it!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My favorite among the three novelas on this series!
I almost did not notice Layla in the first two books, but she was definitely the character I would relate the most. also, Lucky is kinda my type for my book boyfriend, hahah, definitely a red flag that rewires as a green flag for the girl.
What i love the most is the yearning, the date experiences, the honest conversations, and the ending — that's how a summer fling should've ended 🫶
(Thank you Carina for the advance copy. I am so in love with Dalisay, please take me there, except for the 150 trike fair??? hahah)
