Chaos everywhere...
Welp, this book really took me for a loop. Here's the rundown...
FULL REVIEW & SPOILERS AHEAD:
This story is book 2 of the Mafia Rules series. It's about Emma & Antonio. Emma is a journalist, & she starts off this journey going undercover to find out what really happened to her mentor 3 years ago. He was investigating mafia secrets & then suddenly disappears. 🤔 We can all guess what happened to him right? So with a hidden recorder in her purse, she sneaks in to a black tie gala to get the proof she needs to put away the man that all her leads point to, the infamous mafia don himself. And enter in Antonio Marino. Antonio is the king of the underworld. He's devishly handsome, smart, calculated, & dangerously ruthless. When he catches Emma red-handed, he gives her an ultimatum. Run & take her chances that noone else finds out she's been spying in the all the wrong places, OR...stay & work for the devil himself. 😳☠️ Welp, what's a girl to do? With all those red flags 🚩, I know which one I'd choose. Oh ya, she dives straight in too. Hold on tight & fasten your seatbelts cause you're about to take a rollercoaster of a ride that's full of betrayal, turf wars, amusing banter, twists, & more drama than a daytime soap opera! 🤭 And y'all know I fall hard for a possessive, touch her & ☠️, will burn the world down for you MMC. 🫶 And it makes me proud when a woman rises to be the queen she was always meant to be.👏
Ok, so now some of my afterthoughts...I've read a lot of dark mafia romance books, my fav btw, & this book put my brain in a weird space. 1st some + : the plot had suspense & mystery, there were curveballs at every corner, you get a cray-cray obsessive & possessive MMC, & a strong, feisty FMC. The rhythm of words & detailed imagery was outstanding (my fav quotes/phrases 👇). And the spice was pretty decent, even if it was only a level 2 for me. Now some - : the storyline was all over the place & I really struggled at times to figure out what was going on 🤔 (I re-read twice & was still a bit confused, maybe it was just me 🤷♀️) Also, the back & forth POV every other ch. was not my cup of tea. To me, the exact same scenes were repeated over & over, to the point that it got quite annoying. TBH, the whole book played out like a cheesy parody of Mr & Mrs Smith, but with an obvi0us mafia theme. (My own opinion & yes, I did pass my honest feedb&ck to the author about all of these things). In the end, we do get a HEA which is always a plus. Definately a worth₩hile read, & I appreciate the opp0rtunity to have received an advanced copy. 0verall I give 2.75 ⭐️'s.

Obsessioned With My Captor By Sophia Vale
Emma forged a press badge and had a recorder to try to get something on Antorio Marina, the mafia family. She sneaked upstairs and stood outside the door as they had a meeting, recording them all talking until her heel made a squeak on the floor, and Antorio came out. I love this story with such a strong woman who fights for everything she has. I highly recommend this story and will read it again; it is that good.
