Stalk: Assassin's Kiss Duet: Book One

Rate this book
When two assassins from opposing agencies are accidentally assigned the same target, they’re thrust into a shadowy conspiracy far bigger than either of them imagined. Forced to work together to uncover the truth, their uneasy alliance gradually shifts—from reluctant rivals to unexpected allies.

Mattia
Thirst for blood is embedded in my genetic makeup. The screams trapped within my memories lulled me to sleep. The color of freshly exposed flesh and rivers of blood was what I envisioned at the end of each day. My eighteenth birthday was the greatest day of my life. An adult. A man. Initiation.

Ren
I have no choice. I shower. Bathe away any leftover sins from the night before. Get out. Dry off. Force down a protein shake. Get dressed. Tell myself I’ll make it through another day—whether I want to or not. Then, I leave my dead mother’s house and report for my shift in hell.

ANGST, SPICE, & EVERYTHING NICE

B.G. Wolfe writes steamy romance that will make you cry, curse, and leave you smiling. As a pansexual author faced with mental health challenges, B.G.'s main goal is to write diverse characters with the hopes that readers won't feel isolated as they navigate the ups and downs of daily life.

B.G. lives in her hometown of Tallahassee, Florida with her partner, spirited daughter, and a small zoo of pets that keeps her on her toes. When she's not writing, she can often be found binging True Crime, working out in the garden, or eating whatever cheese she can find in her fridge.

”It’s not my fault he’s attractive. He knows it, too. I can tell by the way he carries himself. He always has his chin up and his shoulders squared. He always dresses like he’s on the cover of a fashion magazine. He never looks disheveled or unkempt—unless he’s inebriated, that is. Mattia puts effort into his appearance. Even if he didn’t, though, he’d still be hot as hell.”

Loved this dark MM romance about two assassins who couldn’t be more different if they tried! This is Ren and Mattia’s story and be warned, it’s book 1 in a duet!

Absolutely loved this book! The mental health and LGBTQIA+ representation were handled with so much care and authenticity—it made my heart full. Marco stole the show for me; his immediate acceptance and unwavering support were beautiful to witness.

Ren’s growth throughout the story was so well done, and I loved seeing Mattia’s softer side emerge—especially once the dog came into the picture. The emotional layers these characters brought really made the story shine.

One small thing: the big family announcement early on felt like it was setting up for more drama than we actually got. Fingers crossed it becomes a bigger thread in future books!

Also, yes, both Ren and Mattia’s first times felt suspiciously skilled for being first timers, BUT the writing was so emotionally grounded and genuine that you still feel all the awkwardness, nerves, and tenderness that make it believable.

Already itching for the next in the series!

4.5 ⭐️ Wow, this was nothing like I was expecting and yet it was absolutely fantastic. The build up in this slow burn dark romance is absolutely stunning in its intensity…. Nothing is instant or unexplained or sudden, the tension just keeps tightening and the mystery bringing Mattia and Ren together is fabulously laid out.

They could not be more opposite if they tried and yet they work brilliantly as a pairing. The world building if the assassins company is very intriguing and while we get a lot if glimpse into Mattia’s world his family his system the isolation of Ren’s world is stark in comparison, his struggle heartbreaking.

I loved the action and violence and chemistry that the storytelling drives and I just can’t wait for what happens after this almost cliffhanger but still a bit of an HFN :)

In a world built on lies, blood, and betrayal, two killers discover the only thing more lethal than their missions is the pull they feel toward each other.

Stalk is a compelling dark-romance with an edge. If you like your romance with a side of danger and moral ambiguity, this will deliver. It doesn’t always stay perfect in execution, but its emotional core and the promise of what’s to come in the series make it a satisfying first entry. Wolfe shows herself as a writer unafraid to explore flawed characters and messy connections.

I’ll definitely be reading Book Two. If I were recommending a genre match, think Redemption meets Enemy Mine — enemies forced to lean on each other, with sparks flying. Fans of high-stakes romance and assassin tropes should give it a shot.

Unorthodox meet cute? Sexy accents? Bi awakening? Fabulous secondary characters? All. The. Things!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

The amount of heart in this was a surprise to me. My soul was ready for angst, chaos, and sexy times. This story gave me all of those things. What my soul wasn’t ready for where the moments where the need to hold Ren, letting him cry out his feelings in my arms letting him know he is safe. Or the urge to shake Mattia while screaming “you are more than your last name” at him. These moments brought tears to my eyes, but also made my blood boil. In a good way. Again, my heart was not ready. Book two is needed ASAP.

Also, the shower scene. 🫠

Done with this book and need book 2 like a bullet to the head, necessary and fatal 🔫

What happens when two assassins from rival worlds cross paths? It’s not just blood that gets spilled 🩸 Fate’s a twisted puppeteer, ties their twisted souls together, and there’s no way out 🔪💋

Suspense, danger, betrayal, family, and a taste of loyalty, this book's a hit list, and I devoured every name on it in less than a day 🖤

🔥 4.5 ☆ and the kind of heat that will leave your shower glass fogged up 🫦

⚠️ Check those triggers. This one's sharp enough to gut you 🔪

Thanks for letting me peek at the kill list early 🖤

B.G Wolfe proves once again that she knows how to write a character driven story. Wolfe writes a story of two assassins accidentally meeting "on the job" and discovering strange corruption inside of their already strange and corrupt jobs.

Wolfe writes two characters with the exact same job and similar backgrounds, but they could not possibly be more different, and yet you see exactly why they work together. I can't wait to see what she does next!

Really enjoyed reading this one. Ren and Mattia make quite the interesting duo. Two people who are complete opposites, yet work in the same field. I feel so much for Ren. His dreams were basically ripped away from him and was thrown into a nightmare. Mattia is just following along and working in the family business. I loved the dynamics between these two. There were moments where I was shocked, confused, giggling, and kicking my feet. The spice was hot and steamy. The author did a great job with mental health and queer representation. The character development and story building are excellently written. I can’t wait for the second book.
I did receive this book as an arc from the author. This is my honest review.

I found this at a local bookshop who had a good selection of local authors. I thought I would try a local Tallahassee author. The story was interesting and I finished it in a day. I don't typically pick up books that contain a lot of violence and while it is about assassins it wasn't too graphic. I love a good love story (no matter who is in love) :). Of course it ended on a cliff hanger and I will have to get the second book.
