Doomed

I wish that someone had warned me. I wish that we would have met sooner, and I'd wished that we had never met at all. I was doomed the day I met him, whether I ever realized it or not, and in more ways than one. I was seventeen years old and had never been kissed, the picture of pure, sarcastic innocence-my sweatpants-clad ass so at odds with those of the girls I was forced to sit next to in English class. I just didn't fit. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for what would happen next-my lips untrained against his, warms hands on my skin. We weren't supposed to fit. The boy from the so-called wrong side of the tracks, with black hair that ended in ringlet curls halfway down his back. Good falling for so-called bad. We weren't supposed to fit, but we did.

Nancy Beaudet currently lives in Red Deer, Alberta with her husband, Adam. She's a cash supervisor by day and a writer by night. During her work day, Nancy likes to spend her time high fiving strangers and hugging old men. Nancy got her dad's sense of humor, and this is not always a bonus while working with customers. Nancy has been writing since she was a tweenager. Trust us, there's boxes upon boxes in her parent's basement. Thankfully, Nancy has graduated from saving her manuscripts as "New story." and "New new story." She has also stopped saving them by smashing the keyboard, which resulted in many files being called "HHWGGGDSG." Yeah, that was chaotic. Nancy hopes to one day be able to write for a living, but until then she won't stop believing!!!

In every high school there are popular girls and then there are the rest of the girls. Emerson falls into the rest of the girls. She is shy, she is unpopular and she is a big girl. The boys have never looked twice at her, until Warren. A man she works with at the local grocery store. He looks after her to make sure she is okay. But is it okay? Is Warren really in love with her? Should she jump in with both feet?

I could identify with Emerson, being unpopular in school and then one day it all unleashes all over the popular people. I can't say I felt Emerson's pain, she seemed really oblivious to things at certain times, but then at other times she was with it.

The writing at times was chopping and I wasn't sure what was going on, and would need to reread before figuring out what exactly happened. With that being said, the parts that flowed and were smooth were very good. I wanted more from the ending, closure. It just kind of stopped. There was no climax. I wanted a confrontation. I wanted to know why.

It's a very innocent book, that any 17 or younger could read, without worry from parents.
