Single Glance: A Single Dad, Baseball Romance

Rate this book
Sometimes love takes more than a single glance...

When it comes to Cam Seda, the lines are clear. He’s my best friend’s ex and the father of her daughter. The one man who I cannot cross any lines with.

He might look like he’s been carved out of marble, and has a smile that melts me to my core, but that’s where the attraction ends. Ever since our paths first crossed, we’ve been at each other’s throats, neither willing to concede an inch to the other.

However, when we find ourselves in each other’s orbits, those lines thin, and I can’t remember why we’ve never gotten along. In fact, the more time I spend with Cam, I realize he might be exactly who I’ve been looking for all along.

As I get to know the man beneath the baseball jersey, it gets harder to ignore the pull between us. With each moment we share, the more I want him, and it’s getting harder to remember why we can’t be together.

With more hearts than ours on the line, it’s a dangerous game.

And one I can’t help but play.

i mean i really like a good slow burn book. however, i feel like the pacing of this book was a bit on the slower side. at some points of the book i just wanted the plot to move a little faster.

despite that, the ex-best friend's trope was done really well. i loved that the best friend was rooting for them from day 1 and didnt act like super petty.

as for the characters, hadley was so fierce and sweet. she knew what she wanted but her childhood trauma held her back. i also hated her mom, if you read the book, you'd agree with me. and cam, was the best dad ever! he was so sweet to his daughter. it was kinda refreshing seeing despite their fallout, he still stayed best friends with his daughter's mom. i really liked it.

⤷ thank you to the author and luna literary management for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this read! The main characters have a complicated history that leads to some amusing conflict between them. I found myself laughing at their bickering and how they constantly seem to get on each other's nerves. Hadley is such a delightful and caring character, always loyal to her friends. However, she has some relationship baggage that makes her avoid anything serious. When she first meets Cam, she feels an instant attraction, but upon discovering that he’s her roommate’s boyfriend, she decides to dislike him instead. Even after Cam and her best friend have been apart for three years. Then, her best friend asks her to help take care of her daughter, Emilia, who is also Cam's daughter, and everything starts to blur.

Cam has been passionate about baseball his entire life, and this is his first shot at the major leagues! He’s excited to prove himself, not just for his career but also to be close to his daughter, Emilia. He's such a wonderful dad—so loving, sweet, gentle, and protective. At first, he thinks dealing with Hadley while caring for Emilia will be a challenge. But as he spends time with Hadley, he starts to see her softer side, and before he knows it, his feelings for her begin to grow.

I loved watching Hadley and Cam's relationship develop! Hadley has her doubts and insecurities from her past, but Cam is always there to show her that she deserves love without any conditions. I appreciated how confident he was about his feelings for Hadley, ensuring there were no misunderstandings about how serious he was about being with her. Also, Hadley is sweet with Emilia, and their interactions are just so heartwarming and adorable! Overall, this was such a fun read with relatable characters, lovely friendships, and moments that are both swoon-worthy and spicy!

Hadley was kind, caring, wild, and loyal to a fault. Given her upbringing and the experiences she'd had, settling down and putting down roots scared her. It was easier to always be on the move. I also loved how much love she had to give to everyone in her life. She always went above and beyond for everyone and was fiercely protective of the people who mattered to her, which also explains her dislike for Cam.

Cameron gave his all to everything he did. Be it his sport or being a father. He believed that his life only had space for two things—baseball and Emilia. So the last thing he expected was to have complicated feelings for Hadley. He had his own misconception about her, feeling like she was too unpredictable and flaky. But I loved how he took his time to learn about Hadley, her past, and her dreams and stuck by her side through it all.

The romance between Hadley and Cam could've had a better transition, especially given their dislike of each other for over 6 years. It was a slow burn, but the feelings still felt like they changed far too early in the book, and there wasn't much time to see the 'dislike' part. This is a me thing, but I wanted to see a little more of the banter, the shit-talking, and the 'I can't stand you' moments before the gradual shift. However, there were moments between them that I found really sweet, so I did enjoy the romance. Cam was a steady presence for Hadley, and similarly, Hadley helped quiet all the noise in Cam's head. The spice was good, and I enjoyed it.

I loved how Cam knew how sure he was about his feelings for Hadley even though he did have some moments of conflict given all that he was going through both personally and professionally. But he stood firm on his decision of wanting to be with Hadley and showing her his love and support even when she wasn't ready to see it.

I liked the resolution that Hadley came to with respect to her relationship with her mother. It was a pivotal moment for her character and all the turmoil she'd felt throughout the book. I truly loved the support she got from all her friends who'd become her family, especially Cam.

I loved Hadley's bond with Emilia. The way she was so kind and patient with Emilia and treated her like her own daughter. The crafts they did together, the matches they went to together—it was all just very adorable.

I feel like I needed a little more backstory into these characters for me to be more invested. Victoria is one of the FMCs from the previous series, so I think the same characters had already been established there. But I hadn't read it, so I wish there was a little more show than tell because some parts made me feel like I was starting the story halfway through. Maybe a few flashback chapters at least to get an understanding of what their relationship was like before.

Thank you to K. C. Brooks for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book pulled me out of a reading slump and completely stole my heart. I loved the banter and chemistry between Cam and Hadley. They were so fun and swoony together! Hadley’s relationship with Cam’s daughter was beautiful, and absolutely loved the found family and besties group!

Hadley was such a spitfire, loved her! She loves deeply and selflessly. After her traumatic childhood and troubled relationship with her mom, I was happy to see her choose her happiness first. Cam was the dream book boyfriend: loyal, supportive, and totally down bad for his girl. And the spice? Absolute chef’s kiss!

This was my first K.C. Brooks book, but it won’t be my last! I can’t wait for more from this series, especially Ollie, Parker, and Brianna’s stories. Huge thanks to the author and Luna Literary for the ARC!

I loved KC Brooks' Saint Stephen Lake Series, so when I heard she had started a spin off baseball series called Erie City Hawks, I immediately was like sign me up! If you're familiar with SSL series, then you'll remember in book 3 we met Victoria. Well Single Glance brings Victoria's family back into the picture because the MMC is Cam, her ex and father of her daughter, and the FMC is Hadley, Victoria's best friend!

Okay, I promise this isn't messy lol. Victoria is happily in love with Adam, and all she wants is her best friend and her ex is be friends. They can't be in the same room without snarky comments, rude names, hateful barbs against each other. But Cam's 6 yr old is starting to pick up on the tension and Victoria and Adam are leaving for a trip for 3 weeks so Cam and Hadley have agreed to be on their best behavior until Tori gets back.

Cam plays professional baseball so Hadley is there to help out with Emilia when he has games and practice. Both are currently staying on Tori's property as they look for their own places, as they've both moved to town. What could possibly transpire while staying under 1 roof? Oh.... I don't know.... :)

I have been waiting for this story! I felt it was coming and it was everything I'd hope it'd be. I knew I'd adore both Hadley and Cam, and I really did. I'm excited for this new series and can't wait for the next one already.

Cam and Hadley have been in each other's lives for almost a decade, Hadley's best friend Tori is Cam's ex and mother of his daughter. Hadley and him haven't always been friendly, but she knows he's a great father and still one of Tori's best friends. They start to become closer when Tori and her new boyfriend leave the country for 3 weeks and Hadley offers to watch their daughter while Cam plays baseball. They stay in Tori's house, sharing the responsibilities. Hadley goes to her first major league game with Cam when he finds her upset over her mom and stuff. There they start to realize they can be friends and not hate each other. One thing leads to another and they decide to have one night, to get it out of their systems. Their chemistry is too strong for it not to be more but both are worried about how Tori will feel. Hadley also has trust issues stemming from her mother and how she was raised. Can Cam break through all those walls?

I was not expect to love this book, but here I am, giddy with excitement about telling you all that you need to add it to your TBR immediately.

This story was so wholesome. Cam is a golden retriever boyfriend through and through. His acts of service are unmatched, and as sweet and caring as he is, he has a dirty, dirty mouth in the bedroom. He’s obviously the total package 😍

Oh, and if he isn’t already a dream, he’s also a professional baseball player and a single dad to her best friends daughter. You read that right, her best friend’s baby daddy.

I loved Cam and Hadley so dang much. Their relationship went from dislike to love and it was so much fun watching them find their way to each other.

This is my first book by K. C. Brooks but it definitely won’t be my last. This story was beautifully written. It gave me all the feels and I just couldn’t put it down. This is a book I’ll be dreaming about forever. This story. The characters. The found family. All of it was just so perfect.

Seriously…single dad, baseball player, golden retriever. What more do you need?!

Thank you to Luna Literary and the author for the ebook arc to read in exchange for my honest review!

A single dad baseball romance?! SIGN ME UP!!

Adored this book + the backstory/history. All the angst. The tension. The forced proximity. The banter. It was wholesome while also spicy. Everything we love.

Cam is a professional baseball player. He is also a single dad to the sweetest girl. The twist?… It’s her best friend’s daughter + baby daddy. If that doesn’t make you want to read this, then idk what will.

My first book by this author & I really enjoyed it so I’ll be back for more!

Very grateful to have gotten this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thanks KC Brooks & Luna Literary!

With more hearts than ours on the line, it’s a dangerous game.

And one I can’t help but play.

Plot:
At the start of college year, Hadley arrived in her new Austin apartment, with the hopes of fresh start after getting her heart broken by her high school boyfriend, her sorry excuse of mother and life disappointing her. Never in her dreams had she dreamt of coming across Cameron Seda, a fine young handsome man who helped her take her things up the stairs. Just as she thought that maybe they could have something between them, he turned out to be her new roommate’s boyfriend. Life disappointed her again.
Fast forward to the future, a lot has happened…
-Victoria and Hadley became soul sisters.
-Victoria and Cam had an accidental pregnancy which led to their 6 year daughter Emilia.
-Victoria dropped out of college.
Victoria and Cam were no longer a couple but great friends and co-parents.
Hadley and Cam hated each other’s guts. She hated him because not only did he knock up her best friend which led to her dropping out of college, she also liked him a lot when she first met him. He was also her best friend’s ex, friend and baby daddy- off limits.

She called him Sarge because he was strict with her. He called her Menace because she was always stirring up trouble. She never missed an opportunity to annoy Cam, especially with glitter. They never got along…until…the storm slowly broke clear.

Cam finally achieved his childhood dream, go full-pro baseball player. He got the seat in a new team, the Erie City Hawks which was near Saint Stephens Lake. He could see Emilia everyday. He was staying at Victoria and Adam’s place until he got his own place. All was falling in place. There was a slight glitch- Menace was also staying over temporarily. She was working as a substitute teacher at the local school.

They tried to be civil on Tori’s request because it was affecting Emilia. Them being civil lead to things being too friendly and easy among them. And then came Tori’s trip to Australia with Adam for a shoot for weeks. Tori needed a break, she deserved. She was a bit hesitant about leaving Emilia but Cam and Hadley convinced her that they would be civil and cordial.

A lot happened in those weeks. They went from “I can’t stand you” to “I can’t be without you”. The storm suddenly broke clear. They learned a lot about each other. They came to appreciate each other. They saw more underneath their sunshiny personalities. Despite all the tension in their professional lives, they found joy when with each other. Cam helped Hadley in realising that she can finally put her past behind her and live her life she once dreamt of. Hadley was there was Cam through every single high and low. She became the shoulder he could lean on during a rough day. They…fell in love when they least expected it, with the least expected person.
The only hurdles- them not wanting to hurt Tori and Hadley’s past baggage. Do they get their happily ever after?
Spoiler- yes they do ;)

Opinion:
-It’s a K.C.Brooks book, of course it’s amazing.
A perfect start to a new series.
The progression of the relationship between Cam and Hadley is lovely, sweet and spicy, a good enemies-to-lovers. Genuinely, they deserve each other.
Cameron Seda the man you are. I’m suddenly in love with the name “Seda”. What to do, I’m just a girl. He’s a real man, what the world needs. Despite all that has happened and what still ensures, he still remains the good man he his. He’s so far, one of KC’s best MMC.
Hadley, I want to be a warm comfortable blanket to hug, comfort and protect you.
The narration is good, however, it did become a bit messy at some places in my perspective.
This book is overall, a sweet read, with a few BP raising moments.
The part I love the most- the book reveals so much of potential for this series. I’m super eager for the other books which I know are gonna keep toping each other.

I love reading books with great character arcs. You know the one where the character starts off down on themselves, not believing they are enough or worthy of much and then by the end of the book they are stronger and better and thriving? Yeah, those are the ones I am talking about.

What I loved most about K.C. Brooks’ Single Glance was how much the FMC, Hadley, transformed from an individual who doubted herself at every turn, who, because of her childhood, never believed she was worthy of love, to someone who was self-assured and unwilling to have those in her life that did not have her best interest at heart. With the help of the MMC, Cam, and her friends who became her found family, Hadley gained the acceptance and courage to be her true and authentic self. I loved seeing her growth throughout the story. I really liked Hadley as a character. I found her relatable and liked her progression.

Watching Hadley and Cam go from frenemies to lovers was an exciting journey. From what we saw at the beginning of the story, there was always chemistry between the two and they just needed to let down their walls and let love flourish. I really loved Cam as a dad and little Emilia was the best! Victoria was the bestest friend, and I loved how accepting she was of the changes between Hadley and Cam.

Though I enjoyed the story overall. The pacing was a little weird for me. Things were going slow at first and then suddenly, Hadley and Cam got together and then the ending felt really rushed for me. Though there was some chemistry between the two, it was not completely believable to me. I thought there would be a little bit more push and pull in terms of them going from enemies to lovers (these are two people who have loathe each other for the past 7 years). There was just something missing there for me.

Overall, this was a book that I enjoyed, and I was able to read it all in just two days. Though the pacing was not my favorite, I was engaged and really wanted to see how things would play out. As an intro of a new series, the author did a great job. I am invested in the characters, and I really look forward to the remainder of the series. I can’t wait for Ollie and Parker’s story!

In Single Glance, K.C. Brooks delivers a heartfelt, slow-burn romance filled with emotional depth, found family, and the kind of love that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Hadley McKay has spent her life learning how to survive. With an absent father and a mother battling alcoholism, Hadley was forced to grow up too fast. After college, she leaves her past behind and moves to Saint Stephens Lake to be near her best friend Victoria, the one person who’s ever felt like home. Hadley adores Victoria’s daughter, Emilia, and loves the life she’s built, even if she keeps her heart locked away after a devastating breakup years ago taught her that people always leave. The only downside to this otherwise idyllic setup? Cameron, Victoria’s ex and Emilia’s father. A rising star in the MLB, Cameron is driven, stubborn, and, in Hadley’s eyes, impossible to like. Their relationship has always been a mix of snark, sarcasm, and barely restrained eye rolls. But when Victoria temporarily leaves town to join her boyfriend overseas, Hadley and Cameron are unexpectedly thrown together to care for Emilia. With Cameron’s travel schedule and Hadley’s steady presence in town, they begin to parent side-by-side. Slowly, the bickering turns into late-night conversations, shared laughs, and undeniable chemistry. As the two grow closer, Hadley struggles with her lifelong fear of abandonment, afraid that letting someone in means risking heartbreak all over again. Meanwhile, Cameron is offered a trade that could take him away from everything he’s building, not just his career, but the budding life he’s finding with Hadley and the daughter he loves more than anything.

Hadley is a fierce, relatable heroine, guarded, independent, and shaped by her past. She’s spent her whole life thinking she’s too much for anyone to stay. Watching her learn that she can be loved because of her strength, not in spite of it, is both powerful and tender. Cameron is a refreshingly grounded sports hero. His drive to succeed on the field is matched only by his desire to be a good father. But what makes him unforgettable is the way he shows up for Hadley, not just as a romantic partner, but as someone who sees her fully, flaws and all. His willingness to give up his dream for his family proves that the truest love doesn’t ask for perfection, it asks for presence.

In conclusion, I gave Single Glance 5 stars because K.C. Brooks masterfully weaves together themes of healing, vulnerability, emotional growth, and the beauty of found family in a setting that feels both comforting and authentic. The small town of Saint Stephens Lake becomes more than a backdrop—it’s a character in itself, nurturing the slow burn between Hadley and Cameron as they work through old wounds and discover new hope. Single Glance reminds us that sometimes the best relationships come from the most unexpected places, and that love doesn’t always arrive loudly, it often shows up in the small, steady moments that build into something extraordinary. This is a quietly powerful story about second chances, the families we choose, and the transformative magic of being truly seen.

Cameron, a caring, supporting and thoughtful single dad
Hadley, everyone loves her, but deep inside she is full of fears and insecurities

Quote:”This is us, together. It’s not great, it’s not amazing. It’s fucking life changing. You’re made for me, baby, every single inch of you, and I’m never letting go.”

Cam, Hadley and an amazing journey

An amazing, exectionall romance with all the feels. I love those kinds of romances and even if I didn’t know what was coming my way, I instantly loved Cam and Hadley. Never thought the story would turn out to be the way it was, and I kept going reading and reading till the end because it gripped me deeply.
Hadley is a wonderful character. Nice, sweet, caring and supporting. A good friend and auntie. But deep inside she is full of fears and insecurities. Not being worthy or enough, or made for someone to stick around or simply not being worthy of love.
Cam is finally at a point in life where he wants to be and in the city where he wants to achieve his goals. His priority is his daughter, always.
Cam and Hadley have known each other since college and their first meet was cute but they were not meant to be at that point. What could have been a great friendship turned into a strong dislike and each conversation ending up with flinging insults at each other.
But life has its ways of bringing together what it is meant to and so Cam and Hadley face a challenge by working together without arguing and that is going to turn into something really special.
They get an amazing journey, with all the feels, spice, angst and a love worth fighting for. And for all sports lovers a deeper insight into the world of baseball.

Omg this book was everything. Single Glance is a single dad baseball romance where we follow our FMC Hadley as she tries to navigate the growing tension between her and her best friends ex boyfriend and our MMC Cam as his introduction as a major league player turns into a growing connection between his exs best friend. We follow through their eyes as their history prompts tension to grow when they are forced to be near each other for three weeks. We watch as “hate” turns to love and as they grow and achieve their dreams together.

I’m so in love with these two goodness. Such an incredible group of characters. Watching Hadley and Cam come together and finally express all their feelings was honestly so good! I loved Hadley and her character, she is so head strong and knows what she wants but due to her childhood tries to undermine herself. She’s such a relatable character and I absolutely loved that her friends and Cam were able to understand her worth and value! Cam is like a dream man! A baseball player who where’s his absolute heart on his sleeve and cares so deeply for the ones he loves. The way he interacts with his daughter and her mom, the way he supports Hadley and makes her dreams come true. Just honestly an amazing character. I’m obsessed with both of them!

Listen I’m a sucker for single dad baseball romances, I just always love them so I knew I was going to absolutely be obsessed with this one. I loved the writing for this one, it was simple, had enough detail, every plot point made sense it was so good! I loved how all the characters were written and how everything happened and the baseball was great ( I honestly wish we got more hehe)! Also that ending mwah perfection! I honestly had so much fun reading this book and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! And honestly what’s not to love! Like a single dad baseball romance come on!!! Loved every second! Thank you to K.C. Brooks and Luna literary for the incredible ARC! ⚾️🐈‍⬛🍎

Hadley and Cam have a clearly defined line to their frosty relationship: he's Hadley's best friend's ex and the father of her daughter and tolerate each other for them. However, when they find themselves in each other's orbits, lines get blurred and Hadley wonders why she hasn't gotten along with the baseball player. When hearts get involved, a dangerous game begins.

I adored this book from start to finish. Hadley is kind, caring, and loyal to a fault. Because of her upbringing and experiences, settling down has always been a fear and choosing to always remain on the move. Hadley has always been around to take care of others, going above and beyond for Victoria and her daughter, Emilia. The past between Cam and her best friend explains her dislike for Cam.

Similarly, Cam gives his all into everything he did; from achieving his goal of being drafted to a major league baseball team to being a good father to Emilia. Cam believes that his life is complete with those two elements. When circumstances force Hadley and Cam to work together, he realizes that his life has space for one more person. However, that road is anything but easy as Cam must get past his own misconceptions about Hadley. What I loved about Cam is that he took time to learn about Hadley, her past, and her dreams.

The romance between the two characters blossomed slowly and could've fully bloomed a little further into the book, given how long their dislike has been going on for half a decade. I would've liked to see more of the dislike between the two with the banter and the 'I can't stand you' moments as the shift started in their relationship. The certainty that Cam felt in regard to his feelings for Hadley, despite his moments of conflict; not just personally but also professionally.

This book is filled with so many sweet moments that helped the romance become a full flower by the end of the novel. The spice is good along with their undeniable chemistry, but I especially like how both Cam and Hadley become each other's harbor. K.C. Brooks did it again with this wonderful story, reuniting readers with old friends from Saint Stephens Lake and making us fall in love with a new universe of characters.

Thank you to K.C. Brooks for trusting me with an eARC copy of your novel!

Single Glance was one of those books that I truly just could not put down, I couldn’t stop reading, each chapter left me begging for more. I honestly think this was one of my favorite reads this year.

I have never read a best friend’s ex before, and I fear I have a new found favorite trope. I think I really loved this book because it was written so well, it brought out the best in each character while also showing the highs and lows in life that are deeper than just surface level.

Cam and Hadley meet their first year of college on move in day, when Hadley’s best friend (then roommate) Victoria dating Cam. During that same year, Victoria got pregnant with Emilia and ended up not finishing school so she could stay home with Em. Throughout the years - Hadley and Tori have remained life long friends, and Emilia loves to have Auntie Hadley around... but Cam and Hads could NOT get along. They were always at each others throat. Cam always told Hadley she was a menace, and she always called him sarge. Now here they are years later, Cam finally gets him Major League debut for the Erie City Hawks, which he wanted because it meant he was closer to Emilia,.. but now Victoria’s going on a few week long trip and they need help with Em.. so Auntie Hadley offers to help!
I’ll let you read the rest from there...

I really loved getting to watch Cam and Hadley’s relationship unfold, and it makes you think if their meeting and Hadley KNOWING he was a good guy, all those years ago, was just the universe saying “right person, wrong time”. Gosh - I will be thinking about this book for awhile, they gave me all of the feelings. All of the swoon, the heartache, the joy, the squeals, and everything in between... but when I tell you the spice in this was absolutely delicious.. it was DELICIOUS.

I am SO grateful to have received this as an ARC, and it will for sure not be the last K.C. Brooks
book I read. RUN to KU and Amazon on July 3rd to get you this beautiful story.

From the moment we met Hadley and Cam, I knew there was more than met the eye. KC Brooks has started her Erie City Hawks series off with a home run! Single Glance is a best friend’s ex romance that is a beautiful read. I always look forward to KC’s newest books and am excited for the rest of this series. Bringing characters back from her last book to help navigate the complexities of her newest romance reminds readers that love finds us in unexpected places, but if it’s real, it’s worth fighting for.

Hadley is a total girl’s girl. Her loyalty to Victoria was heartwarming, even if it meant she pushed down her own feelings. Even after Cam and Victoria break up, she keeps her distance despite the attraction she feels towards him. You don’t date your best friend’s ex, girl code 101. However, when Hadley is asked to help out with Emilia (Cam and Tori’s daughter) therefore pushing her into close proximity with Cam, her heart can’t stay unattached.

Cam has dreamed about playing professional baseball since he can remember. When an opportunity arises to push this dream closer and be closer to his daughter, he jumps at the chance. I love seeing him and Victoria’s interactions as they have remained respectful towards each other. Their co-parenting is amazing. As he begins to spend more time with Hadley, he sees a different side of her and begins to fall hard and fast.

KC always gives us heartwarming romance with the perfect amount of spice. Human relationships are at the core of her books and the raw emotion that is felt in every single one of her books is what keeps me coming back for more! I will read anything she writes. Her characters are always layered and deep, making their stories easy to get lost in and forget you are reading.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

“She’s the one girl he should never want and yet she’s the only one he can’t resist.”

Y’all… this Erie City Hawks book had me by the first pitch! If you’re a fan of messy history, unresolved tension, and a whole lot of heart, this one’s for you.

Cam Seda is the golden retriever of book boyfriends. He’s soft for his daughter, sharp on the field, and unexpectedly sweet beneath all that brooding. Hadley? She’s fiercely loyal, funny, and just trying not to fall for the one guy she absolutely shouldn’t: her best friend’s ex and baby daddy. Cam Seda is swoony, complicated, and 100% off-limits, but that didn’t stop me from falling for him just like Hadley did 😍

Tension? Check ✔ Snarky banter? Double check ✔️✔ Emotional depth? TRIPLE CHECK!!! ✔✔✔

What starts as mutual disdain slowly turns into stolen glances, soft moments with Cam’s daughter Emilia, and ultimately a love that neither of them saw coming. This book had me rooting for them through every obstacle - grief, guilt, missteps, and the complicated threads of their past.

Their dynamic had all the enemies-to-lovers angst I crave, with layers of emotional baggage, co-parenting drama, and stolen moments that made my heart ache. Watching these two navigate messy boundaries and undeniable chemistry was the perfect kind of emotional rollercoaster.

Tropes you’ll love:
⚾️ Single dad
💖 Forbidden love
⚾️ Enemies to lovers
💖 Best friend’s ex
⚾️ Forced proximity
💖 Found family

If you’re into baseball boys with heart, complicated pasts, and heroines who challenge them every step of the way, then Single Glance is a home run. 🧢❤️

I absolutely ADORED this rom-com, frenemies to lovers, single dad, baseball romance book. Like really loved this! I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I didn’t want it to end.

Hadley McKay had it hard growing up and didn’t have much of a family. Her mother was all she had, and I wouldn’t exactly call her a mother. Hadley moved far away to college so she could give herself a good life, and it was the best decision she made. She met friends on day 1 that turned into family, but the only thing missing in her life, was a guy she could trust and be happy with. She was caring, independent, loyal, and feisty- especially with one in particular-her best friend’s ex, Cameron Seda.

Victoria is the mother of her and Cam’s little girl, Emilia. She is also Hadley’s best friend, rock, and voice of reason. But a lot comes into focus when Victoria goes away for a few weeks with her boyfriend. Cam and Hadley have to work together with their schedules so Emilia always has someone around to care for her. This is tough with Cam’s baseball schedule, but they end up working together very well. Maybe all their banter and annoyance with each other over the years was to cover up and bury how they really felt about each other?

I was in such awe at Hadley and Victoria’s friendship throughout the book and really loved how they handled things that came along their way. They were so loyal and understanding, and every friendship should be just like theirs.

You will LOVE this adorable and sweet story and how love sometimes takes more than a single glance.

Sometimes love doesn’t show up at the right time… but it shows up exactly when it’s meant to! Or, you know, it's been staring you in the face for almost a decade 😅.

I loved this book! Cam completely stole my heart - he’s fiercely loyal, protective, and so incredibly sweet with his daughter (swoon!). And Hadley? Strong, sharp-tongued (especially where Cam is concerned!), but also beautifully flawed. Her insecurities, rooted in a tough childhood and a fear of never being “enough,” made her so real and relatable.

There’s an instant spark between them, but the romance itself is slow burn since they’ve been orbiting each other for nearly a decade before finally letting down their walls. And when it happens… chef’s kiss 🧑‍🍳😘.

It’s a perfect blend of angst, swoon, and heartfelt moments. The found family vibe is everything (it's admittedly one of my fav tropes): side characters are fleshed out just enough to make the world feel real and lived in, without making you feel lost if it’s your first book in this universe. (And bonus: Cam & Hadley's story it ties in with characters from the author’s earlier series — which I now have to read!)

I especially loved how Cam’s ex / Hadley’s best friend, Victoria, isn’t your typical “villain ex” - she’s actually a wonderful, supportive character, and we need to protect her at all costs!

If you love single dads, best friend’s ex tropes, forced proximity, slow burn, and stories layered with family, loyalty, and healing, definitely add this one to your list. Highly recommend!

Thank K.C Brooks & Luna Lit for the ARC!

I am obsessed with this baseball romance from KV Brooks! 🤩 This literally had me hooked I couldn’t put it down until it was done! Cameron and Hadley had such amazing chemistry from the very beginning I knew their story would be amazing. The banter in this was top tier. I love when the characters have back and forth that is witty and this is full of it.

Cam is a pro baseball player and a single dad who ends up taking care of his daughter full time for a short bit while his ex goes with her new husband on a work trip. Hadley is the best friend to Cam’s ex wife and also an aunt figure to their daughter. While Cam has his daughter full time they decide with his busy baseball schedule Hadley would be perfect to help out. There is a lot of animosity and harsh feelings between the two in the beginning but they still have electric chemistry even when they claim to hate each other.

This was full of everything you can love in a book. It had sports scenes, a single dad, laught out loud banter, amazing character development, a great sense of family, and the list could literally go on. This was such an amazing read I will be raving about it to everyone.

If you’re in the mood for a feel good romance I highly recommend picking this up!

Hadley and Cam, that’s it!

KC Brooks realyl knocked it out of the park( pun intended) with her first novel in her new series. Now if you have been reading her since her first series St. Stephen's Lake( not necessary, but they are great as well.) You should have noticed that you have already met Cam and Hadley in Book 3 of that series, (Un)Spoken.

One of my favorite things an author can do it take characters from one series and give them a life of their own in their own. The prologue was a perfect way to provide the needed backstory. I loved getting to know how their relationship developed into what it did.

Cam, the man is a walking Green flag. He has finally gotten called up to the Majors after years of playing on farm teams. He is a single dad, who has one of the most amazing relationships with his ex/baby-momma. He is one of the best single dads I have read in a long while. There is nothing that he wouldn't do for his little girl. But this doesn't just apply to his daughter. But to Hadley as well, because for as much as they bicker and snark at each other; regardless of how many time they say they cannot stand each other, Cam always show up for her.

Hadley. I connected with her personality right away, there was just something about her. She is fierce, stubborn and protective of the family she has made, but she is also a little lost. Feeling that she needs to see and do everything before settling down in one spot. She is also feeling a little left out, since her best friend( Cam's Ex/Babymomma) started dating again. She is not afraid to call it like she sees it. But behind all that sunshine and chaos, is a women who unsure of what conditional love looks like, so when it is right in front of her, she make all the attempts to push it away, until she realizes that she can't.

The tension between these two, it starts on page one and then continues until we finally get the " F it" moment. And this is a slooow burn, so the tension, tensions for a while. Once it breaks and these two finally give in, WOW!! Helloooo spice! The nicknames are perfect for these two, Menace and Sarge( I am a sucker for a good nickname). The Banter, Chef's Kiss. I mean how could it not be with all the tension they have surrounding them

This book also had one of my favorite tropes: Found Family and the way that is weaved in this novel is proof that family is what you make it and KC shows us that perfectly, especially for Hadley.

I cannot wait for the rest of the series! hello series Easter eggs.

Thank you KC Brooks for ARC in return for an honest review.

This was a really cute start to a new series by K.C. Brooks. I really loved the Saint Stephen’s Lake series so I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from those stories. I thoroughly loved Hadley. She was fierce and she was sweet. She was caring and wild and loyal to a fault. She knew exactly what she wanted but she had a lot of past trauma that held her back. Cam was such a sweet golden retriever. His acts of service were top tier. And he really proved that when it comes to love and relationships, actions really do speak louder than words. He was also such an amazing father and I loved seeing his relationship with Emilia. The best friend’s ex trope was done extremely well in this. If you’ve read (Un)Spoken, you know that Cam and Tori have a friendship that most coparents can only dream of having. I loved that Tori was rooting for them from day one. Even before she knew what was happening between Cam and Hadley, she really pushed for them to be friends and get along. I just wish we would have gotten a little more build to their relationship. I felt like we didn’t get to see a lot of their “dislike” for each other. One of my favorite parts of “frenemies” to lovers is the banter and shit-talking and I would have LOVED more of that. Howeverrrr, their love story was really sweet so I absolutely enjoyed this.

Thank you to KC and Luna Literary Management for an ARC of Single Glance. I can’t wait to see what’s to come with this series.

Oh my goodness this one was so good!! Somehow I fully missed that this was a full spin-off but I couldn't be happier for it!! These two had such a great journey together, and I loved getting to watch it! Hadley was such a strong character and getting to see more of her background and her perseverance in this story was so amazing! I loved that we got such real vulnerabilities with her, but also got to see how her dreams took shape as she fully realized and accepted them! It made her feelings for Cam feel all the more real and raw to see how their journey helped to shape their dreams! And Cam was so incredible to Hadley through the whole book, but I really loved getting to see how he pushed for her dreams while pushing himself to achieve his own happiness!! I loved how he was so strong for his family and his loved ones without being too over the top in his push for them! These two were so perfect for each other, and getting to watch them realize that together was so perfect! And I loved so much all the Saint Stephens Lake cameos we got through the whole book!! Overall, this book was so good and I just loved it all so much! 4.5 stars; 3 chili peppers

4.5 stars rounded up to 5

Sometimes being a mood reader is curse. I wasn't in a terrible reading slump per se, but nothing was really sticking for me. Pick up a book, read 20 pages, put it back down, next book. I even did that once or twice with this book, but I kept coming back to it, so I knew there was something about it that was catching my attention. And this was the book that broke the slump.

It's a bit of slow burn and I do love a good slow burn. The relationship between Cam and Hadley definitely needed that slow burn - the payoff is well worth it. Cam is a total swoonworthy MMC as he's working to navigate Hadley's feelings... he is her best friend's ex after all! It took a bit for Hadley to get there, which fair considering the circumstances, but reading the shift in her feelings was satisfying. Moreover, Hadley worked to build a relationship with Emilia, Cam's daughter, which was just so sweet as the two bonded.

I'm sure perhaps there were things that technically could have been better or stronger pacing maybe (in hindsight), but you know what? It takes a lot to pull me out of slump, so I think rounding up to 5 stars is well deserved here.

Cam and Hadley have a cute hate to lovers romance story. They are connected to each other when she becomes his then girlfriend’s college roommate. Flash forward to present day, she moves to town to be with Tori to take a job and he moves back to be in the new major league team and be close to his daughter.

They have a huge bickering relationship where they fuel each other and bring out the “best” in each other. When Tori leaves town and leaves these two in charge and they are forced to spend time in close proximity to each other.

Turns out as they spend more time together they actually are starting to like each other. What started as a one time thing, turned into them not being to stop thinking of the other. Hadley is super worried about what Tori is going to say but she’s happy and rooting for them.

When things take a turn and Hadley needs to rush to her mother, Cam thinks he lost her for good. But turns out she just needed to be shown how much she is worth to someone.

Super cute love story, that ties into the Saint Stephen series. These characters are well written, and you can feel like you are in the book with them. I highly recommend this book and definitely this author to anyone that hasn’t ready any of her books.

I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of Single Glance by K.C. Brooks, and I absolutely loved it. Hadley and Cam are the definition of perfectly imperfect. Cam’s finally getting his shot at the majors, while Hadley’s still figuring out what she wants—never one to stay in one place too long.

Cam’s a single dad living with his ex, his daughter, and his longtime nemesis… Hadley. These two couldn’t be more opposite—he’s all structure and stability, and she’s chaos and spontaneity. But somehow, they just work.. eventually.

Their relationship is a slow burn of tension, growth, and vulnerability. Cam wants to go all in, but Hadley’s ....not so sure. She’s hesitant, questioning if she’s capable of more than what she’s always known. Watching them find their way was perfect. I loved every second of it.

I’m a sucker for a single dad story (and Cam? Swoon), and I have a soft spot for FMCs who struggle to see their own worth—especially when the MMC is ready to prove her wrong in the best way. K.C. Brooks nailed it again. Her writing is heartfelt, emotional, and full of just the right amount of swoon. I devoured this book and feel so lucky to have read it before release day.

Tropes: single dad, best friend’s ex, enemies to lovers, found family.

📕BOOK REVIEW📕

Happy Release day to the author 💕🥳

Cam and Hadley are enemies. They’ve known each other since college: he was dating her best friend and they had a child together. Years later, Cam is a pro baseball player and is no longer with Tori but they have remained good friends. Cam needs a place to stay, so Tori and her partner offer up their spare room, but Hadley also lives on the same grounds and the two have to come together when Tori and Adam go to Australia for Adam’s work, and they are left to parent Emilia.

I have loved everything KC Brooks has written and this book is absolutely my favourite. Oh my gosh, I cannot tell you how feral Cam and Hadley made me. Their dislike at the beginning was delicious. You could see the attraction from a mile off. But, when Cam realised Hadley was more, I nearly combusted. His mouth is perfection. The way he says: “baby” literally jingled my ovaries.
I loved Hadley and her fierceness. She was also incredibly kind and lovely towards Emilia and their relationship was cute as.
I also really enjoyed Tori’s character and how civil she was with Cam, and I’m glad she found Adam.

I could go and on as to why you should feast your eyes on this book, but just do it.

I really really loved this book. I am such a fan of this author and will read anything she writes. I will be honest was a little nervous about reading this one but boy was it written so well and just made me fall in love with the characters.

Hadley is Victoria's best friend (Vic is from another book in this series) and is such a Firecracker. She loves Vic and Victoria's daughter Emilia. She doesn’t seem to be the fondest of Cam, Emilia's dad and Victoria's ex.

Hadley is a free spirit and always moving around but ends up getting a substitute job at an elementary school and stays with Victoria in the guest house.

Cam is a baseball player and when he gets offered to play for a team closer to where his daughter will be, he is so excited.

Hadley and Cam have that enemies to lovers vibe going on and the way Hadley gets under his skin with tormenting him is the best. Will Hadley be able to give into her feelings? Will they both give in to the chemistry even with others around who may or may not approve?

I don’t want to give anything away but all I can say is you will laugh, cry, and fall in love with these characters.
