From the very beginning, from the first moment I may almost say, of my acquaintance with you, your manners, impressing me with the fullest belief of your arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain of the feelings of others, were such as to form that ground-work of disapprobation, on which succeeding events have built so immoveable a dislike; and I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry.
Mr Darcy is left despondent after Elizabeth Bennet's rejection of him in Kent. His cousins, Colonel Fitzwilliam and Viscount Saye hit upon an unconventional solution to help him; they believe they can fabricate a second chance for him to make a first impression on his beloved Elizabeth. Darcy returns to Meryton hoping the disguise he wears will make the man he is more clear but will it lead to a happily ever after.
The First Moment of Their Acquaintance is a short story previously published as part of the An Inducement into Matrimony anthology. The content is clean and low angst and the trope is an enemies to lovers, second chance romance.
Disguise of every sort is…a fine joke. I read this originally as part of the “An Inducement into Matrimony” collection. Lord Saye and Fitzwilliam convince Darcy to disguise himself as a bearded cousin and return to Hertfordshire to try and win Elizabeth after his failed first proposal.
A fun little short-story romp. I love Amy D’Orazio’s humour. Happy to add this individual story to my D’Orazio collection.
This very short story has Darcy with the aid of his cousins, Saye and the Colonel, coming up with the idea to go back to Netherfield in disguise and "court" Elizabeth as his own cousin, William Darcy. She is not easily fooled, but questions, "Why?" Great quick read.
Marked this read because I read it in an anthology. The notion that anyone would fail to recognise Darcy seemed a little far fetched but Saye is ever a good time.

In this short variation on Pride and Prejudice, beginning soon after Elizabeth Bennet refuses his offer of marriage in Hunsford, Darcy confesses to his cousins, Colonel Fitzwilliam and Lord Saye that he is in love, and that his lady love has refused him, and explains the poor impression he made on her from the first moment they met. His wacky cousins hit in the idea of returning to Meryton in disguise, as his poorer cousin, William. Lots of fun and a quick read.
loved it! I love Ms. D'Orazios Darcy AND Elizabeth and her Viscount Saye is absolutely amazing! heading off to track down all the books with Saye in them!
This was a cute story but I don’t care much for the short form. I read it anyway because I enjoy the author, but it’s a bit like having a little bite of chocolate when what you want is a king-size candy bar.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is a Pride and Prejudice variation. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a part of the Happily Ever After With Mr. Darcy series. This is a short story previously published as part of the An Inducement into Matrimony anthology. The content is clean and low angst and the trope is an enemies to lovers, second chance romance.

So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
This story is short but very sweet. D’Orazio manages to squeeze in some hilarious moments between Darcy and his cousins Colonel Fitzwilliam and the irreverent Viscount Saye. Our staid and stoic Darcy is convinced, by his cousins, to change Elizabeth’s opinion of him by wearing a ridiculous disguise and by being charming and friendly to the people of Metyton. Of course, the whole thing falls apart due to the antics of a reluctant, reticent Darcy and a besotted, bungling Bingley. It’s a bit of fun and a nice diversion from angst and drama. Enjoy the read.
Loved the story, only wished it was longer!! I love the stories this author writes, and I have read and enjoyed each one. Please keep writing these funny lovely Pride and Prejudice storylines. Also Saye adds so much fun when he is involved with Darcy! Just loved it even though I wish it had been longer!
Feeling devastated by Elizabeth's rejection at Hunsford, Darcy is convinced by his cousins to don a disguise, return to Meryton, and try to win her favor. His do-over begins at another Meryton assembly. It doesn't take long for Elizabeth to catch on to his tricks.
Second read. The first was in the anthology, 'An Inducement into Matrimony'.
3.5 stars. Just a bit of light fun. Darcy went to a dance in Meryton disguised as his 'cousin' to try to sway Elizabeth's opinion, but of course they're engaged by the end of the evening. Which was not very believable, since this took place a month after the Hunsford disaster, so no visiting Pemberley and no Lydia & Wickham drama, but if you don't take this too seriously it's nice!
Excellent novella! Well written and a bit of everything, love, humor and disguise. Appreciate that we had a little bit of Saye and the Colonel to bring the ODC back together!
I loved this sweet short story. Both Elizabeth and Darcy have done some thinking before the story begin. And that makes a difference! It is fun to read about how the little mischief comes along.
Very sweet and romantic book. I'm a bit disappointed that it didn't show much of Sayer and Colonel. Overall, it was a short and fun read. Truly happy with it.
