I was given an early copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is an intriguing book that looks at the Second World War from an unusual viewpoint. The story takes a young German and three of his friends, from his days in the Hitler Youth to the invasion of Poland. From there his Panzer Grenadier battalion is sent from one theatre of war to another. This instalment of the story takes us as far as the first battle of El Alamein in the Sahara Desert. The author shows us some of the human side of war while not shielding us from its horrors. A fascinating read and I look forward to the next book in the pair.
